Yes. A real blacksmith would've forged Damascus steel, pounded out the shape and bevels, heck even the feather shape at the end, all with a hammer. This was just knife making with power tools. Nothing wrong with that but it's far cry from other stuff I've seen guys do on UA-cam.
I am a bladesmith/ blacksmith and you sir are correct, this is what's know as stock removal. The only forging done was on the power hammer to get a general shape and the rest was just stock removal.
@@Midaspl you mean ancient damascus steel. the term is applied to modern steel with similar patterns. The terms even been applied to firearm barrels that were pattern welded. You just want to split hairs and that's fine, but you can't change colloquial terms for things once they've been so cemented into the culture. Everyone calls pattern steel these days "damascus"

No that's false cutting out a shape doesn't weaken or introduce stress points. Forging these details would require cutting the steel with a sharp chisel anyways, so in both cases you're cutting the steel. But it doesn't change anything, modern steels are homogenous. Forging is mostly for saving up material by getting a shape without removing steel, but he doesn't really forge in his videos, he makes a big spatula and then cuts a blade shape into it...
Grinding the profile doesn't weaken it. The particular design he created has potential stress risers where the slits are at the base of the blade. When you forge steel, you create deformations in the crystallin structure of the steel and the heating process causes grain growth. You can do a normalizing process that refines the grain.
Meanwhile the "real" blacksmith is using an electrical power hammer, a gas powered forge with accurate temperature readings, a lab grade heat treating oven, 6 different electrical belt sanders, an electrical drill press and modern quenching oil instead of water, its almost like technology was invented to make the job easier and the results better, im not saying his is better im just saying power tools are nice, and ive made a knife by hand from start to finish, it was a crap knife but ive done it and can say power tools are not a bad thing
@@wanderer_oti you say "you do it then" without realizing just how easy it is to do this with the tools he has, it's like making something in a high school workshop lol. I could absolutely do this myself, especially considering there's no actual forging here, just saws and power tools. he held a hammer for a grand total of 0 seconds during this entire process, and didnt even bother to sharpen the thing. He didn't even take proper safety precautions, not wearing any eye-protective gear while using grinders sending sparks everywhere, nor does he even wear gloves sometimes either. One nick from one of those grinders with no gloves and that's the end of your finger gone.

Yeah was gonna say, it’s not smithing, it’s machining
No that's false cutting out a shape doesn't weaken or introduce stress points. Forging these details would require cutting the steel with a sharp chisel anyways, so in both cases you're cutting the steel. But it doesn't change anything, modern steels are homogenous. Forging is mostly for saving up material by getting a shape without removing steel, but he doesn't really forge in his videos, he makes a big spatula and then cuts a blade shape into it...
@@jeanladoire4141no you not read?
Grinding the profile doesn't weaken it. The particular design he created has potential stress risers where the slits are at the base of the blade.
When you forge steel, you create deformations in the crystallin structure of the steel and the heating process causes grain growth. You can do a normalizing process that refines the grain.
it looks really good the craftsmanship is really good
So, with a restaurant knife, you are confused whether to eat or eat 😂
Фраза "перо под ребро" приобрела новый смысл))
that phrase does not exist. at least not in america
Of course since its russian phrase

My dad wondering where all his step-up drill bits went:
Beautiful craftsmanship🤘
You know it doesn’t look that sharp but it’s cool as hell. Plus you can probably sharpen that thing
That's not bladesmithing, that's construction work😂
wow he used a wire brush and power tools NEXT LEVEL SKILL BRO!
You do it then
Meanwhile the "real" blacksmith is using an electrical power hammer, a gas powered forge with accurate temperature readings, a lab grade heat treating oven, 6 different electrical belt sanders, an electrical drill press and modern quenching oil instead of water, its almost like technology was invented to make the job easier and the results better, im not saying his is better im just saying power tools are nice, and ive made a knife by hand from start to finish, it was a crap knife but ive done it and can say power tools are not a bad thing
Literally who cares
Feather knife with feather touch 🔪😈
Damn, that looks great.

bloodborne referenciaa????? YOU WERE AT MY SIDE ALL ALONG
If they had the tools back than the supreme blacksmiths would make super master pieces
I for one think this knife looks very cool
