I do think a Mother 1 remake makes the most sense. The other 2 are still great to this day, but the original needs the most tuning up
A touch up with sprinting and animation, mixed with balancing (and maybe a more compelling storyline) would make the game great! Although, making the game easier would make the game feel shorter.
I still loved mother 1, but I agree for sure
So you might want to look at a fan game called Mother Encore, which is a remake of Mother 1.
Honestly a port of both games to Mother 3's engine or something similar would be great. That said, even a romhack of Earthbound that remakes Mother 1 would be all that is needed I feel
@@willbrgamer5137 where would I find this?
a clay art style would be amazing maybe with different costumes
Yes!!! I was about to say the exact same thing! That style would capture the essence of the mother series perfectly
Good idea
on the artstyle: I've always thought it would be cool if an Earthbound had Octopath's 3D sprite thing going on, but with the Peanuts artstyle, since it was inspired by peanuts
That could work. Personally I'd opt for a 3D clay style like the concept art. Both would be extremely difficult to make work, but I think the clay style would be more rewarding.
Dude fuck octopath 3D
(This post was made by the Charming Limited 3D of Pokémon B/W gang)
Just keep it all 2d, enough with the pseudo-3d stuff.
@@Cool-Vest something like the link's awakening remake on switch art style would be great
@@ihaveakirbyobessesion2617 It could work, but I feel like it could be MORE stylized. I think the clay look supports the darker and weirder undertones of the game more than a plastic-y toy one.
I think they should remake Earthbound Beginnings first. I feel like theres more potential in that game that needs to be tapped into.
Makes sense to remake mother 1 for nintens adventure
I mean we already got a full translation of the game(one that already existed, but an unreleased one, and an improved version like Star Fox 2)
Well, fans are making a remake of original Mother, it's called Mother Encore.
Excuse me for saying this but, I believe that MOTHER 2 needs a remake a little more than 1, but still a MOTHER 1 remake is not a bad idea
@@ButterflyBlossom6415 I recommend Eastward, Boot Hill Heroes and Bounties. They are Earthbound inspired.

_The Real Question here is:_ *Should the WHOLE Mother Trilogy get a Remake within a Collection?*
Totally agree. I hate when there are remakes or re-release that changes a lot of thing so that there is almost always never a "definitive version" because each one has its own strengths and weaknesses. They can be a good experience for old fans but it's frustrating when playing a game for the first time to know that you're might be missing something. Even the so called "Quality of Life" changes can be controversial and can radically change the experience. Remakes works when they are just 1:1 adaptation that update graphics or controls or when they are complete reimagination of the original so that they are completely different experience that makes playing both worth. But most of the time they are in an awkward position inbetween that make them less accessible, especially if the original can be easily emulated or is available on modern platforms. As a fan I'd like to see an earthbound remake, but thinking about it, chances are that most probably it would be underwhelming
I agree, but very contraversal opinion just look at how much hate bdsp got for almost being 1:1
I think this is why the Pixel Remasters of the FF games aren't the best versions to play, because they intentionally left out content that was available in previous versions. Graphics aside, if you play the PSP versions of FF1, FF2 and FF4, for example, you can experience everything in one playthrough. Those are the most comprehensive versions of those games, that contain every iterative improvement and content addition since their original releases, plus stuff that was added to those versions (FF1 has Labyrinth of Time, FF2 has Arcane Labyrinth, and FF4 has its sequels bundled in one). In order for a version to be definitive in my eyes, it has to be the most comprehensive version of the game. I can live with the graphics not being upgraded, and will consider that a missed opportunity, but if it doesn't have all the content from prior versions, then it's not definitive, since you'll still have a reason to play them at that point.
@@shinyrayquaza9 Yeah, kinda true, haven't played bdsp so I can't talk from experience, but I know it was not well received. To be fair, pokemon is a special case. Pokemon is one of the few games where remakes have high potential and could not just be nostalgia-bait cash grabs, since pokemon games have high replayability and there are many additions in each gen, like different mechanics, gimmicks, features and expanded pokedex. Also pokemon games have a big social aspect in them, so re-releasing them means you have access to internet connection (except frlg of course) and compatibility with new games. So releasing a 1:1 remake in this case is not the same as in other game. Yes you get new graphics and (limited) connectivity but not everything else.
