- In this episode of TFBTV, James Reeves reviews the Beretta 92X Compact. This is a smaller and modernized version of the famous Beretta 92, with more features, better ergonomics, and maybe a better trigger? The venerated old-school Beretta 92 was good enough for John McClane and Martin Riggs in the 1980s, but does the Beretta 92X evolution make it a contender in 2020? And would James carry it? All that and more today on TFBTV.

The problem with carrying any 92 series pistol is that most people try to use some sort of holster to conceal them, when by design they're meant to be taped to your back between the shoulder blades.
They're also not meant to be used against perps but they're exclusively used against terrorists/robbers.
been tellin people for years.
Yeah that would entail shaving the back. No thanks. Lol
And barefoot.
@@SteelHex that's the most important part!! Are you people not handling your firearms properly?..Freaking posers
MecGar now makes 15 round magazines for the compact. The lack of capacity is now a moot point.
At the price point it should already come with 15 round mags. Come on Beretta, you can do better than that.
@@digitalshooter2905 Your wish is granted. They now come with 15 round mags.
Edit: I was wrong, only the RDO version comes with 15 round mags but I'm sure they'll update the others
Can't wait 50 years so I can argue with generation Q about how the M9 served through decades of cheesy buddy-cop films.
The 92 is to Gen X what the 1911 is to boomers.
When all the kids have California compliant laser guns, I'll be in my rocking chair talking about how we used to bust caps with our M9s.
@@Matt_The_Hugenot Funny I served from 86-89 as an MP in Germany and never saw a Beretta that wasn’t privately owned by friends. Carried a 45 vintage Remington Rand 1911 A1 for my entire time in service. Carried the Beretta Centurion as a civilian officer from 2004-12 when we transitioned from the 92 to the SIG 229. @@wavular At least High Life has a champagne glass on their cans to dress it up.
I carried a 92 Centurion for 8 years as a police officer, it never jammed through 10,000 documented rounds, the only thing that ever went wrong was a cracked grip and one of the trijjicon rear sight lamps went out. I would never turn one down, especially a G or D model. For cc the compact slide is bulky but that just makes holster and belt choice more critical.
In case you’re looking for a G model, Beretta now sells a G conversion kit for about $50. You can convert any FS slide without sending it to a gunsmith. You can also take out the sear and drop in a D hammer spring to make it DAO, but of course you’d still be missing the slick slide of the D model.
@@UNKNOWN3554 I already did the conversion on my 92 FS, took like 15 minutes total.
I owned 2 96D police specials in 40. The 1st, 1997 was a surplus unused from PA Fish Commission 🐟. Yes that is a real sworn LE agency. The pistol had trijicon night sights & Robar NP3 coating, 3 NP3 magazines. I got a different custom 96D in 2007 but rarely used it. The 92F 9mm was okay but the thick grip, alloy frame & slide safety. For the record, my 1997 96D fired 2000+ .40 factory rounds with 0 problems.

😂😂 how many rounds did you fire at one time? When ever I hear cops talk about their duty weapon I laugh. “Never failed me”. Same shit fudds say about the 1911. Yea it’s reliable when using FMJ and not using more than 40 rounds a range session.
Don’t feel bad, if you look closely Jet Li cheated with the slide lever already in the pull-apart position!
I want to see you pull of the slide with the mag still in!
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department filed down the take down lever so it was harder to grab after that movie came out, even though it can't be done with the mag in.
@@IggsBoson Maybe it's because I'm rolling with a 92S and not a 92SF/92X/M9 - but I just double checked the claim about the magazine stopping it from happening. I loaded up snapcaps, and it came off with the mag still in the gun. Even if the mag jammed it up, it could still slid forward rendering the handgun unusable until resolved.
Granted, you still have to push the button and rotate the lever to have it come off. While difficult, I could see it happening during a fumble fight.
@@IggsBoson ours were shaved from beretta as part of the contract. Apparently they had some left over from the federal prison contract.

