Interesting video. I'm American and I started watching K-dramas about 15 years ago because after I tried one, I thought they were very clean compared to my American soap operas. I didn't have to be embarrassed if one of my young children walked into the room and saw the TV on. I was grossed out that so many American shows had become so scandalous. I also appreciated the format, like a novella, there are only 16 to 20 episodes and the story ends. My American dramas go on and on for years so that in order to make it interesting, they have to break up the couple and give them new romances. I loved Korean dramas for avoiding that! Years later, I watched a talk by a North Korean who had been inspired to escape after secretly watching some Korean dramas and seeing the lavish lifestyles, the food, the clothes, and I felt that maybe this is the good side of showing off beauty and wealth in dramas, to make a point of what a free society can achieve. Thank you for letting me share my thoughts and for an interesting video.

I can totally relate to that. If I see an US film or series sometimes it’s so disgusting sometimes. I like those short series too. Longer than a film, but not lasting for months or years. Luckily so many K-Dramas exist 😅
This is why I stopped watching "western" productions. They are disgusting at times and they normalize many toxic behaviours. It was like a breath of fresh air to watch clean, as you said, drama. To add to that, unfortunately, ever since Netflix got envolved in Korean productions I can see a worsening trend. Dramas have become more shallow and boring, everything is very repetitive and there's much less real emotions.
@@CMri lately I changed mainly to Rakuten Viki. There are lots of great dramas that aren’t available on Netflix. I changed there because I wanted to watch „my roommate is a gumiho“, now I’ve seen lots of great dramas there 🤗
@@CMri I will add that now I see more cursing. When I first began watching, it was rare. I honestly don’t know if that was happening and just getting cleaned up by the translators or not. My guess is that it really was cleaner 15 years ago. I think I know the word for trash/garbage, and sometimes the drama translation will say they said something worse, but I know they only said trash. Or the worst one I saw was the character saying “Aish” and the translation was a really bad curse word. And I took it as producers wanting to Americanize the kdrama by adding bad words….since that’s been the trend here. There is enough ugly reality in the world so I prefer to watch a drama that lets me escape into beauty and goodness! ❤️
Very interesting and thank you for sharing. My youngest introduced me to KDramas with Descendants of the Sun in 2017. I was so impressed that I continued to watch and have not bothered with US TV since - and I am an American. As others here have mentioned, KDramas give you a complete story in a season, unlike American TV that drags on and on long past the time it should’ve ended, are clean enough to show your entire family vs scrambling for the remote to turn off smut, filthy language, and extreme gore as is on US television. And KDramas have restored to us the beauty and development of romance versus the filth on TV in the US of two people meeting and immediately hopping into bed with each other. KDramas are intricately plotted, beautifully written, acted, directed and executed - and include original soundtracks of fabulous songs, and sometimes exquisite instrumentals, as well, the later point being something television in the US has never done. One American with whom I wholeheartedly agree wrote the following reasons why KDramas continued to gain global audiences: Here is why KDramas are taking over the worldwide market, by Athena Gideon: 1. Acting - As someone pointed out, the actors are very accomplished. Even the idol actors are held to a very high level of performance. I find that the base level of acting skill demanded in Korean Dramas far outstrips the majority of American shows. 2. Values - America used to do this, but doesn’t anymore. Korean shows are a vehicle for transmitting Korean values. If you watch a number of shows you will see a pattern. While some might not enjoy this, I find it refreshing. The bar has been set so low in American media that I prefer watching shows that have a moral compass. 3. Soundtrack - I don’t know how they do it, but Korean Dramas have some breathtaking soundtracks. There are certain songs, that when I hear them, I get verklempt. That is some seriously mad skills right there. 4. Story Arc - Korean Dramas tell a story, more like a book than a series. You get a beginning, middle and usually a satisfying ending. If everything is going wrong, you know you only have X number of episodes before you are either weeping in your coffee for a week or the good guys finally win and the bad guys get what is coming to them. 5. Cinematography - The production values and the cinematography is first rate. Some of these series rival movies in this way. If you think I am kidding watch Goblin, Descendants of the Sun or Legend of the Blue Sea. 6. Love, Love, Love - Korean Dramas know how to present love. Not lust, not sex, but love. You may have to go through six or eight episodes for a single kiss or a back hug, but the wait is worth it.
Just WOW You said everything we all want to say in such an elaborate manner. I was left to watch Hallmark movies just so that I don't see two people having literally sex on tv..but this year I completely graduated to watching nothing other than Korean,Chinese, Japanese and Taiwanese dramas and movies..Even the movies leave you either crying like a baby or laughing your lungs out
Like sugar too much sweet can make things unbearable. But kindness are like tree roots. A permanent source of good strength and support that nourish marriage. Kindness is better than sweetness.

