      Hi Darren. I agree. The current superbikes with all the wings, just don’t look as stylish to me. And the GP bikes just look like a complete mess compared with the old GP bikes of the 90s. Given the choice of any classic Superbike, which one would you have? Thanks for watching my video and for leaving me a comment 👍

    You hit the nail on the head when you mentioned these being the Pin Up bikes of our youth… I’m currently restoring a 1997 Fireblade! Total midlife crises I don’t mind admitting.

      Hi Bucksbiker. The 900 blades were the so well made in comparison to all the later Hondas. My mate had wine that was still running well at 45000 miles and it hadn’t even had its valves clearances checked since it was new. Thanks for watching my video, I’m really glad you liked it and I really appreciate you leaving me a comment 👍

    I wasn‘t even born when these bikes were out but I love them more than any newer bike. I‘ve ridden a few newer bikes, MT-07, SMCR 690, CBR500R but none of them were as fun and engaging as my 1995 ZXR 400.
    Sure, I need to rebuild my front brake calipers, I gotta clean the tank since it‘s starting to rust, I gotta rebuild the fuel petcock since it‘s leaking and I gotta rebuild the engine since it‘s got 40k km and slurps oil like fuel but man is it fun to ride this bike.
    None of the bikes I‘ve ridden till now had the same effect on me as this one. As soon as I got on one and test rode it, I knew that I wanted it. All of these bikes were fun, let‘s be real, all bikes are stupid fun, but none of them were as fun as that small, 400cc 4cyl that revs to 14k RPM and starts to haul your ass only when you‘re above 10k RPM.
    And now that I do, I don‘t regret it and I‘d recommend to anybody getting into bikes to get a smaller, older, less powerful 4 cylinder from the 90‘s and even late 80‘s.
    Simple, reliable (if you know what to look for), teach you how to ride properly and are just an awful lot of fun.

      Hi twisted35. There is so much love for the older sports bikes, but then the 400s have an even stronger core of followers. I loved how they were full performance 400s, whereas now they have steel chassis and are more of a commuter than a sports bike. Thank you for watching and thanks for leaving me a comment 👍

      Absolutely agreed coming from a 53 year old who’s had 17 bikes from the 70’s to the 90’s. It’s lovely to hear you as a younger person acknowledging that the old bikes were better
      New bikes may have better brakes and bigger tyres now but they have no soul. No feedback for the rider with too many aids on board and more to go wrong.
      I had the zzr400 and zzr600 d2 and Zzr 1100 all amazing bikes and bulletproof engines. No lie my Zzr 1100 kept up with my mates Zzr 1400 up to 130 then he started to leave me. So what the speed limit is only 70 lol
      The Zxr is a great bike too especially the zx9 r which was nearly as quick as my 1100

    I feel very fortunate that I stored in a garage my 1st bike that I bought after passing my test, it was 1994 and my Fireblade owning friend advised against getting such a powerful machine straight away so I bought a two year old baby blade - a NC29 CBR400RR, I used this for several years and when we had children put it aside in favour of a car. 20 years later one of my boys bought his first bike mainly for commuting to work which rekindled a little interest in two wheels, so last summer I spent most of June refurbishing the CBR400RR and ended up with a bike I am so pleased to own and ride. Like you said you can rock up at a bike meet and have something everybody wants cos it's so analogue without all the electronic gizzmo's. I'd say it's even better than before on account of modern sticky tyres, so if this is your sort of thing don't skimp on the tyres and you will have a machine that looks after you.

    I love the 90's and 80's sport bikes, those dual round headlamps, I remember collecting magazines and posters about them. Reading articles on Cycle World Magazine, how they test them, on track and on the road. The only problem you will encounter for them are the spare parts. (Assuming you had the money to spent on it.)

