Fantastic skills!! Most DIY instructors would rip everything out, and start from scratch, which can be daunting, as well as wasteful. Bless you sir!!

The section he's repairing ...but all the rest of them will crumble under all that molding behind the the tiles...no one is cleaning the tub at all...

I tell ya man, UA-cam is great! I just so happen to have a ceramic shower wall tile repair job this morning! On the first run above the floor base tiles. That have began to detach and sag, with no breaks or cracks. All intact! With some small grout touch ups here and there. Been a while so this helped.

I like the safety glasses and gloves that you're using as a safety example for us to follow.
    Good looking out...

I have a tile that was cracked and missing a piece when we bought the house. it's an older house so they installed it with a bed of cement. I want to take one out from behind the vanity to do the repair since I can't match it. with all that cement, how do I get the tile out without damaging it? ty

What happens when the new backer board thickness is different than the old? Too thick or too thin?

You didn’t address the seam between old backing and new cement board. It needs to be exposed and waterproofed.

To carefully prop the tiles from the wall - then it falls down to ground, lol

That mold is at the worst stage ( black poppy seed mold ) do not do this without containing the effected area or without proper PPE !

Cement board is not waterproof it's water resistant. also you should change that old ass three handle valve which probably caused the moisture problems in the first place
