As someone who has owned a Continental, a Mustang and a Granada I can tell you this was Hollywood magic lol The 460 in the Lincoln was pretty quick for being a huge car and even a 2 barrel 302 Mustang (which in this movie it clearly was not a 302 it sounded like a big block car) would out run a smogged down mid 1970s Ford Granada with relative ease.
@@cartoonfan959 I have never seen the movie but I did just find a 6-minute clip of a car chase, it's a Lincoln Mark VI (1980ish) and a 1980s TPI Camaro chasing a (turbo?) Porsche 911. None of them are exactly spry by modern terms but the Lincoln (with a lackluster preforming 400CI V8) the two sports cars would have walked away from (more like ran away from). I am pretty sure the Camaro would have struggled with the Porsche although at least it could have somewhat hanged since it handled really well for that era and it was known to be pretty fast for what it was. But yes I agree the 911 shouldn't have had a problem getting away.
@@AtomicReverend that movie is essentially the Fast and the Furious, undercover cop goes undercover into a Porsche car theft gang, gets attracted to the lifestyle and the charismatic bad guy (charlie sheen) and falls in love with his sister , so sound svery familiar it's always a thing in Hollywood that a chased car can't get away from something that should be (much) slower
When thiers a manual shifting sound track ( aka Bullet) for a 3speed automatic Mustang..( a 6 cy car...standard engine) anything is movie possible .. Rear springs in the Granada, Monarch, were terrible... Props to the stunt guy for setting down his gun before kealing over...lol..
Even this very silly car chase is more believable and watchable than the entire Fast and Furious series :D Oh and the music sounds very much like that was in the Sweeney first episode
I had a 1980 Granada and it was built like a Sherman tank. Sorry to see it blow up at the end. Love silly movies from the 70s with "outrageous" car chases. Best junk food for the mind ever! Thanks foe the upload.
Pretty cool and unusual Mustang, even for '79. I think that was a 'local' car from where they filmed it in Mexico. They used to do weird vinyl roof treatments like that there. Nice clip!
@@TheSeventhDeadlyMatador In the beginning you can see that Mustang has some weird badges on the lower front fenders. My mother had a new '73 Mach 1 and it had a factory vinyl top that was like a 'half top' that went from the front of the roof to about right where the quarter glass ended on the roof.
@@vincemajestyk9497 Cool, didn't notice at first and that's pretty awesome your mom had a mustang from that era. Was she into cars at all or just wanted a fun car when she was younger?

I can definitely tell the exhaust sounds and lots of tire screeching are recorded sound affects. It looks to me like the Mustang had to have had either the 250 V6 or 302 V8 while the Granada had either the 302 or 351. Otherwise, the producers intentionally made the driver or the Mustang go no faster than a certain speed so the Granada could destroy the Mustang.
Jorge Rivero also starred in another low budget flick called "Werewolf" in which Mystery Science Theater 3000 spoofed the movie. He had 5 different hair styles in that one.
Comedy gold. The sound dubbing is so poor that it's great comedy again, none of the cars goes any faster than 30 or 40, the flammable little red one, the trace down the cliff from an earlier take of the falling "Mustang", the squealing tires on mud, sand and loose dirt... as I said, comedy gold :D
So they shoot at each other Chase each other try to kill each other and he shoots off a flare and blows a kiss to a princess. The movie ends with the Brady bunch pictures. Connor's usually carried a rifle remember
Just curious did anyone else notice that when they do the interior shots. He's not in a 71-73 mustang. The B piller is to big and the back side glass is completely the wrong shape. Plus the seat isn't right also the door panels.

I laughed out loud when that car exploded at the slightest touch from that dump truck
It’s a built-in feature of the car.
You know how red barrels explode when you shoot them in video games? They built that van's body out of the same metal those barrels are made of.
Must have been loaded with nitroglycerin.
Same! must've been Pino based :D
Right! I mean… it wasn’t a Pinto!

Even The Rifleman needs a comeback. Greatest loss was the Lincoln.
1) the mustang must have been made out of wet cardboard to have been so dented up
2) have to love the screeching tire sounds on dirt roads
