Unfortunately here in the UK we are in Lockdown again so thought i would use this time to take another look at the TOP 5 Cheap RC's list and make a couple of changes for 2021! 😏 Does the 144001 still deserve the no 1 spot? I think it does. The 124019 and 124018 are great and the extra wheelbase makes them very stable especially at speed but can you justify the extra cost? Let me know if you would change anything about this list. Cheers guys and see you on the next one!
I think I would go with #1-124019,#2-144001, #3-124018, and the reason for 144001 being #2 instead of #3 is because of the shorter wheel base, and price. The 124018 could be #1 if your preference is more off road driving. Have you found the 124019/18 for a 100? I got 3 batteries, but paid 150.00+
Yo I am a Traxxas guy! But got tired of spending thousands of dollars for RC’s I play with like 10 times a year. So I sold everything. Then I wanted something cheap just to have a little fun with. And damn!!!! The DF Models Z06 Evolution is freaking crazy for less than $100!!!!!! Made by Wltoys. It is 4 wheel drive, 60mph, hella durable, cheap replacement parts! I was freaking amazed by this thing. Same amount of fun as the $500 traxxas! Plus you can up the lipo and go even faster! This is the car of the decade for me 😆.
Got myself the 124019 and my nephew the hbx 16889, so i got to test 'em both. The 124019 is a real rocket, feels heavy. The hbx is a bit slower, but it is so much fun in the grass/dirt. It does seem to fall over a lot though :D. The 16889 is better for some offroading fun and the 124019 is better for speeding and showing off.
Love this channel so much! Great stuff mate. I think there are so many decent options out there at the entry/budget end of the RC market. I think a lot of RC snobs are so anti budget RC cars but there is so much to like about them....and upgrading them is fun!! Also it is a great start point for so many people to start out in the hobby, and when they break it’s normally easy and cheap to fix!
Thanks mate! There are many RC snobs about i have noticed that recently. Not everyone wants to spend a fortune on one of the bigger brands and these cheap budget RC's are an ideal way for someone to get into the RC hobby and move on to the bigger more expensive brands later on. They may not be the RC enthusiasts first choice but for a beginner you really cant go wrong with any of the 5 mentioned!
I just purchased the 16889 after reviews from this channel and a few others. Really enjoying your content. Any UK shops have spares for these RC's? I should have got the oil shocks on the car order! Hindsight hey :(
Yey! I bought the N1 pick from a store when it was 50% off! As soon when I saw the discount price and that it went 60kph I bought it right then and there. Now because I live In northern Europe the normal price was 190€ (not cheap) but with the discount it was so worth it and when I saw this video i feel even luckyer. Its currently my fastest Car
Bought my wife a 124019 since I had the 124017 v2 and shes new to rc first run was perfect didnt over heat i had greased the diffs so they were wonderfully quiet and no slippage ran it til the battery died the 2s lipo it came with next day she wanted to run it I put the battery in and nothing esc wouldnt power on at all borrowed my daughters 144001 and just hooked it up and it went back to working so sometimes these esc can just die for no reason it's a 15$ fix so I wasnt stressedbut wife tripped a little thinking I was going to be mad at her if course I was not I explained this is a hobby and nothing is perfect I break them left right and center it's all part of the fun
Fantastic video and now I'm definitely considering buying one of those in the #1 spot, thanks! I do have to say that I hate background music in a video like this with people talking, it's really awful.
Few things to add to the hbx. That dam truck is indestructible. It's light. It's quick. But 22-24mph is really a sweat spot to where it's fast, but not too fast that any crash will rek it. Stock, it beats out all the wltoys imo with just 20min runtime alone versus 7 on the wltoys. I own the wltoys and it's upgraded to brushless. Fun buggy, but not a basher.
N°1 YEEEESSSSS !!! Brushless 144001 with reinforced CNC full transmission (8€) is monster durable and best weight/power ration I ever saw ! Just bought a 1/8 truggy and it even makes me love more my harem of 144. Next mod is fiber carbon chassis and fiber carbon arms on a small brushless to make it kevin proof. 144001 for ever ! Have you seen the Kevin test smashing on concrete his RC cars including wltoy / traxass Xmax / arma stuff ? Everything broke except the WLtoy car that twisted and bounced. ua-cam.com/video/P3DAdSfvP4w/v-deo.html Another thing interesting: Testing WD40 on 144001 arms and plastic cups because it looks very promising: ua-cam.com/video/700U2aYQuM4/v-deo.html
You know i wouldn't let you down!! The 144001 is still king! Great buggy at a great price and unbeatable even in 2021!! I know you love them!! I will check those videos out 👍😎
I've been trying to figure out which RCs to get for my nieces and nephews; I need to make sure that one isn't faster than the other! Almost bought a couple of the FTX Tracer Truggy and Trucks, now I'm looking at the 144001. Just a bit worried it might be too fast. What would you get for 4 to 9 year olds?
Hello, I am new to the rc world! I would like to buy a car that goes on mud, small stones and 40-50 kmh road, that the package includes a battery, charger and that the car is reliable. Is it possible to buy it for $ 100? Something like wltoys 124018? Thanks in advance for the help. Great videos!

