      The costuming on the show was so good! Lucy wore many outfits multiple times. Ethel even more because we know Fred is cheap. It's how real people dress. Nowadays shows never do this. There's a pair of shoes Lucy starts wearing during the Comedy Hour seasons that must have come from her own closet because she wore them through multiple shows for years after.

One day a football star whose wife had been following that advice opened the door to his wife attired only in a pair of galoshes, an apron, and a big bonnet on his head!

      A lot of couples refuse to get married because the flame dies out for most. Marriage becomes a job. It shouldn't be that way. I'd never marry unless I fell in love and one of us needed a green card to be together

    • @nopenottelling
      @nopenottelling 2 місяці тому +20

      Sorry, but as a VERY happily married adult (ten years and three kids!), I HAVE to respond to you, shac9131. If if gives you any comfort, having/maintaining “the flame” in marriage has a lot less to do with the strange idea that “if it’s really true love, then a healthy relationship jUsT hApPeNs” than it has to do with CHOICES-CHOOSING to love your partner, CHOOSING be loyal to them, CHOOSING put them first, and then CHOOSING to expect the same from them in return. (And, I know: you can’t control someone else’s choices. That’s the scary part, of literally ALL human relationships.) To get all lecture-y, do you see what Ricky is doing, in this short clip? He is actively CHOOSING to ignore his wife, instead of appreciating her. Those types of BAD choices, from either partner, are what kill the romance. Love isn’t a feeling-it’s a choice. And it’s not “boring,” either; crushes feel super fun and exciting, but I honestly think that a healthy marriage feels WAY better. Instead of getting that infatuation-rush of nervous excitement (insecurity), it becomes this feeling of RELIEF, when your spouse is there, and a general confidence for all the things you’re going to face, because you know that you’re going to do it TOGETHER. Please don’t let the idea of marriage scare you-just make sure to distinguish between the awful (abusive?) marriages and the good ones!

      Yes, but the internet has even more ways now to tell women ‘they are the problem and how to improve themselves’. I think Lucy was highlighting the ridiculous sexism of the times with this comedy sketch!

      I would take it over today’s society any day. This current society is genuinely miserable to live in, we don’t need to project our modern misconceptions onto the show.

    It's crazy the lengths women have gone to in order to try to keep men as if they were some type of prize rather than grunting animals who muddy up their homes, bite the hand that feeds them, and h#mp every leg they can get.

    This is probably the only time I've ever seen Lucy without makeup. Nowadays when they have some TV show and the woman is supposed to be 'natural' and without makeup, it's obvious she's got false eyelashes, lipstick, and foundation. Here Lucy actually seems not to have been wearing ANY makeup.

      Yeah your naive(!) sibling looked at how sexy the woman was and agree to marry her for being just beautiful without having shared common interest and characteristic. Come on it is easy to blame your in law but your brother also signed that marriage paper and he is an adult. Stop denying his part in this he is bot naive just thinks with his dick.
