The Witcher 1x08 - Geralt & Ciri find each other

- The scene sadly isn't nearly as good as what you would hope it to be when you have read Sword of Destiny considering it's supposed to be one of the greatest moments in the whole series. Even Witcher 3 managed to make its own reunion as good as in the books, so it's a real shame. But I guess that's modern-day Hollywood/TV for you :(

Geralt: doing side mission
Yeah, if put it in the game, all the stories he went through are exactly the side missions!

At the beginning I didn't think Henry could pull off Geralt, but now I see that I was completely mistaken. This man IS Geralt, without a doubt in my mind.
Maybe just maybe it was his destiny after all!
Thought the same! Wasn’t a fan of his Superman so I was a little skeptical going in but holy crap this man will forever be Geralt! Brilliant performance

When she ran into the forest and he showed up to the house right after, I thought the show was going to end without them meeting and my anxiety skyrocketed, but when this scene finally came, I felt so whole and fulfilled. Then that setup into season 2 with her saying “who’s yennefer” chills!

Same here, I kept on telling myself to take it slow, one or two episodes a day. Aaand I ended up binge watch it in one day🤣🤣
I love how serious the populace of this universe takes the "law of surprise" (and by extension, destiny.)
Geralt invoked it mostly for shit's and giggles, but when he realized that it would result in an actual child, it became his main drive to find and protect her - a child he had never met. Likewise, Ciri has never met nor seen Geralt, and probably had no idea about the law of surprise, yet ran at him like a long lost parent. Absolutely amazing.
Hahahahahahaha this was a joke.
@loafhero did you read the books? Ciri will be together with Geralt?
She saw Geralt before, back when she was playing with her friends on the street, she was starring at Geralt standing at the door
Well, Ciri went to find him because she didn’t have much choice. He’s probably her best bet at staying alive now that she’s all alone and on the run. She’s not yet who she is meant to become.
Tsar Yeah, but didn’t know who he was.
I love how Geralt walks into the woods without saying a word after hearing the conversation.
Nin9211 destiny
Kind of sweet when you realize that Geralt doesn’t really hug anyone but he hugs Ciri
@@user-xd7mk2xz2h agreed. They cut tho whole Brokilon Forest story out of the show, which really diminishes the bond between them. Even the title 'something more' implies that not just destiny alone is enough to bring them together. I think this is due to time constraints. I mean, how the hell are you going to adapt word for word, a whole, complex book into only 8, hour long episodes? So, yeah, this scene did feel off, as they just run into each others arms, without ever properly meeting before.
@@user-xd7mk2xz2h I thought it was pretty decent. Ciri had seen him the first time geralt came to collect her. And then, her grandmother told her to find him, meaning he was her only hope to survive. Imagine a child raised in a castle with all the facilities she could ask for suffer like Ciri did when she was searching for Geralt. For her, seeing Geralt in the woods may have been like catching a ray of light after suffering in darkness for so long.
And as for Geralt, we all know he is a softy, though he doesn't want it to come to the surface.
S. H. R. Rjjal she knows it’s Geralt, the man she’d been told to find. Destiny and all that
Hugh Morris Yeah, but the point of this scene in the books is that for Geralt she’s more than destiny. She’s “something more”, which is actually the title of this short story in the books. Here she’s just destiny.
Was anybody else thinking when geralt came to the house something like NOOOOOOOOO CIRI COMEBACK THIS CANT HAPPEN
I did... eventhough I read the books XD
Yeah i screamed too
I did. I was like “noooooo!”
THIS IS FCKING ME. XD
I have read the book but I still did. I was screaming "NOOOO! COMEBACK!"
I think the reason they added the tension ending "Who is Yennefer" comment was just highlight the fact that she recognized him prior to actually meeting him because of her dream.
i thought it for sure meant geralt was still lucid meaning ciri had gotten away and geralt was still unconscious dreaming and this was just one of the dreams he was having thus the confused face
@@evn2787 no, they found each other
@@Sablizzlebazzle then why did ciri say ''who's yennefer'' how would she know about yennefer

I love the fact that since Geralt is linked by destiny to Ciri, but also linked to Yennefer because his wish to the djinn, that makes the three of them linked one to another.

