    Right that's it!
    It's time we hit The Catsby with this. Possibly for the Happy Hour...

      Do we have to eat in the restaurant upstairs first though?
      You know, this acoustic went to the Catsby!

    This is one of my most favourite pieces of music of all time.It’s great to hear someone do this justice,thank you.As an aside,UA-cam still desperately needs a good rendition of Ry’s haunting playing on Sister Morphine if you’re taking requests….

      You know, i thought the slide on Sister Morphine would be done to death by now - but I just checked and I see what you mean! Not well covered at all. Think I'll tab it out and put together something...hey, thanks for this. May even put JB's 'somewhere over the rainbow' on hold....

      @@JeremyJames_studio I know!! I regularly check to see if anyone has done it accurately but nothing yet;a million Paris,Texas covers though 🤷🏼 I can’t wait to see your version.There’s a good isolated guitar track video on UA-cam if that helps.

      @@mrsoul4231 Just pulled up the isolated tracks - much easier to hear now! Thanks for the tip. Great stuff. Interestingly, the guy who posted the tracks reckons Ry was playing a les paul junior. I was sure he was playing his first strat (which is now for sale: reverb.com/item/37476661-fender-stratocaster-owned-and-played-by-ry-cooder-solid-body-electric-guitar-c-1967-ser-144953-road-case) but listening again I'm not so sure. I'm enjoying this anyway, timely suggestion!

      @@JeremyJames_studio Really interesting you should mention the guitar.I was having that discussion on a Facebook group the other day.Basically if you listen to the Marianne Faithful version of Sister Morphine,Ry’s work on Memo From Turner,or his early solo stuff(including Dark End),I think you can clearly hear his strat which is quite thin sounding.On The Sticky Fingers version of Sister Morphine,the guitar has a much fuller sound.Having said that,as far as I know,Keith didn’t get his Les Paul Jr till ‘72 so it couldn’t have been that.

      @@JeremyJames_studio There seems to be one remaining picture from Ry’s session with the Stones(I think it’s the first one on the isolation video) and he looks like he’s playing a junior but it’s bound.There’s a lot of debate online as to what it could be but no one has managed to work it out for sure as of yet.If you can identify it then I would love to hear what you think.

    Again you amaze me with how well and clean you use the slide. And the sound you achieve with your slide and setup is very mellow, somewhat sad. Well done. Apparently you used the HX Stomp for that. It seems to me as a welcome addition to Line6's Custom Tones if you upload it there. Somehow you have the capacity to apply "more is less" just fine. No exaggerated echoes that I sometimes tend to haha.

    • @JeremyJames_studio
      @JeremyJames_studio  3 роки тому

      I didn't know about the 'custom tones' you mention, I'm going to investigate. From memory the patch was nothing much - a drive into the amp/cab into light compression.
      I did put very light slap delay and some room reverb in logic x...but they aren't too prominent as you mention. I would have spent more time dialing in the patch but to be honest I was just trying to play the damn song without messing up the recording or the video lol

      Sure thing - it’s here www.jeremys.studio/general-9
      You can just play it on the page, you should be able to download the MP3 as well depending on your browser. I put an closed hihat at the start, you get 2 beats then you’re away with the open hihat. Any questions let me know 👍

  • @jeffmuzyka8568

    Amazing. What gauge strings are you using on the strrat? And any adjustment of the string heights for the slide?

    • @JeremyJames_studio
      @JeremyJames_studio  2 роки тому

      Cheers Jeff, I put elixirs on it (12s). I find the coating helps with the string noise. I was using old flat wounds (12s) but switched out at the last minute - think i was having trouble grabbing those early harmonics with the older strings. I was playing 11s but that wound 3rd makes slide easier for me. I found some flats 11-49 with a wound third which I look forward to trying. 12s are all well and good but bending is next to impossible for me.
      The heavier gauge raised the action for me, so that was all the set up I needed.

    I don't know this song but I absolutely love your play through. You really know how to play slide. I just can't, whenever I try, I fail :) Also, what's that acoustic guitar? Looks and sounds gorgeous!

      Cheers Dennis. Hope all's well with you buddy. Yeah that acoustic has seen some time in the trenches. It's a Maton. Bought it in 2000. Should have taken more care recording it (just banged up a mic and didn't bother to check afterwards) but it sounded pretty decent in the end.

      @@JeremyJames_studio I slowed down heavily with blogging too. I did a couple of posts here and there, but just recently restarted with fresh energy. But I haven't uploaded more than 5 posts per month and usually just small photo posts. But yesterday I did upload a new guitar video to my UA-cam and blog. I feel you, blogging is so much easier than doing videos. Even with my guitar improvisions, I hate the video cutting and uploading process. Guitar playing is cool, but video work is a disruptive factor. I'd probably have a couple of hundred improvised guitar jams on my channel if I wouldn't hate video processing that much. Our infection numbers getting very low here, might be that a lot of our restrictions gonna get lifted soon. Life is already kinda back to normal, except for wearing masks in grocery stores maybe. Let's see.

      Just listened and commented on your youtube video - it was even in my feed! Regarding the process of editing video, I quite like it! Also enjoy mixing the tracks. It’s the messing about with cameras and angles and batteries and stands and light sources that’s a bit of a drag for me. I have a new camera (canon rp) which makes things easier as it can be controlled with a phone app but yeah, lots to think about when you’re trying to play something without too many mistakes. But once I’ve got the audio and video together, I enjoy working in final cut and logic. Need to put a few more videos out actually but I’m transcribing out songs and then practising for a ‘play through’ then putting out a ‘how to play’ soon after....that’s my plan for the next few, but man it’s takes a bit of effort! lol
