I don't agree, I've never really been a fan of the silly faces, I am a regular watcher because Doug is 100% thorough and filmed every aspect of the car, even ones that come out better in PR shots than in a sunglared iPhone camera. Ugly/laggy/confusing infotainment, fingerprintable surfaces, cheap plastic bits snuck into a luxury interior, back seat usablility, these are directly useful to the car buyer. I was a regular watcher until Doug started watering down his content, reviewing less than interesting cars just for his site, eliminating the Doug Score, and collaborating with insipid influencers. He should also stay out of the comments. Admonishing his fans for joining in as he drove like a maniac in his Carrera GT, then later buying a Countach because the Carrera GT really wasn't getting enough attention, that was just gross.

In the early 90s l wanted the four door Defender, l told a friend of mine and he said why don't l buy his Bronco. I was Godsmacked! A 1968 unmolested V-8 manual with 68k miles that he bought new. I still have it. I did change it from a 3 on the tree to a 6 speed, added vintage air and a bunch of insulation under the rubber mat. Like your Defender the Bronco has been involved in many wonderful adventures so l understand your sentiment and reason for selling it. As a Land Rover fan, I suppose I have a bias for it over the G Cabriolet but it sounds like because the Defender was a Doug car, the G Wagon was very much more of your personal pick for owning, and I'm glad to see at least one of these will continue to carry on the heart and soul of quirky cars that we remember best from this channel :)

This car should not be sold to a third party. It should be sold to the Cars and Bids company. And it should stay in the lobby for everyone to see when they enter the office!
But as long as you are 100% aware that you will regret it, go ahead. You can always try to buy it later for double the price lol

Doug says he doesn't want to be a collector. If you have more than 3 cars (and all three need to be vastly different ie: truck/suv, luxury sedan, 2 seats sports car) than you're a collector. With 8 Doug is a collector to the 2nd power.

I understand that people love the experience, but personally I would completely restore and restomod it. Keep the design 100% original because I love it and the open top untouched and redo everything else down to the bolt! An entire new rollcage would also be on the upgrade list for sure.
It would cost a fortune, but it would be a topless Classic Defender with incredible reliability and good enough handling and safety. That would be the experience I would look for when purchasing something like this.

Hearing your story just reminded me of my father. He had a 3 seat defender td5 and loved it. He’s a big Land Rover fan (his first car was a series 3 which he still owns). But since another son was coming and it didn’t seat 4, was uncomfortable and didn’t do well in the motorway, etc, my mother convinced him to sell it… He still cries whenever he sees one today.
Hope you never get to that phase.😂
(P.S.: here in Portugal they 3x their value since he sold it so now the best he could do was get a disco)

I agree with you, there's a time for everything, and also I believe that passing it on for someone else to enjoy as much as you did is the best thing to do.
Here's an idea: you should wrap the G wagon on bright yellow (or something fun) as an homage to this great, special car.

I drove Land Rovers for 29 years, 1964 to 1993. I loved the cars. Spent about eleven of those years selling Land Rover and Rover parts in San Diego. I've owned a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon, the JK, since April 2012. My Rubicon, which has just under 45,000 miles on it after twelve years of ownership, has been one-hundred percent reliable except for having had its navigation system replaced at almost 12,000 miles. All the Jeep's radiator and heater hoses are the originals. No oil leaks. The speedometer has never been replaced. No broken rear axle shafts. While I'll always have a warm spot---read hot spot---in my heart for well-cared for Land Rovers, my "season" of ownership long ago ended. I'm now seventy-six years old. From time to time I've thought about buying another well-cared for Land Rover, as I told my late wife some years ago, "Don't ever let me buy another Land Rover. It would destroy our marriage." Fortunately for me, the woman I've been married to since 2011 was my wife when I ordered the 2012 Rubicon. Debbie loves Jeeps just as much as I do. A Jeep is not quite a member of the family, but it is a damn close and very reliable friend. In this day and age, you should be able to easily get $125,000 minimum for your Land Rover. Perhaps even over $200,000.. Best of luck to you, Doug! Andy McKane, 5 April 2024, Maunaloa, Molokai, Hawaii.

I’m a big Land Rover enthusiast, always have been since I was a child, everything I know about the North American spec defenders is because of you, I was in my early to mid teens when you bought that Defender and I was always in awe of it whenever you uploaded a video with it, I even bought myself a 1968 series 2 short wheel base with a 3.5 rover V8 swapped into it so I get a lot of the reasons why you’re selling it and I’d unfortunately have to agree with your wife about the safety concerns especially with the kids even as a 20yro college student, I plan to keep my series 2 till I die since it was a childhood dream of mine, but the reasons you’ve stated in the video have always been things on my mind, I’d have to agree that things have a stage or time in your life and there isn’t really anything you can put above the safety of your own children, I always loved the AA yellow, I’ve been debating painting mine yellow as it’s been in its bare aluminium state since I got it from the previous owner and I was always a big fan of the movie WALL-E growing up and actively watching you with yours may help make a final decision with that, it’s certainly sad to see yours go, and I hope the G Cabrio brings you as much joy and memories, thanks for the videos of the Defender throughout the years, I’d love to see an update on partly owned L322!
