Chinaco has really outdone himself in the handsome department. WOW ! . Its been an honor to follow Pats journey to making his dream horse. Thank you both so very much. I sure have enjoyed learning your methods Pat and teaching my old horses new skills.
Watching your video's after coming home from working with my boy just makes me want to be better. Thank you. Your Valour Program video had me in tears. God bless you.
I emailed Sheriff Skinner right away. When you made the post about the valor program. I got a wonderful email back. Thank you for doing what you do. You're a gift to all of us and all of the people in the valor program.
Building and riding a good spade bit horse is one if the greatest pleasure in this life. This horse is gorgeous and I hope it will be an inspiration for people. Thanks for sharing such vidéos.
I have struggled with some of what you said about staying in the same place. Maybe not asking for more even when it was there. Which I have been making sure that I am more consistent and changing routine. And working on being lighter. I ride out don’t spend much time in an arena. And loose rein. But just recently started checking like Pat described with the bridle rein. I think I’ll be doing that a lot more from now on. Not just keeping my hand on the romal rein down on his mane but checking in and getting light contact and working more on the self carriage. It’s definitely not an easy thing to learn not just how to ride properly. But to learn how to do it properly in a spade bit. It’s one of the most challenging things I’ve ever done. But been one of the best things I’ve ever done. And I’m pretty sure the horse is happier not being kicked to go, pulled to whoa and dragged around by the mouth for movement. Was a good video that made me think about some things that I can work on a little more when I’m outside covering ground. Thanks again!
Very interesting comment about the shoe thicknesses. I've never heard that before, but it makes sense. I bet Pat is proud to show off Chinaco to all his Californio buddies!
Chinaco! WOW! What a Stud Muffin! Does Chinaco's name have a meaning? Also I will be reaching out to the Sheriff because that Valor program is not only amazing, but much-needed everywhere! ❤
thanks a lot, very interesting to see that you ajust the reins and keep doing the same with your hands. the only one vaquero riding his horse in Front of the Vertical. congratulation.
Pat, I noticed in this video that your get down rope is tied through the hanger on your under bridle. Could you comment on this, looks like it helps keep it away from his eye.
Can you please explain the significance of the position of the hand on the rein (above, at, below the palm concho). Pat mentioned he’s schooled Chinaco from all the way choked up to above the palm concho-but his goal is to be at the palm concho. What is the difference in communication with the hand in these different positions?

It's all about being delicate. He is pushing himself and the horse to respond to lighter and lighter touches. Attention and watch for explanation from the horse. Horses are sensitive, hard actions are received as yelling. Breath and be calm. You are watching one of the best horsemen North America has to offer.
It's an art form and a passion for riding as light as possible ❤️ the best horsemen and women in the world are the ones that you cannot tell that they are communicating with their horse and it just seems like they are one. Been obsessed with this idea since I was 5 years old when I learned about classical dressage and the lipizzan horses at the Spanish riding school in Vienna Austria. The best horsemanship is when horse and man are as one.
If a Nobel Prize was given for humility, Pat & Deb would be given the award. The only thing which surpasses their horsemanship is their kindness.
Great words of wisdom: "If you keep riding the same way every day, your horse will remain at the same level."

Love a horse that walks out like he's got somewhere to be. ❤
This is another reason to keep listening because pat explains it better than I have ever heard before

He talks in circles....the obsession over this bit makes no sense
He likes it 😂
Maybe you would share with me where you are losing track of what Pat is trying to convey?