You guys know whats kinda funny. The women was (from my understanding) fully intending on adopting ciri into their family. The man offered geralt the law of surprise. Meaning that if he accepted that he would once again get ciri through the law of surprise. Double child surprise.
Exactly what happened in the books, wish they didn't change the plot.
This scene happens in the game as a flashback when Geralt finds Ciri.

i will be like .... "Girl please, i don't have time for drama, dont even start"
I really enjoyed it everyone just keeps complaining that the book was better but of course the source material is always will be better like yeah everyone got it still dosent take the enjoyment out of it really
Tbf, I think the complaints on this part are more than well deserved. They could and should have not included Dara in any way and instead let Geralt meet Ciri in the forest completely unknowingly (like in the books) to who they are to each other shortly before they depart again (aka Geralt running away from her). It would have worked brilliantly and only really needed around 20 more minutes of screen time if they just had went that way.
Flash-224 yeah it could but I think like this gave more of that destiny feel to it it made a little more cool specially for people that haven’t read the books or played the games if they made straight from the books people would say it was very weird they just meet out of nowhere but there is some problems that I had as well stuff they could have done better
@@Flash224 some things are too slow in the books or to uninteresting for major audience so they had to change. The series is still pretty awesome
@@Flash224 but why tho ? We dont know if Dara wont play more of a significant role later on and if it was exactly according the books then what would be the point of watching it ? I for one like they changed something because i dont know whats going to happen for the next 6-8 seasons to come
@@Pattisek Because Dara is not a character in the books and in the show he is portrayed as an all-knowing guy who always seems to find a way out which ruined the whole Brokilon part in the show. Besides that, he is incredibly bland and the actor really did his best with what he was given. He really is just there to get Ciri from Point A to Point B adding nothing of value.
And the only way for Dara to come back would be to replace a certain character when Ciri gets to the rats and oh boy would that be a shitshow if they go that route.
Don't get me wrong, a lot of the material from the books was adapted brilliantly
and the show is good, but that's just it. It's not brilliant, incredible or perfect. Just good, like 8.2 out of 10.
It needs to perform at a 9.5/10 level at least if they want to finish the series on Netflix in a satisfying way and also find a way to add something themselves in order not to run out of book content in 3 years. The 1st season is over and we have already finished 2 of the 7 novels of the original The Witcher series in the show content-wise. And the show will also only get more linear from here on out. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the show finishes with Season 5 already at this pace.
Can't wait so see Ciri develop and grow father, daughter chemistry with Geralt.
And she gets along with Jaskier very well. I want to see that too.
They picked a lot of great people to play the roles
But none as well as Geralt, Henry is an amazing actor and being a fan of the books and games beforehand, he's nailing this role
Gerald and dandelion is the only good cast. Rest of em are a big miscast
@@devanarayanan1243 Ciri seems cast well enough. Yennefer is alright. Triss is definitely miscast though.
For anyone who is confused, Geralt had already met Ciri before in the books, but rejected that she was his destiny the first time By the second time, he wholeheartedly accepted it. In the show, they condensed it down to one meeting, and both had been told to find each other, etc. In the novels, finding Ciri again was his confirmation, whereas here, it appears that Geralt is fully sold when she asks about Yennefer, since she had no way of knowing unless she was connected to both of them in some way.
I just decided to watch this randomly on Netflix and I'm so glad I did. I didnt know it was a book/series which is wonderful news.
What does destiny means on this serie?
Gray Leprechaun - destiny means it was meant to be. Usually destiny is inescapable and when you try to avoid it, bad stuff happens, kind of like what happens to Geralt in this series.
This scene and the flashback scene in the isle of mist in the witcher game where they hugged both gave me tears.

Indeed. This scene would have been more emotional and impactful had GERALT MET Ciri in Brokilon like he was supposed to. Big sad
Agreed. The show was a bit confusing with the timelines, it was sometimes hard to tell what period we were in. I get why they used timelines but feel it could’ve been done better. Also the dialogue was weak. How many times are the characters going to use the word “destiny”. C’mon, people don’t talk like that. But other than those things I thought the show was very good and I look forward to season 2.
@@Bigblue091 Yeah, although I feel like the man Doing Geralt shows him being a complex character well, they need to give him more natural dialogue and directing. He just felt too forced for me. De Wey Of da Deval yeah they removed and replaced a lot of things and I didn’t like that. Also they removed a lot of dialogues between Yen and Geralt so their romance felt forced and not at all like it is in the books.

