I purchased the R12 CLX 177 Bolt action brand new 1 week old and did it with me within HALF A TIN of pellets. sent it back and they said in the report to make sure your pellets are seated properly in the magazine. I have 9 air rifles and a good few pistols. so it's my fault guess what did it again how many more times. Glad I came across this video, my friend John bought one about a month ago and , he phoned me last wk and said the gun wouldn’t cock , cut a long story short , he took the stock off and turned the gun upside down and a pellet dropped out , I will mention this when I review the gun shortly on my UA-cam channel , thanks shaneweightman
So glad I found your review, was going to purchase the R12 this weekend, will be getting the hw100 I think. To much hassle with this gun by the look of it. Thank you for your review you have saved me a load of hassle
A year later but I'm at a similar point, choosing between the this R12 or the HW100T. The adjustable cheek-piece & greater capacity bottle options made me look at the R12, but I reckon I'll stick with my first consideration and go with the HW100T. Thanks for the video.
I’ve had mine in bits today to have a look what’s going on. I am going to chuck it up in the lathe in a fixture I have made so that I can deepen the o ring groove ever so slightly. There isn’t much material to play with but if it fails, I will be remaking the anodised part on the CNC machine. If either of these methods are successful, I will be happy to modify other magazines for people for a very small cost, or i could provide a new inner for the magazines
@@sibfishingadventuresuk1558 I will do. I’m hoping that deepening the groove ever so slightly will allow the o ring to hold on to the pellets much better
That was my thought too. I can't see changing o-rings helping as they will only sit at the same level. If the new o-ring is too fat, it could even prevent it sitting in the bottom of the groove and make matters worse. Yes, the o-ring needs to sit deeper across the pellet aperture. By the way, if you think that magazine is fiddly, try a Daystate Wolverine mag!
I had Pellets jamming and shaving in the 2 R10se rifles I owned. Shot ok on the level but when hunting shooting up at angle while keeping the rifle on the rest and cycling the bolt both rifles jammed or damaged pellets when loading . I often lost the chance to bag a second bird, If you own a BSA rifle try testing it by safely shooting from a gun rest at a angle cocking and shooting the rifle at various angles to see if it jams.
This issue also occurred on my .22 Ultra CLX. Again BSA say user issue but I found a pellet stuck to the probe and pulled back into the mechanism even when pointed downwards. I agree the main issue is the size of the aperture into the trigger mechanism and ill fitting of pellets into those very expensive magazines. Shorter pellets seemed to be the main culprit whereas JSB Exact seem to fit better.
It's disgusting how the after service department immediately tell a customer that they are they are the issue when they have had the same complaints from numerous owners of a new to market rifle . I've always believed that the rifles most reviewer's get have been thoroughly checked , tweaked and tuned by the factory before they get sent out , it's either that or most reviewers are dishonest liars and aren't telling us how the rifle broke down on them and needs more QC.
Had exactly the same problem with my BSA Ultra CLX in .22 but the pellet is stuck behind the hammer so has gone back to the shop to be repaired. The guy knew about this problem as soon as i told him what was going on with the rifle. 17:04
Day 1 out of the box and it jammed, yes it pulled pellets back into the block, there is a side plate on the block, remove this and the pellets fall out....The cause was the magnet came out of the mag and jammed the the mag, sent back to BSA, returned in a week with a free mag. Araldite the magnets and since then I've put 2k pellets through it and no issues (using only BSA Gold). Never had issue with pellets falling out.

As I've just purchased one of these from airgun centre yesterday, this is a little disappointing to me😢 thanks for doing this video, very informative, i left airgun centre yesterday thinking i didn't want to spend a penny more in there sensing a funny attitude and i had to pull them on the fact there should be two magazines with the x demo deal i was purchasing! They checked thier advertisement before giving me another one, not sure what to do now?
@sibfishingadventuresuk1558 Had this gun now since my first post, happy to report no issues whatsoever, very happy 😀 obviously my magazine's are the revised ones, still never going to walk back into Airgun centre though 😉 I've found May's of London, they couldn't be more friendly and helpful 👌🏻👍🏻
Very disappointing to see bsa's brand new flagship rifles are not being thoroughly tested at the factory before getting sent out , back in 2008 when bsa revealed the pictures of its new ( yet to go on sale ) flagship rifle that was retiring the super ten ,people were excited , the prototype rifle looked leagues above the super tens ,a quick fill and a gauge , that was a major thing back then , so in 2009 when the first r tens ( the mk1) started to hit shelves , they sold instantly , however most people who bought one were back at the gunshop within a few days , the regulators used in the rifles were failing massively , usually it was power inconsistencies that were the problem ( in turn causing accuracy issues ) . It's a shame the r tens started off so bad , bsa eventually did a MK2 r ten before even releasing that model , the mk 1s ended up with re worked regulator's getting installed ( just to get the rifles to sell ) I bought one of the re worked mk 1s and it served me well for 2 years , not one problem at all . I then bought a super carbine MK2 , again no problems and never once broke down in the 2 years I kept if for .
Had mine for a while sent loads of tins down it. Had no problem what so ever. It awesome. Pellet on pellet 30 40 50 yards. Every gun has their problems. Dont mean you have to throw your dummy out the pram
@sibfishingadventuresuk1558 5yrs. It only 12 months old.. 50 yards I was getting them in a 10p coin group. What was you getting beens you say your grouping was shite. What pellets was you useing??
