- June 2022 Motorcycle camping trip from Truth or Consequences to Reserve, New Mexico following (sort of) NMBDR Section 3, including Chloride Canyon. No cell reception, a few wrecks and drops, rain, lightning and some beautiful scenery.
Completed section 3 in April, solo, BMW F700GS. I found this section to be relentless. The conditions were bone dry before the fire and rain. After making it up the 'hill' I foolishly expected the terrain to ease up. There never seems to be a break from various challenges. Sand, gravel (large gravel, more likes rocks), imbedded and loose rocks gave me the occasional pucker, but thankfully never dropped. 11.5 hours from ABQ to TorC to Reserve. Slow and steady for this 72 year old. Stayed at the Hidden Springs Inn in Reserve, decent rooms with attached restaurant. Very nice video, thanks.

Thanks! It was a ton of fun, if slightly outside my riding ability on that size bike. I'd recommend caution-- this chunk of the BDR was in rough shape from flooding when we did it, and it's likely worse now. I'd check with for more recent, detailed ride reports before going. Thanks again!

As of 5/2/2023 the road through Chloride Canyon is closed for repair work. It really took a beating in the monsoons last year.
Did this back in May. It's probably unrideable now with fires and rain.
I think you're right. It was in pretty rough shape from flooding when we were there, and there's been a lot of bad weather since!

I don't normally like background music on ADV videos but this big band sound was enjoyable. On the ride itself, that looked like a seriously rough section with flood damage. You're on an R1100GS, right? Good old school boxer.
