I love pointing out why Roy chose Issac: 1. When Ted benched Jamie, Roy was next to Issac when he made room for Nate to sit. 2. Roy saw Issac stand up to Jamie when he told Colin to set up cones 3. Roy is shown in the background watching Issac tell a teammate to pay attention when watching Iron Giant.
It's so good because the first time I missed all but like one of those little hints so the Issac choice was bewildering to me, but once you re-watch and see all those moments of Issac's subtle character growth it all comes together beautifully!
i think that what finally did it was him smashing the tv, only one of the squad who did anything after being shown to be slagged off on tv. think it showed character to roy as that's what he was like if it's truly based of keane

Y'all are easily among the very best Ted Lasso reactions on YT. Love how deeply you've connected with the show, and SO excited for you to see what's to come in S2.
If you go back to ep 2, when Ted gives Sam one of his soldiers and Sam mentions that his dad tugs his ear for luck, Jamie says, “Give me a f*ckin’ break.” You think he’s just being his usual a-hole self. Now, you know that he reacted to the demonstration of positive fatherly love with anger and jealousy.
I noticed that upon a second watching. It shows that Jamie is aware of the significance of the toy soldier when he receives one from Ted here at the end ❤
I've heard somewhere that the number that Isaac skips in his count-up is the number of Roy's field position, so it's in honor of him as he's not starting.
I've always just chalked it up to Isaac being a bit dim, lol but you're right. 8 spot is the Box to Box Midfielder, and we know from episode 1, that's what Roy Kent plays.
as someone with indian parents... nate is what happens when you beat someone down for their whole life, and suddenly something good happens. some people need to be taught how to win.
Jamie making the extra pass for the Man City win was heartbreaking and the introduction of his father was something with Ted being there to witness it. Roy going out is sad as well, but we had a great scene with him and Keely and Jamie and that locker room scene, tears. Season 2! Let's go!
If you think about it, Keeley is THE FIRST person (other than Beard) to "buy in" to what Ted was trying to do. She recognizes that he's a good guy with people's best interest at heart when she comes back to the locker room in Ep1 and her nipples have tape over them.
And I've also just realised that, with the ongoing importance the Believe poster has, it is so significan that it is Keeley that helps Ted with setting it up. I've felt for a while that Keeley, as much as Ted, is responsible for the transformation that happens with so many people in this show. I just never twigged that that fact is echoed symbolically through the Believe poster. Just when I think my admiration for the writing of this show can get no higher...
Jamie's little half smile when he sees the army guy in the envelope kills me every time. And although he's going about it in his worst immature way, I can't really hold his resentment of Ted against him here - I mean, from his point of view, he opened up and made it clear he was going to change and be a part of the team, and then he immediately got sent away. And as far as he knows, it was Ted's doing. Loving sports that much, it really is a double-edged sword. Lots of storms to walk through. (I'm a Liverpool supporter and You'll Never Walk Alone is our anthem, so the scenes with that playing have added weight to me.)
Something I noticed through watching these reactions too-Jamie was there when Ted gave Sam an army man and explained the meaning behind it. I think Jamie was jealous because he didn’t have a good relationship with his father or anything to help him feel safe, so he scoffed to hide his insecurities. So when Ted gives him an army man, he’s deeply touched because he knows exactly why Ted is giving it to him. I love this show so much.
Nikki almost losing it a few times was great. It's okay Nikki, this show is as emotional as it's fantastic. Awesome reaction n it was great to have 2 episodes reactions in a week, loved that. Have a great weekend guys
Beard and Nate were right that starting Roy on the bench was best for the team, but Ted was also right that sending him in for the second half was best for the _man_ - if Roy's playing career is done, and it almost certainly is, then Roy's absolutely the kind of player who'd want to go out in a blaze of glory rather than simply fade away.
