There are hundreds of good comedy series. Most of which are much less sexist than this one. Not that this isn’t great but it’s a product of it’s time of course.
The Williams family appeared i the Lucy/Desi Comedy Hour before this episode aired. When CBS bought The Danny Thomas Show (after ABC canceled his show) that must be where they up with this idea, which is very clever.
How precious! If you listen closely at around 20:40 you can hear Lucille Ball's mother Dede in the audience doing her "Uh-oh!" as she did for the Lucy series all throughout!

No disputing that the husbands/wives dynamic here is ancient history, but for those of us who’ve enjoyed every Lucy/Desi episode many times, it’s still a treat to find this.
I heard that Lucy argued with director Sheldon Leonard about where she would enter the scene. He held his ground and explained that he had a purpose which was to reveal the scene gradually as she entered. She yielded. After Desi told Sheldon good job, she was testing you.
She did that to Bill Asher as well. And to nearly every director she worked with. She was testing them to see if they were awake and paying attention to the script and her role. She relied totally on the writers to show her character and wanted to make sure the director knew that script and what Ball was doing in that episode. She loved it if the director fired back at her and showed some backbone. Arnaz was there as a sort of inside judge to make sure the director di jour was told about being tested.
Jerry Orbach, the great actor, was a member of that family. My aunt, who never married, after graduating as valedictorian and suma cum laude from Baylor University, in 1956, went to CA for a graduation trip. She went to Orbachs and bought several beautiful dresses, hats and shoes. She grew up on a dairy, in rural Texas. She was a teacher and went to teach school in Germany. She was living in East Berlin when the wall went up a d Americans had to return to America. I used one of those hats, it was a Juliet cap with pearls and sequins, white, as part of my wedding veil in 1980.

In some ways this is almost like watching a "lost episode" or a never seen before episode of I Love Lucy. Or at this time The Lucy and Desi comedy hour.
Yes, I believe that Lucy had mentioned that Danny and cast agreed to guest star on The Luci-Desi Comedy Hour, with the promise that they in turn would be guest stars on The Danny Thomas Show. I had never seen this episode, or any other episode of this series. What a special treat to basically view an episode of "I Love Lucy" that I had never seen before, after all of these years. I am a huge fan of Lucy and her shows and can't tell you what a treat this episode was. Will be sharing with my family, ASAP. I Love Lucy is one of the shows that I was raised on.
@@Digital_David I hope you see more episodes of "The Danny Thomas Show". It was one of the longest-lasting series on American television. It generated tons of series. It's not your fault that you haven't seen this series. Although it was rerun for many, many years, programmers of this classic series haven't kept up programming it, like "I Love Lucy". "The Danny Thomas Show" was Desilu Production's third hit series, after "I Love Lucy" and "Our Miss Brooks". This episode was a sequel to the "Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour" episode, 'The Ricardos Meet the Williamses"
Very interesting. This was filmed in 1959, near the end of Lucy and Desi's marriage. Their characters have a harder edge, and Lucy seems more like her characters in her later series. The sweetness of Lucy Ricardo is but a memory.
Yes, that's what I noticed, too. Nice to see an episode which you usually don't see featuring the Ricardos, but very true that you can see that they have both hardened somewhat, especially Lucy. You will note that they don't have a lot of scenes together. I am sure that by this time, they were barely speaking to each other.
Originally telecast on January 5, 1959. Becuase Danny and his cast appeared on the first episode of "THE WESTINGHOUSE LUCILLE BALL-DESI ARNAZ SHOW" {later repeated as "THE LUCY-DESI COMEDY HOUR"} in December 1958, Lucy & Desi agreed to appear on Danny's show in a follow-up to the "Lucy Makes Room For Danny" episode.