*Racks 1911 slide*
I dont get this guy's hate for the 1911 . I've owned and shot 1911s for years and haven't had the reliability issues he talks about .
Especially with today's newer 1911s . That being said I enjoy watching this channel . But do I think 9mm is better than .45
No and do I think Glock is better than 1911 not necessarily .
There are pros and cons to both.
As far as the 92x goes it's a decent gun but not for concealed carry it's just to bulky for my taste it's worse than the Glock 19 . Only full size Glock I like to carry is the G48 . And what makes the 48 better than the others to me is its the same size
as a 1911 .
Hoosier Nation Their way heavier than a Glock. They have half the capacity of a Glock (unless we’re talking $3,000+ 2011’s and even then, I’d rather a Glock) and they definitely are nowhere near as reliable. My dads a 1911 collector. He doesn’t have STI’s or anything but has pretty decent ones, Colt Gold Cups and Kimbers out of their custom shop and whatnot. I’ve seen all of them malfunction. Although not often, I’ve seen it first hand. You know what I’ve never seen fail once? Any of my Glocks. None of them has ever failed. Not even once. Out of thousands and thousands of rounds. Not one failure. And when it comes to a carry gun, reliability is the utmost importance over everything. Even if a gun is 0.0001% more reliable than the other gun, the more reliable one is better for carry regardless of the other guns features. And comparing a 1911 to a Glock, reliability isn’t the only department it blows the 1911 away in. Weight and most importantly magazine capacity. All things being said I still think a 1911 is an amazing range gun. But you’d be stupid to trust your life to one over a Glock. Especially if you’re talking about fighting in a messy environment. If that 1911 gets a smidge of mud on it or if you forgot to douse it with oil that day, it’s gonna be a bolt action. A Glock? You can run that dry and dirty through thousands of rounds without a single drop of oil.
Hoosier Nation His hate isn’t so much directed at the 1911 as it is the 1911 fanboys who scoff at smaller calibers that weigh a reasonable amount and go bang every time you pull the trigger.
@@TheLegalShenanigans every gun has fan boys, The most vocal and opinionated are Glock fans followed by 1911, Hint most modern pistols are pretty good. With a few notable exceptions of course.
@@Mr_Glock19 You really need to get some training, Im pretty sure you wouldnt tell Clint Smith or Larry Vickers that their 1911 are shit(They carry 1911 every day, its in their videos). The fact is there is no malfunction free handgun if you train hard enough.

I had a 92fs. Great pistol. Too heavy for my personal taste to carry concealed, but for the glovebox and under the counter at the family business it was my 1st choice. To be fair, when I owned that one, the only other high cap handgun in rotation was a 1st gen Glock that was a jam o matic, and one of the old s&w wonder nines. Neither were even close to that beretta. Today? There are a lot of good options out there...

If magazine capacity is your concern I would suggest you look at a 92x Centurion. The only difference is that the grip is roughly 1/4 inch longer. That gets you 17 rounds vs 13. 18 with a Mec-Gar mag. If you compare the Compact to the Cent, the Cent makes way more sense.
With the new RDO version they bumped it up to 18 in the mag!
Or reload faster.

Thank you for making these firearm videos and staying out of the political arena, there's enough people doing that. I'm honestly tired of it, so you keep on keepin on. Thank you
I bought this exact pistol, the 92X Compact with no rail. What put me over the line was an excellent short-term price for LE officers of only $525. I haven't regretted it one bit. While I tend to carry a Glock 19 or a Shield most often, when I teach new shooters, they consistently find it easier to turn in a good performance with the heavier gun than with a lighter striker -fired pistol. For many of them, the ability to hide the gun isn't their first consideration, and many just feel more confident with the Beretta. That is probably why the military liked the B.I.B (Big Italian Bitch) for soldiers who weren't going to get a lot of pistol training. I find it neck and neck with my SIG P226 in terms of being one of the easiest service pistols to shoot for a new person. Also, whatever they have done to the 92X grip makes it easier for more people to get their hand around it. The trigger on my 92A1 is too long for me to really do well with, but on the 92X with either grip installed, it is just fine. And, like our President, I would say that I'm a "short fingered vulgarian".
I stumbled onto something I like to do with Compact. I happened to have in my stash 3 Beretta factory 17 round magazines for the full-sized 92. Of course they work just fine in the Compact, although they stick out of the bottom. But I slipped X-grip adapters over each one, and in the Compact, they look and feel great. I dig the balance of the Compact that way, and it ends up taking on the dimensions of a slightly chubby LW Commander that happens to hold 18 rounds. It reminds me of the old Centurion I used to carry. What's not to like? I'd say if you can find one at a good price, grab it.
92x compact with rail, g model, bobbed hammer, m9a3 front night sight, MecGar-15rd mags, Wilson combat-recoil buffer, W.C.-12lb hammer spring and trigger bar, Wolf-trigger spring conversion. One of the best and most enjoyable pistols I have ever shot.

@Patrick Bateman Ok. I've been trying real hard but I don''t get it?
@@HWG-wm8ld Jesus, relax dude
The Beretta is a pretty good handgun. People on the military have to remember that most of those have been shot to the point of smooth bore. Not to mention mishandled and abused.
The barrels get changed pretty often in the military because the falling locking blocks break way faster than the barrels wear out.
@@Cannibal_Actual Maybe I'm missing something, but usually most people just replace the locking block if it cracks and not the entire barrel assembly. But, those are individuals and not military armorers. I couldn't find the direct quote from beretta, but some people have said that Beretta expects a lifespan of 22000 rounds in a locking block before cracking. One again, that could be someone throwing out numbers. So take that with a grain of salt.
Langdon Tactical has a sweet "trigger job in a bag" and new trigger bar that gets rid of the pretravel in SA making the reset right to the wall, think PPQ.
Glad to hear you mention the pros & cons of this particular Beretta because we all know there is no perfect handgun. I have one as well and it’s one of my favorite guns. I wouldn’t want him to review it because all he would do is rip on it; 1. It isn’t a Glock. 2. It it is built in German and isn’t built in Austria/USA like a Glock. 3. Slightly heavier than Glock. 4. Slightly higher bore than glock. 5. Different trigger than a Glock (it’s much better). 6. Different grip angle than the Glock (it better). 7. Different ergos than a Glock (it’s better). 8. Different (better) grip than the Glock. 9. Mag release is different than a Glock (paddles). Did I mention, it isn’t a Glock, so he is going to hate it!!!
I have no idea why Walther doesn’t seem to market very well. The p99 and PPQ are as good as any of the Glocks or other polymer guns, but they don’t know how to market and that effects the fan boy status.