Dani Rojas actor was a professional footballer, who's career ended very soon because of a serious injury. Sometimes the injuries are recoverable, but sometimes they're so hard that there's no recovery & coming back from. Roy's knee injury might've been recoverable, but his age lowers his chances to come back
In my job for a health provider (not a doctor or medic of any kind) I see a lot of stuff written about sports injuries, and football has a lot of torn anterior crucial ligaments (ACLs), which is a twisting injury with your foot planted in a stuck position, which is common in football because of the rapid turns and the studs to grip in the mud. It can be fixed up with an operation, but it's a very serious injury, and you can easily end up with it being permanent, which as a normal non-athlete you can get by with fine, but as an elite athlete it would almost certainly end your career. The menisci in the knee can also get damaged and occasionally flip over so that they block the knee. This can again be fixed, but it effectively puts you on the fast track to osteoarthritis. Judging by Roy's problems later, I'd guess it could quite likely be that. There have been plenty of young football players who looked like they would have stellar careers, but whose actual careers were blighted with multiple injuries. Footballers may be notorious for faking being hurt and/or injured in matches, but they can also be truly seriously injured playing football, and it can end their careers, so I think we have to take a balanced view on football injuries. I'm no fan of the faking, but I don't want to see young men get hurt and effectively lose their dream and their income.
If you go back and re-watch earlier episodes of this season, there are several blink and you miss it moments with Isaac that show why he's the best person to be new captain. (This show is so well written)
What I love about Ted lasso is the first season is superb but somehow the character growth and arcs just get better, season 2 and 3 are even better than the first which is so rare for a series like this
Ted Lasso is so well written. Americans spot all the American moments. British people see all the British moments and then there are mental health lessons, film references , musical references so many layers it is so so clever . And you just love all the characters
A point that I love but rarely see mentioned is the similarities between Jaime’s father yelling at Jaime and Ted yelling at Jaime a few episodes ago. Both times we see Jaime just shut down. I think it really humanizes Jaime’s character. Especially when as an audience we all rooted for Ted while he was doing it, but felt bad for Jaime when his Father does it
Yes…Jamie did indeed say that he gets to put the final nail in the ashes and that it’s the caramel that gets you. Fantastic subtle writing delivered perfectly by Phil Dunster
Having them relegated was so much better for the story. Rebecca realized she was wrong in the previous episode but that shouldn't be enough to escape consequences. Ted's approach was like a college coach who cares more about the people than the results and it took Beard finally snapping and telling him wins matter and these are pros for him to realize the situation, having them win on a silly football like play and survive would've been a cop out. If the show is going to try and send some message, part of it has to be actions have consequences, but they way they did it showing that Ted did get through to Jamie, was great. Getting relegated sets up a much more interesting story for season 2
"... story and character arcs of these people are just incredible..." They really are well written. And rest assured, only surfaces have been scratched so far. This show continues to deliver to the very end.
It was was a small thing but as Jaime opens the letter the song playing is "you never walk alone" a song sung at every Liverpool match. The Roy injury is such a great send off moment for him, him getting his chant one last time on the field, including the moment in the locker room with Keley, where he lets her in a bit. The EFL championship and champions league are 2 separate things and you more or less nailed it.
A fun little bit: Sam's and Roy's injuries are the exact opposite of each other. Sam's was on offense, Roy's on defense. Sam wasn't really injured much, Roy was very much so. Roy told Sam to wait to win the crowd, Sam held Roy down while the crowd serenaded him. And, the "Championship" is the Tier 2 of the English Football League, the "Champion's League" is the pan-European tournament with the best teams from each country's previous season.
I have really enjoyed re-watching this perfect series with you both. Your hearts will be broken, but you will love the next two seasons! Love it for you and can't wait to watch you watch it! Love you guys.
I always love Colin’s comment about not having barbers in Manchester and then you see Jamie having his hair cut down in Richmond. It’s a small thing but it always shows to me that he’s really more at home in Richmond than he is in Manchester.
