SHANE ~Thanks a bunch for the review on my "Shovel Caster Guitar " , and thanks so much to those who have bought one after this video was posted, I have several more new Shovel guitars in progress, and will be shipping soon ! , Just search " Shovel Guitar " on E-Bay to see my listing. I keep relisting as I sell them, So if you don't find it just check again later. Note ! most of the fasteners I use are "Stainless steel" and they are all being strung with med. light electric strings. The hard wood handle ,and Tempered steel resonate sound extremely well, My custom made Shovel guitars have a unique sound all their own. And a lot of fun to play !
You pushed me over the top. It was the iconic video that got me into CBG building four years ago. It's time to build what got me started. Great video Shane.
Shane, thanks for this great review and these valuable musical insights. I love hearing about the principles that guide your approach to making music. You have such a deep sense of history and culture, and it takes your musicality to another level. Thanks again!
I built a shovel guitar and gave it to one of our popular local rock-n-rollers. When he plays it at his shows, his crowd goes totally nuts. It's that wicked, menacing hardcore tone that gets 'em every time.
I had that Champion 600 reissue and sold it. I love that little amp and wish I could justify picking up one used. I replaced the thick foamy grill cover with burlap and wedged in a Ted Weber paper cone ceramic magnet 8 inch speaker. She was a screamer, lol.
Love the video, very informative, what is the height of the aluminum angle you used, how far should the strings be off the neck? I'm excited to build one, your information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
Great stuff Shane. The Bone Digger stubby slide, is also great for electric Cigar Box Diddley Bows. The slightly rough surface, adds so much tone and character. It's my go to slide for my, broom handle single coil Cigar Box Diddley Bow. The thing has a primal scream with the Bone Digger 🎶😀.
Okay Man. Sorry for so many posts. I was a total metal kid myself & used to get hell for it! I went to see Motorhead on my own at 11. First gig. I get all talkative after a few drinks & never shut up!! I will just say once more thank you maestro & have a great day. Midnight here in the UK so I will sign off. Keep on it man. Cheers big ears. This drink is for you & everyone who was ever addicted to guitars! ;) Tom.
I started a shovel guitar last July. I used scrap guitar parts from garage sale guitars. I put a sandwiched rod piezo for the pickup. Never finished the dang thing. Now I got to find it. That one sounds cool!
Theme.. Gimmick... Same thing.. Digging song on a shovel guitar is as gimmicky as it gets lol.. I do like your playing style so kudos to you there my man. 👍😁
My uncle John who is 60 odd now took a job as a gravedigger when he was a teenager & could not get a job or get arrested. He loved the job as it was silent & his clients never used to bother him! Lol. No s$%t.
Nice review. Also, anyone on here who cannot build one or find one on ebay, check out justin johnson on here. He has em. Sometimes bundles and deals too. Not plugging just trying to help yas all out.
Nice playing Shane, lovely guitar, awesome pickup... shame about the cord but what the hell. A definite thumbs up from me. And I gotta say what sort of person gives this a thumbs down... Sheesh man, some flipping people! I’m from Brisbane in Australia, I recently started playing some rags and ragtime blues, which strangely kicked of a interest in modern bluegrass, which lead me to Appellation coal mining songs, which finally led me here. Interesting genera of music. Thank you.
What age did you get the bug Shane man? Sorry if I asked you this before? Cheers maestro. I really cant thank you enough. ;) Did JJ put you onto this after he did his tribute to Lemmy? Im not saying you have copied JJ but you must know of him right? I like the cat. Is it made by the same genius? I love it man.

I wonder how it would look if ? Running the strings down from the handle to tuners that were in the shovel face.??
I LOVE the sound of that Guitar Shane!!!! The pick up sounds AMAZING!!! Super cool ideas you have for songs Shane!!! WOW!!!
So clean and clear pickup! And yes, always consider songs. Life ain't a gimmick
I bought my shovel guitar from Justin Johnson. It looks identical, and sounds great 👍.

The one I built I used a dremel to etch frets after the wood ends.

Playing music all my life. Speed metal in school. Discovered blues in college
No, this is a different builder. Top notch stuff by a guy with 50 years experience in cabinet making
Shane Speal blues is great, but why give up speed metal?
Because I'll never be Dave Mustaine or Kerry F'n King.
Shane Speal I geuss it is hard to be like Dave Mustardstain.
unable to find those pick ups can you share a link please?
Mark Whaley Link is in the description.
Shane Speal not to be a pain but the link is dead

12 bar blues pickups are not easy to get in the UK. It's not worth the postage and import duties.

And this guy has 50 years experience as a cabinet maker. Top notch stuff here. Totally impressed!
