I am from Melbourne, Australia ..... My father bought me a brand new Mazda 626 sedan in Prestige Silver Metallic colour, back in 1990 when l was 18 years old. He paid $32,000 Australian dollars for it back then! Fully imported from Japan. The car is my daily driver and is now 32 years old, has clocked over 500,000km ( over 310,000 miles!!!!!!!!!!). Has never failed me and still looks, drives and feels like new. It is beyond unbelievable, people cannot believe it ... and l will never ever part with it. I STILL drive it EVERY DAY! I LOVE IT! I have religiously and without fail taken it for servicing every 6 months for its entire 32 years and have ALWAYS ensured oil and filter change every 6 months! BEST CAR EVER! And so smoothe. It even has the very famous oscillating vents!!! Love the nostalgia and it is very sentimental to me. Warm regards from Melbourne. 🇭🇲
I have 626 sedan, made 1991, 2.0 Diesel engine, still on run, 210 000 km of mileage. Very pleasant car, i like to drive it on weekends. Greetings from PL.
In New Zealand we had the option of European or Australian specification when these were sold new. I own a European trim GT sedan with a factory steel sunroof which is rusted similarly to this one, however the rest is fine. Mine has the 2.0 16 Valve with 5 speed manual, cruise control, full electrics etc. Only problem I've ever had, over the course of about 50,000kms of ownership, was with the wiring which was altered when the previous owner decided to save money by bypassing power steering electronics instead of replacing them. It's at 325,000kms and still going very well. A comfortable, capable and good looking car, especially with the front and rear spoiler and rear window louvers.
I have the sister car, a metallic black kiwi new 1988 Ford Telstar TX5, lowered on black and chrome 17"s, Remus muffler, sub and amp custom interior with a.SVO/ TopTown bodykit and rear louver - its a replica of the SVO Telstar concept car South Auckland Motors did back then. Always get thumbs up looks and comments. She's a one of one. It lacks some of the tech of the Mazda's (4ws, cruise control). 109 Kw FE dohc 16 valve and factory 5 speed car, aftermarket sunroof. Still has the shell high octane 96 leaded fuel sticker in the fuel flap!. Well into the 300,000's km wise now. Occasionally driven around Auckland, hope to take it to Cars n Coffee and to Hamilton for 4 n Rotor when its on. Not to display but just to cruise, Christmas day I last drove it, long since retired from daily duties. Its due a good long drive, last serviced on its birthday - December the 20th. Love them both the 626 and TX5 they drive exceptionally well, even now given their age, there's nearly none of them around. Last saw a blue 626 GT hatch in Richmond/Stoke around April or May last year.
@Anonym bmw 6 cylinders are too many. Can be very good, or a shit on the floor. Also with diesel bmw engines, it can be very good like the 3.0d or a shit like N47.
The engine sounds really good. Too bad the car is rusted out so badly. Maybe you can salvage the engine and other parts for use on another vehicle. By the way, I really like your Isuzu Trooper. Looks like it's in great condition. I used to see a lot of them in my part of Texas, but not many these days. Thanks for the video!
Those front suspension strut turrets have those optional extra inspection ports so you can check them while checking the oil, it's a Good engine but the old tin worm has had a feast on that 626.
This car is amazing, almost all things Is work Engine runs awesome Only one minus of this car is rust, it looks like if u take care of this car it will run forever
Had this mazda in Coupe body with 2.2 DOHC Engine in Kisinev Moldova when I was 19(39 now). It was a different type of engine with red writing on the top of it DOHC. Car was also Red in color. Ohhh boy, it was a rocket. 1989 year built but fully loaded except leather. I recall my muffler felt off one day and I had flames of fire coming from the underneath of the car when accelerating. Good Video.
I just bought an 88 mx-6 gt (626 coupe in Europe) it has a 2.2 single overhead cam motor. I've been getting it back to its former glory replaced all of the cracked plastics and rubber in the engine bay. I've sent the turbo off to a turbo tuner shop for a rebuild and upgrade and hope to have the car back on the road this weekend.
You've got a nice Mazda in a nice condition. The engine fired, it works very well without any problems. The air filter looks like new. Beautiful sound of this engine.
My parents had one of those. Was a fantastic car. Later on, my brother got a 1990 Accord EXR. Both cars really looked alike and both of legendary reliability.

When this 626 was introduced in Germany in the 80ies it became the most Imported middleclass car. That was really a car which was produced with a high standard of quality. My sister owned those days a red colour 626 Hatchback from 1989, second hand bought in 1994 wirh only 44.000 km. One year erlier I bought my 1990 323F. The interior of the 626 seemed to be made for eternety. Nearly like Mercedes. Driving was very smooth. The engine sounded a bit ruff but was very ecomomic. It was a 2.0 i12V with 90 HP. On our German highways without speedlimit it was easy to reach the maximum speed of 180 km/h. Unfortunately my sister lost that car in 2004 by an accident with total damage because a Porsche 911 took her way. Luckily she hadn't got any serious injuries. Because of the good experiences she and my brother in law bought a 1992 one with 140.000 km in gold metallic colour. After they devoced I don't know what happened to that car. The following 626GE was not as succesfull as the GD. The first prefacelift suffered of quality problems. Actually I own a 626 GF Sedan 2.0i 16V Exklusive Touring from 1998 with automatic climate control and cruise control next to my 2017 Kia Sorento. In my town you can still find a few of those 626 GD. But I have never seen a rusty crispy one like that shown in the video. That seems really to be unsafeable. Greets from Germany and thank you for your always very interesting videos.
As we say in Norway, the "steelworm" will eat these in the end. The mechanics are usually bulletproof, but the rust eats them slowly away. My dad had one of these in 1989-1992. A 2,0i-16 with 140 HP in the hatchback style with a rear spoiler in red color. He traded it in with a 1992 626 V6 which I found to be quite superior to this car. Better looks, better engine and better handling. The 2,5i V6 was quite peppy and a really nice engine.
I had a 1993 626 lx with the 2.0l and a automatic. At 136k the transmission failed and every repair center wanted nearly 2k to rebuild the transmission. Ended up trading it in for a brand new 2008 Toyota Tundra TRD edition 4wd pick-up

It started so quickly and everything seems to work perfectly. But if u have time to travel here I’m sure u can ask the owners if u can take it.

32 -year old car starts better after 5 years than some new cars after night ;)
The most underrated car of the 90's. Here in Central Asia we have a lot of them on roads, delivered mainly from Germany