Expectation plays also a big part. So far we have always had full remakes that gave us a lot of new content that were more on the "new experience" kind, and because of that many had high hopes on the DP remakes, games that are notorious in the community of being held back by various problems (some of them fixed in platinum). Instead (as far as I know) we got the same game with a few new features but that carries many of the problems of the original and have new one. That does not mean that all past remakes were not controversial. Many, for example, consider Emerald to be better than ORAS. But as ORAS were "different enough" games, it made it worth it to play them even if they aren't the "definitive edition". The same thing can't be said when comparing Platinum and BDSP.
I've also heard that bdsp was controversial for other reasons, like it was buggy and GTS and Pokemon Home arrived late, so there is also a technical aspect.
Other games, instead, suffer less problems from 1:1 remakes. For example a story focused RPG with already solid gameplay mechanics can just be remade with with new graphics, if someone disliked the new coat of paint could just play the original. In the case of pokemon, to be fair we don't really need any new remakes, because the mechanics are fundamentally the same since gen 4 (generational gimmicks aside), and if there is no intention to add an extended dex and new features, it's better to just release the old games virtual console-style with online functionality and added compatibility with Home.
@@tamerkoh In fairness almost all of that content is throw-away post-game challenge nonsense that wasn't really high quality content in the first place, but I do miss FFV getting more jobs... even if all of those jobs are rubbish.
@@deedoubs Doesn't matter though, people can't form their own opinions on it if it's not available to experience to begin with. I for one loved the extra content, especially FF2 adding more story and lore with the dead party and Deumion. Since you cannot experience this in the PR, it is by definition not definitive.
1:20 a dedicated condiments inventory is an interesting idea. the idea i like most is having food with condiments restore some PP instead of extra HP. thats not my idea, some hack or remake had it, but i don't remember which
Mother 2 Deluxe?
Personally, I think that the protagonists need more ‘character moments.’ Outside of their introductory cutscenes, the characters barely say anything or interact with each other, and I think that’s a weakness of the original game.
I'd love that. The few they have are really good, but are so few and far between.
Playing as Luigi would truly perfect the game, maybe they could add Dedede as well
Crossing my fingers for Shadow!
hopping for sir kibble and glunk!
Gotta give you props, this is an excellent discussion that looks at every aspect in depth from a variety of angles without feeling padded. A lot of these types of videos don't approach this nearly as well as you did, well done!
Thank you so much!
I feel like Mother would be better for a remake over Mother 2. Mother hasn't aged extremely well (even for a Famicom RPG). Modernizing Mother to a standard like Mother 3 with scrolling HP and better balancing during the ending segments (Looking at Mt. Holy Loly specifically.)
I disagree, MOTHER 2 has glitches, the bosses are easy, I agree that MOTHER 1 needs more love, but MOTHER 1 was a difficult video game and didn't have many glitches compared to the sequel, but I would love to see both as a remake and call them MOTHER 1 and 2 instead of "EarthBound" and so they could bring MOTHER 3 around the world
@BibleGirl6415 I disagree with the notion that Mother 2s bosses are completely easy.
- Frank, the Onett Police, and the Titanic Ant are known for being very difficult fights due to you not being that strong in the early game.
- The Mondo Mole hits rather hard, so Paula will probably end up dying during the fight. (If you decide not to use the paralysis exploit)
- The way up to the Trillionage Sprout can SUCK if you keep getting Mushroomized, and the fight with the Sprout can be brutal if he gets his Diamond stare off.
- the department store is a huge difficulty spike because of how hard the enemies hit you, and the Mook can be rough as well.
- the Clumsy Robot hits VERY hard some of the time.
- The sewers underneath Fourside have pretty tough enemies as well as the boss hitting rather hard at times due to its high crit rate.
- the Kraken can seriously mess you up due it's fire and tornado attacks dealing very high damage, as well as the Thunder attacks.
- The Starman DX can be annoying.
- The Diamond Dog needs no introduction I'm sure
- Magicant and Ness's Nightmare is still very hard, even with the earth pendant.
@@n1ktend091 Well, I found MOTHER 2 a less difficult game than the third, because MOTHER 3 I died many times in each boss, sometimes MOTHER 2 has bosses that have their difficulty, and yes, you may be right, especially those freaking mushrooms, I died a few times in that, even so I don't agree very much with Frank's and the Kraken's has been very easy for me, but above all MOTHER 2 has more glitches than 1 and 3, which is something that is true, but in my opinion both MOTHER 1 and 2 needs Remakes
I think they should remake all three and release it as a bundle.
