I am 71. I saw Cream. The Yardbirds 3x. The Who 4x. Hendrix 5x. Jeff Beck many times. Blue Cheer. All in 1967/1968. Led Zep 5 x in 1969. Attended all 3 days of Woodstock. I have seen Meshuggah 2 times: 2013 and 2017. As great as all those bands of the 60s were, Meshuggah makes them *all* sound small. It took me a while to get into the vocals. But now I realize that Jens is part of the sound, like another instrument. I mean, is he really supposed to "sing" inside that Insane Tsunami of Sound? No. He is the right choice for The Greatest Heavy Band Ever. In fact, they created a genre containing one member. The genre is the band that calls itself Meshuggah.
How fun was Woodstock? Also, that’s cool you grew to appreciate the vocals in Meshuggah. Exactly right...just another part of the overall massive sound. Rock on 🤘
Yup, not a full show but saw them at a festival. Was never really a fan of them but seeing them live definitely formed a little soft spot for them. If its on your bucket list, then it will be an experience like no other.
***** To be fair they still do play some pretty complex stuff sometimes. Whatever the case, they're basically sorcerers in the technical department. And the songs are all great.
Matt Allen Heavy is usually used to describe something of great weight. However in this context the heaviness of a song is determined by how many people break their neck from headbanging uncontrollably.
Saeedpoppa , you are correct. I just about tore my head of listening to this album. Soooooo good. This band has taken groove into a whole new dimension. Literally.
The Demiurge was a gnostic invention before the advent of Christianity or Descartes that described the all powerful creator as unknowable beyond the comprehension of men, and thus it would be unknowable if it was malevolent and evil. Hail.
+Dom Brazzale word up man. I spend a lot of my time just listening to meshuggah and reading their lyrics while I hear the songs. its fucking incredible!! way beyond any other band and really any literature/philosophy I have ever read. some people say tool is the most enlightened and enlightening music there is, but they have obviously never listened to meshuggah
+Matt Allen Check 96' Fredrik Thordenthal's Special Defects, there are a couple of versions but theres one in spottily 40+mins, i could argue months, but treat yourself
wow, thanks for that!! he is a true visionary, can't believe that was released as far back as 1996!! i wonder what music being made today is this forward thinking?!!
Matt Allen he announced a 2nd in near future. Also Necrophagist Epitaph is 96 also i belive, nasty as well, haven't seen that level in 2 whole decades.
ThatMeansHesMad im going to speak a bit scientifically here if u dont mind... Well sound actually cannot travel in space because most of it is void which means that there is no air.. no air means no sound becase there are no waves... im not a nerd hehe ^_^
The crowd reminds me of a bunch of senior citizen Meshuggah fans that have spent way too many years moshing and just want to have a nice chill Meshuggah set.
the reptile self that want to unleash its mindless power on the world like a greast beast, the lump in your chest that is transformed into fire and becomes the very reason to BREATHE again. meditation, anger and serenity all combined. being stripped of ego and pouring everything about yourself into the great well of emotional cleansing.
I always wonder what non instrument vocalists do during long instrumental parts like this song has. Well, Jens makes it look pretty good. He makes standing in one spot look good.
They are half cheating in that the guitars are being recorded via the digital feed and not from the amps (not sure about vocals) and not the drums. Even so is amazing!
It's not cheating at all. They'll have a DI box with a splitter in it, one input to their amplification, one input to their desk so that the desk can isolate their instruments/vocal input and have a nice clear recording without audience noise, and the amps can do their thing.
Haha thats pretty usual for professional bands today. Periphery even uses a timecode to change the guitar sound settings. And not even this is cheating, its just a better technique
Holy fuck, this is literally the best live performance I've ever heard, it sounds so close to the record!!! fuck I need to see these guys, if I was drunk I would be fucking shit up in that pit right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's funny, everyone actually misses a crucial part of the opening riff when they cover this song. If you notice there is a slide up on the higher notes on the down beats before going to the low f. Everyone always misses this part of the riff. It gives it more punch.
MrJavierderk Get on ebay bro, plenty of places shipping worldwide. I would upload more but I dont really want to take away from the bands potential earning.
My favourite live clips of meshuggah are of them outdoors at some festival from the bonus DVD that came with nothing remastered. This is still awesome but it just looks the same as the alive DVD footage, a bit too dark or something I don't know.
I actually feel Meshuggah looks best in a dark setting, what with the epic light show and all. I also like the download 2005 live dvd (the one you mentioned), but it's only three songs, and though I do like really hearing the bass for a change, it's mixed way to loud in that dvd.
+Mechanical_Jake It's not so much the moshing and going insane type of music, but the kind where you stare in utter amazement and just enjoy the fuck out of it your own way.
Robert Fuentes And I find that when I see meshuggah I am in awe of how good they are live which results in me just standing there, as most other people do also.
Also too, a lot of people don't know how to move to this unless you are a fan or understand the concept of their poly-rhythms well. Generally there is causally a snare part or cymbal part that can be a guide. I remember seeing them at the one Ozzfest in early 2000's I was one of the 3 people in the audience moving, yelling and cheering in the crowd. I'll never forget that show.

