Watch Conan The Barbarian here: • Conan The Barbarian
A powerful warrior seeks to avenge the genocide of his people and the murder of his parents at the hands of a snake cult.
It has to be said, not only is this probably one of Arnie's Best roles, it's probably the best portrayal of Conan ever! (If you disagree, then to Hell with you!)
This movie is 100% the most in line with Robert E Howard's Conan.
And to think, that Arnold didn't even know anything about the character, he says in interviews later, that he just quickly read up on the character and rest is history. We all got an awesome fantasy hero.
Hastala Vista, Baby !
Arnie greatest roles were a barbarian and robot=given his limited acting skills best casting choices for him yet he made those roles his own, indeed it is the best portrayal of Conan ever=and kudos to the unholy alliance of John Milius and Oliver Stone that brought this movie to life.
Although I agree with you, still to h e double hockey sticks with you!
@@MrRaulstrnad yeah definately conan and the terminator his best role and best acts

The Basil Poledouris soundtrack is a masterpiece.
The remake was a let down. The 80's remake 's FAIL, Name one?
with Crom, it is!
Constant music and every last second of it is superb. Watching the movie felt like I was watching opera, except that instead of singing about what they were going to do, the protagonists just went ahead and did it.
I don't know any other movie where the soundtrack plays such a pivotal role.
I concur!
Because he is Greek!!!!😉
Valeria coming back to save him is just awesome. Brings tears to your eyes. She's alright now, in Valhalla, and still loves him...
Still looking for my ride or die girl 42 years after seeing this as a kid.
The original Valeria is R E Howards Belit, the Queen of the black coast who attacks Conans opponent in that moment he is defeated and good as dead,
@@drhkleinert8241 There is Valeria in RE Howard's stories, also a pirate captain like Belit. But yes, this particular scene, with her returning from the dead for a brief moment to strike Conan's enemy while he was down was indeed Belit's moment.
I BET that is not only Valeria,But Crom HELPING Valeria HELP Conan get his revenge!
Not enough credit is given to Subotai the archer. He didn't have to stay & fight alongside Conan but he did anyway and at great risk to himself.
True friend. Great warrior. Nice hat.

In Howard's stories, Conan does befriend a lot of fellow warriors. He leads a whole pirate crew for a while.

Conan's prayer at the beginning and "do you want to live forever?" - those two moments never fail to send chills down my spine.
If I were dead and you were still fighting for life, I'd come back from the darkness. Back from the pit of hell to fight at your side." Valeria ...
42 years after..This is EPIC!! FOREVER! Cheers from Hungary!

The greatest epic movie of all times! The story the great soundtrack the heavy steel and horses sound effects the brutality the costumes the old fashioned production all together make this a masterpiece.
MAKE MOVIES EPIC AGAIN!!
For those that are too young to have seen this on the big screen, remember this movie came out 42 years ago. Now imagine seeing it for the 1st time 42 years ago. 42 years ago, these movies were on the big screen:
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
The Thing
Blade Runner
ET
Poltergeist
Conan the Barbarian
Rambo - First Blood
Tron
Rocky III
Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan
48 Hrs
Literally a block buster every month. Most of them have stood the test of time. Miss those days.
I miss wonderful 80's too
Dang do I feel dated! Everyone of them were great then, and great now!
48 hours and it’s sequel are so underrated.
For ever the one and only Thulsa Doom...Rest in peace James Earl Jones ( passes away today 9.9.2024)...

