I liked the way you measured for the tub spout. In 30 years I never thought that way.I always measure the depth of the threads to the base of the spout
Why make that huge hole when you had the back opened anyway? The screws for the smitty plate would've went through the existing holes then all you had to do is make a smaller hole for the new valve. Just sayiing

Nice job Steven, I used to use Simmons but switched to Delta for several reasons. Most of all service issues and costly parts. I can fix a leaking Delta and be out the door with a Simmons I've seen all shorts of nightmares!!!!!!
steven lavimoniere I also live in massachusetts, and I work on Simmons valves ten fold and I have many customers with Deltas and hardly ever need to service them. And it is very inexpensive to replace springs & washers on them. Opposed to a $45 spindle on Simmons , I know you can replace the washers on Simmons but it's a pain. I've had more than a few problems with Simmons where I couldn't explain why I could not fix a no hot water problem new ta-10, new seats, hot water in but no hot water out, as well as hard to service seats if not impossible on an old valve. He's a plumber in Massachusetts. The valve he is installing is correct. By code up here you are not supposed to install the old two handle shower valves due to scalding. Hot water out of shower head must not exceed 112 degrees farenheit. Also a liability on Steve if someone gets scalded after he leaves, I would do the same thing. Keep up the good work Steve.
BILL W You are correct but he could of plumbed the hot and cold water lines into the tile holes from behind with new male adapters and install modern style anti scald valves that run along the tile wall. These are the nice chrome modern rectangular valves where the valve is actually outside the wall and they grab the tile with clips/screws. The shower head pipe runs along a rectangular body to the top. These are one handle but you can utizilize the 2 holes already for the hot and cold. They are expensive but its up to the customers budget always.

Angle grinder?? A reciprocating saw with semi circular tile cutting / grout rake blade, cut along the grout lines & remove the tile, much easier & far less messy, tiles can be replaced easily afterwards. Also, cut into the plaster for easy removal. But nicely finished job.
I was looking for a video for how to use a mistake plate to cover the hole you make in ceramic tile when you replace the old shower fixture but you had access via the rear. The thing in back of my shower is a shower! You probably couldn't have done all of this without access from behind right?
I didn't see how you changed out the mixing valve from the old two valve system. Did you just bypass that part of the job? That's the most important part of the whole project.

Hello, I need hep!! lol... Question: How do I remove a Glacier Bay single handle valve and reinstall a new valve (Hoping my wife chooses a Moen) in an Acrylic shower with only front access and only 2" from center of copper pipe (hot & cold- Shower spout & tub supply) and of course i need to add the extra cover plate as the hole i had to make to remove the "GB" valve was pretty wide and now i'm worried that the cover late back supports wont hold the cover plate in place once i get that far. I just don't have much room to do anything and need some advice. Thanks so much for your he
Thank you for this video. It's exactly what my plumber needs to do. I like the plate cover you used much better than what my plumber wanted to use, because this one is a better match for my contemporary decor, yet it is neutral enough for any style. Also, this one is easier to cut because it doesn't have curves. Where can I get that cover plate?
steven lavimoniere No I don't like plumbing work, but I find it a fascinating trade and a trade that will never go away!! Keep up the great work Steve!
In Canada Symmons shower control are very expensive. I used Moen shower control. Moen are also easy to repair and less parts. Patrick from Neighbourhood Plumbing in Toronto Canada
Great job Steve. Very professional and detail video. Learned and understood so many innovative and basic points. I actually came for a seized bathroom spindle (handle turned to fully open) that slips on even the nearest tube spanner. Any good suggestion?
Is it American Standard green tea model? I have the same trouble, and it's a piece of crap! I went with it because I love the green tea on my bathroom sink (spout pulls out so you can rinse out wash basin or your mouth), but the two handle trim controls slip because only a tiny set screw grips the shaft. What a horrible design! A genius designed the sink model, but his idiot cousin designed the tub shower trim.
I just removed a square foot of tiles and will cut away the dry wall tomorrow, but it is an easier job that that thick concrete........looks like Fort Knox. Nice work; dirty tub.
At first I thought this job would all be done from the "tile" side and that it would be very interesting to watch working in that cramped space. But, nope, easy access on the back side (simple drywall on back side and (apparently) in a closet at that - no tile, paneling, or cabinet work).
I need to have this done I guess. I've hit the old system and every couple years I have to have thecwashers replaced because the faucet will start dropping. And they charge me a lot just to replace the washers ! I use a root rooter type place to do that. If I get an updated system will it be washer less? And should i call a regular plumbing company or just have the rooter place do it ?
Thanks for sharing this stuff boss. It's helping allot. I'm watching your toilet flang vid. I'm doin' all this stuff tearing out my 40's bathroom. HAHA smoke alarm.
The parts design to block each, the cold water side one, the hot water side two, depending on the side you choose to turn on. Maybe when you open both faucets, both sides are unblock at the same time to bring down the warm water for the bath water. The shower switch located above the bath water knob turns the water into shower water which comes down from the shower head.
Awesome video! I laughed so hard when you said loved her to pieces and throw her in the wood chipper! Great video Steven I have NEVER seen that done before and wow you work so fast!!!
I hope you still read comments, what’s this type of valve and piping called? I keeping hearing “delta” and thinking “shitty” lol but is there no way to keep it 2 handles and not do the plate?
Steve---why did you use those channel locks in tightening the tub spout ? You had to have scratched or worse the new spout's chrome finish & maybe indented the metal. Just sayin'; there is a better method I use.....
I don't know if he's caulking off camera. People are saying he doing a sloppy soldering job, but I wouldn't know since I've never done that. I don't why the customer is being a motormouth. I like how steven makes a comment about it just loud enough for the camera to hear. He may be enlarging the hole as big as he can so any future valve changes won't require any extra cutting. I would think that caulking under the plate would help keep water out better. As I said, I don't know if he's just not cutting off the camera before he does that or if he is just leaving it like that.
Wow three inch thick wall. I love her to pieces. Throw her in the wood chopper. Hilarious. Love the plumbing videos Steve. Can't wait for the next. Thanks Jeff
Hi - great video! What is the white material behind the tile that you chisel away? Some tiles in my shower fell down, revealing the same kind of material, and based on when my apartment was built, I am wondering if I should be concerned about asbestos exposure...
+Kahla Davis on this job it was a thick layer of grout ,i do not believe it would have asbestos in there ,but not sure what you have there. if the tiles fell off maybe you can stick them back on with some laytex caulking . if the backing on wall is still stable .
good job Steve. you can purchase a moen tub and shower valve ( posi-temp) with retrofit plate instead of regular round plate. I wish you would answer some of the comments from plumbers wanna be.
Freakin' Fantasic Steve! I do have a question though... How tight did you screw that spout in? I have the same problem right now and I am afraid of cracking the tile or ruining something on the inside. Thoughts?
I liked the way you measured for the tub spout. In 30 years I never thought that way.I always measure the depth of the threads to the base of the spout