I’ve been watching dramas for years now (my first drama was Secret Garden with Hyun Bin). The relationships have definitely evolved since then but are still quite different from the west. I really enjoy the difference though. It’s like peeking into another world. That watermelon dessert looks very tasty and refreshing! I enjoyed this video 👍🏾.
I love Korean dramas. The filt in American TV left me with no choice but to only watch Korean and Japanesse dramas. Thank you for keeping your stories clean, with morals, and funny.
You are correct in you're assessment. I would like to add the false sense of beauty, glamour and wealth that a lot of the k-dramas focus on. Yes there are those things but a very small percentage. It sends a message of materialism to the youth and adults instead of inner happiness.

From the UK now hooked on KDramas. Love the manners South Korean and respect. Don't become Westernised as respect will be gone and entitlement will come in. I'm from the West and my country has lost its morals.
I look at K-dramas like I look at the TV series "Friends". "Friends" is not the real life of most American singles, but you get a taste of American culture through their story telling. "Friends" is upper middle class and K-dramas portray that portion of life too, but you do get a taste of Korean culture while watching them. I love the 'historical' ones, and just like ours, they aren't always true to history, but you get the flavor of the period and how modern culture has evolved from that time period. I think that more westerners are watching K-dramas because it portrays life much different from ours, and a gentler side. The more gentle western dramas have now devolved into anyone's good action as an act of God, instead of it's just being the right thing to do.
Thanks for sharing & greetings from Germany! I feel Germany is as cold as it gets, both in weather and sometimes in mentality. Respect for elders is a catastrophe here, and getting married is a decision anyone makes without needing their parents' consent. I'm grateful for my American side, which adds a bit of warmth, even if it isn't always perfect. I discovered K-Dramas by chance about a year ago, and they've helped bring some balance into my life. I also agree with an earlier comment-Jin IS at least as beautiful as the actresses in K-Dramas, if not more so. Love the channel-keep us updated!
It's pretty fun to watch Kdramas actually. What I've heard from foreigners about the charm of it is the sutble and detailed expression of various emotions.
@@abitdifferentkoreans It's true. I'm 42 and I just started watching a few dramas. I felt attracted to them. The reason, I think, is that we are witnessing a complete decline in our western society. Seeing strong values in K-dramas that are still there while we see them disappearing and while missing them makes me feel better. It helps one believe that love, commitment, respect, gentle manners, etc. didn't die or should not anyway. It gives a positive model to achieve (if we focus on the postive sides).
@@abitdifferentkoreans I enjoy the Korean dramas and movies because they are totally new and original stories for me with new actors. It's not the same, tired old stuff with the same faces. I also enjoy learning about Korean culture and customs as well as the history of Korea. The historical dramas and movies based on real events are so intriguing. I think it's because in my history classes in school they never covered any Asian history. It was all North America and Europe. My love of Korean dramas has even inspired me to try to learn the Korean language.
You'll be amazed how much free food and positive attention you'll receive if you speak Korean as a foreigner in Korea~ I'll also cover such culturual aspects in another video!

Some cultures see marriage as a union of two families. If the two do not mix well, it can lead to estrangement. I know of many cases of family estrangement, especially between a son and his family mainly due to the wife’s feelings about the husband’s family and I’m in the U.S. Even in my workplace, it’s very common to hear women complain about their in-laws.
@@emy-essencetv Nearly 50% of marriages end in divorce in the U.S. It's so common place now that it's no longer considered taboo and blended families are praised, saying "Children growing up in a blended family learn to solve conflicts and relate with different people. As a result, they develop good problem-solving skills. Extended families also provide children with more role models." which contradicts what I hear from people with step children who always advise me not to get involved with people with children.
@@d.c.3534 I don't know what blended family is, if you can educate me more on that. I'm Nigerian.🇳🇬 And we are family oriented, but I still believe children learn from all members of the family. We still have people who end up divorcing in my country, but it's not common and, it's not easy for the children to adapt to that change of separated parents. And the worst is that, most of this parents wants the children to pick sides. Well, couples who ends up divorcing have their reasons. I don't judge them. But for me, personally, I don't want to get married only to end up divorced. I pray we all enjoy our spouse, home and marriage.