The lighting changes in this scene are EPIC! Just that little extra illumination we get when Geralt turns back around when he senses Ciri. Per-fection. There is literally a sense of "Oh...there you are!,"
"Geralt!" the little girl repeated, hugging the witcher's chest. "You've found me! I knew it! I always knew! I knew you'd find me!"
"Ciri," the witcher said.
"You've finally found me! Oh, Geralt! I waited all this time! It took so long... We'll stay together now, won't we? Now we'll be together, right? Say it, Geralt! Forever! Say it!"
"Forever, Ciri."
"It's just like they predicted, Geralt! Like they predicted... I'm your destiny? Say it! I'm your destiny?
"You're more than that, Ciri. More than that."
I just finished Sword of Destiny and teared up during the end. Absolutely beautiful.

I generally loved the first season, but thought this moment felt so strangely out of place. It felt overdue, yet somehow it wasn't earned yet. Apparently, Netflix forced the production team to cut roughly 30mins form each episode to hit the 1hr limit, with that knowledge it feels like so much context and build up was lost and therefore some of the shows quality. Still happy with it but definitely felt like it could've been better.
really 30min? ugh! wish they could atleast release the uncut version or those clips later

@@renuv6806 seems like a such a waste... that basically means they could have like 4-5 other episodes out of the footage.