    • @mymoto-uk
      @mymoto-uk  10 місяців тому +1

      Hi strikefreedom. I remember the days of reading Performance Bikes magazine and cutting our pictures of these bikes and sticking them in the back of my school planner 😄. It's a shame that Performance bikes magazine is now a thing of the past as well as a lot of the other magazines of that time. Nowadays, Classic Motorcycle Mechanics and Classic Sportsbike Magazine seem to be the popular titles, which could show a shift in interest but also that the younger generations that are into newer bikes just aren't interested in reading a magazine any more. So far I've not had a problem finding parts and the price of them has been comparable to a newer bike, that could be model dependent though. I'm sure that getting parts for something like a Honda RC30 would be more difficult? With the Kawasaki, none runner scrappy one's can always be picked up really cheap and used as a donor bike. I hope you like our video, thanks for watching and leaving me a comment 👍

Family-life didn't allow me to purchase any. Now that I'm an empty-nester, i went out and got an MV Agusta 750 from 2000. It had only 2900 miles on the clock and looked like new. Hi thatwolffe. The RC30 stands along side the 0W01 as one of the most iconic and desirable classic Superbikes that exist. Manual Chokes and the feel of riding a carbed bike are both unfortunately going the same way as 2 strokes and becoming an experienced that only the fortunate will have had. These bikes are so special to ride and the chance to get hold of a good one is becoming more and more difficult. But like you said, at least maintaining them is easy, once these bikes modern Superbikes with all their electronic wizardry get old and need parts, they’ll be near impossible to keep running. Hi Madbadger. The early zx10r was a popular race bike and track bike which could be why parts are hard to find. When the bikes become eligible for classic Superbike racing, some of the parts become available again. Great video, my last bike back in the early 90’s was a Gixer 750 L in the white & blue finish, it was the first year with the upside down front forks, had a D&D race pipe on it, loved that sound, in comparison some 35 years later back on bike with a street triple 765 R the tech on bikes now really surprised me just how things like traction control isn’t intrusive on my level of riding. The quick shifter does make me smile, just how quick and smooth it is up and down the box it’s very clever, I’m pretty sure weight wise it’s around 25kg lighter very agile, one thing it really needs is a new pipe (one day hopefully)

    I let teenage nostalgia get the better of me 11 years ago and bought a gen1 Aprilia Mille R. I love that bike. Theres a few things that need kept on top of but nothing too intensive and a few quirky things that feel wrong like fork bottoms that are barely torqued beyond finger tight or the world's least trustworthy sidestand but they're so simple to tune, have plenty of power for road duty and are a joy to ride. Wouldn't swap it for the latest and greatest of any of the modern superbikes.

      Hi Stoic. The original Aprilia Mille's are very misleading to look at, they appear to be big and bulky but then I sat on one and found it's really light, short, thin and nimble. @@mymoto-uk Agreed. It looks like a GP bike of the time but a little fat. I've ridden many sportsbikes over the years but never have I ridden another that tracks through a corner with such stability. Aprilia know how to engineer a frame! I think their lack of wsbk success at the time was due to lack of investment. The turn of the century was financially turbulent for Aprilia before the Piaggio buyout. Made for some interesting oddities, though. My bike was on the production line after the Colin Edwards edition bikes and they seemed to just be using what was left on the shelves before moving to gen2 production. As a result, it's a sort of parts bin special consisting of all the Edwards upgrade parts other than stickers and exhaust.

    I currently run a GSXR 1000 K2, and it is just fantastic.I did make some modifications such as a Brembo front brake master cylinder and front disc rotors,venhill braided brake lines front and rear,a Yoshimura full tri-oval exhaust system,k and n filter and it really does benefit from the NGK iridium R plugs.I also replaced the lead acid battery with a Shido lithium ion one,I also fitted alloy rear sets.
    The bike is an absolute joy to ride being nimble,light,with confidence inspiring handling thanks in part to the Michelin pilot power tyres.Currently, the odometer is showing only 13,210 miles.I can't see myself replacing it as it does everything so well,compared to the latest iterations of the GSXR,I personally think that the K2 is noticeably lighter,handles better and has none of the electronic rider "aids" of the current generation and to me the K2 is all the better for it.

      Hi Darkknight. You are one of the many people on here who have said that they prefer their bike because it has no rider aids, maybe it’s all the technology and cost that has killed of some of the superbike market since its boom days in the 90s and early 2000s? I think you’ve got an incredible bike there with your K2, I remember the magazines raving about its 3rd gear power wheelies when it was launched. • @darkknight1340
      @darkknight1340 10 місяців тому +1

      @mymoto-uk I think that the main problem with the electronic rider aids is that a lot of riders are of the opinion that they can ride faster than their skill level warrants, and the ABS,Traction control etc will get them out of trouble.

