And he managed to kill the leader by in which victory was granted for them. Even we must not forget about buliwyf's dog who was loyal to him and serve his master till death. Absolutely love how this scene plays out. The outsider, in a place far from home, and in a situation he could never have contemplated, asks his God a simple request: let me spend the last few moments together with my friends and go out, protecting the helpless against evil
He joins with his new brothers in their chant, and they all reconcile the fact that they have only a short time left but they’re going to go out like men, welcomed with honor by those who went before.

I was floored to learn that the story was heavily inspired by Beowulf. So yea, it is a Viking/Old English story. Beowulf was an Old English story about Danes after all. Dr. Jackson Crawford has cool video explaining the references to Norse myths/ hero stories, and Beowulf that Michael Crichton used for his book that the movie is based on.

My comment also contained something like a self-ironic remark, referring to the process of getting older. So even I, as someone born in 1987, will witness staples and products of my youth falling into irrelevance, a process every generation inevitably has to endure and finally learn to accept.
It's also fascinating for people who like movies and moviemaking and the history of movies to see what difference 22 years can make in the way movies are produced. The differences and sharp contrasts between movies then and movies now are significant. And yes, this movie is 22 years old, which is ancient in terms of technological development.

In the Book “ Eaters of the Dead”, The story does not end. The book ends with an enormous creature raising from the sea in front of the boat Ibn is traveling on. Michael Creighton cleverly writes this story claiming at the start as tale he found hidden and lost in libraries that he came across. The movie was made as part of a production deal with Creighton to make one of his other books into a film, so I think it was not highly publicized upon its release. But I find it as good if not better then anything Creighton wrote including Andromeda Strain, Coma, and Jurassic Park.

Yes, you are correct. Fair dinkum. It doesn’t take away from the original author who certainly put ink to paper ( vellum )... retelling a myth handed down by mouth from his forefathers.
Chrichton was still an absolute genius novelist. He, of course, westernized it and made that mythical account a coherent, plausible fiction version. Having no anomalous creatures or demons...(Grendel.) He instead added his genius artistic license to include characterization, plot continuity, etc...
I studied the mystic ice worm Ramoraz and a fairly good grasp of world wide mythology. I also know that what I know is the figurative tip of a much larger iceberg.
