I always loved this great movie. The cars of today are way overpriced, fragile, overly complicated computer-controlled junk. Those older Mercury's and Lincolns were great cars.
They got new tyres, that haven’t been paid completely. Then the tyres squeel everywhere until they are payed . That’s what we tell someone, whose shoes are squealing. He didn’t payed them 😅.
So many cars here that probably weren't designed to be driven fast (or at least not this fast). But ironically, when you drive a slow car fast, you often get the best results!
You watch the Imperial when it's chasing the crop-dusting plane, does a pretty impressive jump, and a hard landing which springs the hell out of the unibody Imperial and pops the front of the decklid.
No, that can be right you blew up the contiental with there getaway driver after she got shot by sheriff during robbery and escape how cruel can you be guys.
@MintyFreshTurds it was her choice to shoot them if it wasn't for that all points bulletin ( b.t.w if i was getaway driver, no way i pick full size sedan but instead go for jeep or corvette as both have different strengths like say the jeep is better for off road and corvette is faster than any cop cars ) so her fate was sealed anyway thanks for responding and have good day bye now.
@@milfordh.mercado2787 You aren't off the hook with these holes in your logic. So how are the ones who only shot 1 person cruel and the one who shot 2 people not cruel? Are you saying that burning the car was cruel? That doesn't make sense either because you don't even like that car, you would rather pick a very slow Jeep or a fiberglass sports car that would be inoperable after the first hit and only seats 2.
Why ask why? It was the '70s. H.B. Halicki destroyed a 1966 Lincoln convertible in "Gone In 60 Seconds"...and I never forgave him for that. Of course, he had to do some structural degradation beforehand for the tail to collapse like it did, but still...a 'vert!
Not sure about the bank but the driving scenes on dirt road and pavement is the Kingsbury Grade west of Minden in Northern Nevada. If you go up the mountain you’ll end up at Stateline at Tahoe.
Worst getaway car in history. They chose the slowest and most unweildy car they could find. And in a conspicuous color, too. Kinda hilarious. I love that stubby little Dodge Van, though.
It wasn't the slowest, 71 460 had the good heads 485 ft-lbs of torque. You need a big car to use as a battering ram which they did need more than once. As for the color they weren't going to be in that car very long.
@@MintyFreshTurds I see your point. But I guess it comes down to personal preference. A fast car needs to be able to take corners fast, otherwise it's just a fast accelerating car. That land yacht may accelerate quite fast, but it corners slow af. With a fast and agile car you could drive circles around the cops and they would never catch you in their cruisers, especially on a curvy road. I don't think it's a good idea to use an unmodified car as battering ram. You"ll destroy the cooling, if not the entire engine. Apart from the risk to wreck the car completely, injure yourself in the process and end the chase then and there. These old cars were death traps.
I'm alive today because of a metal car, everything in those metal cars was three times the thickness of today's cars the glass the metal and the bumpers don't fall off and you can hit all kind of stuff driving to the house and come out the other side and bumper will still be on. I can't believe the public has finally given in to buy stuff made out of recycled trash. Today's cars have a description one whack it's on a rollback they can be made inoperable in a parking lot crash. Then it's on the rollback diesel truck on its way to be recycled for a third time
Yeah, it's night and day of how cars are now compared to decades ago. Things used to be much tougher. I am glad to have driven a 1989 Crown Vic. Solid as a rock.
Cars these days are designed to crumple better to absorb the impact for you. They are in fact, much safer than these ever were (not as good looking though)
So well built that the engine goes into your cabin and sits beside you or on you in accidents. Fact many cars that are old many panels on various models were not thick like some people think they were. The problem is many think because a car is big they associate and start to have a belief older cars are better for safety. Movies are movies and those cars are built stronger for stunt scenes. I like the older cars they have less electronics. There are pros and cons to old and new. I have been to many county fair demo derbys and those big cars crumple up quit bad. Don't allow nostalgia and a belief of thicker metal to convince you that you will be safer. You simply allow your personal feelings to over ride commonsense.

I always find it funny how car tires squeal on dirt in old movie's.
If you spin the tires fast enough, you can get them to squeal on dirt :)
I had a set of Dayton tire that squealed on dirt I never believed it before that.
About as realistic as people claiming old cars are safer.
Buys tires on hard dirt. Yep that's the thing
Say what you will, there is no better era of car for road trips. Comfy floating couches that got 8 miles to the gallon.
Great Ina straight line, watch out for the corners..
Had that '71 Lincoln Continental be a Mark III, boom, you got The Car. But the movie says it's a 1972.
Shame it got destroyed...
Yeah… I loved it!
Back then they were just every day cars they smashed up
But it's a Town Car, not a Mark III. Six miles to the gallon.

Over priced and complicated definitely but fragile no, they are as safe as they have ever been with all the modern safety features
Lincoln, Mercury, and Cadillac all were rock solid cars
Ahh, an old fave! Siegel and Peckinpah flicks were the real thing back in the day.
Love how they're driving on a dirt road with tires squealing. Like how does that work? 🤣
I think there's asphalt underneath all that dirt, lol! There's more roads that were buried.😂😂😂😂😂
If the dirt is hard enough, those ol tires will squeal. @@77PacerStudios

Because tires WILL squeal on packed dirt. City person.
Thanks for posting this. I never knew this existed and went searching for it online. Great movie,
Same here never seen or heard about this movie Walter Matthau as a bad guy
Glad you enjoyed it
Me too, another good movie was The Laughing Policeman.
The name of the movie is Charley Varrick, 1973
Thanks
Saw it with Westworld. A great afternoon!!
Cops was after my Hot Rod Lincoln.
Now that song is stuck in my brain!
I just love the sound of tires screeching on a dirt road in the morning.
Notice at the beginning that the headrests were removed so not to block the view of the police car pulling up.
I noticed that too😂
I notice that right away.
Also old films remove the rear view mirror for same reason.
Driving withwhite Go-Go boots on! Very 70's!
and sexy
The second smash sorted the risen hood situation out 🤣

I’m getting myself a 442!
You'd have to rob a bank to keep filling it up 🤣
When a car could take a hard hit and keep going.
no kidding that was real hard core car bashing that Continental took out 2 Polara's
Beautiful cars Beautiful movies ❤
This is a great movie, Joe Don Baker destroys an Imperial & deals out some brutality in the second half.

"Nobody talks to me with that tone"
My favorite Walter Matthau movie
Majorly Underrated Gritty 70s Crime Drama.
They sure did build those land-yachts well, mes amis ! But, ironically only the canary coloured ones.
The tire squeals on the dirt road...classic.
Great movie. I'm going to have to find it soon. Saw it when it 1st came out. Yep...I'm old.
Excellent film. Matthau is awesome as Charley Varrick. Dean Wormer is quite good, too.
😂Soo much tire screeching on a dirt road.
What blows my mindabout this is that tires can make screeching noises while spinning out in dirt!
I Didn't Like What Happened To Poor Nadine. (Jacqueline Scott. She Was Also In Duel And Played David Mann's Wife.) She Didn't Have To DIE. 😢 sob
1:55-4:51. still the best clip of heist and police response I’ve ever scene!!