    Still absolutely in love with my '99 SRAD 750, even after three years of ownership. The 90s styling, the jerky throttle response because of the very rudimentary injection system, the responses from other bikers. I still have a zxr750L2 and it's such a character full bike. I love riding it with it's ass in the air head down posture. It looks amazing still, but it desperately needs and engine overhaul. But my "runner" is my 99 gsxr750. I still do some caning long journeys on it cross continent with soft luggage and it's ok, and it still scratches nicely. It's begging for some upgraded suspension and refurbishment but for how old it is it has been pretty dependable all in all. The last years caned it a bit as it got left outside unused during COVID.. crying shame but it's still alive.. just need the time and a workshop to fettle it back up. newer bikes might be better on stats but the reward from riding something more analogue is supreme. New bikes just seem a bit lacking in soul. As a road rider a 90s bike is still faster than most people can handle when wound up.

I've done quite a bit of work to it to get it to it's current condition but I've still got some items on my 'list' that need addressing, all in good time. I bought it three years ago, spent 7 months restoring it and put about 5k miles on it since. It was my 'poster bike' back in the day and it sits proudly next to the 2022 R1. I gotta say, the plan was to have it as a garage queen but the keys to it just end up in my hand waaaaaaay more often than I thought they would and I'm off for a spin on it. It does get a fair amount of attention from bikers and Joe public. When I've parked it up I ALWAYS have to turn around and take a second look as I'm walking away, can't believe I finally have one and it only took me 30 years to get there, it's just that kinda bike. Yes, some days it has it's foibles and others it just purrs like a kitten, I wouldn't have it any other way. Next on the radar is a decent SRAD, never should have sold my '00. Liked and subbed 👍

    New to yr channel. Think you hit every nail on the head. I might be a gen before you even. On my wall was a VF750f, guess what, cheap as chips 3 years ago. 40yr old classic, superbike? Don’t know about that but was a world leader in it’s day. Shame about those chocolate cams! All good now and I love it. Other bike is a 20yr old VFR800 (it’s all about the V4 with me). BOTH cost less than £800ea to buy. Admittedly the VF need a grand of resto work but now runs and rides great. The VFR, well it’s a VFR enough said. I do all my own spanner work which does make it affordable to keep these old bikes running. Oh yeah subbed to the channel.

    I passed my test in 2019 and bought a 2002 Gsx-r K2 600, and I absolutely love it, I also own a 1987 slabside 1100 that's been streetfightered by the previous owner who built it, tuned it, and scared himself with it so put it in the shed and left it there for 10 years until I bought it off of him for £600, and after a day or 2 of some tinkering it started up. Can't wait to ride it 😊

      Hi Dan. The K2 is nice but to have a 1100 slabside street fighter is awesome!! I remember the days before cheap none OEM fairings were available, where the only affordable option after dropping your bike was to street fighter it. It's a shame that streetfighters are less popular these days, they were another icon 90's bike. Having said that, if you took the fairings off a modern superbike, it wouldn't look half as good underneath as they used to. Thanks for watching our video and for leaving us a comment. I've had 30+ bikes. Mainly 90s sportsbikes, always Japanese. CBR600's, ZX6, ZX7R, ZX9R, SP1, SP2, 6 Blades etc. Still much prefer them to modern stuff.
    My learnings?
    1. Buy bikes that have had regular use. I'd rather have a 30-40K mile bike with a recent MOT history of use, than one with a few Ks on it sat in a shed for years rotting out its tank, and gumming up its carbs.
    2. Make sure you are handy with a spanner for servicing and preventative maintenance. It's part of the fun anyway!
    3.Use it! They run way better with regular use.
    4. Be smart about your fuel. Use superunleaded when you can, if not - use an ethanol shield type additive. Keeps the ethanol from separating out of your tank and sitting at the bottom.
    5. Look for one with evidence of regular servicing. Doesn't have to be from a dealer. I'm actually far happier buying from a fellow anorak who makes sure that all the jobs are done, and keeps records/receipts - chassis bearing greasing, coolant and brake fluid changes etc. Rather than just the odd oil and filter...
    I've had so many old bikes, averaging 10K a year in total for 20 odd years. In that time, 1 breakdown - an expired battery at a petrol station. So they can be mega reliable if looked after.
    Safe riding all.