I’m so glad you guys loved this show. I knew you would! it’s really good at subverting expectations and our heroes losing at the end comes as such a shock. but ted’s #1 priority is still making sure these guys become the best versions of themselves they can be. in that regard, no losers here. also there’s plenty of crying in soccer so don’t hold back nikki
This is one of the greatest season finales of all times. Sadly, I knew they weren't going to win, and I too was telling them not to be celebrating when they thought they got the tie and the game was over. Ugh, poor Jamie. It's hard not to feel for him in that moment. It's a short scene, but it tells us so much. And Ted seeing it? Oof. Ted's locker room speech is so good. I'm glad he told them they were allowed to be upset, because there have been many instances where an athelete (or anyone who loses) is told to get over it or not show that the'yre upset. Emotions are okay, and I love how important it is to Ted that his teams knows it and that they are allowed to be emotional. Onward, forward. Can't wait for y'all to get into season 2. I just subscribed on Patreon so I can watch with you guys!
And yeah, that forehead to the doorframe was completely real and unscripted. That was Hannah Waddingham's (Rebecca's) real reaction to seeing that happen. By the way, one thing you guys may want to watch is Hannah's Emmy Award acceptance speech for season 1. She deserves every accolade that can be given. I am sad it took so long for her to be discovered because she's phenomenal. Love her this woman is the epitomy of charisma!!!
17:47 btw the reason Isaac intentionally skip the 8 is because that is Roy's position and he is not on the field, that is also the reason he chose to count to 12 and not 11.
I have to admit that I had tears when the crowd chanted for Roy. I have really enjoyed this show. Once again, y'all brought another great series to us. I so appreciate your hard work.
I am a little sad that we didn't get to see your reaction to Rupert's comeuppance. "There's something worse than being sad, it's being alone and sad." At the end Rupert is shown alone in his apartment (Becks apparently left) depressed.
One of the first big lessons I learned about football (and life for that matter :) - you've got to "play to the whistle". So ingrained is that idea that I "knew" this was coming when everyone started celebrating before the final whistle had blown (but of course it still hurts). Lot of fun watching this with you guys, roll on season 2 :).
Looking back you see moments that show why Jamie is the way he is, of course you don’t pass the ball when that’s how your Dad reacts. How much did it hurt when Ted looked him in the eye and walked away? I know he gave him a note and that’s amazing but still I understand how what Jamie would see is him getting set away, back to his abusive father, then Ted seeing him in danger and walking away. I loved his little smile, when he read the note, at least knowing that Ted acknowledged him passing the ball that he is growing. I don’t care what anyone says Rebecca not telling the team and Jamie what she did was taking the cowards way out. Of course Ted forgave her, he would forgive someone setting him on fire, it was not just Ted that she hurt and they should have been able to decide if they forgive her.
When Nikki said "I wish I could care about a sport this much" I totally understand! I never cared about any sports until I watched Welcome to Wrexham, which is sorta like a real-life Ted Lasso, and follows a lower league team's promotion through the EFL. Now I live and breathe Wrexham and haven't missed a match in almost 3 years, including 6 games in-person. Highly recommend the show.
It’s now you need to really listen 😊 It all links in and calls back…..the soldier for one and Jamie turns the you into us, just like Ted was trying to get him to do
31:30 is so true Steven. I hurt my chest at practice, wtf was that, go to doctors - 'you ripped your lung almost clean in half', recovery is 8-12 months for just the lung post-surgery. Welp, last time I stepped on the baseball diamond ;(
21:04 every pro athlete’s worst nightmare. When they realize that their body has quit on them and that signals that’s it. No athlete wants that. They would rather go out their own way and when they decide.
Nikki, I’m not that much into sports, other than US football, but the “Miracle” game in 1980 was just so incredibly moving, even to 13 year old me. It was the only time I ever wept at a sports win.