Yes, the normal procedure is to access it from the back side, thus no disturbance of tiles

Great video Steven I have NEVER seen that done before and wow you work so fast!!!
thanks jim
I hope you still read comments, what’s this type of valve and piping called? I keeping hearing “delta” and thinking “shitty” lol but is there no way to keep it 2 handles and not do the plate?
Steve---why did you use those channel locks in tightening the tub spout ? You had to have scratched or worse the new spout's chrome finish & maybe indented the metal. Just sayin'; there is a better method I use.....
No air chambers?
I don't know if he's caulking off camera. People are saying he doing a sloppy soldering job, but I wouldn't know since I've never done that. I don't why the customer is being a motormouth. I like how steven makes a comment about it just loud enough for the camera to hear. He may be enlarging the hole as big as he can so any future valve changes won't require any extra cutting. I would think that caulking under the plate would help keep water out better. As I said, I don't know if he's just not cutting off the camera before he does that or if he is just leaving it like that.
I love hearing a couple of NY, NJ, PA Italians dialogue. You'll hear the word "fuck" 1000 times in one sentence😂😂
Your a nice guy. I would have told that guy to kick rocks I’m working. Guess you been doing it long enough to multi task
Thank you for your video sir! I want to do this to my bath, and your video will be a great help.
Lots of videos of guys doing plumbing and then there are videos like this of Plumbers doing Plumbing. Great Job.
Good job steve, one thick ass wall for sure, them tiles will never fall off. How do those symmons valves compare to the moen posi-temp?
needmorediesel i like both ,but symmons would be my first choise
needmorediesel
Wow three inch thick wall. I love her to pieces. Throw her in the wood chopper. Hilarious. Love the plumbing videos Steve. Can't wait for the next. Thanks Jeff
i will try to bring more plumbing videos thanks for watching jeff
No silicone caulking needed for that plate?
15:12 - not only do you need a bunch of speciality tools, you need the fittings collection also!
Thank you!!
It's sand and cement
Best channel on UA-cam 👍
with that plate cover, one can fit any faucet such as Moen?
not sure moen plate is pretty big .this plate is made for the symmons valves

Does it come in black?
It's like there is nothing you can't do...Great job.
good job Steve. you can purchase a moen tub and shower valve ( posi-temp) with retrofit plate instead of regular round plate. I wish you would answer some of the comments from plumbers wanna be.
Wait a minute. If you could get to the back why did you open up the front? It's just the way it worked out in the end?
Great video steven
really enjoy learning from your Videos. Keep them coming
thanks for watching
LMFAO !! Good video, Steve. That homeowner sure needed someone to talk to. LMFAO Good plumbing tip though.

18:04 "I loved her to pieces. hahahahhahaha!"
i love those old bathrooms for some reason
That's a family of story tellers 😂
Freakin' Fantasic Steve! I do have a question though... How tight did you screw that spout in? I have the same problem right now and I am afraid of cracking the tile or ruining something on the inside. Thoughts?
you can work from behind .. why did you cut the tile ?
Really interesting video, great job..The home owner was so funny. Thanks for sharing Steve.