You make a really good point regarding the controls of a remake when trying to translate a 2D game to 3D. I wouldn't be able to calculate just how much time I have already spent fine-tuning the movement and control/animation response in Earthbound Dimensions so that it can feel reasonably not stiff. It sounds simple when you think it's just movement through the world, but it really isn't... a lot of careful thought and polishment work is needed when tackling something like this.
Mother 1 would benefit the most from a remake, I've beaten Earthboubd and Mother 3 multiple times and I still cant beat Mother 1
Try the GBA translation and equip the easy ring. Makes the game very accessible.
Same here buddy.
Yes please!
@@ButterflyBlossom6415 I recommend Boot Hill Heroes and Eastward as Earthbound successors.
How far have you gotten? The game is much easier if you use all of your tools and do some sections in a specific order.
The reason why they atill had 8 direction in link's awakening remake is because some positions in between those directions can ruin some puzzles and dungeons, and make fast skips through the dungeons. However, you can be in those in between direction when you jump and land so long as you don't move again on the ground. So those skips are still possible. I've used them a few times.
And another reason to remake games is to keep the series alive. It's the smallest reason to make a game from a business perspective, but a big one for fans. They want to keep the love for the game alive, and pull in new people.
Was trying to look at why to do a remake from an artistic perspective with this video.
Yeah honestly what you said about Earthbound Beginnings being the most likely to be remade makes a lot of sense. In fact honestly Earthbound might be the least likely of the series to be remade, since if they were to actually localize Mother 3 (gasp!) part of me feels like they would remake it for that (then again they did localize Beginnings when it was like 25 years old)
I'd love a hyper realistic remake in like Unreal Engine to really make us feel the terror and experience the story to the max but don't change much else, maybe refresh the sounds and music but essentially keep them the same.
the clay renders are so iconic, and very uniquely tied to the mother series. not to be that kid, but that should definitely be the remake's art style especially since nintendo doesn't seem too keen on pixel remakes of, well, anything.
Your so underrated dude I hope you get more subscribers in the future also is it me or are you just becoming a reviewer your one of the smartest mother fans
WHY THE HELL AM I GETTING SO MANY EARTHBOUND VIDEOS AFTER OPENING THE GAME ONCE😭
very excited to see if there are any romhack developers that are open to taking your ideas and bringing us a new earthbound experience
There are fan teams remaking both Mother and Earthbound, as Mother Encore and Mother Squared
At two men and a truck, we treat your items like we treat our own grandmas!
Just finished this game. My new obsession. Loved it. I would play a new one but not necessary. It’s perfect
I think the Link‘s Awakening artstyle would be perfect. And Mother 1 would make more sense as a remake I guess
Mother Squared feels like it’s pretty much covering all the bases of what I’d want for a remake ngl.
I would love to see the game remade in a Link's awakening style remake, keeping its 2d like feel. However I would like to see the protagonists in the battle field, some new trippy 3d backgrounds and a selfie option in the overworld where the camera man can give you a camera towards the beginning where you can take pictures on your journey like most nintendo games nowadays. All the changes in this video are cool too.
9:14 They can even give it a flashier name than New Game Plus
Perhaps Porky/Gygas' revenge?
creator of the visual 3d remake here, I wanted to make an earthbound but with the little annoying quirks cut out and modernized. Someday I will continue that journey ;)
Thanks for commenting! Can't wait to see it when you can get back to it :)
8:11 Perhaps a playable version of how she ended up there...
2:35 I agree! Not sure why that's a thing in older games. I recall sitting on Paper Mario 64's end screen for ages expecting it to reboot or something. It also sucked because at the time I kind of fluked the final boss and couldn't re-beat him and hence missed out on some post-final boss dialog.
Similar issue where saving soft-locks in EB. Never got why they did that.
I'm gonna bat to changing Earthbound's style.
I feel like, If we're doing a remake, One remake all 3 in one big bundle called the Earthbound Trilogy.
Earthbound Beginnings, Earthbound Boogaloo, and Earthbound Beyond (mother 3) in one package. But the direction I want to see the art direction taken in is that of Rankin Bass Christmas Specials.
I say that because a lot of the promotional material surrounding mother has always been around claymation models of the characters reminiscent of Animagic. It's very possible that Iwata grew up with that studio's work considering that all of the rankin bass christmas specials were animated in japan by a japanese studio.