Relegated! Really didn't expect that. This show gives you unexpected twists. Just when you think you know where it's going, it takes you in a whole other direction. I'm enjoying your reactions so much. Again, I wish I could watch it on Patreon, but I don't have the Apple App so, I always have to wait to watch when I visit my son's home. Then, it's on the whole time I'm there. LOL! Love it!
This show is so great. I grew up in a football (soccer) loving country surrounded by people who loved and played the sport all the time since they were kids and I never cared about it at all, but this show is like Rocky. It's not a show about football just like Rocky is a movie franchise about a guy's life and not about boxing. I actually recommended the show to my brother who just LOVES football and he loved it too. Also, they had the guts to tell a story that has a finale instead of extending it for a million seasons until it starts sucking.
When Isaac counts in the team, he leaves out the number 8 because that's the position that Roy played on the field as a midfielder, not the number he wore on his shirt. Hence why counting to 12 and not the usual 11 team members.
PS, thank you for an explanation to the phrase 'kiss your sister'. Every other react video I've watched from other US reactors have said they've never heard the phrase. Now it makes sense. Basically, something gross, I get it now.
16:33 Just as a heads up the vast majority of league games in English football (Europe & most footballing nations too I believe) can't go to penalty kicks, they simply end in a draw with each team gaining 1 point. Penalty shootouts typically only occur during the knockout stages of tournaments (club & international), or for play-off promotion games at the end of a season, which are essentially mini tournaments in the knockout fashion between the teams who finish 3rd-6th in the league to decide which single one gets promoted to the higher league alongside the 1st & 2nd placed teams who receive automatic promotion. The Premier League is the top tier of English football, meaning there are no play off games because there is no possible promotion & it simply comes down to overall league points. (or various other statistics potentially, if the top 2 teams are level on points). Usually in these applicable tournament games that can end up in penalty kicks there is a period of 30 minutes of extra time (2 halves of 15 minutes) for either team to still try & win by regular means, but if they are still tied afterwards only then does it go to a penalty shootout after 120 minutes of total game time. Apologies if it's a bit long-winded but I think there is a misconception sometimes that penalty shootouts are fairly commonplace & thought I'd try explain why not in as best a summary as I can. Loving the Ted Lasso journey guys! 👍👍
He really hit his head. Stiches were required! Ouch. The soldier Ted gave Jamie was with binoculars. Ted telling Jamie he sees him. Premier League down to Championship.
There are a bunch of callbacks in this episode, most of which you caught or someone else in the comments has mentioned. One more I haven’t seen mentioned is what I call the bookends. The first thing you see this season (after the quick training montage) is a closeup of Rebecca’s face. The last thing you see this season? Also a closeup of Rebecca’s face.
Ted calling God ‘She’. ☺️☺️☺He's here, he's there, he's every-f*cking-where! Roy Kent! ROY KENT! 🥳 You're so right, Nikki -- Sam has the warmest smile. ❤ It's incredible that with a few lines, we understand exactly why Jamie is the way he is. 😭 A lot of people say that about a lot of tv characters, but I think this is one of my favourite examples ever of that efficient kind of storytelling after the long setup of Jamie being such a dick.
“Win the whole fucking thing” I’m glad you guys called out the Major League reference. I’ve watched a few reactions and I haven’t seen anyone mention that they knew it ❤️
The tier system explained….there is 4 leagues in English professional football, ‘League 2’ ‘League 1’ and ‘the championship’ these are classed as EFL or English football league then you have ‘the premier league’ which is the top tier (the best). Every season the bottom 3 in each league gets relegated to the lower league and the top 2 of each EFL league get automatically promoted to the league above, the 3rd team to get promoted out of each league have a playoff competition with teams that finish the season in position 6,5,4,3 of there respective leagues. In the premier league you have a winner of the league and the top 4 of that league qualifies for the ‘champions league’ which is europes top club competition that runs alongside each countries domestic leagues. There’s a little more to explain but that’s pretty much the foundation of it. Hope it helps 😅 love the reactions 👍 from the uk!
