1:46 Hi Captain Joe, I just recently discovered your channel and have binge watched (and liked) most of the videos. I have limited experience with fiberglass and (inspired now) would like to try a jon boat or small bass boat. Consequently, I would really appreciate videos or information on how to build a plug of a slightly complex hull... like videos on how you built the 29's hull plug. Love your channel and explicit demonstrations. And thanks for sharing your knowledge!!
Thanks for the suggestion! I plan on building a small boat this winter, and I will be discussing design and engineering aspects of boat design, so stay tuned!
Ive watched a ridiculous amount of fiberglass youtube in preparation for a rather ambitious project im about to take on for a prototype. I ve gotten so many little tips and tricks from watching you go though this whole process. Thanks!
Thanks Captain Joe for providing such concise videos and showing each step of your projects. I appreciate all of the extra time you take to slow down and video the work to provide us with your skills.
I watched an experiment on how to keep mosquitoes away. With a good fan, like yours, their little wings cant go against that amount of air movement. If you have the fan always blowing in your direction, you shouldn't have a problem. Not sure about the yellow flies, but I'm sure it would work. Just like on breezy days, it's hard to find the mosquitoes. Not sure if the air movement would affect the work you ar doing.
Yes, the fans do help. But we often turn the fan down or off for better audio quality on the videos. Maybe one of these days we can have a climate controlled shop. That would be nice! As always thanks for watching and commenting!
Joe I’m so glad the channel is blowing up you well deserve it and glad to hear that the charter is wipe open. Joe you are stretching yourself a lot I understand but you got to rest don’t have no heart attack on us. Thanks for all the time you put into the videos for all of us and I really appreciate it .
Thanks for you concern, and for you comments! Yes, it is a very busy time of the year for us for sure! I will try to pace myself, don't want to burn out!
I’m a new subscriber. I do high end body work and paint that dabbles in composites heavily. Setting up my shop for vacuum infusions and mold making for carbon parts for cars. The composite market has grown crazy expensive at the vendors that’s I’ve used. But your discount code at fiberglass warehouse has made it affordable especially with the free shipping even to Michigan. Love the channel so far. Looking forward to seeing more.
Hi Joe Been binging on your videos Really Great information. My question for your 29' what do you think it cost to build Not counting everyone labor..... All materials?
Glad you are enjoying the videos! It is hard to say exactly, as it was built over quite a while. If I ever build another one I will be able to track the costs better. Thanks for watching
Thank you! Yes, I have built a number of smaller boats in the past. The dark green boat in our gelcoat restoration video is a 19 ft center console I built a few years back. It is also in our gelcoat stain removal video. I appreciate you watching and commenting!
I'm really enjoying your videos and I'm learning a lot about fiberglass finishing, I plan on building a hard top to replace the canvas on my T-Top but this is a lot more involved than I have time for. I plan on laminating some type of foam core board with fiberglass and your finishing instructions are invaluable. Do you have any recommendations for a good foam core board? Thanks.
Glad you are enjoying the videos! Divinicell makes a very good foam core that I have had succes with in the past. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!
its a pleasure to watch these videos just to learn the techniques of the work. It is also good to see that you can use the mold plugs as a work bench. Multipurpose!
How strong is that mold, how long will it last, how many layers did you use. Could you do a fiberglass plug using a thick plastic sheet for a mold. And your videos are very educational and fantastic
Niece's husband turned me on to UA-cam on vacation about 5 years ago. He was watching videos on food plots. Asked if there were any fishing videos. We were a Jekyll Is, Ga and found some guy fishing there. Watching boat repair/building and fishing channels since, so of course I'd like to see some charter videos. Gulf Shores (Ft Morgan really) vacation last year so was probably pretty close to you.
Very cool! We will try to post some fishing content for you all, and look me up and give me a call if you are interested in fishing with us next time you are down on vacation! Thanks for watching
Capt. Joe, another fantastic video. Funny that you made the comment about "tidbits" from previous videos. As I'm starting the next step in project boat, I had to correct a previous owner's "bad" repair using 5200. Using the DeBond Marine Formula you mentioned about a year ago worked great! Not cheap, $35 for a small spray can, but wow! A couple of sprays sprays probably saved me $100 of aggravation, and there is still plenty left in the can. I had never heard of DeBond. Thank you!
That's great, glad the videos are helpful! Yes, the Debond is one of those products that once you use it you wonder where has this stuff been all my life! It works great on other sealants as well. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Labor intensive is an understatement for this project! Now you have the gray plug and this orange mold are you still going to layer more fiberglass to create the final top? Congratulations on the subscriber you’re work is deserving!
Of the long list of things I have learned from your videos, taking my time is at the top. I realize I try to hurry through to often. Just how you mix your resin lets me know I never mix it well enough. Keep them coming and I look forward to some fishing action as well.
The Abralon disc would work great for this operation. I use them a lot for wet sanding some significant scratches in nicer boats. They remind me of the screen door type material you find on sheet rock sanders......but much finer. Downside is they are pricy.
Fish bump family Awesome news about the channel Thank y'all for sharing family legacy and we appreciate your time and knowledge moving forward looking forward to more projects and taking us along for the fantastic videos y'all take care in this heat!
Captain, thanks for all of your detailed work instructions. I have a suggestion for the biting flies….we have them too. A standard dryer sheet from your laundry room. Rub it on your exposed skin before you go out….it smells good and is non toxic. The flies hate it…and will not bite. I also hang one in the back of my hat brim. The flies will stay away from your head.
I will have to try that! I try to stay away from sprays and lotions in the shop because I don't want to risk contaminating any of our projects. Thanks for your suggestion and for watching!!
HFD M, still not decided whether or not this is another mold or a part? Clue, Mark finally called it a top. Yet, we add mold release compound.....then wax😂
The Grey part that we built first is called a plug, it is basically the mold for the actual mold. The orange part that we just built is the finish mold that we will build the actual fiberglass hardtop in. I know it can be confusing, so that's why I wanted to do this very detailed series to help people understand the process. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!
I do plan on making several, and molded parts are usually better quality than a one off parts. There are lots of ways things can be done. I am just showing you how I am doing this for my particular needs. Everyone is free to build or do however they see fit. Whatever floats your boat. Thanks for watching
Glad to see the channel moving up. Look forward to your videos every week. Congrats
I appreciate it! Thanks for your support of the channel!
Nice video, Captain Joe. Good to meet you today.
Thanks Cole! I appreciate you checking out the channel. Hope to fish with you all again soon!
Good ole Joe glad to see ya back love the video
Thanks 👍

