for that you coud just use sony vegas to cut clips and audio and then transfer it to after effects, lots of people do that

Icantthinkofaname the easiest way to do so is simply select the layer (whether audio or a clip) and choose edit on the ribbon on tope bext to file, and theres options like duplicate layer, split layer etc. usually after splitting u would ofc need to delete a layer or so. the simplest way u can dobthat is select the layer and press backspace on ur keyboard
