Love the atmosphere at Yost. Its very special. But I have to say, the real effect of "The Blues Brothers" is even more awesome at a football game when you get the entire band and about 35,000 students doing this. Its amazing. Love the solo at the end.
@jlaff0316 The parent was Jack Johnson's dad. Prior to him, it was a dance by the water buffalo, a guy that use to wear a blue hat with horns. You can see a clip of his dad on youtube. Jack left for the pro's quite early (third overall pick in Crosby's draft class), and the dance was kept alive after he left. As for the band moving closer to the students, that was due to the administrations inability to keep the students from yelling the "See Ya Chant", and tried to drown out the cheer.
Hahahaha, michigan hockey, never gets old does it??? If i had to chose, the maize rage at the basketball games or the student section at the hockey games, i think we have more fun at the hockey games lol. although basketball is fun too.
My understanding is that it started with a parent dancing to this song while the band played and one member of the horns(one sax, one trumpet, tuba, trombone..etc) they would perform a solo during the song and the parent started dancing and the students followed suit and then the band was moved closer to the students and it has grown to this...my understanding.. @JohnLowe86
This is cool, but I long for the old days when they had a drum cadence that they would do during the 3rd period of a blowout, and the conductor would have a dance solo.
@@2styks sweet. i was trying to figure out if was earlier. i personally know a copul epeople that were in the hockey band 1990-94 . but the michigan marching band/hocky and bball bands are the very best every year!
They play it every home game during the 2nd intermission, and it NEVER gets old. Yost is the best arena to see a hockey game at, PERIOD.
Watching this in Ireland. Absolutely love it. Really catches the exuberance which makes the US so special.

I remember when it was Michigan v. one of the alaskas, and the student section sang it all the way 10 minutes into the 3rd