In USA culture. 1. If you’re dating and constantly texting each other during work hours you probably either get a warning that’s not supposed to be happening during work hours or you’ll be fired. 2. A little tip to clue you in if a guy or woman is single or not. If a woman or man uses the word WE in conversation it most likely means that they are married or in a relationship. If they use (I) it could indicate that they are single. ??? What kind of dates do Korean couples like to go on??? Do they go on group dates at first and then later on just as a couple? Or do they do a combination of both group dates and just on their own?

K-drama and k-pop is also very popular here in the west, like in the U.S. You guys should make more videos on making Korean food and snacks, maybe invent a Korean-Thai fusion dish and explain it to the viewers. Just some suggestions and thoughts.
I am an Indian woman and I started watching Kdrama in my teens. As a typical teenage girl, I got into the stories primarily because of the dreamy Men, angsty storylines and cultural similarities. I think these things were really what pulled me in initially but, now as I am in my 30s, I have started seeing things without the rose tinted glasses of a teenager and can really question and ponder how Male leads who are pushy, and passive aggressive are being promoted as loving and caring. Having said that, I still enjoy kdramas every once in a while but my passion for them has cooled off as I grew older. Also, I really enjoyed the video and honestly, it was just in my recommendations and I clicked purely out of curiosity now though am glad that I did. P.S. my first drama was Stairway to heaven as well and I was left traumatised by it. I remember back in early 2000s the storylines really liked killing characters with blood cancer. I have shed buckets of tears 😂😂

I have only started watching dramas for about a year. What attracted me to it was that they were much cleaner than the west. But I have noticed that the women get slapped a lot and both men and women scream a lot too. That’s a bit cringey. The other thing that should change is how involved the fans get in their idols lives to the point that they can control their careers. Awful.

Exactly, that's a difference between two or more cultures. In North America (US ) dating means or involves having sex. And don't show respect for each other, values and moral are gone. I prefer 100 times the Korean culture and my own country. The US tv shows are superficial and very far from real life. Sadly to say it but it's true.
Cool that you answered those questions about K-dramas. I have noticed in many of the K-dramas that there is a large amount of drinking going on when people are upset or stressed - particularly the drinking of soju. Does that actually happen a lot in Korean society? Do the K-dramas exaggerate the drinking too much? Sometimes I worry about how peoples' livers can handle all that alcohol so frequently.

I enjoy , laugh and cry with every k- drama. I know that not everything is like they show in.south korean, but definitely their culture and life style are much better in many aspects. I don't believe in wearing all high expensive brands for clothes or bags, but i respect if others want to spend their money on that. Personally a brand doesn't make a person. Please , keep sharing more about your korean culture with us.. One question for you, why are you not living in South Korea? You mentioned several times that you live in.Bangkok.

I enjoy the Korean series so much from South Africa. I never watch any other movies anymore. I love the way they eventually only in episodes 18 ro 19 only kiss for the first time. I'm ready to let them show each other how they care from much earlier. Love how they respect each other. So enjoyable to see they don't just jump into bed first night. Sean you must cherish your wife she is cute and worth it. Tell het how much you love her, get romantic woman thrive to hear how they are cherished. Tell her often she is beautiful and you appreciate her. It will change so many things.
I am an 89 year old Australian and started watching Korean shows during Covid lockdown.I am so hooked on Korean shows I don’t watch anything else,excellent acting and of course we know it is not true to life but I have learnt so much about this beautiful country and the customs as before I only thought about the Korean War which was in my generation,take a bow Korea🇦🇺👍👏

I think I’ve been watching them exclusively for at least two years now. I love the culture for its family connection., their love of food and their respect for each other. It is also so refreshing not to have full on sex in the first episode like American productions. Is Korean society really the slow burn that is depicted in the dramas? Are Korean couples really hands off and wait months to have their first kiss? That part seems unrealistic to me but I thought I’d ask. To answer your questions, Korean society is in fact very fast but when it comes to moral and conservative values like physical touch are definitely much slower than the western world (but not months to have the first kiss)
Hello, I loved your video, very interesting about the house deposit. I always wondered about that when characters had problems to get it back or had to use it for sth else.. the drama!! 😂 I thought its like here that you give 2 to 3 rents ahead for safety reason for the landlord. My question is short: in K-dramas its often a problem to pay for medical bills in hospitals but from Korean youtubers you hear that the health system is cheap and easy. Whats real? Welcome to our channel~ The reality is that the medical cost in Korea is pretty affordable because of 3 reasons I think: 1. The cost itself is not super expensive like other developed countries like Europe or U.S. 2. The national public insurance is mandatory for all citizens that cover most of illness. 3. The private insurance is also well structured that one can benefit when hospitalized. Hope this helps.