This, to me at least would be the best way to translate from pixels to 3D models, Keep the mother series' destinct style by catering to the style of the claymation like marketing and also preserve and express the themes of innocence and growing up that the entire series is all about.
Mother 1 needs it the most
I used to do EarthBound in the mid 1990's as a video gamer. If they remake EarthBound, I would like to do it again, this time as an actor. I can play Prince Poo, the fourth main character in the game who helps Ness defeat the remaining monsters to finish recording that song on his sound stone. What would you think about that role?
They also could go a direction in the way of the SaGa remasters, where they leave the game mostly unchanged but add a few changes that would make it more definitive, like changing up the localization, or adding some unused content that was in development but was cut. (Although admittedly, Earthbound wasn't nearly as unfinished as say, the original SaGa Frontier, but it's a thought)
I feel like what Itoh was going with is that even in a fantastically insane world like Earthbound you still need to factor in carrying space. One backpack for each Party member thats why youre able to spread out 14 slots among all the members of your party. Also, considering level creep if you're an experienced player some items are basically worthless. You dont need them in your backpack. I'd argue the best item to farm would pretty much be the PSi Caramels.
I honestly think that an EarthBound remake in the style of the Link's Awakening one it would be successful. Personally I wish it would have a more clay animation-like look.
Monkeyness I just want to say I absolutely adore your voice.
Thank you :)
I was today years old when I learned Frank can heal you. Mind blown.
I want chicken I want liver meo mix meo mix please deliver
Yes, in the style of Brilliant Diamond but actually finished. I love the 3D Chibi look of it. Earthbound was a similar style to the first few generations of Pokemon, so it would be a good fit, in my opinion.
I think the item solution is to go the Dragon Quest route and have a "bag" that items can be dumped into, while the characters themselves still have an item limit on what they can carry, with the bag being inaccessible during battle.
how i would do the ultimate weapons is to have a beefed up enemy hold them that never changes places but is out of the way so you dont accidently fight them, this way you dont have to grind for it unless you are too low a level but you still have to work for it.
Anyone who plays on bilinear filtering deserves their rights of using technological devices to be taken away. Like sorry but all bilinear filtering does is juggle up the colors until they look like putrid. ALSO even if the pixel look is not the intended target, the bilinear filtering was also not the intended target. There are definitely much better options, maybe CRT filters.
Never improve upon perfection.

"Unless you're playing MGS"
Well I was gonna say Xenosaga, but same vibe.
as someone whos played since 95'
1. Enemies should have counterplay to surprising them giving you opportunities to surprise them
2. Day/Night cycle for added imersion, events and enemy spawns
3. Jeffs support Items buffed and stored like Dusters tools, bottle rocket rebalancing
4. Changes to encounter system/formation. being able to go back2back,triangle formation on the overworld.
-PINCER attacks should be a thing for you and the enemy
5. ability to run
6. Tone down Enemy opening attack redswirl + sound like they did in mother 3- to me it was my first jumpscare
7. change dusty dunes as is I never find a reason to venture into the desert, i think the road should curve up and then down . the early part of scarba is kinda short, i would have moved the monkey hole further into the desert.
8. i would just clean up sprites or do a nice simple 3d to have it match the clay models.
9. Poo, mainly the fact that you get him so late and he is missing through late scarba and 90% of deep darkness
10. removal of the 1/128 drop items and instead they should be end game side quests.
earthbound should be remade like the mario rpg remake
like that game also never saw a release outside the states and japan before and the artstyle would be very fitting
I know this is a video about what to fix in a remake but a connection I made was the fact I’m making an Earthbound inspired rpg and what I’ve been doing is fixing whatever was bad, so I guess these are some good ideas on what to fix.

I do wonder what direction Itoi would take a remake if he was given the choice. There are a lot of things that were cut in development so it's possible he would want to do a FF7R kind of thing
do not let omori fans learn about earthbound
as long as they put love into the remake, i hope they make one
I don’t know why but I want earthbound in mother 1 nes style
Demakes are cool
@@videorelaxant2780 I recommend Boot Hill Heroes and Bounties. They are Earthbound inspired.
