Great build, simple, efficient and functional. I lived out of a Ford F-150 for 18 months back in the early 90's. Not because I was 'broke & starving'. I took a sabbatical from life to explore and photograph the Pacific/Northwest. Didn't have some of todays modern luxuries like cell-phone/tablets/Wifi/internet... But, I had food, water, shelter and mobility. Those days were some of the best of my life. Kudos to your resourcefulness & ingenuity. I wish you the Best!
Very Nice! Perfect for road trip across the country. No need to spend $110 at holiday inn. When I can spend $20 for a truck stop shower and keep the rest of the money for museums, caves tours and everything else.
Bryan, I think you did a fantastic job with setting up the bed of your truck into a little camper or bug out type vehicle. I am truly impressed. With the carpet it gives it a cozy feel, so unlike true camping. That in itself is a stress buster. Glad to see a solar panel hookup. That gives you a lot of options. Also I notice some people complaining about the loss of usable space by having this type of set up. If you needed to, your truck is more than capable to haul a small trailer that could haul further supplies if you needed to (chainsaw, tree stand, generator if you wanted to for basic welding set up, etc) I am truly impressed Bryan. You should be proud of yourself..
That looks perfect. I'm getting a topper for my truck also and plan to have a place to sleep in there. I remember sleeping in the back of our station wagon in Alaska. Very peaceful.
Travel 2 Eternity I had a station wagon I loved ! It fit a full size bed with room to spare . But yes this is a nice simple camper . I really like it . 🤙🏾
If you add another curtain rod *under* the windows, your curtains will actually follow the angle of the cap instead of hanging straight down and flopping around. I used cheap bath towels with a roll sewed over the curtain rods on top and bottom. Bath towels are thick enough to block light, provide privacy, and if you cut them in half vertically, they will pleat and can be tied back to look decent when not in use. Also, bungee cords stretched between two points make way better curtain rods. ;)
That's similar to what I did a few years ago but I didn't have the modern technology.. I'm only five foot two so I was able to put my bed cross-ways just behind the cab.. That gave me a little more room to put other stuff like a small refrigerator.. My topper had a small ledge where it sat on the truck bed.. I cut 3/4 inch ply to size and slid it into place.. My table was off the bed like yours.. I like what you did with the solar cell.. Wish I'd had one.. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.. Keep up the good work..
Robin Conkel-hAnnan Haha thanks, but it's actually from a song called My Chick Bad by Ludacris. I just swapped out a few words. You might enjoy it though. Usually plays in me head whenever I encounter something like this. Even if your not into hop hop, the attitude of it is fun.
First truck I had when I got to the US was a Taco. Put a shell on it and a full frame bed. Wish I had seen this set up then! AWESOME! Great rig! Great work!
Yes, I definitely love it. I like how you left room on the right side so you may climb in/out more efficiently than if the bed ran across the whole width. I feel it offers so much freedom to utilize ones own vehicle and save money vs hotel stays, plus the ability to shower at places like truck stops and Planet Fitness. All great pointers and ideas and I do see myself setting up a similar truck camp in my Toyota Tacoma.

I've seen small AC window units used at campgrounds where an extension cord is used to run the AC. Make sleeping in hot climates much better. They mounted the window units in various places on the camper shell. The best one I think, the gentleman had the window unit mounted to a pair on milk crates with a fabric tube Velcroed to the AC unit, then to the window of the camper shell. So it didn't need any special window cuts, and it didn't deafen you inside the camper. I've even seen this used on tents where the fabric tub was sewn into the side of the tent. You could also set up an outlet for plugging an extension cord from the truck to a power outlet at a camp ground and inside the camper have an outlet to run a TV or hot plate for cooking. The things you have already done are very nice already, keep going.
Dude, this is way cool! I just have 3 questions : 1) Where did you put the refrigerated bar, 2) Do you hang your rifles in front of the forward window, and 3) When you button up, is the camper top zombie proof? Great job!

Good for you' In "74 I basically did the same thing. Out of college and headed west. Ended up in Boulder Colorado working at a ranch/recording studio. Met a lot of rock stars and ended up working for one and traveled the world. Spent 34 years in LA. My point is, now you have a place to rest at night, your free as a bird!! GO FOR IT