Sean has the same definition of quality time with the Korean man I met. After texting good morning, asking "잘잤어" and texting for a while before going to work I woudn't hear from him again. We are in touch again after he's off work. Then kakao before going to bed. Sometimes random text in between work but that depends if there is a chance. Texting all day and doesn't focus on work is unhealthy for me. We need to breathe too. Communication doesn't mean to text every hour. What matters most is the consistency. Now I know that Korean men aren't the same.
Hi there great video re dramas would love it if you could do more on this topic. (Fiction vs reality in drama) I started watching Kdrama during covid and have become quite interested in learning about the culture. I was glad to hear that with regards to love triangles that mostly unrealistic for the way they portray the 3rd person with the crush to be so clingy and not handle rejection in the dramas is quite scary/insane😮 Wanted to ask I am aware of the hierachy in Korea and obviously it is the culture but where does one draw the line as such.? For yes one should respect there elders but a lot of the dramas portray the older grandpa/grandmother/chaebol/ colleague as grumpy people and almost comes across as more of a power trip even as far as slapping a younger person. Lastly not sure if maybe lost in translation in dramas but are Korean people very private even with good friends/family ,? They seem to only tell friends family things they need to know. keep all troubles to them selves.

Haha, I wish I could show you my mom's dishes. She usually brings at least 5 different side dishes to the table. For normal households, I would say 3~4 side dishes are common for a typical meal. You can check out my other videos about Seoul restaurants, and you'll be amazed how many side dishes are provided. As for alcohol drinking, not everyone, but a lot of people actually drink Soju quite often and quite a lot (1 bottle on average for typical Korean man).
I read somewhere that there are “hourly” hotels that cater to young people who are still living at home but have intimate relations. That seems natural to me and makes sense. What is not possible is people getting to their 30s and still completely inexperienced.
thanks for your comment. yes, there are places called 'motel' for such purposes. However, we value intimate relations done only as a married couple, in line with our Christian belief!

In the US, with our healthcare system and the co-pays, most people don't visit hospitals for cuts or colds, yet I see it all the time in K-dramas.

I would like to know about bullying it seems like from the k - dramas I've seen bullying is very very intense.. while there is bullying( obviously), in America ..my experience has been that it isn't quite as intense as depicted...for instance, The Glory or other shows where even the teachers are either directly or indirectly involved.
But we’ve been hearing about stories of young children in the US committing suicide due to bullying for years now. My own personal experience and my peers are pretty bad, mostly driven by racism where we were being verbally and physically assaulted from elementary to high school. Rather take the racial slurs over a random punch to the head/face any day. Inner city violence are both in the streets and on school grounds. So it’s bad in the U.S.

Interesting with the Sprite in the mellon. 🤔🙂 Where I'm from, we do the fruit salad mixed with whipped cream. .... Another nice tip I got from someone was to chop up the mellon in triangles and put them in the freezer, then they will be like frozen popsicles for hot summer days