Earthbound would just be such a visceral experience with graphical enhancements, atmospheric textures, and updated pieces of music it’s such a cool game and I think bringing that to a new generation in a more digestible way would be dope keep the mechanics fairly true to the original the story telling and all that as well but just making it look and sound better with more detail due to modern advancements cut scenes and shit
That would be so cool that if you beat the game but you don’t want the quirkiness to end then you do what you well said with the change of the chosen four of the ones in mother 1 and also new enemies for the hard mode
I won't accept anything unless Itoi gives it his blessing
I think what we need from every Mother game is
1 : Remake
2 : Remaster
3 : Translated version and launch for Switch
I Want Them To Remake Earthbound So Bad In The Style They Remade Super Mario RPG! 🙏
Another MonkeyNess banger. A couple of things to comment on since you went through a lot here:
- I feel vindicated knowing someone else holds the same position on the tendency of critically/popularly acclaimed games being remade over games that could actually benefit from it. Watching everyone drool over RE4R this year is something I met with mostly confusion since it's not the original trilogy that 'needed' the modernization.
- the clay model/papier-mâché aesthetic is definitely my preference if such a remake of any of the MOTHER titles were to happen, it's so very iconic to the series that I can't imagine any other creative decision working nearly as well. I recall some yarn aesthetic for a supposed remake of Earthbound on Gamecube but I don't remember if that was a hoax or not.
- if Paula did ever have a solo part I feel like it would make the most sense to have it after she gets kidnapped by the Mook in the Fourside mall; there's some implied development of Mr. Monotoli's character where he earns her trust that I don't think has ever been explored in the supplementary material (admittedly I am not as familiar with the manga/4komas and I still need to read the novel since Nyasu translated it).
- shoutout to using the Enix guidebook artwork for the Venus kissing joke, that seriously needs more attention and appreciation (maybe worth a video overview like with the Earthbound's Players Guide?). Although it's kinda weird thinking about that Venus canonically posed in the nude for a magazine in that context.
Honestly, I'm not really for a remake since a port would do as much justice for the game without possibly compromising its original vision. But I'm not against the same for the original MOTHER, probably why I'm so excited for MOTHER: Encore.
YOOOO GUESS WHAT! There's a remake of Mother 1 called Mother ENCORE. I think it's still in development and released the demo. All though you're kinda right, plus, I mistook that possibly Mother 2 remake (?) with Encore...
I’m well aware of it, the demo was fantastic. This video’s just about official remakes though.
@@MonkeyNess YOOOO I DIDN'T THINK YOU WOULD REPLY! but yeah, I too wish for another Earthbound remake, and maybe the graphics could be like, Link's Awakening on the switch.
If it helps finally get mother 3 a proper state side release I say go for it.
i wanna see a whole series remaster tbh in the 2d hd style that the octopath traveler games got. that would be nice
Something huge you overlook is how a remake gets made. Bad games aren't remade because if you make them good, then it isn't the same. Good games get remakes to fix up the bad but also to go beyond and make good better. When a game is remade, the original shouldn't be a shame, and in fact, the remake should doubles down on the original's ideas. That's makes a remake.
Also instead of a pixel smoothing, give us a good crt effect. Pixel smoothing and a crt don't look alike, I would know I own a crt.
Yeah, I actually acknowledge that point about remaking bad games in the video...I disagree that remaking a game is about "making it the same," they should be about improving on the original, and attempting to deliver the experience the original did or attempted to. If you're going to remake it exactly the same, why even remake it?
Officially I don't know how I'd feel
Fanmade though sign me up mother squared can't come out soon enough
If they do a remake I feel a HD 2D graphic style would be nice imo
Jesus halfway through this video and you've changed the whole game. You don't want an Earthbound remake, you want a new game.
I'd be happy with any Mother content. If they don't want to release Mother 3, I don't see them releasing an Earthbound remake. But I sure hope so
You make very valid points
A remake is needed to an extent. I need to agree that the graphics should stay the same with minor changes (yes I know this video was 1 year ago because I watched it when it came out)
Why do you think it's needed? Genuinley curious.
@@MonkeyNess Super Mario RPG got a remake and after that remake released more people knew what Mario RPG was, so I think an EarthBound remake would help EarthBound be more known by people who genuinely don't know what it is, but I think Mother1 would be the one I want to see remade the most.
I like where youre headed with this video
But… what about a dash button
Sure!
I feel as if Earthbound has already told its story, and it's pretty widely available and beloved despite any inconveniences, so an official remake doesn't exactly seem likely to me. Fan remakes are great though and are definetly something we should have, even if just for quality of life.
Mother 3 could use a remake, but the game is already stunning. I think it deserves one because the game is beautiful and more people need to see it, which could also be accomplished by translating the game officially.
