      I disagree. If companies focus their engineering on maximizing efficiency like Tesla and Lucid, the EVs actually weigh about the same or sometimes even less than gasoline/hybrid competitors. A Model S Long Range weighs under 4600lbs which is about the same as V8 midsize and fullsize cars from germans.

      @@timgriffith9333 since electric will be the foreseeable future i think lotus is doing a fine job of making a proper sports saloon, fun SUV, and insane supercar. too many manufacturers are falling behind, clinging to older tech and not utilizing what is out there to really set themselves up for the future. the biggest problem with EVs today is some countries refuse to move from century old tech and move into the new world, updating infrastructure and whatnot. in areas that HAVE that infrastructure, EV use is skyrocketing, especially with home-solar systems coming in (free fuel for the car). i will never see over 150 in a car. my current 200k mile economy hatchback (albeit with a huge v6 stuffed in it by yours truly) and it's 140+ top speed will soon bow out to an EV once i strap a solar system to my roof. i'm already in talks with an installer, and the power should cover all my ridiculous computer systems, AC, and charging an EV to boot, and i will basically stop paying the electric company ANYTHING. for me, thats 250 dollars a month in electric deleted, 300 dollars a month in gas deleted. 550 dollars a month goes a long way to paying off my solar panels! plus, im not changing oil every 5k....

    Geely took their time, intelligently I believe, revamping Lotus but have returned with a fury. I was a service partner to Lotus USA so was up close and personal for many years. I moved on just as the Evija concept was released. I had always wondered why Lotus was allowed to stagnate for so long given its incredible pedigree. Clearly Geely felt the landscape shift to EV and waited to see how best to react. They, intelligently, didn't give up on ICE and released the gorgeous Emira while also throwing out two of the best looking EV's I have seen to date. Here is why: 2 motors instead of 3 which means no torque vectoring which that alone makes it an 8 minute car, has the weight of a model X plaid meaning it weighs 322kg more then the model s plaid! That's just to much weight, then we have the hp, 900hp and the top speed of 153mph is really bad as a model s plaid does 200mph. Although top speed only adds like 2-3 seconds to a model S's time so it doesn't matter that much on the nurburgring. Then we also have the fact that it doesn't sustain 900hp due to the motors not being carbo sleeved, then we need more info on the battery to know if it overheats or not.

      A battery in an EV can never be big enough, believe me. Had four of them in the last 2 years. Current technology is just too heavy, too slow to charge and ultimately not sufficient to bannish range anxiety. I'll come back in three years when hopefully solid state batteries will change the whole dynamics of the entire crop of EV's.

    • @GolLeeMe
      @GolLeeMe Рік тому +2

      @@K22MDL I am not so sure. Solid state are tricky to make and expensive. Scalability is key here, but we are not there yet IMO. We are using rare minerals at a rate that is not sustainable, even with recycling in mind (if you can find it). Limitations on battery materials is not my thing either, so I don’t think regulation is necessary. But I do wish that we could find better tech to get around this issue, and fast. Talk about save the planet…….
      We are looking at this from the wrong point of view and focusing far too much on range anxiety. Smaller batteries with faster charging (OK, it’s not that fast really what with rapid gating and cold gating considerations) with more frequent but quicker charging is the way forward. Only my opinion, but look to companies like Caterham, who have a different mind set in this regard. If you can get 250km range before a recharge then that dovetails with a 2 hour drive time before a rest period, provided chargers are plentiful along the way. Instead of lugging heavy battery packs around and using energy to move a mass, make them lighter and smaller. It’s also a safety (crash) and infrastructure issue to keep them small. It makes sense.

      They are supposed to offer a 2 seat lightweight coupe ev cayman/boxter fighter in late 2025 or 2026.
      Project 135 is the code name and the engineers stated getting within 100kg of the emira is one of the goals for it. 👍🏻

But Alcantara steering wheel covering?! - what a terrible idea!-finger tips are naturally oily - I don’t fancy trying to keep that clean and what about the nap on what is the most frequent touch point of the car - how long will that look good for?!

    Great car! But Taycan slayer not. I don't think it will be competitive at this price point and market segment - all Lotus EVs will be made in China at Geely OEM factories... nor there is anything wrong with this engineering wise but the cache.

    • @ciybersal3499
      @ciybersal3499 Рік тому +2

      It probably won't beat Taycan as it's larger n heavier and Lotus have tried to cater to a hyper luxury sports Sedan segment rather than a lighter purely sports bred EV instead with cruising in mind as Asian appetite are high for such vehicles. Also the global launch was in NYC rather than euro, the American market is in sights where luxury long distance cruising is much bigger thing

      The second place in the electric vehicle group is zeekr 001 FR
      The third place is electre

    I’m torn. As a former Elise owner, the best car I’ve ever owned and miss it dearly, I love it because it’s Lotus. I can also see that this is the direction that all car manufacturers are being driven in and Lotus is an early adaptor and is going with it with both barrels. It gives me hope for them as a company. But the flip side is……look at it! It’s truly, absolutely gargantuan! I know current EV architecture dictates the size to a certain extent and I know this is luxury sports tourer territory, but bloody hell, it looks massive! Something has to change