Mais je ne suis pas dupe et je suis vraiment étonnée de voir tous les commentaires de gens qui ne font pas la différence entre la fiction et la réalité. Ils ne connaissent pas le travail d'acteur on dirait. Mais bon !Je suis passionnée de livres,de musique de théâtre et de cinéma . Donc j'ai quand même assez vite compris le fonctionnement des dramas. La plupart du temps c'est le même schéma quelque soit le thème. Les scénaristes utilisent souvent le même schéma.Ne jamais se toucher ou si peu,les mères qui battent leurs filles et leurs maris, les ultras riches et les autres. La surconsommation. Les agences d'industrie du divertissement qui batissent des fortunes sur les rêves de célébrité de jeunes adolescents mais qui laissent leurs artistes aller jusqu'au suicide et assujetissent des bandes d'enfants enlevés à leurs parents pour intégrer des pseudos universités où ils sont façonnés, formatés et où tout ça se rapproche de la maltraitance. Mais ça c'est juste mon avis pas un jugement . Je m'en garderai bien. L' alcoolisme Parce que hein qu'est ce qu'ils se mettent certains-nes comme on dit chez nous.😅Ah si! La pluie,les parapluies et les promenades main dans la main. Ce n'est jamais violent (sauf les mères qui battent leurs enfants même adultes . Moi excusez moi mais ça , ça ne passe pas ). Interesting video. I'm American and I started watching K-dramas about 15 years ago because after I tried one, I thought they were very clean compared to my American soap operas. I didn't have to be embarrassed if one of my young children walked into the room and saw the TV on. I was grossed out that so many American shows had become so scandalous. I also appreciated the format, like a novella, there are only 16 to 20 episodes and the story ends. My American dramas go on and on for years so that in order to make it interesting, they have to break up the couple and give them new romances. I loved Korean dramas for avoiding that! Years later, I watched a talk by a North Korean who had been inspired to escape after secretly watching some Korean dramas and seeing the lavish lifestyles, the food, the clothes, and I felt that maybe this is the good side of showing off beauty and wealth in dramas, to make a point of what a free society can achieve. Thank you for letting me share my thoughts and for an interesting video.

I can totally relate to that. If I see an US film or series sometimes it’s so disgusting sometimes. I like those short series too. Longer than a film, but not lasting for months or years. Luckily so many K-Dramas exist 😅
This is why I stopped watching "western" productions. They are disgusting at times and they normalize many toxic behaviours. It was like a breath of fresh air to watch clean, as you said, drama. To add to that, unfortunately, ever since Netflix got envolved in Korean productions I can see a worsening trend. Dramas have become more shallow and boring, everything is very repetitive and there's much less real emotions.
@@CMri lately I changed mainly to Rakuten Viki. There are lots of great dramas that aren’t available on Netflix. I changed there because I wanted to watch „my roommate is a gumiho“, now I’ve seen lots of great dramas there 🤗
@@CMri I will add that now I see more cursing. When I first began watching, it was rare. I honestly don’t know if that was happening and just getting cleaned up by the translators or not. My guess is that it really was cleaner 15 years ago. I think I know the word for trash/garbage, and sometimes the drama translation will say they said something worse, but I know they only said trash. Or the worst one I saw was the character saying “Aish” and the translation was a really bad curse word. And I took it as producers wanting to Americanize the kdrama by adding bad words….since that’s been the trend here.
There is enough ugly reality in the world so I prefer to watch a drama that lets me escape into beauty and goodness! ❤️

My youngest introduced me to KDramas with Descendants of the Sun in 2017.
I was so impressed that I continued to watch and have not bothered with US TV since - and I am an American.
As others here have mentioned, KDramas give you a complete story in a season, unlike American TV that drags on and on long past the time it should’ve ended, are clean enough to show your entire family vs scrambling for the remote to turn off smut, filthy language, and extreme gore as is on US television.
And KDramas have restored to us the beauty and development of romance versus the filth on TV in the US of two people meeting and immediately hopping into bed with each other.
KDramas are intricately plotted, beautifully written, acted, directed and executed - and include original soundtracks of fabulous songs, and sometimes exquisite instrumentals, as well, the later point being something television in the US has never done.
One American with whom I wholeheartedly agree wrote the following reasons why KDramas continued to gain global audiences:
Here is why KDramas are taking over the worldwide market, by Athena Gideon:
1. Acting - As someone pointed out, the actors are very accomplished. Even the idol actors are held to a very high level of performance. I find that the base level of acting skill demanded in Korean Dramas far outstrips the majority of American shows.
2. Values - America used to do this, but doesn’t anymore. Korean shows are a vehicle for transmitting Korean values. If you watch a number of shows you will see a pattern. While some might not enjoy this, I find it refreshing. The bar has been set so low in American media that I prefer watching shows that have a moral compass.
3. Soundtrack - I don’t know how they do it, but Korean Dramas have some breathtaking soundtracks. There are certain songs, that when I hear them, I get verklempt. That is some seriously mad skills right there.
4. Story Arc - Korean Dramas tell a story, more like a book than a series. You get a beginning, middle and usually a satisfying ending. If everything is going wrong, you know you only have X number of episodes before you are either weeping in your coffee for a week or the good guys finally win and the bad guys get what is coming to them.
5. Cinematography - The production values and the cinematography is first rate. Some of these series rival movies in this way. If you think I am kidding watch Goblin, Descendants of the Sun or Legend of the Blue Sea.
6. Love, Love, Love - Korean Dramas know how to present love. Not lust, not sex, but love. You may have to go through six or eight episodes for a single kiss or a back hug, but the wait is worth it.

