- First of all a very big thank you to Matt Ball, PM Models UK on UA-cam, go and watch. He printed the parts out for me saving me time and money👍😎
Material used for the Vac-form canopy:- PETG clear 0.5 mm A5 sheets.
Vac-form machine can be found on eBay under Dental Vacuum Forming Machine.
Software used for creating the 3D CAD models:- Plasticity 1.4.20.
There are some great Plasticity tutorials on UA-cam, LEAD (Learn Everything About Design) and Nikita Kapustin just a few to mention.
These ones I found easier to watch and went at a pace I could follow. - Навчання та стиль
You can be sure that this is the very best build of this model in history!
Very nice of you to say👍
Nobody on this planet can "polish a turd" better than YOU, mate! For all the videos I've watched of you struggling with a poorly-molded kit, you ALWAYS deliver something that all of your viewers would be proud of!
He's a true capital M Modeller. I'm always amazed when he does something like this with an absolute lemon of a kit. I would've set it on fire in my backyard about 1/4 through
😂😂
You're so kind 😎
It's always a treat to see you tackle a difficult build. That being said, if you're feeling burnt out I'm sure we'd all enjoy a nice easy Tamiya or something 😁
I think you did an incredible job here. This is what real modeling is about. Turning a primitive kit into something that looks fantastic. And your viewers on UA-cam appreciate it a lot.
Dear Greg. You are The only one to create gems of the “unbuildables” old Airfix models we all (if past 50) love and remember. You are actually making The wonderfull boxart come to life. Please receive our deepest respect and thanks for that. Many greetings from Denmark😊
Thank you! I feel it's my task to build these old kits, just to see what a modern approach will give them👍
being one of your viewers that requested you build this kit, I apologise for the obvious torment it has caused. I did appreciate the build and the techniques you displayed. being an old kit of such an unusual subject the result was commendable. cheers stu
It had to be done, onwards and upwards. Lets hope Mikro- Mir release theirs👍😉
Don't be sorry. If anybody can turn this into a diamond it is Greg. He needs the challenge to keep him on the edge of modelling
Mate this build was something else. If that was me the bugger would have tried to fly down my garden path. Cracking job mate!!
My favorite modeler! Love your vids, and really appreciate that you don’t ruin them with crappy music. Keep up the great work
I'm SO done with shitty kits. At this point in my life I'm ready for shakeNbake kits that fit like Tamiya. Good for you that you finished it!! It looks absolutely awesome!!!
From what is visible, the build looks excellent. The mesh solution was another one of your greats. Perhaps the best way to look at the build is that it was the first in which you used CAD to design parts and by all, appearances, that was a major success. I’ve said this before and I’ll repeat it again, your videos make me smile!
Yes you're so right, it's been a useful learning curve for future builds.
I think you have done a marvelous job. This model will look great on the shelf.
You've made one hell of a silk purse out a sow's ear, Greg. Nicely done.
Greg, a truly excellent job - turning trash into treasure.
A heck of a lot of effort for a poor quality old kit that you had no interest in LOL! Great modelling skills, thank you for this, very interesting stuff.
Your ‘nightmare’ provided a great video to watch - & to marvel at your expertise in addressing manifold problems with an elderly Airfix kit. If the ‘ugly duckling’ didn’t produce a ‘swan’, all I can say is it went bloody close. Your videos are great!
Very nice, difficult build :) And very good idea to spray the mesh on the fuselage - very realistic!
Yes, it just one of those things that worked, thankfully😂
Oh my word! It may have sapped the life out of you, but you should be proud of what you've turned out. And you've now opened up that whole world of 3D printing. For 99% of us you are out there cutting down the undergrowth for us to follow on.
Very nice of you to say 👍😎
A meal? Ten course dinner more like 😂
Lovely to watch. Great result as always 😉
Anytime😎
I always loved helicopter kits. Don’t be too hard on yourself. I think you did a great job and I am sure you learned a hell of a lot, which will help you in the future. 👍
I am in total and absolute disagreement with you Greg, I must contradict you and without fear of being wrong I must tell you this: Your work is a sample of absolute affection and kindness to this old scale model. It's a scale model beauty! Greetings.
Thank you Sig. Greg
You do make me chuckle Greg. Knowing what an ancient dog of a kit this is, your final result looks fantastic. I don't think any of us wouldn't be proud to display this on our shelves. It's a unique and interesting subject too. Felt the same way about your Beagle Basset build as well as that turned out really nice too. Like many others here, I enjoy watching you tackle these old kits from our youth and the results are always worth the struggle. You're up there with Mike Grant in polishing up old Airfix turds.