(But Nintendo ain't gonna let that happen anytime soon..)
If anything, Mother 1 is the game most needing of a remake. That game is filled with flaws and confusion to the point of turning players off to the game, and it's story deserves to be told. I don't think it's likely beyond fan projects, though.
I fully disagree. I've already said my opinion in other comments but there is such a sharp awful transition from seeing Ness in Smash Bros (being captivated by his simple cute 3D character design), and then discovering his game and its like.
"what?"
The games have aged badly (purely artistic decisions, not related to technology) and there is a reason why they are niche and not celebrated by pop culture, let alone kids
You say EB2 has already told uts story very well. And sure, it has.
This story isn't the only one Ness needs to be attached to.
Speaking personally, I would have loved to have seen a Ness-only 3D platformer on Gamecube, maybe with Lucas as a player 2.
Onett is %100000 more charming and cute in Smash then it ever was in the original SNES release. I think a 3D adventure could reinvigorate how mysterious and charmingly odd that location was
Anyway sorry, i just get frsutrated when people don't see obvious holes in the videogame market. These games were always an unmarketable mess to American audiences and it doesn't have to stay that way
The Mother rpgs are for adult players. It tells a nuanced story kids would tolerate at best, but not outright adore. They are very VERY poor introduction to Ness as a potential mascot for Nintendo (which he absolutley should be)
@@Fidion I recommend Eastward, Boot Hill Heroes and Bounties. They are Earthbound inspired.

Modern pixel smoothing is not the same as crt smoothing. Since crts don't even display pixels in the first place, there's a natural bleed between colors. Monitors DO display pixels, so to make pixel smoothing look like crts theyd have to display the game in like 4x resolution with antialiasing and chromatic aberration...which they don't.
i mean theres already like 3 eb fan remakes rn lmao
This video’s not about fan-remakes.
I find myself struggling to enjoy the game on the SNES Emulator bc it's just so outdated. I have always wanted to love EarthBound btw and I feel like I could.
I just need, and crave an official remaster for it. Like imagine the game with a graphical overhaul (WITH OLD GRAPHICS ENABLE-ABLE IN THE SETTINGS) like on this UA-cam video's thumbnail. It would be so cool!
Imagine having these too, QoL changes that would definitely be in a remaster and make the game a lot more bearable and fun:
- A better inventory system
- A multi-seater bicycle
- Buying / Selling multiple items at once.
- Less annoying pop-ups (Dad calling you/telling you to take a break)
- Letting you consume present items on the spot. Ie, inventory full, eat the Hamburg from the present instead of just leaving it there.
Honestly? This isn't a want for me, it's a need. It's super unlikely but I hope we get a remaster some day.
As far as the the "ultimate weapons" are concerned, I would as least place the Sword of Kings in a gift box in the stonehedge maze or have it drop from the boss. I mean, it's Poo's only weapon, and grinding for it brings the game to a standstill. All the others could stay the same for all I care.
Earthbound is a masterpiece, and it's aged pretty well (minus a handful of things you've indeed mentioned). I've completed it earlier this year, and it's now my second favorite game of all time (behind Metal Gear Solid).
If Earthbound were to be remade, I want the gameplay mechanics to be same (with some changes for a modern audience), but I would like the graphics to be in a chibi style similar to Zelda Link's Awakening or Echoes of Wisdom.
I whould say that having a new verision of earthbound beginnings AND other mother 2 changes whould be very cool! But let's be honest, we all just want something new.
Everything you said about earthbound is everything I want in it
A remake would be cool but I personally don't think we need it (even for Earthbound Beginnings). Personally I think remakes that even just remake the game with better visuals are good, but in my opinion I think remakes are best for games that never got a big release/ are lost to time, an example I can think of is a Panzer Dragoon Saga remake, the games original code and assets are sadly lost, and simply porting the game to pc and consoles would be very difficult, as you would have to create an emulator of a console with complicated hardware simply just for that game, so the best bet we would have of that game being brought back is through a remake, they already remade the first game and are working on remaking the second, so it is possible. This kind of remake would also give a chance for games that never got localized a chance to be released worldwide, if a Mother 3 remake got announced then there would be a pretty high chance of it getting released worldwide. Sorry for the long comment, great video and I hope you have a good day.
That's a cute Paula sprite in the thumbnail, very waifu-ified.