R.i.p ❤
The simplicity of these scenes is their power. They say everything that is necessary to understand. 🙏😊
One of the best battle scenes ever. Great movie. My mom is 75 and loves this film.
battle scenes absolutely stand up to the test of time ! beautiful
Barely speaks for the entire movie, and then drops the most macho prayer to a god ever heard on film. Great film.
Im pretty sure Crom smirked at Conans insult at the end of his prayer and conceded his wish
Considering how dumb and weak Doom's soldiers were Conan never really needed to make any prays to Crom. They have won by 0 to 20 or similar in three minutes or so.
I'm sorry but I don't think Crom can answer prayers. You're going to have to look to who Muslims and Jews worship to have your prayers answered :)
@@alicaramba7680 Other than the fact that Conans life was literally saved by Valeria coming back from the dead...
@@alicaramba7680 DEI enemies lol
James Earl Jones in one of his best roles. RIP
There are 2 dudes squaring against like a dozen and is still more epic than the Long Night in Game of Thrones. This is what happens when we have good direction, magnificent score, top writing and overall a clear idea of what the hero's journey and goal are.
Yes it is
You still crying about that? lol you need a girlfriend.
@@jamesfullard Lmao, butthurt much?
5:31 The most underrated scene in movie history,
For those who don't see it
Over here Conan obviously is saved by Valeria Which of course is a powerful enough moment... However the genius that the director was, explaining that he wants Conan to allow the enemy to fully recover in other words giving him a 50-50 chance now to win rather than eliminating him while he's blinded. That wouldn't be honourable as much as conan hated him It's as if he wanted it to be a fair fight, amazing acting here by the bad guy as well who really wasn't an experienced actor,
Almost looking surprised that he wasn't just killed while blinded just amazing directing and amazing composing, Which made this movie into an epic It's a shame today There has been a big shift in these sort of films... For example gladiator 2 doesn't have Hanz Zimmer composing why? Because it will sell anyway and the current audience can't seem differentiate from a battle scene to a battle scene that is done like this... With the correct music and directing Which is the very reason these scenes are legendary.
An army vs two guys ..... is that 'honorable'? pfft. Conan should have struck him down ASAP and not doing so only showed weakness on his part.
@@Archedgar Someone didn’t understand the story of the movie.
@@NoxWyatt Cope & seethe, kiddo.
@@Archedgar Yea it's not honorable on Rexor's part, but Conan fought and won clean. I guess he wanted to show Crom how worthy he is
yes this is the only real CONAN
It's a shame that the two 80's Conan films are largely forgotten. They're terrific - they look great, have wonderful music scores, Arnie is on top form, they are two of the best sword-and-sorcery movies ever. I love 'em! If you like these you'll like Red Sonja too.
This is one of the , if not THE, best protrayal of a barbarian in movies. When you see barbarians in comics and games, this is what a barbarian character is.
Classic humor part when the sorcerer gets his first melee kill (we assume) - "I did it... with my spear!" Bit of shock there as he absorbs the XP boost and levels up.
Wizard. If it had been a sorc, he'd be more damage focused. :)-
This music is up their with John Williams’ and Morricone’s best work.
Exceeds it imo, this is my single favorite film score of all time
Basil Poledouris has made some of the greatest soundtracks. Conan the Barbarian/Destroyer, Robocop, Starship Troopers are some of my favourites of all time. Truly a legend that stands the test of time.
"Crush your enemies, see them driven before you & to hear the lamentation of their women!"
Agreed. Nothing without Kurosawa.
God I love this movie so much! Milius is a legend!
I appreciate all the stunts each time I watch this. Is it flawless? No, but its way more believable than modern cinema with all the CGI and pansy choreography. Conan looks heavy, and fights heavy and it looks fantastic!
My favorite part is when Mako gets his first combat kill. "I did it! With my spear!"
Considering the low budget and numbers, the scene is great depicting small scale combat using hit and ruin tactics in an enclosed defensive area like Stonehenge maybe that was the allegory..
The first rated R Marvel Movie. Then Blade. Legendary fights, legendary action stars. Legendary Soundtracks.
This is based on the original Robert E. Howard books. Not the Marvel comics.
Marvel? LOL. Give credit to the great Robert E. Howard, the creator of Conan.
The horses need praise for some serious stunt work in this epic scene! They get thrown around all over and get right back up!
Some got jacked up for sure.
One can see this is not Blue Screen and has real heart and real action, with real epic soundtrack.. Where do you get actors and films like this today?
the scene is terrifying and epic at the same time.
Great soundtrack, Great costumes and great actors what more do we want. Anold will never be in the conversation for best actor but tell me what movie of him you dont like ? they are so few, hes one of my favorite actors.
I had never counted it up before, but Conans friend the Archer killed most of the men. He killed at least 10 men if not more, although Conan killed the two most skilled warriors.
Conan kills between 10 to 12 men (it's unclear,) including (as you stated) the 2 best fighters.
Subotai is a legit bro though, and shows the effect an archer with distance and the ability to fall back, has on a battle.
Im not sure the way those spikes were setup they would stab the enemy?
@@dubs8049they more force the enemy to go in specific paths and not go into them etc
@@suburbansolarhomeandpreppi9936 Don't rely on this in a real world. Only in movies and fantasy books enemies are so stupid and weak.
I was watching this once. A friend randomly showed up unannounced. He looked at the screen, looked at me, then looked at the screen again. Then just sighed and sat down.
Highly recommended movie. Good monologue by conan
Epic movie, soundtrack's one of a kind!
Arnold was the King of The Action heroes...
My favorite James Earl Jones performance! RIP

Thulsa Doom, a.k.a. James Earl Jones, you will be missed! You had taught us to be stong
it is and will forever be my favourite movie of all time
So under rated. Saw it in theatre on release. Been a fan ever since. Lots of little treasure finds in it if you really listen
04:36 I love that they used the death noises from Golden Axe in this movie, makes it sound very authentic.
It's the opposite, since the movie came years before the game.