These old kits need to be built and be given some modern help. But his one pushed my buttons 😂👍
I've recently lost my desire to watch model build videos. However, you and one other, have kept my spark alive. Your scratch building is amazing. Looking forward to your next build.
Anytime👍
Your videos are always inspiring, but this latest one made me go back and watch the last handful and together, these have helped bring me out of the worst modeling doldrums I've had in nearly a decade. Thanks for bringing me back to the bench, and please keep sharing your understated, no baloney style of modeling and video making.
Anytime Ralph, glad to be of help 😎
Outstanding build. You conquered a horrendous kit and with your modeling skills, a job so very well done.
Peter
I came across your channel looking for Privateer builts, now I can't get enough of this all stuff. Simply stunning! Lot of thanks for this!
The false start and the gluey finger were the highlights for me Greg! The rest of it was extremely interesting and once again, I've picked up some handy tips. Cheers, Rich'
Anytime👍
A true craftsman.
And now, with added waffle!
I remember building one when I was 11 , and finding it very fragile !! great build Greg , looks like a different kit !.
Great job. Tough kit but you certainly turned a lemon into lemonade.
Feel your pain, I built this in the seventies, but the amount of effort you put into this old girl is phenomenal 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Greg wonderful build , you have done a amazing job on this ,all the hard work you put in on this respect to you 👍😎
Well done Greg!
You came, you saw and Sir…YOU CONQUERED!
😂😂
Built this many many years ago in my early teens. It was bought for me by an Uncle who flew in them during his service in the RAF.
I think it looks fantastic your skills always amaze me
Thanks for sharing with us
I have genuine compassion for the horrors you endured throughout this build. I do hope, however, that you may garner some hope from the knowledge that any day one of your build videos drops in my feed, is a great day for me, Greg. Your work is truly inspiring, and I love every second I get to watch.
Looks a pretty sweet outcome from where I'm sitting. Dont you dare stop!
Pat yourself on the back, you've turned a nightmare of a kit into a little gem, don't beat yourself up, the kit was a dog to start with. Excellent effort, Greg.
Thanks David😎
This is most likely the best build of this kit I have ever seen, simply stunning!
I hear what you say and I appreciate the work, time and effort you put into building it, That said a brilliant build and model. Well done.
Wow, looks great. I really enjoy seeing how you approach problems and solve them, especially with older Airfix kits.
Ah Greg, so nice to see both the good and bad parts of the hobby and you never disappoint. So many vids are all nice and safe with their builds and content and rarely do they show the difficulties we all have sometimes. I have many shelved kits because I’ve lost interest or they are just poor kits that I don’t know how to rescue. I’m glad you pushed through and created a magnificent looking model. I hope you regain your love of modelling with your next build. Will be interesting to see what extra brilliance you create with 3d printers but I hope you don’t neglect the amazing scratch building of parts that you do. Keep the faith.
These old kits need to be seen built up, warts and all. I think this one is the worst I've had to tackle, but tackle I must and did.
The next build is another vintage one, which I'm hoping to start soon. But thankfully this seems to be a better kit. And it's one I'm very interested in building this time😂👍
I can relate Greg. I'm done with 1/72 biplanes. The 1/72 Flashback 1.5 Strutter kit did me in. Now 15 kits going to auction this weekend. Just don't enjoy them like I thought. Give me a simple Hobby Craft kit, very happy.
Meant to also say - good job enduring the kit. Tough go indeed.
Cheers Brian👍 I'm building something that goes together a bit better next time.
Despite all the pain I think the finished result looks great.
An amazing job. It's nice and refreshing to see a real modeller at work instead of a kit builder. 😊
Thank you Mark👍
Greg, you turned this junk kit into something that's a joy to look at. As bad as you think it is, I don't think so. It turned out very beautiful.
I didn't have the same luck with my Curtiss Condor, from Glen Coe.
I gave up and donated it to a friend. That when he finished it... he died. Of course the cause wasn't the kit, but it left me impressed. And I didn't see the finished kit.
A big hug
Thank you Sergio 😎
A great effort Greg , not easy but glad you pushed on with it and finished it off
I know you were frustrated all the way through, but really you have produced something way beyond what Airfix envisioned and that 99.99% of us could replicate. This is an amazing build by any standards.
I really enjoy watching your videos, especially when you start of saying what a mess you made, I just know it's going to be a gem of a build in the end. I don't think I could even get a 'shake & bake' kit to the same level as your 'bad builds'.
The inspiration, research, talent and sheer balls you display are no match for mortal men when it comes to these archaic kits and the lengths you go to.