If the remakes were mainly focused on accessibility, quality of life, fixing a few problems like the ones mentioned, and if the process of making Mother 3...umm..copyright friendly I guess? Could make it come to the west in a collection with the other two, which let's face it, aren't exactly easy to get on modern consoles anyway, would make it worth it.
Though I completely agree with the sentiment of remakes being for games which have more flaws than perfections.. the games whose potential remains evident but was really hindered by things a remake could fix, giving the game a wider audience and allowing creators' projects another chance to be seen.
I think that the limited inventory is probably the biggest complaint I've seen about EarthBound so I believe that would be pretty fair to change up. Something simple like each character getting 16 instead of 14 spots, or maybe Ness specifically having extra, like 20, would really help with the early game especially.
I could support that, even makes sense since he has a backpack!
@@MonkeyNess that was exactly the justification I thought of too lol
@@carverdream0 I recommend Eastward, Boot Hill Heroes and Bounties. They are Earthbound inspired.
If you like games on Steam there is Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass and Weirdlands, which also have a Earthbound/Mother 3 feel.
If I could change something about earthbound? It would be Jeff. Multi-bottle rocket is to OP. Give him a menu for his tools to free up item space. Give him new tools. Give his tools a cool down, so that there not so spamable.
By the way, what's the footage at 10:58 from? That's actually the kind of artstyle I prefer seeing from enhanced remakes of pixel-art games; a higher resolution, crisper pixel art version of the game where everything's been upscaled and more defined, but with the same overall style as the original sprites. This respects the overall original style, while still making use of the extra real-estate given by our now higher resolution screens and such. And gets closer to what the original pixel art was accomplishing on CRT, since we weren't meant to be seeing each individual pixel so boldly.
The upcoming fangame Mother Squared!
Look, if they remake any of the Mother games officially, I'll be excited that the series is being given attention again and I'll give it a shot.
.....but since i know that isnt happening, I NEED one of these fangames to be done for a new Mother fix lol. I swear, i know of i think 5 different fan projects and NONE are ready yet. Its driving me nuts, i wanna play em!
Instead of a pixel-smoothing optiom to simulate CRT screens, you could hav: A CRT filter.
Having dynamic photos in a game wouldn't be so far fetched as it's been done for years, we are not limited by the SNES anymore.
As for the style, I would really like they don't go for the 3D style nintendo uses for all their games nowadays, like the current Mario games and Animal Crossing (Or SSB). Though if the original style was kept I could feel it going in the direction of Mario Maker by just adding shadows lol.
Though you could have a 3D game feel exactly like a 2D game, if it played like a 2D game, animations and such aside.
Yes to all 3 games, maybe add cut scenes and "bad end" animations say you fail to save Paula from the Happy Happiest cult, the cut scene shows a corrupted Paula in a blue nuns garb preparing world domination
Honestly, all I'd really want is for the mechanics to be more like Mother 3. Especially the inventory.
Nah it’d be funnier if Venus slapped Ness - like she did smack you after all
The the only way I can justify a remake of Earthbound or 3 is if they decided to do it to all the Mother Games and release it as a remastered collection.
overall i feel like the game holds up, but it would be nice to have a version that overhauls the inventory system so key items dont take up space, and to fix a few sprites. the sharks overworld sprites, for instance look pretty.... unfortunate
before we can get a remake, i think we can all agree that we need an official release of mother 3
noice! id love an earthbound remake!
How would the game be reviewed with all the grinding? Or if the grinding is minimized, how much of the game would be left?
The vast majority. It's not a super grindy game at any point, really.
i want a kingdom hearts style earthbound NOW
i would say, instead of 14 items it eb 20 items, just so it be new player friendly. tho there be classic mode to have 14 slots again
the animation and art style has a lot of charm and it's a hard sell for me to change it. however, if they made it Claymation like the strategy game but kept the exact same over the top isometric view that is faithful to the og it could be pretty cool. maybe add the rhythm combos from mother 3
On inventory space here is my hot take... Equipment and key items have separated slots, but otherwise you're right leave it alone. Also the 1/128 items suck I agree.
I know this is very unlikely for nintendo to do, but I see the ideal remake of earthbound for the nintendo switch should be a trilogy of the mother series with mother 1 having a 3D clay artstyle, mother 2 having a hand drawn/painted artstyle, and mother 3 having a sorta arts and crafts style, along with all the games having quality of life improvements and changes.