You have your 'Chinese work boots' on.
Haha, never heard flip flops called that before! I like it! Thanks for watching and commenting!

Awesome job again Captian Joe!
A short how to fillet video would probably do well for you!
Thanks for the suggestion and for Watching!

Highly recommend a Thermacell Mosquito Repellent they make one that will protect large areas......They work great.
Thanks for the recommendation, I will be sure to check it out! I appreciate you watching and commenting!
Beautiful work Joe!!!! Do you build smaller boats than the 29? Thank you for sharing all your hard work! Look forward to next week!

I don't miss a video, Thanks so much! Love to see the 29 on the water but rather come down and witness it personally. Are you booked for the season?
Fantastic! I am booked quite a bit, but not fully. Just let me know. Thanks!
its a pleasure to watch these videos just to learn the techniques of the work.
It is also good to see that you can use the mold plugs as a work bench. Multipurpose!
Thank you very much! Haha, yep! Good work bench indeed.
Yeah, looking shiny. Ready to pop out a top.
Indeed
Yep, we are getting close!
Another excellent video for all of us novices! What happens to the plug now? Does it go into storage in the event that you need to make a new mold?
Glad you enjoyed it! Yes, I don't need two hardtop molds, so I will be putting it in storage. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Yes, they can be good. I had a bunch of the 3m disc's in stock and it just made sense to use them up. Thanks for watching
Congrats on surpassing 41K subs! Keep up the great content and I'm sure the channel will keep growing. I'm talking it up to all my boating buddies!
Thanks! Much appreciated!

Capt Joe. I would love to see the new top being used on a charter. Maybe some bog mahi👍
Thanks for the suggestion and for watching!
Everything you shown & Done has been inspirational is it possible to give a rough estimate on material cost
Thanks so much! I will try to do some cost breakdowns when we finish up the project. I appreciate you watching and commenting!