      @mymoto-uk  10 місяців тому +1

      HI Platt. That is some great advice and hopefully it'll help anyone on here who is thinking of buying a classic bike. What is your opinion on shutting the fuel tap and running the carbs dry if you're going to leave the bike stood for any long periods (eg Months)? Thanks for watching our video and for leaving us this fantastic comment 👍

    • @PlattLaneEnd
      @PlattLaneEnd 10 місяців тому +1

      @@mymoto-uk Hi. If you've fresh superunleaded in the tank, combined with an Ethanol shield type fuel stabiliser, you can get away without draining the carbs/running them dry.
      But, as a belt and braces approach, for (say) winter storage, it is best to get the fuel out of the carbs.
      So, fuel tap off and run the bike dry, or (preferably), lift the tank and just drain the float bowl on each carb. Each carb has a float bowl drain screw and an outlet to attach a rubber pipe to. Easy enough job. Little bit of effort at the end of the season makes Spring far more enjoyable!

    • @mymoto-uk
      @mymoto-uk  10 місяців тому +1

      Hi Platt. That's intersting. There always seems to be a split opinion on whether it's best to keep your seals wet or to get the ethanol away from them. I don't drain my carbs but I do run any bikes that are sat up to temperature once a month with some fresh fuel. So far it's kept all the bikes running well.

    • @PlattLaneEnd
      @PlattLaneEnd 10 місяців тому +1

      @@mymoto-uk Hi. The biggest problem is old, ethanol laden fuel sitting in one place undisturbed. That way, it gets chance to separate and reek havoc. If you are running the bike up to temperature monthly, you are at least moving fuel in the system. Personally, if I'm storing a bike for winter, I'll prep it and leave it the full 3 months. You're ok running it fully up to temp once a month though. Definitely wouldn't do it weekly like some do!
      As for seals, yes long term storage can cause issues, especially 2 strokes, plus you can get clutch plates sticking etc. Part of the logic some use for a monthly start up/heat cycle. For carbs though, in winter storage, the drier the better.
      Sometimes I just nip into the garage, shake the bike to slosh the tank a bit. Wheel it back and forth, pull on clutch & brake levers/pedals etc just to keep everything moving. Probably looks a bit demented, but works for me!

      @mymoto-uk you could say that, haha. I'm sure every biker is the same, we ve had days when you had to get home. Probably didn't have the money to stay somewhere and / or you had work the next day. So you just had to soldier on. Push through the relenting cold. Hands numb. Exhausted from shivering. Amd you wonder to yourself, where's that excess heat that I complain about on hot summer days, coming from the gaps on those ZXR750 fairings. But its funny, even though I think we've all had some pretty horrendous moments on those bikes when we're younger, I'm glad they happened.
      But as life changes and hopefully you can afford to have a second bike, or the bike is not your only form of transport. Then you can just purely ride for the enjoyment. Your video spoke volumes mate. Very much could relate. Thank you

    Over the years I've had many bike since '92 on the road and one thing i will say thinking about the RD350YPVS and the TL1000S in particular that i owned which were nearly new at the time of ownership is that even with care and attention they weren't built to last,built to a price they were great for a couple of years and then it was a conveyer belt of wear and tear issues and worse.The '95 CBR600 on the other hand felt like it would run for ever.Just be careful what you buy.

      Hi Graham, For sure, you've definitely got to do your research before you buy one to make sure you avoid any pitfalls. But if you do get a good one, like your cbr600f, then they are hard to beat. Thanks for watching my video and thanks for leaving me a comment. 👍

    I owned this bike in 1996 and it turned heads then and I’m sure still does now ! Big heavy gorgeous looking beast ! .. I remember I got pulled on the M6 doing maybe 110 ! And they only told me off for having coloured headlight covers and a black visor ! Those were the days 😂👍🏼

      Hi Roger. I remember watching the R1100s' in the boxer cup and I would definitely say they are a sports bike but with the comfort and reliability to go touring on. Plus those exhausts are defiantly a icon 90's thing. Thank you for watching my video, I hope you enjoyed it. And also thanks for leaving me a comment 👍

    I have owed a 1987 gsxr1100h for 22 years! I love the reaction when I'm out and about! I'm getting on a bit now, bad back! So I got a new africa twin for comfortable riding! I don't ride the gixxer, but I don't want to sell her either! I just love the look of her!