This comment is fucking poetry!
The light guy!!
Let's smoke a Marley together!
The 80s had hard rock. . . The 2010s had meshuggah
Sometimes I’m jealous of Meshuggah. They get to be in Meshuggah.
Evan S i feel u
Sometimes I'm jealous of the crowd....they get to be at the show 🥺🥺
Meshuggah will never get to see Meshuggah live. That’s pain.
I can only imagine the vibration in your chest cavity seeing this live
Leper Stepper it's insane
Connor Shatz Have you seen them live? It's on my bucket list
Yup, not a full show but saw them at a festival. Was never really a fan of them but seeing them live definitely formed a little soft spot for them. If its on your bucket list, then it will be an experience like no other.
It's fuckin life changing
It might as well be listening to the album seeing them live. They're so precise and massive sounding.
I can see RANDY BLYTHE In the side at 3:00.. that is amazing. he was enjoying the set
Nice spot. You have good eyes, lol
+Fitz Torralba Yeah man, though how could ever not enjoy a meshuggah set? :)
I Love the shot at 3:34 you can see them grooving and banging on the right of the stage
+molochz nice edge man
Can you see me right now? Because that's some god damn vision you've got there!
Holy shit, I've never seen a live video that sounded nearly this close to the studio version.
+Evan Blake That's Meshuggah for you
***** To be fair they still do play some pretty complex stuff sometimes. Whatever the case, they're basically sorcerers in the technical department. And the songs are all great.
***** Right. When you talk about the riffs being simple, which parts of the songs are you describing?
***** Mmm.
having 4 notes has nothing to do with it being simple. Its all about the time signatures. Thats what makes Meshuggah so complex.
This is the soundtrack to the surface of the sun.
Pure fire 🤘
Yeah. Indescribably hot.
Meshuggah is one of the tightest band on stage i have ever seen!!...Kidman is a beast live!
Fuck, this may the heaviest song ever written or performed.
what does heavy mean anyway?
Matt Allen Heavy is usually used to describe something of great weight. However in this context the heaviness of a song is determined by how many people break their neck from headbanging uncontrollably.
Saeedpoppa , you are correct. I just about tore my head of listening to this album. Soooooo good. This band has taken groove into a whole new dimension. Literally.
Saeedpoppa I'd like to add to your definition that this song makes you feel like your balls are getting heavier
Nathaniel Prince Coulter I´m happy for you! First encounter?
Geez the crowd is still here. HOW DO YOU NOT MOVE TO THIS SONG?
This fucking song...so fucking gritty and groovy at the same time .
The Demiurge was a gnostic invention before the advent of Christianity or Descartes that described the all powerful creator as unknowable beyond the comprehension of men, and thus it would be unknowable if it was malevolent and evil. Hail.
Dom Brazzale Can't believe amongst all these Meshuggah "fans" no one gave a shit about your comment. Cheers for delving deeper =)
***** Yeah, Meshuggah is so much deeper than even the biggest fans know.
+Dom Brazzale word up man. That's insanely badass but intimidating, just like Jens
It'a incredible how they sound exactly like in the record
With the Axe Fx isn't hard to sound as good as on the album :P
+Huba Kertesz Pretty hard. Axe Fx doesn't make performing easier.

It’s so cool to see Randy Blythe enjoying their set! \m/
where?

Thanks Man, that's awesome 🙏🏻
@@turdferguson974 all good Brother 🙏🙏
WTF i cannot believe they can pull this off with such perfection considering its a LIVE performance this is pure Art.
They say sound cannot travel in outer space...
They were wrong.

FUCK CRAIG'S GLOVES Meshuggah is an exception
One of the greatest live performances I've ever seen
I really love the quality of their lives. No fuck ups, pure performance with the same quality as the studio version.
First Robb Flynn, and now Haake is rocking with socks. I have a feeling socks are gonna be the next pioneering fashion in metal.
Meshuggah proves the existence of something heavier than 1 atmospheric pressure naturally occurring at sea level. Meshuggah = 10 ATM
and that children, is how it is done!
And that, patronising bastard, is how to be patronising
Nah..he got it about right.
fredo gumbo what a pitty
jorem88 It certainly is a pity.
3:28 I feel like headbanging so hard I could break both my neck and my spine! Holy shit!
Demiurge is so fuckin good.
i've seen them last year on graspop, man it was one of the best performance i have ever witnessed xd
Jeroen Reyns Been there too, front row, directly in front of the bass player, and caught his pick! :3 That was some unbelievably powerful performance!
fuckin' amazing voice 🎤🎵😲