The 92X is actually a superb gun out of the box. There are a number of aftermarket parts that stratospherically improve the go pedal & the gun. It’s a very forgiving pistol.

THANK YOU! I've searched high and low for an ACTUAL measurement of the 92X grip width since I haven't found one locally.
Thumbs WAY UP. Great review. I have many Beretta 92's & PX4's. Recently got a PX4 Type "C" (Constant trigger) in 9mm. This gun doesn't have.a decocker/safey lever. It's DA ONLY with a bobbed hammer. LOVE IT! Would make a GREAT review! Want tnis 92X Compact for belt carry.
Best Regards from Phx., Az.

[Answered Question] What the hec is the Saco (3:45) in the reliability table? I can't find anything of it other than an m60.
Springfield Arms Company
Saco Defense, the then-importer of the Sig P226.
90% sure it's the P226. It narrowly lost to the M9 because of cost
Its the SIG 226.
The more you know. Thanks guys.
Bought a 92X G model. Sent to Langdon Tactical. Great da/sa trigger. Long pull, but very smooth. Nice shooter. Fits my hand very well. LTT 92. Is a great gun
James, What a funny coincidence! I just bought a Beretta 92 compact L just yesterday!!!😁
It still reliable gun, finish every job that man can’t do
Looks to be almost exactly the same size as the surplus M1951 I recently acquired.
Another most excellent review. If I had your waistline, I'd buy bigger pants, a Milt Sparks IWB, and carry this bad boy. The Force is strong with Beretta.
I went with the centurion, which is basically a full size gun. The D spring is standard on these vs the OG so it’s a bit smoother. The LTT trigger will go in probably, but it’s a smooth shooter. It quickly became my most accurate and shootable gun. Too big to
Carry for me, but it’s the home defense gun. Couldn’t find the compact, great review, I think you did a good job on hitting the high points and accurate on the downsides. These are excellent guns and small improvements beretta made I think were perfect.
Should mention I snagged mine for $600
"Does it, a good carry gun, make? " 😂😂😂
Come for the guns, stay for the booty shorts
That describes america way too well 😂
I cum for both.
Came for the guns, also for the shorts.
Happy Trails Hanz!
James is such a smooth talker that im willing to overlook his wardrobe.
@6:49 what?! mine didn't come with the magwell vacuum that hoovers up the next mag directly from your belt :(
I'll stick with my ex police modded beretta 92D. like the guy who still drives a 1993 Toyota celica. just cause😎
In that case I drive a t55, Bulgarian makarov that doesn't give a shit, goes banv everytime
I had 2 96Ds in 40. 1997, 3+ yr then 2007, 🚔 special. Both were new, unused. I added a stainless extended barrel to the Beretta 96D. I was in a "Nash Bridges" phase. 🚔 lol...
I love my Baretta 92 - I carry it from 6:00 till 23:00 7 days a week. This is my gun and I understand it so well. I know there is plenty wonderful guns BUT Baretta is my gun.
Greetings from South Africa.
Thanks, you made me want it.
When John Wick carries and Beretta, I’ll get one. You know what he also carried James.... A 1911.
@@bulabroha nope. Not a joke at all. Because everything on the Internet is a fact.
Beretta’s are the sexiest 9mm handguns ever made, change my mind.
@@HWG-wm8ld yea, that's why he specified that he believed it is the ''sexiest'' 9mm HANDGUN ever made.....he never said it was the sexiest ONE THING ever created, even above beautiful women....and the term ''sexy'' isn't used literally. At least I hope/assume it wasn't 🤷♂️
Why would i try lol you are correct sir
@@HWG-wm8ld well we all have our own opinions. For instance i think you are a guy with a small pp trying to compensate by acting hard on the internet lol.
Wrong
@@DinoNucci he said change his mind lol
I have a 92 compact and it is my edc . i like it a lot. it has a de cocker but i keep it in go mode . it is very accurate and you can put higher capacity mags in them .
What I love from these guns is the sound when cocking....ahhh, nice....
If you are older it is great for appendix carry. Looks like a hernia
"Prima noctis." Lol! Make sure you use plenty of CLP. Water based lube makes a great ablative. For cans. Dont ask me how I know. Or do!
I picked up a 92X today. 625 out the door and they discounted a box of hydrashok 9mm. I love it.
Excellent review. I really want a 3032 because it is actually concealable.
Bet those safety glasses never get stolen. 🥽 😆
James aging gracefully I see.
yeah :(
@@tfbtv keyword "gracefully"
I was looking up reviews for the G26, G43 and P365 for a new concealed carry.. somehow I ended up here, now I want a Beretta 92x.
Only handgun i could hit the side of a barn with, I’m personally quite happy with it overall but I tote the full size. For some reason it was cheaper than the compact or centurion version. Good review 👍