I’ve been watching dramas for years now (my first drama was Secret Garden with Hyun Bin). The relationships have definitely evolved since then but are still quite different from the west. I look at K-dramas like I look at the TV series "Friends". "Friends" is not the real life of most American singles, but you get a taste of American culture through their story telling. "Friends" is upper middle class and K-dramas portray that portion of life too, but you do get a taste of Korean culture while watching them. I love the 'historical' ones, and just like ours, they aren't always true to history, but you get the flavor of the period and how modern culture has evolved from that time period. I think that more westerners are watching K-dramas because it portrays life much different from ours, and a gentler side. The more gentle western dramas have now devolved into anyone's good action as an act of God, instead of it's just being the right thing to do.

Respect for elders is a catastrophe here, and getting married is a decision anyone makes without needing their parents' consent. I'm grateful for my American side, which adds a bit of warmth, even if it isn't always perfect. I discovered K-Dramas by chance about a year ago, and they've helped bring some balance into my life. I'm from the UK and have started to watch a lot of Korean dramas via Netflix. Not sure why but really into them for a while now
It's pretty fun to watch Kdramas actually. What I've heard from foreigners about the charm of it is the sutble and detailed expression of various emotions.
@@abitdifferentkoreans It's true. I'm 42 and I just started watching a few dramas. I felt attracted to them. The reason, I think, is that we are witnessing a complete decline in our western society. Seeing strong values in K-dramas that are still there while we see them disappearing and while missing them makes me feel better. It helps one believe that love, commitment, respect, gentle manners, etc. didn't die or should not anyway. It gives a positive model to achieve (if we focus on the postive sides).
@@abitdifferentkoreans I enjoy the Korean dramas and movies because they are totally new and original stories for me with new actors. It's not the same, tired old stuff with the same faces. I also enjoy learning about Korean culture and customs as well as the history of Korea. The historical dramas and movies based on real events are so intriguing. I think it's because in my history classes in school they never covered any Asian history. It was all North America and Europe. My love of Korean dramas has even inspired me to try to learn the Korean language.

I know of many cases of family estrangement, especially between a son and his family mainly due to the wife’s feelings about the husband’s family and I’m in the U.S. Even in my workplace, it’s very common to hear women complain about their in-laws.
You need your parent blessing. For marriage in Africa. 🇳🇬. No one want divorce so, we choose carefully.

We still have people who end up divorcing in my country, but it's not common and, it's not easy for the children to adapt to that change of separated parents. And the worst is that, most of this parents wants the children to pick sides.
Well, couples who ends up divorcing have their reasons. I don't judge them.
But for me, personally, I don't want to get married only to end up divorced. I pray we all enjoy our spouse, home and marriage.
IMO kind is better than sweet because sweet isn’t always authentic. Kindness has a sweetness all of its own.

In USA culture. 1. If you’re dating and constantly texting each other during work hours you probably either get a warning that’s not supposed to be happening during work hours or you’ll be fired. 2. A little tip to clue you in if a guy or woman is single or not. If a woman or man uses the word WE in conversation it most likely means that they are married or in a relationship. If they use (I) it could indicate that they are single.

I am an Indian woman and I started watching Kdrama in my teens. As a typical teenage girl, I got into the stories primarily because of the dreamy Men, angsty storylines and cultural similarities. I think these things were really what pulled me in initially but, now as I am in my 30s, I have started seeing things without the rose tinted glasses of a teenager and can really question and ponder how Male leads who are pushy, and passive aggressive are being promoted as loving and caring. Having said that, I still enjoy kdramas every once in a while but my passion for them has cooled off as I grew older.
Also, I really enjoyed the video and honestly, it was just in my recommendations and I clicked purely out of curiosity now though am glad that I did.
P.S.
my first drama was Stairway to heaven as well and I was left traumatised by it. I remember back in early 2000s the storylines really liked killing characters with blood cancer. I have shed buckets of tears 😂😂

I have only started watching dramas for about a year. What attracted me to it was that they were much cleaner than the west. But I have noticed that the women get slapped a lot and both men and women scream a lot too. That’s a bit cringey. The other thing that should change is how involved the fans get in their idols lives to the point that they can control their careers. Awful.