What a film! If you are familiar with Robert E. Howard's Conan short stories, then you would know this is not entirely faithful to the original character, but this is still terrific cinema and an homage to the legacy of those sword & sorcery epics. Thulsa Doom was actually the enemy of Kull of Atlantis, one of Howard's other creations, and Veleria based on the character from the Conan story "Red Nails" and on Belit, a pirate queen from "Queen of the Black Coast." One has to acknowledge the tremendous depiction on the screen, however; Arnold was simply born to play this part and is as much a physical force as the Conan that leapt off the page, often described as a powerful panther like presence with the sinews no civilized man could match. Basil Poledouris made his single best score - I heard it played frequently at a big popular gym in Fort Worth catering to serious weight lifters, body builders, and athletes and I can tell you the combination of heavy metal being moved in 100 degree Texas heat while that score is pounding out of the speakers is plenty of motivation. I am a little sad Arnold never got the opportunity to reprise this role for a third time (I hear the script for "King Conan" got shopped around but never quite landed), but Conan the Barbarian is still one for the ages.
i read all of them in high school during detention.
Agreed! It's actually great how Milius balanced between homaging Howard AND making deviations from the way the character is fleshed out in the stories. Conan was never given a brooding backstory related to trauma and revenge in the books, and I know there are some Howard's fans who do not like this being present in the movie but I think it's good Milius tried to do his own thing. There are plenty of great homages like the one you mentioned, plus the vulture scene, and the flash-forward to King Conan of Aquilonia. Not to mention that overall the production design of Ron Cobb perfectly captures the feeling of the Hyborian age.
But in fact yes, Belit came back when Conan was defeated and near death but she was a complete other woman (Pirate Queen in Africa). Valeria is another Woman in the Story and not that tough like THIS Valeria.
I watched it over 200 times on a VHS, once...
Wow, I watched it about 10-15 times....
I don't hear nearly enough people talking about how incredibly awesome it is to finish a prayer with "...and if you don't get me what I want, then F U!"
I don't know Crom, but I'm sure he and conan are on the level here
Crom is the god of the Cimmerians ( Conan's tribe), the god of mountains, rock & metal.
In the original books, it is stated that he gave the Cimmerians the gifts of willpower & the knowledge to forge steel. He also told them to never pray to him ( he actually hates that ) or build shrines/temples to his honor, instead he wants them to perform ''deeds of courage'' if they want to please him.
Like Conan, taking on a powerful sorcerer and his army with only 2 guys, that pleases Crom and he will overlook the fact that you prayed & trashtalked on him at the same time.
@doublep1980 well that is extremely awesome. Thanks for sharing!
when thorgrim gets staked.. that groaning sound effect is the same one in the Golden Axe arcade game.. and probably other games
Of course, Golden Axe came out _after_ this movie...
2:03 - That's in Golden Axe as well.
1:07 I love how the music is like "LET'S GET IT ONNN!!!"
Like my prayers before exams at High School.
In the comics, Conan is friends with Dr Doom. He throws roasts at Doom anyone else would be killed for, but Doom does nothing because he's impressed with the absolute amount of DGAF energy Conan has. Conan just says it as he sees it and hurt feelings ain't his problem
Doom likes how there's no BS in Conan.
Unbeatable movie! I must have watched that a thousand times then got in the mirror with my plastic sword haha
The soundtrack of this movie is godlike.
Made the battles just epic..
4:36 scream was used in Golden Axe :D
I learned more about resource management rather than the best mamagers from this film. Believe it or not!
the random moment were conan was saved by the valkrye is such an unexpected moment and very cool / how stylish
Obvs you have not seen the film 🙂