      Hi Terry. It's strange how as they get older they start to look dated but then become timeless. There is no bike on the market today that could out shine a nice GSXR1100. Not only that, the GSXR1100 is of legend status amongst those bikers that know it. I don't blame you for keeping it regardless of whether it is ridden. I will be exactly the same with my bikes when I get too old to ride them. Thank you for watching my video and I hope it gave you a chance to riminess over when you did used to ride your Suzuki. Also, thanks for leaving me a comment. 👍

      @mymoto-uk when I was 12(1987) I was walking with a friend. I heard a roar from behind us! I looked round to see a bike(gixxer 1100h) going round the bend, front wheel up!!! Coolest thing I've ever seen! My uncles all had bikes, so I knew what it was! Totally different from the 80s bikes I knew and loved! I bought mine 22, well, 23 years ago now for £1420! I was 25! She is now worth between 6-7grandish! For an old bike, she will do 0-100mph in 4 seconds! It'll pull in top gear from 25mph to 175mph! Looks cool! Click on my purple T to see her!

    LiteTek sells carb kits and fuel tank o-rings that are fluorosilicone & FKM so you can then run ethanol blends without ruining your seals.

    I went about as old as I could get without going into carburetor territory. Learnt a lot from not having ABS or any assist on it. So fun.
    I never want to see a TFT display ever again.

    • @mymoto-uk
      @mymoto-uk  10 місяців тому

      Hi Jeff. There is nothing quite like watching a needle wind its way up and do a small skip as you nail a gear change. There is no TFT that can compare to something like the 916 clocks. It's great to read that your keeping an old bike going and getting so much back from it. Thanks for watching the video and for leaving me a comment 👍

      Know how you feel, I'll live and die by my Triumph TT600...nothing fancy on it other than fuel injection, and even then it was early days fuel injection, took a bit of ironing out...there's just something nice about having a bike that is just that...a bike...no extra tech or extra stuff to go wrong, and just you in control, nothing beats a normal dash too, never been keen on the TFT displays.

    Wonderful video. I love these machines but I was always wondering how much the geometry, the brakes, the frame, so how the bike handles is different from the more modern bikes.

    • @mymoto-uk
      @mymoto-uk  10 місяців тому

      Hi biocognativetech. The biggest difference is the brakes and that is also because of the increased weight over a modern bike. The still handle well but you just need be be more calculated because if you get it wrong they are a lot less forgiving. The other thing you’ll notice is that you sit into them and they ride lower, whereas the more modern superbikes feel like you’re sitting on top of them. Thanks for watching my video and thanks for leaving me a comment 👍

    well.... 6 years here with an 21 year old bike, CBR954RR with little over 68k miles.
    I had a MASSIVE luck with mine, zero engine problems.
    On the other hand, suspension never had an general review and rear shock needed one new too but the engine, what a find...
    what i love at the moment, the looks of the bike, a lot of new riders don't understand that it is a 2000s super bike, dont understand that it has 140cv at the wheel, it's lighter than a LOT of 600s of now and has zero electronics helpers, except the low fuel light xD
    here in Portugal after 30 years we can ask for a "classic vehicle" registry, that's my goal at the moment.

    • @mymoto-uk
      @mymoto-uk  10 місяців тому

      Hi NoobOnWheels. I believe that the 654 was actually lighter and better bhp per ton than the later 998 models. In England they are quite a lot more expensive than the 929 and pretty sort after. It’s crazy to think that the 2004 bikes are now 20 years old and over here that means they are eligible for classic motorcycle insurance. Thanks for watching our video and for leaving me a comment. 👍

    It's funny that like my father, I too found certain bygone eras more appealing than the current one. I'm a late bloomer when I learned how to ride(got my license in my late 20's), but even though the 2 bikes I currently own are from when I started(2010/2011), the other era is definitely the 90's partially due to its impressions that it evoked to me as a kid during that time. I always said that one day, I'll own something from that era, used to be i had my sights on the 2 stroke 250's, but now it could also be the bikes like the 900rr or zx7. Nostalgia, style, analog like experience, character, love it.

      Hi Signalrr. The 250s are absolute dream machines, I used to have a 89 tzr 250 which I really regret selling but sometimes these bikes come and go. I can’t see myself getting rid of my Kawasaki’s though. Thanks for watching my video and thanks for leaving me a comment 👍

      Hi Timmy. I love the 1200 in yellow with the black belly pan. And if I remember rightly it was the first of the Hinckley Daytonas?? I had the T595 and the sound of the triple has stick with me ever since. Strangely, the 675 Daytona’s have a very different triple sound to the older daytons.
