      I disagree. If companies focus their engineering on maximizing efficiency like Tesla and Lucid, the EVs actually weigh about the same or sometimes even less than gasoline/hybrid competitors. A Model S Long Range weighs under 4600lbs which is about the same as V8 midsize and fullsize cars from germans.

      @@timgriffith9333 since electric will be the foreseeable future i think lotus is doing a fine job of making a proper sports saloon, fun SUV, and insane supercar. too many manufacturers are falling behind, clinging to older tech and not utilizing what is out there to really set themselves up for the future. the biggest problem with EVs today is some countries refuse to move from century old tech and move into the new world, updating infrastructure and whatnot. in areas that HAVE that infrastructure, EV use is skyrocketing, especially with home-solar systems coming in (free fuel for the car). i will never see over 150 in a car. my current 200k mile economy hatchback (albeit with a huge v6 stuffed in it by yours truly) and it's 140+ top speed will soon bow out to an EV once i strap a solar system to my roof. i'm already in talks with an installer, and the power should cover all my ridiculous computer systems, AC, and charging an EV to boot, and i will basically stop paying the electric company ANYTHING. for me, thats 250 dollars a month in electric deleted, 300 dollars a month in gas deleted. 550 dollars a month goes a long way to paying off my solar panels! plus, im not changing oil every 5k....

I moved on just as the Evija concept was released. I had always wondered why Lotus was allowed to stagnate for so long given its incredible pedigree. Clearly Geely felt the landscape shift to EV and waited to see how best to react. Surprisingly for an electric car it actually looks good. Inside the quality and finish also looks good. But whats with all the electronic rubbish, electronic mirrors, silly sunroof patterns and crap like that, that no one wants or will use. And all the controls on the touch screen. The screen is too big and looks stupid. What is this obsession with huge ugly screens stuck in the middle of the dash recently. Stick in a 10 inch screen, put physical controls back in the car, and get rid of all that unnecessary electronic gimmicks and crap no one needs then Lotus will have a car to watch out for. Having said that I would still never buy it as its electric. An electric sports car is just wrong. It needs to sound like a car, not a whiny milk float.

    I think this is one of the most stunning vehicles ever conceived. It’s bang up to date, luxurious, elegant and sort of minimalist (I think). However I am concerned by the size of the battery pack. It’s too big IMO. Overall, an imaginatively designed and brilliantly executed benchmark for the 4 door tourer segment. What’s not to love.

    • @K22MDL
      @K22MDL 9 місяців тому +1

      A battery in an EV can never be big enough, believe me. Had four of them in the last 2 years. Current technology is just too heavy, too slow to charge and ultimately not sufficient to bannish range anxiety. I'll come back in three years when hopefully solid state batteries will change the whole dynamics of the entire crop of EV's.

    • @GolLeeMe
      @GolLeeMe 9 місяців тому +2

      @@K22MDL I am not so sure. Solid state are tricky to make and expensive. Scalability is key here, but we are not there yet IMO. We are using rare minerals at a rate that is not sustainable, even with recycling in mind (if you can find it). Limitations on battery materials is not my thing either, so I don’t think regulation is necessary. But I do wish that we could find better tech to get around this issue, and fast. Talk about save the planet…….
      We are looking at this from the wrong point of view and focusing far too much on range anxiety. Smaller batteries with faster charging (OK, it’s not that fast really what with rapid gating and cold gating considerations) with more frequent but quicker charging is the way forward. Only my opinion, but look to companies like Caterham, who have a different mind set in this regard. If you can get 250km range before a recharge then that dovetails with a 2 hour drive time before a rest period, provided chargers are plentiful along the way. Instead of lugging heavy battery packs around and using energy to move a mass, make them lighter and smaller. It’s also a safety (crash) and infrastructure issue to keep them small. It makes sense.

      My guess is this would be in the 7:30s or even 7:40s at the nurburgring vs the 7:25 of a plaid. Or 7:30 of the taycan.

    • @lachlanB323
      @lachlanB323 9 місяців тому +2

      @@4literv6 It won't be. It will have substantially worse handling the the model S plaid. Here is why: 2 motors instead of 3 which means no torque vectoring which that alone makes it an 8 minute car, has the weight of a model X plaid meaning it weighs 322kg more then the model s plaid! That's just to much weight, then we have the hp, 900hp and the top speed of 153mph is really bad as a model s plaid does 200mph. Although top speed only adds like 2-3 seconds to a model S's time so it doesn't matter that much on the nurburgring. Then we also have the fact that it doesn't sustain 900hp due to the motors not being carbo sleeved, then we need more info on the battery to know if it overheats or not.

    It (and the eletre) look very cool, however, I dont think these cars should be 'lotuses'.
    Let me explain: Geely owns Lotus. We in Britain (and Europe) dont know who they are, so when they inevitably come to sell a cheap electric car in the UK, we'll buy a vollswagen instead. What they should be doing is bringing over their normal, cheap cars (of which we dont have nearly enough) and making Lotus versions of them, like ford did with the lotus cortina, and then taking them racing.
    Then we see these new cars, and we want to buy them. Lotus themselves should just go on making sports cars and maybe they should make these a few years down the line.
    I know that this is the traditional lotus model, but it's worked so far