I've been trying to order the SG 1603, however it's been two times now the shops tell me they can't send it due to quality issues. Anyone else ran into this problem?
I’ve never seen the 124018/9 under $100. They normally for $120-$150. I do have a 124019 and love it though, but the wait to get parts in the US is long.
This video is quite old now. If you check the post date you would realise this? At the time of making before the increased prices due to shipping/tax/pandemic almost all of these cars were under 100... have a great day 🤣
I agree with you on the wl toys 1/14 scale buggy for what it offers when it’s cars and trucks I deal with wl toys I have 1/32, 2- 1/28, 1/24 , and 1/16 don’t have the 1/14 but I purchased the sg 1603 with brushless in mind a lot of people don’t realize this but most of wl toys parts fit the sg 1603 and as I watched this video AliExpress already is selling spare parts so it’s good to know I have one on your list and the 1/14 for the future cool video bro
I was looking for a HBX 16889 for my son (6 years) to get into RC. I’m in Australia and seeing heaps of links for a Linxtech 16889A which appears identical. Thoughts?
Cheers mate! Would love to knock it off the top spot but really dont think there is anything out there that can top it for the money and what you get! For now anyway 😏
@@beyondRC @BigBear RC Please guys you are influent youtubers: Make a petition we could send to Wltoys for a 144001 chassis KIT only with parts in a bag without electronics that could be also cheaper, I would buys 10 personnaly for making brushless to friends and also for spare parts.
Hey, I’m an 11 year old who wants an rc car for my birthday. My parents just got divorced and I moved to an hilly area. What I would like is an good long range, space for an camera, and decently fast. It doesn’t need to be super speed, but more tourque would be better. My bugdet is under 200 dollars, and I am fine with purchasing upgrades like better range Transmitter.
I agree. I got my 14001 at Christmas. Here in Canada I've only had it out twice but it's been great fun so far!! I'm going to check out that dune buggy version next!
Great video, but i still can't decide which one to buy between 124019 or 144001. Do the 2200 mAH battery fit in to the 144001 chassis? or is it need another adjustment?
He is true you can get bigger batteries in there, I took the battery holders out and use Velcro on all my batteries and in my 144001’s I’ve a piece stuck down so the battery is held in with the Velcro. You can get sticky back Velcro from lots of different places. It’s easy to do get a 144001? Enjoy 👍
Honestly, do you think if I bought the HBX 16889, would it over shadow my modified 144001 (full electronic replacement, except I'm still using the stock motor)? I mostly run off road, (dirt, small roots, short/medium grass), and some on road. I would also take it off small/medium jumps. Do you think I should save the money for another different R/C? I have entry level crawlers (could you do a top 5 on those?) in mind. Edit: I'm also going to switch over to wider, tires with more grip on my 144001, they are like the ones that come on the 16889, but better. I really don't want to waste money on something I won't use that much.
I would say the 144001 beats the 16889 every time. The hbx 16889 is a great little monster truck but its probably the least hobby grade on the list. Ideal for an absolute beginner. It would make a great addition to your collection and with some oil filled shocks will feel great on jumps but I think as you already have the 144001 which is a great buggy the next step after that would be something else not the 16889. I will look at doing a crawler vid in the coming months 😏👍
Stock. I like a brushless hbx way more than my wltoys. That car is practically indestructible. Easily get 20 min of runtime and close to 40 on a bigger 2200 lipo. It's light weight so it bounces off crashes rather than break. Perfect basher, can't go fast enough to really cause damage but 22-24mph is plenty for a small scale. Meanwhile my wltoys has broke ever c hub arm you can imagine. If you're just going to bash the get the hbx. If you want a faster buggy that's less runtime and easier to break, get the wltoys. Both are great but my hbx puts a smile on. The wltoys I'm always nervous about a crash.
@beyondRC That's exactly what I was looking for, thanks. I'm excited for the crawler video! Quick little funny side note: in the intro, when I saw the Arrma Typhon, I was like, no way! Then I was like, oh that's just the intro, it not in the list 😂😂
@Raul Delgadillo thanks for the feedback. I don't give my 144001 h*ll like some people do, but I haven't broke any parts yet. Only thing I've broke is the stock servo, (driving inside + younger sibling chasing it + table leg = broken servo) and I actually think that was a good thing because it gave me an excuse to upgrade and tinker with my car. I fitted a new brushed ESC, new servo, and a DumboRC radio and receiver set. I love my upgraded 144001, probably going brushless after the stock motor is done. Plus, if you limit the top speed, you can get good run times.
Can't disagree with that list, one of the big pluses of your channel Ricky is as others point out that you cater for people like myself. Lots of good cheap RC for those with limited resources but that doesn't mean they aren't good. Yes we'd all love an infraction or xmaxx or 6 🤣 but reality is a bit different for a lot of us. Channels like Bigbeard,Tomley,John Robinson and beyond are my goto channels. Looking forward to seeing you all in 2021 doing what we all love, let's hope we finally see some respite!