maybe you could find you a girlfriend like aspec03, the always bitching complaining current girlfriend, then you could get married, then she could decorate your house to her liking, then she could try and change you, then get divorced, she gets your house, and then you wish you had such a fine truck camper=freedom. BTW- i think your comment should read, "your a dummy for owning a house.
This is so sick! I have been looking for a truck or van to do this to! Thanks for sharing the video man! If you don't mind I can use some of your building ideas! Thanks
Yep, western Pennsylvania here also, in Lawrence County! Love the setup! I'll be fixing up my Colorado in similar fashion. Just need 34" width for the bed, storage space beneath, memory foam mattress, and a small storage and desk area. I'll be getting an ARE TW topper for the door and front height. The solar, battery & inverter are in the plans also. Not techie in the slightest, so I'll need a bit of help with those. Thanks for the ideas!
This has given me so many great ideas, I plan on being one of those traveling nurses and using this to get from place to place would save so much cash. I already got a truck, but I was thinking even more stealth like. So even if people looked into it all they would see is a piece of plywood, some cut up 2x4's , a rubber maid tote and a duffel bag.
That is pretty badass. You could get a little buddy heater going in there and use it for snowmobiling trips or ice fishing trips. Also for summertime trips.
I think that your truck camper is pretty cool. I think that is a great way to go out and see the country and to travel. best of luck to you and hope you have a good time with it.
I love what you done with your truck bub its amazing i build and sell custom tiny off road campers people spend thousands of dollars to do the same exact thing you are doing and have set up people cant handle cheap simplicity anymore i think you did out of this world great bub congratulations on your build
I didn't read through any of the comments, so apologize if I'm repeating anything. First, I think your truck rocks and my suggestion would have been to sand and stain the wood, just for more cozy vibe. Great job!
I like that setup. I did mine in a similar fashion. Wishing I would have put a taller topper on the truck. Headroom would make it awesome. It's Friday so I'm going camping.

+troy stevens Unless she likes it rough.
+drumtravelfun Take a router to one side for the classy ladies and leave the other side for the wild women.

Did anyone notice that he has a CB radio at the end? 🤠
Great Engineering. Simple and functional. Optimal use of space. Thanks for sharing. Looks great! Good job!
Wife's kicks you out of the bedroom; checkmate.
LMFAO
Shit, Im single now, this is all I need, Im a dumb for owning a house!! haha
Imagine the amount of money you could save doing this to afford a big house later on.
***** as long as I can pay cash!! Im never gonna pay a bank interest again. Biggest scam in America is home ownership
property tax. nobody can really "own" their land anymore. greedy ass government.
Talon Td I agree
maybe you could find you a girlfriend like aspec03, the always bitching complaining current girlfriend, then you could get married, then she could decorate your house to her liking, then she could try and change you, then get divorced, she gets your house, and then you wish you had such a fine truck camper=freedom.
BTW- i think your comment should read, "your a dummy for owning a house.
Looks Great. I recommend upgrade Bug netting on all windows
This is so sick! I have been looking for a truck or van to do this to! Thanks for sharing the video man! If you don't mind I can use some of your building ideas! Thanks
Hook him up with that chick on your pic and I'd say he would help
Nice job. Pittsburgh accent?
correct haha
I totally caught the Western PA accent as well! You sound like my brothers from Latrobe. Nice job on the truck Bryan.
Bryan Sober nice camper bro
Got it:-) Erie pa :-)
Yep, western Pennsylvania here also, in Lawrence County! Love the setup! I'll be fixing up my Colorado in similar fashion. Just need 34" width for the bed, storage space beneath, memory foam mattress, and a small storage and desk area. I'll be getting an ARE TW topper for the door and front height. The solar, battery & inverter are in the plans also. Not techie in the slightest, so I'll need a bit of help with those. Thanks for the ideas!
Once, I like it. Very neat no clutter and the way you did for the solar panels.
problem is where's a bathroom or shower?
yes. Bushes and rainfall.
I would say to get a gym membership that has a bathroom facility to include a shower. Or perhaps he has a job that had a shower facility in place.
I lost braincells reading this comment . Did you really expect for him to fit a shower and bathroom in this truck ....? How stupid lol .
Nearest rest stop, truck stop or state park.
Lake for shower and a bucket for bathroom
looks cool but need a place for a dog?
Floor next to the bed
Bryan, you're a pretty resourceful guy, I'm impressed.
that is bad ass
Where's the refrigerator? You need Beer..
sportsmansparadice42 that draws too much power
isn't that what a cooler is for
Drink it like a German lmao warm
This has given me so many great ideas, I plan on being one of those traveling nurses and using this to get from place to place would save so much cash. I already got a truck, but I was thinking even more stealth like. So even if people looked into it all they would see is a piece of plywood, some cut up 2x4's , a rubber maid tote and a duffel bag.
How does that ply wood hold up for screwin, ? Lol jk
That lamp takes the cake! Awesome. Thanks for sharing
OMG you're so creative!!! I wish I were this talented!!!!
I didn't read through any of the comments, so apologize if I'm repeating anything. First, I think your truck rocks and my suggestion would have been to sand and stain the wood, just for more cozy vibe. Great job!
I camp in my 1995 caravan with no modifications. But I really like your set up! Might have to make my next camper kind of like yours!!
i really like what you have done. it makes it so much more roomy looking when the bed doesn't take up all the room.
Great setup, very neat work. You’ll enjoy camping in that rig.
I like that setup. I did mine in a similar fashion. Wishing I would have put a taller topper on the truck. Headroom would make it awesome. It's Friday so I'm going camping.