Trust me, it never gets “not wholesome”. They do start getting into a bit more of the players’ headspace/ stories and they’re delightful. And next season you get to meet the delight that is Jan Maas, the Dutchiest Dutchman that ever Dutched a Dutch. Also, maybe someday, when you don’t have the time/ head space for a full episode, react to the original sketches where Ted first appeared. It was when NBC Universal got the rights to show/ rebroadcast Premiere League on their HD Digital sports channels (like, the ones in the 800s on the TV) where they show Rugby at 3 in the morning (the only sport that matters). And speaking of, Invictus. Helluva watch and great sports movie.
So I just recently discovered your channel reacting to Ted Lasso. Since I’ve enjoyed your reactions so much, I dug through your older reactions and am now also enjoying your Sons of Anarchy reactions. For some reason you both seem happier when reacting to Ted Lasso than you were watching Sons. 🤷🏼♂️
Close to tears for Jamie's little moment Nikki?😮😂 Love this show and your reactions are great. Champions league you have to be one of top 4 teams in England to qualify. Some leagues 9nky get two teams depending on their nations teams previous results in the competition. Then there's Europa League. Still a European tournament but for slightly smaller clubs. In England teams that finished 5th to 8th in the league get in. In terms of domestic the bottom 3 teams go down. From the league below the two top-finishing teams in the Championship are automatically promoted to the Premier League. The teams that finish the season in 3rd to 6th place enter a playoff tournament, with the winner also gaining promotion to the Premier League. Same in leagues below. Premiership, Championship, Div 1, div 2, then it goes regional leagues after that.
Yes, top 3 swap with the bottom 3. Side note: Wrexham is in a position for their 3rd straight promotion, this time to the Championship league from EFL1
The top 2 go up automatically. 3rd to 6th have playoffs to decide the third team to go up. Wrexham are currently 3rd so in a position for the playoffs.
Relegation rules for English Premier League (EPL): Bottom three teams in Premier league relegated. Top 2 in Championship replace them; 3rd through 7th go into a promotion playoff. The difficult part of the Championship is that the season is longer (24 teams; Premier is only 20 teams) and the finances arent nearly as good with TV money, sponsorships etc. dropping in value and contracts are still at Premier levels. This is why Beard snapped at Ted about the importance of winning.
Being American an not having religation you might not realise how serious it is. It's a massive finacial hit. You lose millions in TV rights for the matches but you still have to pay your players the same amount or they leave. They might just want to leave rather than playing in a lower league. It's a slippery slope. Teams can fall down and down the leagues until they are out. I would high;y recomend after you finish Lasso you take a look a Welcome To Wrexham. The story of a non league clumb trying to get back to top flight football after being bought by American owners.

A point that I love but rarely see mentioned is the similarities between Jaime’s father yelling at Jaime and Ted yelling at Jaime a few episodes ago. Both times we see Jaime just shut down. I think it really humanizes Jaime’s character. Especially when as an audience we all rooted for Ted while he was doing it, but felt bad for Jaime when his Father does it
The trail of breadcrumbs of Jamie's story is one of the many amazing bits of writing on this show.
“Being accountable matters.”
"... story and character arcs of these people are just incredible..." They really are well written.
20:07 he’s here he’s there he’s every f**king where Roy Kent! Roy Kent!
"What's worse than being sad?" "Being sad & alone" that hits hard!
I don’t know how anyone can watch this show and not get emotional over it.
I have really enjoyed re-watching this perfect series with you both. Your hearts will be broken, but you will love the next two seasons! Love it for you and can't wait to watch you watch it! Love you guys.
I love, love, love that ending.
Richmond loses, but TED wins. He gets through to Jaime.
I teared up during all those Roy scenes.
"I still stand by my prediction that's he's gonna be like a club manager at some point in his life."