I am a car builder first and foremost and dabble occasionally in aircraft but sir, if I may be so bold, you are of a different breed! 🤣
Absolutely stunning as usual!
That's very kind of you to say👍
Thoroughly enjoyed watching this build, It is really looking great 👌
You did a great job on this build Greg ...no complaints here ...your stash of models really is quite interesting! I always look forward to your uploads :)
Hope you like boats, that's the next build😉
Hi Greg, glad to see you back, I feel the same frustration when I build Revell kits.
Best wishes to you from NZ.
👋😎
All things considered, you did a great job! You should build something that goes together easy, just to mix it up and not leave you disgruntled with the hobby. Not every project needs to be a nerve away from the garbage bin. Having that perspective can do wonders for your personal drive.
Remember building this as a kid in the 70s!
Great work and I was totally surprised by what you conjured up from this hopeless model. Chapeau!
A fine result from your perseverance Greg. The vacform canopy worked well in the end and your 3D printed parts are just the beginning...
Excellent effort! Love what you were able to achieve in Plasticity. I'm currently learning that program myself. I get the frustration, but I hope you can come back to it at a later date, refreshed, and finish it off. Both you and the kit deserve the finish.
Lovely model, great techniques, I learn a lot from watching videos like this. Incidentally the rivetless finish is correct to my knowledge, there were very few showing on the original, Airfix were very creative with their detail, as with many kits of this era. More power to you Greg.
Thank you Joe👍
You're a very brave mad taking this on. Outstanding stuff
Wow, turned out great Greg, looked like hard work but your persistence definitely paid off!! I've threw a few in my wheelie bin lately😂, never going to touch a dragon kit ever again. Looking forward to the next video. Take care
Great job on a real clunker, Airfix should consider retooling a lot of these oldie mouldies
Yes that would be nice😎
Don't do yourself down - it looks amazing.
I appreciate your skills and presentation style 👏
Thank you Bob😎
Appreciate that this was a frustrating build for you but the result was good for the age and poor quality of the kit.
Deffo appreciated your effort
Good grief what a fantastic result from a pig of a kit superb work mate 👍
*The result is awesome for with the old "awful" vintage Airfix kit, you have so much patience and skill, in comparison this kind of kit is good for the garbage in my hands!*
Now that’s what you call fighting spirit.
I know you aren’t happy with the end result, but look at the new skills you now have.
Resin printing is a fantastic new tool for model making. But the crispness of the resin parts does show up some plastic kit parts which can make you feel less satisfied with the finished model.
I’d still say this was a triumph. Thanks for the great Saturday morning watch!
Cheers Martin anytime👍😎
Whilst I can physically feel the torment of this build, it's this sort of creativity (and maybe a touch of masochism?!) that really set these projects apart. I'm so sorry to say I thoroughly enjoyed this!
Thank you Saxonian. The next build will be another vintage kit, but far easier to build😉
I feel your pain when dealing with vacuum-formed canopies. I replaced one on the old Monogram F4U-4 Corsair with one I vacuum-formed off the canopy from a Hasegawa kit. It took me three tries before I had a usable canopy, but it was so worth it. I've got the same dental former model as you have. I didn't know that bottom frame was removeable! I really enjoyed watching this video because you always have creative ways for dealing with hurdles. I think your end result looks excellent, so I hope it hasn't killed off your enthusiasm for the hobby.
I only removed it because I saw other people do this, rightly or wrongly. It's a good little machine, beats using the oven in the kitchen😂🔥🚒
👍 It's good to see you, I lost track of you for a while. 👍
We had some nice sunny days, so made the most of them 😂😎
Well Greg; you may have hated every moment, but it will have continued to hone your skill set. The result is a fine-looking model. I expect you could use a holiday on a tropical beach now!
That would be nice😂
Looks like quite a challenging kit, turned out excellent!
What are you talking about Greg this is a lovely build, wow! My hats off to you turning that kit into this! Very well done! Such a cool chopper! 👏👏👏
Glad you like it👍 Greg
@@GregsModels definitely! I can't wait to see what you build next!
@GregsModels do you ever build any of the so called shake and bake kits like Tamiya etc, or others known as the Tamigawady (Tamiya, Hasegawa and Academy i.e.) or do you like the old classics more?
@@jonathanhudak2059 Yes I build a lot of Tamiya kits, 262 and Skyraider to mention but a few.
@GregsModels wow Well, I'm glad you get to have some pretty much trouble free straightforward builds in your repertoire! 🙂 You need them after builds like the belvedere to keep your sanity!
