I'm thrilled to see another one-stringer video from you, some of your much much older diddley bow videos got me started building a pair as my introduction to CBGs. More how to Play Lessons Please!!!
sweet job Thank you for the Lonnie Pitchford tip and the how to make coper wire frets video. I will building a contra base one of these to replace my beloved low A canjo. I am afraid it exploded when the string broke. my first Diddley Bow was made out of an old oak door, the wire we use to build dead men for our fences and I made my bridge and nut out of pieces of and old draft horse shoe. It made a good wind harp too when left outside the foamily farms green house.
Thanks for tout Channel and " how to play a diddley bow ". What IS a name of song please ? I build m'y first cbg 1 string and it's very cool, thanks on France
As you know I'm going to build a LPG... My plan is to do a double neck Johnny Low style. It should be pretty cool. I've decided to use a little speaker running to my jack and that be my pick up. It should work famously.
Great video. Really cool little guitar! I’m going to have to try and make one. Loved the way you notched out the neck! It’s a fun thing to do. Do you think that as a beginner - having just one string to think about might help my rhythm hand skills?
A Scott Ainsley performance, the need to think, design and build, the song 'Come into my kitchen,' and you sir, have lead me to 9 cigar boxes...thin/long, large/shallow, deep, square heavy, long square heavy, 2 enameled pie pans, 2 red oak dowels, and 4' of gorgeous 1"x 2" tiger maple. Can you help me establish a starting point? This particular build of your's is of special interest because it's acoustic and aesthetically gorgeous! One stringed instruments have been played since Greek and Roman times, and include gut and gourds in African culture (pre berimbau) all I want to do is satisfy my level of craft and entertain myself (and others eventually). Considering that I've never played a stringed instrument, could you suggest for a first attempt? I can do copper frets.
Wish I still had access to that stuff. I used to work in a shop that made oak furniture. Too bad I hadn't discovered CBG's back then! Your bow looks nice and gives me ideas. Thanks for the vid!
Nice work as always Shane! I'll finish yet another d.b. tomorrow to play this weekend in a show, adding a metal Fasano pie plate in a cigarbox and a pickup... but mine will be fretless and mostly used w. fingers unless I get a bottle cut for a bottleneck slide... wound string, low D tuning... I find wound strings growl too much for my taste unless using a glass slide. You rock -and I LOVE diddleys! -Glenn
Now this is a good video, i have been putting off building one because i thought they had to be perfect, now im going to build one, rite after i go to stubbyslides.com 👍😀
I've built about 5 of these now. Can't play worth a damn but they're fun to build and noodle with and give to more musically inclined friends!
Always enjoy your videos, Shane! Lively and instructive!

Love it..I do slide 1 stringers . I use a screw as a nut and brass bolt for bridge.. Easy and fun to make. Grand kids love em....
Thanks for the video.

I love the analogy of the rocking chair

Ha ha!! Perfect - nothing sums me up more right now!
Love it. For sale?
It was sold a while back. Not too hard to build yourself, though
Hey Shane where would research old tunes you could practice with a didley bo
Search UA-cam for Eddie “One String” Jones to listen to his playing style.
@@ShaneSpeal thank you 😊
I will build a diddly bo just for fun. Quick question, what gauge of wire should I use?

Many poor children who started on these became blues legends. So hell yeah, go make a one string!!! Git that rhythm!
Shane Speal thanks - I’m going to give it a go! I’ve got the perfect box - gonna even try putting frets in!
Rhythm - I’m coming to get you!

Does the neck touch the lid of the box?