Exactly, that's a difference between two or more cultures. In North America (US ) dating means or involves having sex. And don't show respect for each other, values and moral are gone. I prefer 100 times the Korean culture and my own country. The US tv shows are superficial and very far from real life. Sadly to say it but it's true.

Cool that you answered those questions about K-dramas. I have noticed in many of the K-dramas that there is a large amount of drinking going on when people are upset or stressed - particularly the drinking of soju. Does that actually happen a lot in Korean society? Do the K-dramas exaggerate the drinking too much? Sometimes I worry about how peoples' livers can handle all that alcohol so frequently.
Haha, yes Korean people actually do drink a lot. You can look up the alcohol consumption stats as well~

Thank you for sharing your korean culture, family and delicious recipe. Since I started watching my 1st korean drama, i never got back to some other tv shows. I enjoy , laugh and cry with every k- drama. I know that not everything is like they show in.south korean, but definitely their culture and life style are much better in many aspects.
I don't believe in wearing all high expensive brands for clothes or bags, but i respect if others want to spend their money on that.
Personally a brand doesn't make a person.

I enjoy the Korean series so much from South Africa. I never watch any other movies anymore. I love the way they eventually only in episodes 18 ro 19 only kiss for the first time. I'm ready to let them show each other how they care from much earlier. Love how they respect each other. So enjoyable to see they don't just jump into bed first night. Sean you must cherish your wife she is cute and worth it. Tell het how much you love her, get romantic woman thrive to hear how they are cherished. Tell her often she is beautiful and you appreciate her. It will change so many things.

So happy to come across your channel. I’m an American who is obsessed with Korean dramas both from the Joseon period and modern. I am fascinated by the culture and can’t get enough of it. I think I’ve been watching them exclusively for at least two years now. I love the culture for its family connection., their love of food and their respect for each other. It is also so refreshing not to have full on sex in the first episode like American productions. Is Korean society really the slow burn that is depicted in the dramas? Are Korean couples really hands off and wait months to have their first kiss? That part seems unrealistic to me but I thought I’d ask. To answer your questions, Korean society is in fact very fast but when it comes to moral and conservative values like physical touch are definitely much slower than the western world (but not months to have the first kiss)
Hello, I loved your video, very interesting about the house deposit. I always wondered about that when characters had problems to get it back or had to use it for sth else.. the drama!! 😂 I thought its like here that you give 2 to 3 rents ahead for safety reason for the landlord.
My question is short: in K-dramas its often a problem to pay for medical bills in hospitals but from Korean youtubers you hear that the health system is cheap and easy. Whats real? Thanks from Germany 😊
Welcome to our channel~ The reality is that the medical cost in Korea is pretty affordable because of 3 reasons I think:
1. The cost itself is not super expensive like other developed countries like Europe or U.S.
2. The national public insurance is mandatory for all citizens that cover most of illness.
3. The private insurance is also well structured that one can benefit when hospitalized.

Sean has the same definition of quality time with the Korean man I met. After texting good morning, asking "잘잤어" and texting for a while before going to work I woudn't hear from him again. We are in touch again after he's off work. Then kakao before going to bed. Sometimes random text in between work but that depends if there is a chance. Texting all day and doesn't focus on work is unhealthy for me. We need to breathe too. Communication doesn't mean to text every hour. What matters most is the consistency. Now I know that Korean men aren't the same.

Hi there great video re dramas would love it if you could do more on this topic. (Fiction vs reality in drama) I started watching Kdrama during covid and have become quite interested in learning about the culture.
I was glad to hear that with regards to love triangles that mostly unrealistic for the way they portray the 3rd person with the crush to be so clingy and not handle rejection in the dramas is quite scary/insane😮
Wanted to ask I am aware of the hierachy in Korea and obviously it is the culture but where does one draw the line as such.? For yes one should respect there elders but a lot of the dramas portray the older grandpa/grandmother/chaebol/ colleague as grumpy people and almost comes across as more of a power trip even as far as slapping a younger person.
Lastly not sure if maybe lost in translation in dramas but are Korean people very private even with good friends/family ,? They seem to only tell friends family things they need to know.