Great build. Love the final model.
This has always been a difficult kit to make a decent model of - I think this one is about as good as can be achieved. Well done!
Personally, although i can understand your frustration especially as I am nowhere near your skill level, you should be proud of what you've achieved. It looks really good. You have shown what can be achieved even though you shouldn't really have to redesign & remodel a kit.
Amazing attention to detail! Especially on a not so good kit. Very impressive
Another solid build and I'm not sure anyone could have done it better! Apparently the real thing was a nightmare to maintain and operate.
This a most incredible result. Great persistence and skills.
Fantastic effort and patience. Absolutely not my cup of tea even if I had a tenth of your skills and patience. But I think what your builds do for me anyway is encourage me to try harder at my own level!!
Personally too, I would be interested in a brief history of the model subjects that you build.
Thanks for showing us your work.
Yes, a few people have said the same thing. Maybe in the next video?
I could only dream of achieving this kind of result. As a rediscovering modelling amateur im envious of your skills.
Heroic modelling! I'm sharing this with my nephew so he can see what is possible with thought planning and care. Terrific model.
That's like making him watch a film like K2 before before even climbing a hill!
Remember building this, the flying banana and I think the 1972ish release Blackburn Buccaneer when I was about 8 to 10 y.o. All the fuselage halves were horribly warped so I can remember the pain 😢 Great build though, my hat is off to you sir.
Hello mr greg.greate job done.a nice little gem you have created.i really appreciate your efforts delivering fun and excitenes and Inspiration and knowledge.keep up the good work and Keep the faith.with best regards and sticky greetings from Brandenburg germany.faithfully yours.your modellmate.christian
Thanks for another amazing fun and interesting video. Your techniques are definitely not the most common but they get results. You have the true artistic seed rather than just copying what everybody else does.
Nice of you to say 😎
Greg, despite of what you might think yourself, I think this must be one of your best builds, yet !
The time you took, the efforts, the doubts, the techniques, etc... everything..... it all justifies the end result !
Most of us would never have taken the trouble to put so much time and effort into this model. You did, and the result is nothing less then totally stunning !
Respect !
Models like these set you apart from most other modellers on UA-cam.
Thank you so much you're too kind. Greg
I think you did a very good job of this kit. I remember building it way back as a kid and it was a terrible kit even when new. I know what you mean about losing ones mojo through a build, I think it happens to all of us over the years.
Awesome work.
It's always a pleasure to watch your videos.
Wel done.
I totally understand the feeling. Every time this happens to me, I go to the shelf and look at my gunship model. It was miserable build and I though the end result is bad. Now I can't always remember all of the bad spots that should be there :) Not all our models come out perfect, but each of them precious in their own way.
Thank you for sharing!
Yes, so true👍
A beautiful build , you,ve made a great job of this challenging kit.
Heroic efforts Gregg, well done mate. It will be great when clear parts can be 3d resin printed with the clarity of plastic. Always enjoy your work arounds and skills.👍
Yes so true👍😎
Great stuff Gregg, I think I built (glued) it back in the day, still it was back in 1959, and the moulds all finished by hand. Precision mould making was a high skill job, now I suppose it is all done by CNC
You done a Excellent job. I remember Gary's Stuff making a bad Sea harrier a few months but he got though it xx 😊
Something easy and fun for the next one is in order I reckon. We enjoy seeing you grapple with a terrible kit, but it would be nice to see you inspired by a good one.
There's another vintage one on the way, but this one is a far better kit to build.
The best example of "if you are in a hole, stop digging" Lol. But what a result, I don't know of another modeller who would have gone to these lengths to build this kit. I had the same kit more years ago I can remember and gave up trying to get it to look anything aproaching the real article. I don't think I even got near to painting it. Love your channel Greg.
Thank you Jeff that much appreciated👍
Looks terrific - well worth the effort.
Very nice! Thanks for the tip on adding white to the aluminum. Mesh is a great effect.
great as always Greg
Jamais je n'aurais imaginé qu'il fût possible de faire de ce kit une telle merveille.
Greg, vous êtes définitivement un magicien !
Thank you very much Renaud 😎
Great work , that’s above and beyond , it would have been straight in the bin for me
It was close😂😂
Hi Greg,
Love the build, and i know exactly what you mean by losing the will to live with some of the older kits. For some reason i gravitate towards the older kits and do get a deal of satisfaction from overcoming the shortfalls, but i also get very despondent about 2/3 of the way through because the builds do progress at a snails pace.
Anyway, lovely build of the Belvedere. As someone else said, probably the best build of this kit ever.
Cheers.