Read the books, trust me on that one. It's much more than that...
@@TileBitan is something more.
Michael Bay I’ve read most of the books, up to Baptism of Fire
@@OfficialAndies didnt you see then, all the crucial bits they skipped? I liked the series dont get me wrong, but i expected it to be more exact with the source material
@@TileBitan I can understand the logic of the writers team, they got the spirit right for me
The show/books hinted something else about Destiny too, the trader who saved Geralt offered to repay him using the Law of Surprise which is also Ciri - an adopted girl he just found out he has when he got back home
It kinda sucks that they skipped that part...
@@urosstankovic5795 I think they will "mention" it in the 2nd season when Geralt return to that house with Ciri
Destiny bounded Ciri and Geralt twice, and this is proof for Witcher how much he was wrong :)
@@PaulThrashu Yeah XD
Achievement Unlocked! “Something More”
Much more
As they finally near the merchant's home, his wife, Złotolitka, comes running out to meet him, clearly thrilled that he has returned safe and sound. She does have a concern though. While he was away, she took in an extra child, a girl who had been orphaned. Surprise! And now she's worried that Yurga will be angry at having another mouth to feed. It does not take long for the children to come back and among them is a certain ash blonde haired girl with green eyes, Ciri. Geralt and Ciri run to each other and embrace like father and daughter. Ciri says, "It's just like they predicted, Geralt! Like they predicted... I'm your destiny? Say it! I'm your destiny?" In reply Geralt says, "You're more than that, Ciri. More than that."
The passage from the book.
I think the choice to have her wander off at that moment was to clearly add one more bit of suspense before they do actually meet shortly there after.
I don't think that's the main difference. The main difference, and the reason most people don't like this scene, imo is that in the novel Geralt and Ciri knew each other beforehand and they had time to bond, and it's quite emotional because Geralt for a while thought Ciri was dead (Edit: and he thought it was his fault because he sent Ciri back to Cintra). All these are missing from the netflix show.
@@wan3839 actually I agree with you. I just hope they wrote it as part of a time constraint and not because they undervalue the emotion content of the original story.
Oh so now i know why the finale is titled "much more".
@@wan3839 Totally agree. That moment is very emotional in the book. But the show can't achieve that because they decided to separate Ciri from Geralt in Brokilon. So they didn't spent time together to bond Geralt to Ciri.
Can't wait for season 2.
2:28
Geralt : People linked by destiny will always find each other
Ciri: Who is Yennefer
lol 😂😂😂
This scene gives me chills 🥺❤️ can’t wait for season two
JUST ONCE I'd like to meet my destiny while walking through the woods in slow motion as epic music plays in the background. Is that too much to ask!?!
After the coronavirus, yeah you will can! ♥️
Calm down man
Idk why but I just imagined a Bear charging at you with an Orchestral backing xD
Ciri just ran into his arms without a single doubt, asking about a random name she heard in her dream without even asking if he was truly geralt of rivia. Its like she had already known him, eventhough she had never really seen nor met him before, like she knew he would know her and be the one she could trust, that he would be the answer to everything in her life. I just love this. The whole scene just lighted up, went from grey to warm yellow when geralt turned around and saw his destiny running toward him...
She saw him when he returned to Cintra to claim the Law of Surprise and Queen Calanthe tried to pass off her doppelganger to Geralt in order to fool him and keep Ciri close to her and away from Geralt. They briefly exchanged a glance on the streets when she was disguised as a commoner and recognized each other (which is how Geralt was able to realize that he was being duped).
She saw his face in a dream during the battle of Soden Hill too. That’s when she wakes up and leaves the cottage.
Her Grandmother told her to find him. As she was dying. Little Ciri listened.
I don't know why, but I find it frustrating that Geralt literally shows up right after Ciri had just left.
The Doctor Zhivago reference present in the books is made even more obvious here
Because she is Geralt's destiny.
Even in the game the scenes are same
I honestly ruined the tension of tu3e scene by skipping ahead when I got to that. I'm so used to shows dragging out bs like that to the Nth degree that I really thought Netflix was gonna do the same , and thought I'd save myself the cringe by moving ahead lol
Big mistake.
Yarpen "The girl. Yours?"
Geralt *"Mine"*
As a die-hard fan of both the books and the games I was upset that they changed a lot of stuff from the books but I still enjoyed the show. Also I think Henry Cavill is the perfect Geralt.
Yeah. but like most adaptions they can't always add certain scences. still a good show.
Its just the nature of this business. The two short stories are a combined 25 hours of reading. Which they had to condense into 8 hours. Nothing can be done about that
Jared F you guys chill with ur criticisms ! Chill and enjoy the show. Cheii😏
@@maleisac4727 oh i loved it. I've been trawling around UA-cam defending the show for hours. People are so negative it worries me that the show won't continue past s2
@@eogo13 same. Its a good show people need to stop being so picky. Like they should be greatful this book got turned into a show, some great books never get the chance or are completely fucked after they arr made into movies. So in my opinion it was rushed a bit yes but ultimatly still a good show to watch.
What the hella? With that ending right?
am I the only one obsessed with the soundtrack 1:10 - 2:30
I am too, trying to find a full version haha
@@farrbongaming plz tell me if you get it. Its the violin version of white wolf?
So good!
@@vizarn i dont think its released yet but im guessing they'll put all the soundtracks from the whole series online
@@gimmefood4585 yes I hope so. Lets keep in touch
I love how the first thing out of her mouth is "Who is Yennefer?" Like he's cheating on her XD
Lol I interpret totally opposite, linking to Geralt's previous speech that destined people always meet and hence the ciri question from Yen as if the two tbm had destined as well (mother and child)
Ciri is like his daughter...
Dude Ciri is a CHILD, that’s your interpretation of the line? Wow 🚩
Non-fans don’t know how strong Ciri is going to be in the future.
Wtf she's a potat
I wonder how people will react to her jumping to multiple timelines and universes.
@loafhero shit I forgot about that
@@stefanmakara373 I hope they kinda miss that part. Or at least tune it down a little. In was the worst part in the books....and that speaks a lot.
Just watched all the episodes..... im really enjoying it, loved it actually
From the moment geralt looked at ciri it was the paternal love a father looks when he sees his daughter.
my heart sank and rejoiced at the same time.
I've got a better one- "why is yennefer?"
I've got a much better one "when is yennefer?" 😎😎😎
Ive got one better " How is yennefer?"
Don’t forget “what is yennefer?”
Also, "where is Yennefer"
Ah, positive adoptive parent/child relationships. My number one weakness.
This scene was beautiful! I cried tears of happiness! I have not read the books but i have finished the Witcher 2 & 3. Now i need to read the books! this was a great show!
"I'm your destiny, Geralt! Say it. Say I'm your destiny."
"Oh, Ciri, you're much more than that."
Lord Brick I damn near cried when originally reading that
@@roryfehring1045 I did. She was in tears saying it too. And you could tell Geralt was worried about her. He thought she died when Dandelion told him that Cintra got overrun by nilfguarrd. 😢
Andrew Hunt I actually cried when he met Visenna
The music just hits right in the heart. Builds a sort of merciful and compassionate image of geralt. In my opionion a masculine one
search ciri meets geralt in witcher 3. that scene is 10000 times better than this one and i still cry to it this day.
