It’s hard for me to decide on a laptop when everyone judges every single laptop based on if you can play this and that. For the few of us non gamers ,can anyone say if this is a great laptop for regular use, word, video watching, multitasking and having many tabs at once open.?
If it can play games, it can do that better. I suggest a Chromebook though it that's what you're going to do.

You have magic, I have a 16 way sli gtx 1080 founders edition, 128gb ram, 4x 6ghz octocore cpus, and I can only run a 2x2 where each pixel can only be black or white. I have 4 10tb hdds and 4 1tb ssds too.

$400 for a laptop is pretty cheap . I bought a $400 acer laptop back in 2015 bc i was in a tight budget and boy, maybe because of the very cheap price, the laptop was so laggy even when I first used it. The graphic was trashy and all. One day i was in a bad mood and the laptop was lagging again. I got so angry. Blinded by emotion, I smashed the laptop so hard and caused it to turn off by itself. It won't switch on since then.
Okay i know my comment doesn't really answer your question but yeah, $400 is very cheap for a laptop. $2000+ laptops like the yoga 920 is very overpriced for me.
In my opinion you should at least spend $800 on a laptop but not past $1,000.

+No Name well I have a refurbished toshiba satellite e45-b4200. I got it 4 just under $400. It's a few years old but it's upgradable to Windows 10 and is surprisingly decent for light casual gaming. I can run Minecraft at max setting at about 40 fps, saints row 3 at about 30 on low and counterstrike at 60 on mid low settings. It has a 1080p LCD panel, a 4th gen i5 6gb of ram upgradable to 12. 750 GB of hard drive space. Decent speakers. An aluminum frame, and a ton more specs that I don't feel like listing off.
I've found way better laptops for less than $400.

2:06 I can run vanilla Minecraft just fine on mine, and with Optifine I can run at a respectable framerate for a laptop at this price point. What really impressed me is how well it handles Universe Sandbox 2 and even some Fallout 3. You have to mod it to trick the game into thinking you have an old Nvidia GPU or it will crash right after the beginning cutscene, but once you do that it will actually play at high settings and reach 40-50FPS.

I almost bought it but ended up buying Asus vivobook A442U for around $550. Pretty good since it comes with Intel core i5 and Nvidia Geforce 930mx. The screen sucks tho
I decided to budget really high on my first DSLR and, thus, low on a laptop to edit footage from the camera. So, I paid 500€ for a Sony a6000 and 200€ for an HP 14 r-208nv (2 Intel Celeron up to 2.6Ghz, 500GB HDD, 2GB RAM, Intel HD) along with an extra 4GB RAM upgrade. I've been running Photshop, Sony Vegas and even After Effects and though it does perform decently, it's almost a steal of quality for that money. It does perform outstandingly. for a laptop of its price. I'll get an 8GB RAM for it
Seems pretty decent, but the CPU and SSD (probably actually an eMMC) were compromises to get it in that $400 price range. Everything else about it seems like a wicked good deal for $400.

Downsides are that is 15'' 720 screen, and a 1TB hard drive, no USB type C, but it has usb 3.0
Build quality is solid, but not great. Its pretty thin, but not thin as ASUS.
Priced 435$ about a year ago.
Had no problems with it, runs crysis on high (exception of Crysis 3)
For daily task is buttery smooth.

For literally $20 dollars cheaper, you can get a MUCH better laptop than this. The laptop I am talking about is the one I am using to write this comment, the Lenovo ideapad 310.

just have to turn on the hidden graphics boost. rightclick the intel system icon on the right, and then go to settings, and configure, and then there is a "poor person" menu where you can access $1000 specs on a $400 machine. simple.
I have this laptop, and its pretty good. Yes, I know you can get better specs at this point, before I only used to care about specs. had a bulky acer.
until I went to college and realized what really matters (for me at least): size, weight, and battery life. And this laptop checks all of them while still having enough performance (better than 2 GB netbooks).
If you have any questions about this laptop let me know. And yes, it plays League at 60fps if you turn everything down.
hey there, im a high school student and im gonna be part-timing as a graphic designer in a couple months. im looking for a new laptop because my current one is very laggy, but im on a budget ($500 or less-but less is better). these are what im looking for in a laptop:
- runs photoshop cc 2016 smoothly
- runs sony vegas pro 13 smoothly (i need this for school purposes-cinematography class)
- runs the sims 4 smoothly (for my entertainment lmao)
- very portable and light weight. my current laptop lags like hell because i accidentally drop it a few times because i have to bring it to school everyday, and it weighs like a cow (i think its about 2.1kg or something)
im thinking of getting asus x205 because its very portable but i dont know if i can run ps, sv and ts4 smoothly with it. any suggestions?

Surprised to hear a Braswell CPU/4GB/EMMC doesn't trip up...The same combo is aggravatingly sluggish on my acer Chromebook 14, nearly the same CPU model. If Google managed to make ChromeOS fatter than Windows, lol. But I'm somewhat doubting Braswell+eMMC can be as smooth as described over time/more tabs.

I have a $300 HP Elitebook 8460P for my daily gaming. It is amazing. I do have a Kingston 120GB V300 SSD in, and 8GB of Ram. For example, the normal FPS I get while playing a casual game, like Minecraft... is around 400-650 FPS.

I bought an Acer laptop last winter (Windows not included) for around the same price. It has a 15.6" 768p display, a 720p webcam, a 5th gen Intel i3 @2.0GHz, a 2GB 920M nVidia GPU, 4GB RAM and a 500GB HDD. Pretty much better for the price if you ask me.
I had a vivobook before I got my first MacBook in 2013. It was a great machine for the limited time I had it.
My $400 laptop, slightly used from Craigslist is a Toshiba Satellite nS55-A5295, bought two years ago, i7-3630QM quad core CPU, and 12 GB Ram, and no GPU ofc. But way better value than a brand new $400 laptop in 2016

I bought an ASUS laptop a few years ago and it had no HD display, no type-c port (obviously since it wasn't out yet!) and no SSD. Yeah, its consolidated read isn't great, but I bet that random access time is much better than a hard disk.
a tip for benching any CS title, play on a server, not offline as the CPU is used more in an office server, hampering performance

I bought a Dell 3152 with the same Pentium N3700 and 128 gig SSD, but with double the RAM and a convertible 11-inch touchscreen.
The thing cost $270 open-box, and then $25 for an aftermarket charger.
Then again, it *is* a Dell, no wonder it was so cheap...

The thing about cheap laptops is they suck.
Back in 2008 I bought a $249 laptop for emergency use when I moved out after graduation. It was cheap and fairly slow on anything other then web browsing.
Arguably 9 years later most cheap laptops in that price range are still slow and still cheap while using virtually the same exact CPU but only with a gig extra ram.
I got a Asus G551JW for 650 with a core i7 4th gen processor 8gb of ddr3 ram and a Nvidia Geforce 960m graphics card and a 1920x1080 screen, for 250 more its a HUGE upgrade! Especially if you are a gamer (which frankly I am)