Laughs in hammers
13:17 Steven's "chaos is a ladder" references kill me every time lmfao
This show is like a balm to Nikki for all her Yellowstone-related watchings.
I agree so much!!! Thank you
I am a little sad that we didn't get to see your reaction to Rupert's comeuppance.
"There's something worse than being sad, it's being alone and sad."
At the end Rupert is shown alone in his apartment (Becks apparently left) depressed.
You mean Hollywood FC? 😏
I can't wait for see their reaction to season 2 Nate.
I love watching them both react to Ted Lasso, a series that I love, I have to say that my favorite character is Jaime ❤❤
13:20 Yes, that was improv. Lasso legit knocked himself quite silly with that dance stunt through the door.
Dear Nikki and Steven, Love the shout out to the family! Love and Thanks 2 U Both!
It’s now you need to really listen 😊
It all links in and calls back…..the soldier for one and Jamie turns the you into us, just like Ted was trying to get him to do
The Championship is the next league down from Premier. The top 2 places get promoted, and the next 4 go through playoffs to get the third promotion.
When Ted yells “sorry Mrs shipley” in this episode and last episode was a nod to jason sudakus’ teacher mrs shipley
LOL! Love it!
“It is late, sir”
“YEEEEEEEEES OH MY GOD YEEEEES”
😂
And second live you guys love your reactions you guys saved me thru my collage years and I’m finally gunna graduate keep the awesome videos coming
Congrats! Total stranger here, proud of you!
@ thanks you don’t know but that actually means a lot
I just wanted to eat my dinner, and I was cruising on UA-cam to watch something. Now I'm a happy man!
34:40 I think it was more a "Man City already won the title and was giving their younger players some playing time" situation.
I love : It is late sir 2 seconds later : OMG YESSSS!!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣
"It is late sir!"
Precedes to scream Footbal is life
Lol, I love you guys
"I think this will go down to penalty kicks". There you go... the football knowledge (or lack of) is showing 😅
I cannot WAIT for you guys to get into next season. The best is yet to come, in my opinion. 🙂
Remember Jaime won by doing what Ted was trying to get him to do the whole time.
He really hit his head. Stiches were required! Ouch. The soldier Ted gave Jamie was with binoculars. Ted telling Jamie he sees him. Premier League down to Championship.
I’m in love with this show. Do season 2 eps 1 asap guys, can’t wait
I’m embarrassed at how long it took me to figure out what in the fuck “Anta Barbara, California” really was.
Yes! “Fans of Ted Lasso” get another reaction this week!
Isaac's "oops, innit" KILLS ME.
The show just keeps getting better too. Counting down the days until season 3 episode 6. I can’t wait
i LOVE LOVE LOVE your reaction - one of my favorite shows of all time
Miracle! Love that movie. 1980 Men’s Olympic team 👍🏼 much love ❤️ and I’m Canadian
"is that why Colin is sad?" - Nate has a bit of a mean streak in him, doesn't he?
🤐
It’s so hard for me to not spoil when they get happy at moments like that lol
That Mumford version of You'll Never Walk Alone is just gorgeous.
Everytime she says “Lashoes” I just hope the editor inserts a clip from Mean Girls about ‘stop trying to make fetch happen’.
Nikki: Shhhh. It’s late sir.
4 seconds later- YASSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!
Thank you for getting Major League, you're the first react I've seen to get it.
Great episode 👏
So I just recently discovered your channel reacting to Ted Lasso. Since I’ve enjoyed your reactions so much, I dug through your older reactions and am now also enjoying your Sons of Anarchy reactions. For some reason you both seem happier when reacting to Ted Lasso than you were watching Sons. 🤷🏼♂️
Close to tears for Jamie's little moment Nikki?😮😂
Love this show and your reactions are great.
@ I stand corrected
Ted and Jaime …. It’s just my favorite storyline this season.
