I bought my first B17 in the late '80s but I ruined it too soon by non/bad/wrong care, I was young and didn't know what I was doing😏but it was comfortwise the best out of the box. I run B17s (always the standard Black with steel rivets since my first) for many years on several bikes on a Single Speed Commuter a Touring Bike and a Surly Pugsley they are the only seats that doesn't give me grief and I still love the classic design that didn't changed since 1866.
I've had a Brooks B135 saddle for twenty five years. It's as rock hard today as it was when I bought it. Definitely not a comfortable saddle. Unfortunately, it shows absolutely no signs of wearing out and will defintiely outlive me.
Brooks doesn't always provide quality saddles. Their Cambium (weatherproof) saddles are garbage. I have two of them. The cloth cover peeled up on both of them. Two of my friends have the same saddle and the exact same problem. I have a very old B17, however, and it hasn't had any issues. I did over 100,000 km on it over the last 8 years.
