These Mazda BG's were crazy reliable back in the day. They rusted away at some point, but the engine never died... never! It really was Mazda's most reliable cars, that came in the 80's and 90's. They were much more reliable than other cars of the era. It was special cars too, in a way. You could always know a Mazda on the sound, and going from a BF to a BG (or the 323F), was like getting the old model painted. They were different on the outside, but driving the car was no different... they were completely the same to drive, even down to the clutchpoint. You instantly felt at home in a BG, coming from a BF - almost like the BG was just a facelift.
Oh, btw... overheating one of these, is a big no-no. It will warp the head faster than saying "oops". Lucky thing, most of them never had that problem.

In the US these were called Mazda Protégé. They always lasted a good long time and I used to see them driving around falling to pieces but still running, I still see them every once in awhile. Great cars!

I still drive one! Bought it back in 2012. 1.6 liter engine. It is a 2003 one and it has 124000miles on the clock which in my opinion is very low miles Cuz my 1999 Dodge RAM cummins has 268000 miles on. Anyways it still is a good one and by the way its a stick shift.

I've had the same one, sold it for pennies in 2015 after owning it for 3 years. I wish I could rebuy it in the same shape I sold it 7 years ago. My first car. 323 1.3 BG, sedan similar to this in the video, same red. Good old times, the car just lasted me so long even after 300k and never had issues with it, even though I was hammering it and throwing into corners like a mad man. I had one story with it loosing exaust while on the road back to home, lol, me and my buddy had to stuck toilet paper to our ears because it was that loud, good old times.

Amazing reliable and economic car, had it for 11 years and no problems whatsoever. Took many long trips and enjoyed it so much, really miss it - they had the Mitsubishi motor which last long, long time - many kmts with no issues. Then bought a new Toyota Previa, and had the Mazda parked in my driveway for a year without using it, one day someone knocked at my door and begged me to sell it, the car started on the spot and the experience to see his smille when driving it away contrasting wiht my tears, was just overwhelming!
    So many great, beautiful memories!

Yes, one of the best 323's (BG) ever built. I have a 1990 1.8i manual since new. Has a lot of room (especially in the back). The only fault is a lack of low down torque and the high gearing only exacerbates this. Otherwise, a brilliant car!

my grandfather had this car since 1991 and it run like a beast, it had a 1.3 petrol engine with 90 hp and he earned it in a really poor country which was at that time a massive flex, after some time the car was dying, because in that country the petrol quality was really bad, and he was putting all kinds of petrols, the 87,89, 91 and thats how the engine failed, then he swapped the engine to a peugeot 1.6 petrol one, and then survived almost 40 years, such a great car

Oh. I love them cars. My mom had A 323 hatchback the same color and we called it the egg. I had bought one from the police impound auction that was wrecked at the front. Many years ago. I had replaced the radiator support and sold it to a coworker. She went down and registered it and a couple weeks later the repo man took it from her house. Come to find out the car was on the repo list when it got impounded from the original owner. I had to go down to City Hall and get a letter showing that I bought it from the city impound and she had to take that paperwork to the car lot and show them. They gave her the car back. Boy she wasn't to happy with me. But she got over it.

It is a gift to see such a car Japanese taken pictures of this car in the USA on the coast when they take a trip was really cool 😎. To see someone elses like this makes me really sad... That's messed up on the neglect this one got. The Mazda we got just like this one SoHc went easy 7000 rpm and is freaking fun this one's due for a rebuild and it's definitely worth it in every way for a family car. If you had the time for the engine the power band is awesome on a good running 1.8L BP SoHc engine but to buy new cams might be impossible if you wanted to change them from wear.

The pressure washing was very satisfying though I was expecting the rear wheel arch to disintegrate 🤣

i had one of these for a few months a few years ago , bought it for £250 ! the electricals were a bit dodgy and the clutch slipped but other than that it was a great car ! was like sitting in an arm chair compared to my e30 bmw that was waiting to get on the road . sold it a couple months later for £1000 , kinda wish i didnt thinking about how rare they are

Fixed the slave cylinder with a hammer. Made me laugh. I’ve got one of these but it’s automatic. Most reliable little car I’ve ever owned. Everything still works on it. Every switch and button

22:55 that sound from engine that knocking, its like preignition detonations sound? I have that sound on my car at summer when is hot and im going uphill or accelerating...engine is perfect and mechanicks told me its because of low octane, bad fuel in my country...and guys do you know, i changed clutch kit and now i have small vibrations on my front wheels when im starting from first or reverse slowly just by releasing clutch pedal...what can be issue for this problem?