Glad you agree! We have said it before that the cheap/budget end of RC has been forgotten a little especially by some of the big names on here.. i wont mention any!! But most do favour the high end stuff which is unobtainable for some people or just completely unrealistic with their budget. You can have a great performing Cheap RC which is just as much fun as the bigger more expensive ones. Exactly i would also love an Xmaxx but i know for sure i can have just as much fun with some of my cheaper models. Lets hope so! Exciting times ahead that's for sure!
@@beyondRC What i think about, especially being a skinflint father lol is that the price of 1 Traxxas or Arrma, then factor in batteries/parts etc, I could buy a ton of different little cars. As you know my background with my lads Autism and my attempts to start a after school club, cheap needs to be paramount lol. I've been trying to scavenge bits and pieces from ebay/banggood , had a donation from Phil ( TomleyRc) of some old bits he didn't need which is perfect for my startup. It's probably the total wrong year BUT im thinking of a totally mad idea of starting a Club for special needs kids (hate the bloody term) , another load of red tape first to keep me occupied in Lockdown 😂
@@philhumber1534 its crazy mate those xmaxx's are lovely but the shear cost to get one and then get it up and running with 2x 4s packs is just insane easily £1200+ certainly out of reach for a lot of people. Also need to get sawyers stickers in the post!! Haven't forgotten just so insanely busy!!
Tbh the 144001 could be called the Evolution - the 124019 the Fierce and the 124018 the Habile or the Ace - just due to whats printed on the bodyshells

Can you do one for crawlers
Excellent idea! 😎
Darn... here we are in August and the WL toys models are 160-180$
They have put the prices up for most RC cars dramatically the past few months! :(
Hey, I’m an 11 year old who wants an rc car for my birthday.
Sorry😭

Wltoys doesnt get enough cred
Definitely not! They are great :)
Do these cars come pre made?
yes 100% RTR
Do you like marmite?
Yes I do 😎👍
Just wondering if u have seen the austar scx10 roller chassis and if u could do a review of the base product
Can I have it shipped to India?
You have finally convinced me to grab the 144001. I'm also looking to build my own rc too. Which kit would you recommend for a beginner
Finally!! I dont think you can go wrong with a tamiya as a beginner the instructions are excellent!
I agree. I got my 14001 at Christmas. Here in Canada I've only had it out twice but it's been great fun so far!! I'm going to check out that dune buggy version next!
That is awesome!
Wait you have to build it
Build what dude?
@@beyondRC the rc car.
Is banggood trustable? I never heard of them?
Very been buying from them for years and they supply a lot of my review samples. Never had any issues. 👍
That's cool !!
Great video, but i still can't decide which one to buy between 124019 or 144001.
Do the 2200 mAH battery fit in to the 144001 chassis? or is it need another adjustment?
it will fit just fine but the included velcro strap will be too short
He is true you can get bigger batteries in there, I took the battery holders out and use Velcro on all my batteries and in my 144001’s I’ve a piece stuck down so the battery is held in with the Velcro. You can get sticky back Velcro from lots of different places. It’s easy to do get a 144001? Enjoy 👍
Please tell me which one is best on low grass and all terrain
Hbx 16889 I would say. But the 124018 is a good choice as well. Thanks 👍
@@beyondRC is the second one vatos?
Is this ⚽ soccer or football, I call it football😀
It is football here in the UK!!
@@beyondRC do you play football?!
144 is still god of the budget RCs 😁 although mine is looking a little worse for wear atm
and will be for a long time.. until something better comes along which i think will be a while!!
@@beyondRC amen to that!
Sadly, sg1603/1604 is kinda hard to get 😭😭😭
At the moment due to demand!! They have become very popular!
Thats an amazing idea mate honestly i will support it where i can i will be having a big spring clean up out in the workshop soon so will see what i have about. Also need to get sawyers stickers in the post!! Haven't forgotten just so insanely busy!!
Awesome video bro 👍👍
Hey Thanks bro! :)
Great video and comparison.👍👍💯💯💯
Thanks 👍;)
Hey man I heard the stock esc in the 144001 burn out is that cause of bigger batteries?
Not the stock esc can handle big batteries fine they usually burn out when people run 3s or 11.1v lipo instead of the 2s 7.4v. 👍
@@beyondRC ah ok thanks for the info man
🚗 🔥
Great list!!!! But for the love of God, can they please give their buggies names please!!!! Even if the names are stupid.
haha! I know right! Would make so much more sense and then i wouldn't have to try and remember all those numbers when making these videos!!
I was thinking just that! THEY NEED NAMES??? 👍
Another great upload thanks 🙏
Tbh the 144001 could be called the Evolution - the 124019 the Fierce and the 124018 the Habile or the Ace - just due to whats printed on the bodyshells
@@idophotosuk you need to get a hold of their peeps and tell them your ideas, I like them!!!!
Finally got my sg 1603 and what fun this thing is the upgrades are cool to check out on some channels and yes the spare parts are out there definitely becoming my top of all my rc cars especially with the upgrade
Great stuff! I love the SG1603 :)
