Great videos! I love seeing all these machines being repaired. I have a lot of sony gear that is still working for the most part, thankfully. I had to do some repairs like swapping out caps and replacing belts or lubricating parts on Walkmans, microcassette, video8 tv/vcr combos, betacam sp, beta and super beta hifi as well as non sony gear like laserdisc and selectavision among others!
I have really been enjoying these repair videos you are making. You definitely have a strong understanding of electronic repair and make it look very easy. All of this focus on video 8 decks made me remember I still have a Sony EV-C200 with very low hours on it. Thanks for making the videos, I look forward to them.
Have you repaired a Sony CDP-CX400? If it is making a loud running machine loud noise when turned on any suggestions? Are the numerous repair bands they sell on Amazon for replacement all the same or should I look for particular ones? Thank you! Great videos!
Very neat little unit :-D I don't think they could of put much more in such a small case, but it's not horrible to service eather. Yep the mode switch would of played up later, all of them do. Ok they could of crunched up the power supply a bit, or use a crap noise creating switchmode . Linear are not very efficent but they don't produce r.f like switchmodes do.
I have one of these that is stuck at LP playback, even with my Handycam tapes that were recorded in SP. It reminds me of a similar problem I had with a crappy Funai combo deck that would start cutting out a quarter of the way through since it’d set to a slower speed than normal that also had reported problems regarding its own mode switch; which leads me to believe that could possibly be the problem. Would like to know whether if you also thought so, considering your expertise, before disassembling the unit and trying for myself
Will the mode switch cause the load eject mechanism to stop working? My GV-9's use the same tape mech as in this video. They are both fine atm but I have a 3rd unit that was working but one day decided it would not eject the tape anymore.
The ccdvx1 was then pal version. In North America it was the vx3. The v5000 was a large shoulder mounted camera. A single chip ccd camera with a good tape transport, AFM stereo and pcm stereo. The pcm tracks could be dubbed after the fact. The v5000 also had a time base corrector. The v5000 was affected by capacitor cancer and i changed about 80 of them in the old one I had when I sold it. The vx3 on the other hand was a 3ccd handycam. The vx3 had a superior picture. Closer to broadcast quality and a 12x lens whereas the v5000 was 8x. It had afm stereo only, and featured time code encoding for frame accurate editing when used with an evs7000 or evs5000 editor. The v5000 had no time code. So to answer your question the vx3 was a better camera. I have a friend that has one. Hoping he will donate it as he hasn't used it in years.
@@12voltvids I really appreciate your prompt reply, I have the ccd vx1 camera and I have changed all the capacitors on the video boards audio video works again fine the only thing I have not changed yet are two dc converters that have capacitors with leaks inside who want a change soon because they affect battery life! but i'm interested because i love these cameras to buy the V5000 from ebay I just have to replace all the capacitors and I see that there is a mess of many cables in the V5000 camera

@@12voltvids The good thing about this camera EVW-300 is that the boards come and go easily so you can change the capacitors although it will be too much I think the only thing is to find new batteries because it takes large batteries

I'm a bit confused about the drum head count. As far as I know (at least for vhs) there are two pairs of heads for different tape recording speeds, SP and LP respectively. Some other VCRs uses an additional pair for the FM HiFi audio. And last but not least, some manufacturers like sharp advertise 7 head machines which makes me wonder what the 7nth head do. 🤔 The stills on that little machine are awesome. It looks mostly like as it have a digital frame buffer!
No digital. It is a 3 head. Normal VCR has 2 heads. 1 for the a field and another for the b field. A 3 head has a normal a field head and the b field has a second a field next to it. For slow Mo and still they display both a fields. VHS used either 2 or 4 video heads. 2 for ep and 2 for sp. VHS hifi has 2 additional AFM heads. 8mm and beta record the audio with the same heads. (NTSC) Some machines have flying erase. All 8mm does. So if I count that, then this has 4. VHS hifi with flying erase has 7. 4 video, 2 audio and flying erase. Mistubishi hsu82 has 10! 4 video, 2 audio, 2 piezoelectric effect heads and 2 flying erase.