This movie is best in life
4:36 was that the Golden Axe minion death scream?
yup.
2:03 - That's in Golden Axe too.
My grandpa that was a hard worker part of Korean war when it ended and went to Japan to restore peace in 50s!
He took my mom uncle's and his wife my grandma to see this movie Conan!
And he always told me before Arnold Schwarzenegger became the Terminator, he was first as Conan, Zeus in New York, and then the Terminator!
Which is why I loved my grandpa so much and this movie very much!
Restore peace in Japan in the 50's? To my knowledge, there were no conflicts in Japan in the 50's. Perhaps you meant that your Grandpa fought in WW2 in Japan and the later went to fight in the Korean War in the 50's? I am not brining this up for anything other than concern; I see so many young people being neglected and in my opinion abused by the public education system. Teaching the fundamental basics, such as history, has been cast aside for the sake of brainwashing and leftist indoctrination. I do hope you understand my meaning and take this in kind.
Everyone knows that a moblie transport, whilst an incredible help on the open plains becomes a great adversary in confined spaces. Simple principle.
If those men had been on foot, the same success would not have happened.
Even better, the movie makers knew this and played it out logically. Fantastic stuff.
Such an underrated movie and an even more underrated soundtrack. I'd put it up there with Star Wars as a soundtrack.
I'm glad Conan got his justice for his tribe and family.
5:35 This rescue happens in a Conan story where he's taking on a creature that's basically a crossover of The Hills Have Eyes mutants and The Predator.
OG Conan fought aliens every now and then.
The ONLY thing I think would have improved the clip would be extending it just a few more seconds to include Conan's salute to Valeria.
Conan! Maximus Fights In The Coloseum | Gladiator, we are born to fight and to survive
Best of luck to you a great warrior that you are!!! And a leader!
Now as an adult I rewatched this movie after many years and I really didn't remember it was THAT FCKING GOOD

4:35 I heard his scream in a video game called Golden Axe 2
Isnt the guy impaled on the spike the gladiator that came out of retirement in Russel Crowes gladiator movie?
Yes, Sven-Ole Thorsen. He's a friend of Arnold from his bodybuilder days & stuntman, appeared in pretty much all of Arnold's movies and many other big productions like the original Gladiator. He's retired now.
The guy with the bow and arrow is my favorite😊👍
Jerry Lopez. He was a famous big wave surfer at the time.
Time Stamp 05:15 - 05:30, somehow I always picture Valeria smiling and laughing as she asks: “Do you want to live FOREVER Cimmerian?”
EDIT: I’m sure Valeria could cook & hunt. We know for a fact that she could more than hold her own in a fight. Conan never had to look anywhere else for someone else. That is a Woman!
Yep just let be us men do our stuff and women do there stuff 🙂going to watch Miami vice after this 🙂
No cgi..... twas a magical time.
I think Crum heard him!!!
Praying to Crom is to invite wrath and misfortune. Who's wrath and misfortune is up to Crom.
My favorite part is the big guy with the hammer being impaled, then Conan gazing at him while the other big baddie comes charging at him,
05:00 the best scene ever!!!
The 80s will never be matched for movies
better than rings of the power tv series for sure
Even though somewhat unrealistic, credit is due just for the mere fact that this was before CGI and they had to actually wear little bags of blood such that when struck with the weapons, they would pop like water balloons lol
Doom's army is like, 20 guys. He's Conan; what's he got to fear?
If you think about it... this film is kind a unique great sword & Sorcery musical. The score is the main "actor" in the whole film.
Crom does not answer prayers nor does he show any attention to anyone. At birth, Crom grants every child the gift of courage and them leaves them to fend for themselves. Which is all that should ever be expected from a god.
Thorgrim is Tigris of Gual from Gladiator
Even without graphics, the clumsy arrangement of battles looks so brutal...
I they make a new movie about Conan they have to put basil’s soundtrack again, this is the soul of hyborian age
Thulsa and his men lack even the most rudimentary sense of tactics or how to use the geography or weapons- charging in headlong on horseback against a few men with a bit of cover and prep time, instead of dismounting, moving in slow, using their eyes, or for that matter using archery or fire, to winkle so few men out of such a weak defensive position with no real walls and many points of entry. The position and the defenders small number could have been an advantage to Doom, but he handled it in such a way as to make them advantages to the defense.
Still epic though, every bit as much fun as 40 years ago.
Yeah, because they weren't a real army. They were a pack of snake cultists and goons. Conan and Subatai were extensively trained in military tactics. That last fight was a nice touch on that. For most of the fight Conan was just chopping away. In the last fight, he showed that he was truly a master swordsman and not just a strong brute. It always got me to see Asian sword styles being used by a monster with a big bastard sword