Haha, I wish I could show you my mom's dishes. She usually brings at least 5 different side dishes to the table. For normal households, I would say 3~4 side dishes are common for a typical meal. You can check out my other videos about Seoul restaurants, and you'll be amazed how many side dishes are provided. As for alcohol drinking, not everyone, but a lot of people actually drink Soju quite often and quite a lot (1 bottle on average for typical Korean man).

I read somewhere that there are “hourly” hotels that cater to young people who are still living at home but have intimate relations. That seems natural to me and makes sense. What is not possible is people getting to their 30s and still completely inexperienced.
thanks for your comment. yes, there are places called 'motel' for such purposes. However, we value intimate relations done only as a married couple, in line with our Christian belief!

I would have liked to know if alcohol drinking (soju, rice wine, etc. ) is so strong and often (almost in a daily basis & after work), as shown in many k dramas?

In the US, with our healthcare system and the co-pays, most people don't visit hospitals for cuts or colds, yet I see it all the time in K-dramas.

I would like to know about bullying it seems like from the k - dramas I've seen bullying is very very intense.. while there is bullying( obviously), in America ..my experience has been that it isn't quite as intense as depicted...for instance, The Glory or other shows where even the teachers are either directly or indirectly involved.
Yes, bullying is another serious topic to cover in a separate video. Students sometimes commit suicide from it... Took a note for future content~
But we’ve been hearing about stories of young children in the US committing suicide due to bullying for years now. My own personal experience and my peers are pretty bad, mostly driven by racism where we were being verbally and physically assaulted from elementary to high school. Rather take the racial slurs over a random punch to the head/face any day. Inner city violence are both in the streets and on school grounds. So it’s bad in the U.S.

Mais je ne suis pas dupe et je suis vraiment étonnée de voir tous les commentaires de gens qui ne font pas la différence entre la fiction et la réalité. Ils ne connaissent pas le travail d'acteur on dirait. Mais bon !Je suis passionnée de livres,de musique de théâtre et de cinéma . Donc j'ai quand même assez vite compris le fonctionnement des dramas. La plupart du temps c'est le même schéma quelque soit le thème. Les scénaristes utilisent souvent le même schéma.Ne jamais se toucher ou si peu,les mères qui battent leurs filles et leurs maris, les ultras riches et les autres. La surconsommation. Les agences d'industrie du divertissement qui batissent des fortunes sur les rêves de célébrité de jeunes adolescents mais qui laissent leurs artistes aller jusqu'au suicide et assujetissent des bandes d'enfants enlevés à leurs parents pour intégrer des pseudos universités où ils sont façonnés, formatés et où tout ça se rapproche de la maltraitance. Mais ça c'est juste mon avis pas un jugement . Je m'en garderai bien. L' alcoolisme Parce que hein qu'est ce qu'ils se mettent certains-nes comme on dit chez nous.😅Ah si! La pluie,les parapluies et les promenades main dans la main. Ce n'est jamais violent (sauf les mères qui battent leurs enfants même adultes . Moi excusez moi mais ça , ça ne passe pas ). Dans le monde d'aujourd'hui le romantisme fait du bien. 😂 Et j'ai aussi découvert des artistes de grand talent, des danseurs-ses des chanteurs-ses ( une que j'aime vraiment beaucoup c'est Rachel Yamagata) des acteurs-trices comme nous n'en avons plus ici 🇨🇵et d'une grande beauté. Vous vous avez Rowoon et nous Philippe Katrine😂 Je n'aime pas voyager 🤷🏼 mais j'ai lu j'ai appris et grâce aux kdramas que je ne regarde qu'en coréen j'ai même appris quelques mots. Je ne suis pas fan du cinéma américain actuel mais ils ont eu leur âge d'or et en France le cinéma est devenu un peu trop sombre à mon goût mais nous avons de très bons films et ce qu'on appelle le cinéma d'auteur . Je ne sais pas si en Corée ça existe. Mais par ce biais là j'ai pu apprendre tellement de choses et j'en suis vraiment contente. Maintenant je suis en train d'apprendre l'histoire de la Corée et c'est très intéressant ,terrifiant sur certains côtés mais vraiment intéressant . Voilà. Ce sont mes réflexions sur les dramas. J'aurais encore beaucoup à écrire mais peut être une autre fois. Merci à vous. En espérant ne pas vous avoir ennuyés.🤭
