    Great information, I suffered a Linsfranc fracture & this actually helped me get my big toe moving again.

    Thanks very much for this. Using the skeleton was very helpful in understanding the gliding motion. The other self mobilization video was less clear, because it's difficult to see exactly the motion you are trying to describe. This video corrected my interruption of the technique.

    I have gout and have had for over 40 years. Despite being painful much of the time, it's not big (hardly bigger than a mild bunion), but over time it's created banana hallux on the one side. Recently I've had the same pain on the other great toe joint and a slight upturning of the tip of the toe. I've got motion in both toes, but the one with the obvious gout doesn't bend downward like the other toe. Also, a brisk walk will cause pain in that joint -- the pushing off movement (and now with the other joint as well). This can be true if I'm just changing direction when in the house. Excruciating pain. Not sure what to do, but I've put a reverse Morton's extension on the bottom of my orthotics (which I have for neuromas in both feet). The orthotics haven't really helped and so I'm online learning all I can because after seeing 4 foot doctors about the MN and having the gout and limited motion remarked upon, I realised that none of them were providing me with any conservative measures other than orthotics and a few foot exercises. 2" heels? I can't do more than 1/2" heel without my feet screaming at me. I've now learned a few taping techniques and other strategies for off loading stress to the painful areas.
    Thanks for this.

    can these exercises help if there is a bone spur on top of the toe joint that is causing the decreased range of motion? toe seems fine until i squat and it gets into a weighted bend.. i injured it a few years ago and I believe the bone spur grew as a result. thank you Dr. Blake!

    How many weeks to do that? Daily or with a break? Will it go away an regenerate the space between joints and the cartilage?

      Saurav Mishra It is a start to analyzing the joint pressures. Try to look at my blog for more information www.drblakeshealingsole.com

    I find it difficult to get into a position where I can both comfortably brace my foot while using the other hand for the manipulations! I'm hoping I can make this work. I have bone spurs and walking can be really painful and is giving me horrendous back problems. I'm a keen walker and live in the mountains. I'm only 53 so want to avoid surgery as long as possible. Everything's out of line! I do have some mobility in my toe(s) and am not sure if I have rigidus or still within the limits of limitus. I don't have a measuring device.

      Wendy, I have so much more on my blog. Go to www.drblakeshealingsole.com You can look under the treatments for sesamoid injuries also. You should get some knowledge of spica taping, carbon plates, Hoka One One shoes, dancer's padding vs Morton's Extensions, cluffy wegdes, etc. Good luck. Rich

    Can this affect the knee? I have hallux limitus in my left big toe and if I walk without inserts the inside of my left knee starts to feel like it's straining...

      Yes, everything is connected, I will try to fi D another video of an Asian who showed how to treat that. Just massage the bands around your knee and the side muscles, also on the feet. When I find the video, it will be clearer.

      I wonder if she wears heels a lot-I think the toe should be at a neutral position at rest.

    If hallux limitus or rigidus is being caused by degradation of the cartilage, will mobilization help nourish the cartilage and prevent further degradation of the cartilage?

    • @drblakeshealingsole
      @drblakeshealingsole  7 років тому +1

      As long it is done without pain, it should help nourish the cartilage by allowing more motion thus more parts of the bone having cartilage pressure and nourishment. Rich

    Hello, very interesting, I have this also. Question: is it wise to keep training karate if you have hallux limitus. Maybe better semi contact?. Or better a martial arts with keeping shoes on? Thank you .

    Would this affect my Ballet classes?

    • @drblakeshealingsole
      @drblakeshealingsole  6 років тому +1

      Mariana, loss of big toe joint range of motion will have some affect on releve motion. At times, ballet dancers have to do alot to reduce the inflammation and keep the range of motion so they can dance!! Rich
