    6:22 Yes, the compressor at the end sounds nice, but full the signal from Stereo to mono. I do put it after the CAB, then all the FX like MODS, Reverbs, echos

    Lol at comments that argue comps have to be first or early in the chain. The LA studio model placed at the end literally does what most recording engineers do to compress the entire guitar signal coming into the board. Also a great tool to use live when FOH is lacking or newbie.

    I'd assume that the best way to start out with this unit----ordered one this past weekend/due here later this week-----would be to hook up a GTR to it, but also plug the unit into my computer as well and use the Line 6 website, as you did in this video. I've seen some vids where they just "select options" and then don't know how they will sound. I play worship music, so it's also why I bought this Basic Line 6 product, also ON SALE----haha, as I don't need or use many FX, just mostly delay, reverb, some ambient swells, and compressor, with minimal overdrive. I've looked at worship tutorials presets that they sell. Thanks for the VID. I've owned a BOSS ME-70 for 11 yrs, but it's acting up! Hence, why I did this purchase.

    On the compressor issue, you have to use a studio grade compressor (LA-2, LA studio) it will accept a hotter input signal without loosing volume or quality of the signal.

      Unless you have a treble bleed mod done to your every guitar, rolling down the volume will also make the sound darker. In some cases that could be desireable, but most prefer their tone to remain as bright as on full volume.

      My recommendation is to search for tone presets. They cost few bucks and in my experience most of them have been great with dedicated IR's that take the tones to the next level. Based on quick search ChopTones seems to have bunch of preset packs with sound examples on their site. Give those a look.

      @CatPickStudios  Рік тому

      Yeah with POD GO there's limits to it's processing power and how many things you can have in the effects blocks. If you want to have more versatility on what kind of signal chains you can create and don't need that many footswitches, HX Stomp is the device to get.

    i would NOT recommend placing the compressor after the amp. I did a test. Although it may sound a little louder, if you have another effects before the amp, such as distortion, it removes the distorted sound. From my experience placing the compressor before both the amp and a distortion block works best.

    • @CatPickStudios
      @CatPickStudios  2 роки тому +5

      Hmm I remember running into this issue in my initial tests. I think there was some sort of bug with one or two compressors that caused the issue you're describing. Based on my tests with the LA Studio Comp it works exactly as I describe in the video giving you a more touch sensitive feel when playing.

    So buying impulse reponses is silly because of how many options there are you can get any sound you want. Quite literally. Dont waste money on IRs. Sure if you dont have the time to make a preset or research what equipment a certain band uses for certainsongs or whatever then buy a preset pack. But making the presets is most of the fun itll help you learn the unit and different tones.

    • @CatPickStudios
      @CatPickStudios  3 місяці тому

      I get what you are trying to say, but here's my counter-argument: Investing in good impulse responses will get you better tones faster. The IR works as a 'filter' to your overall sound and while you can do a lot to compensate the frequencies of the stock cabinet, getting a well made IR will get you there faster and withouth eating up any extra signal blocks in your chain.
      Why use pedals, EQ's and such when you can do the same with an IR using just one block in your signal chain?

  • @AndrewStonerock

    Buying presets is a can of worms that I would not suggest people who aren't familiar with tweaking presets open. It does not matter who made the preset, you will have to tweak and make changes. That is fact, sorry not sorry. Also, unless the presets you are buying come with a custom IR, then they probably aren't worth buying. Every one and their grandma is making presets with stock cabs and selling them. It is insane how many there are that do not sound good. This is all opinion anyways, not like it matters, but there we go.

    • @CatPickStudios
      @CatPickStudios  2 роки тому

      Well I guess I have only bought good presets since lot of them have been mix/live ready and I've only tweaked things like the amount of gain or delay for example. Though all of those have had custom IR's bundled with them. I wonder if what you mentioned will become more frequent (selling presets with stock cabs) now that the Helix range (minus POD GO as of typing) got the major update that also improved the stock cabs.

    • @wattebol
      @wattebol 8 місяців тому

      My reaction is a little late but I agree 100%. In my opinion people often forget that tone is a result of many factors from which some of them can not be bought. And another thing people tend to overlook: the instrument that is used is a very important component and there are so many types and variations. You think the preset that sounds fantastic when played by a pro with a very expensive, highly modified, unique guitar will sound equally great when you use it with your modest guitar and capacities? Sure. Why not create your own great sound? It is not that difficult. I am an average player but I have done just that so why can't you? There so many videos with people selling there patches, apparently it is big business because there are many people too lazy to do it themselves.