Had magazine issues with pellets not feeding correctly but my local gun shop has been told by his BSA rep that there are new magazines and has got a new on the way to the shop for me.
If you are replacing any o ring on the internals of your rifle make surevyou know the shaw ratting of the rubber it's made from , a lot of people go to the normal DIY shops and buy loads thinking they will do the job , they won't if they are holding any kind of air pressure , that's where specific Shaw ratings are required, I'd recommend looking for the white o rings that best fittings and others sell , they last a lifetime , actually I've never had one fail on me , they are great for the oring needed on the bottles of the r tens and 12s .
Okay, I've got a BSA R 10 and R12. The R10 magazine used to misfeed the pellets occasionally. I took the magazine's apart, removed O ring and used a junior hacksaw to cut a deeper groove. End result is a tighter group and no missfeads. R12 is mangling pellets but it's metal so not sure if the same treatment will work. I think it's outrageous that we spend a lot of money and are then told it's user error. It's not user error but a failure to properly test the design. Perhaps we could start a group and gather enough people to put pressure on BSA to fix this design error?
So if you are rabbit shooting off a bipod and drop one and you have to stand up and point the rifle downwards before you can take another shot ? Well done BSA !
Yes 3 different tins .. 2 of which came from bsa themselves.. every pellet available of a decent quality. Took to my local rfd 3 weeks ago has I was still having problems. And not happy ( not the rfd where I perchanced but where it got delivered to ) he questioned me alot sticking up for bsa as expected, the famous quote ( let me see ) like I wasnt being untruthful, he cocked it without putting a magazine in and said " yes that's going back "
for £1000 imo there should be NO "quirks" or issues with a gun, for that much money i want flawless. maybe thats unrealistic but if its not flawless for that money i wont buy it. i saw reviews of the Ultra CLX by bsa (£650 rifle) had the mounting nut for the stock too far forward so it caused leverage and also had very little wood on the actual stock to stop the bolt pulling through, also the mag springs were too tight and took shavings off the skirts of pellets and built up in the gun. i got my first PCP today, gamo phox starter kit, pump and all that for £530, it doesnt have a single one of these issues. it really feels like BSA dropped the ball on the "CLX" stuff which is a shame cause it was supposed to be a show of their optimal engineering, the pinnacle of 160 years of being in business, and they all end up having issues. damn shame.
It was highly anticipated for me could wait to get it, the r10 I had was a fabulous bit of kit but only after it was tuned but airtech although it's was a blueprint of johns .. honestly it's been such a disappointment all they have done it's throw a different stock and a buddy bottle in the ultra clx which has exactly the same issue ..
change the o-ring all you want, its not going change the fact the groove needs to be deeper, the o-ring is never going to come in contact with the pellets enough
It’s such a disappointment that the manufacturers don’t listen to the feedback from consumers. BSA just keep sending out guns with faults. The R10, R10 se, the R12, 🙄 I can only assume that the the management at BSA are only interested in short term profits and have no interest in the products they sell only the cars they drive and the pay check at the end of the month.
Yes it's crazy .. the bsa always had it's problems same as other manufacturers but they were always expected especially regulator issues I think bsa still make there own even thou there are poor and cause 90% of there customer complaints just buy in the huma or airtech reg and be done . But this new clx block and magazine issue really does take the piss, 5 years in the making and still this issue off a manufacturer that's been in the game for 160 years
I was about to buy a clx pro within the next 2 weeks but will hold off now I’ve learned about this loading issue. Reading the forums it appears to be the magazine hole size is too big allowing .177 pellets to fall out.Obviously not every rifle has this problem but it’s obviously either a design flaw or quality control issue with some of the magazines. I see no reason why bsa can’t immediately address this issue by slightly redesigning the magazines??
Shocking service , I would be fuming with that!!..you shouldn't have be doing that fix on a new bloody gun..I feel for you.. every BSA I've had , I've always used 4.53 pellets as Bsa barrels tend to like them. Or some sort of pellet sized may help.
i had this on my BSA lightning, the 4.51 air arms diablos would fall out of the barrel if i cocked too hard but 4.52 were tight. his issue isnt a slightly loose tollerance etc, they were falling into the action, shocking oversight i dont know how they havent recalled them over that much of a design flaw
Them R12s are getting near £1000, not good enough from BSA. Are the likes over Air Arms having issues to the same level rifle ref S510r?? Ive owned the HW100KT and no issues like this. Its a shame as BSA do make accurate rifles but this is a massive issue. My BSA Scorpion SE had mag issue's.
what youve just showed me is that same with the clx altra, and i couldnt even get mag out of the gun due to pellets jamming up barrel. very poor design. wont bye another one.cheers
the only way to get mag out is to get soft peice of wood and pull hammer back hit it . mine came out first time , hope this helps @@sibfishingadventuresuk1558
Nothing ... They say they have been to the supplier of the mags to kick their arse and tighten up the spec but nothing as or yet . Local stop had a new r12 in and the mags are still the same
This should not be happening on a rifle of this quality, after all its not a budget rifle. I was considering updating from my R10 i think i will stick with what i have. Thanks for the tip off.
I can't understand these BSA fanboys. Can you imagine buying a brand new car and immediately having to take it apart and replace parts of the engine with after maket bits to get it to run properly and then telling everyone it was a fantastic car? This is not the first video I've watched listing BSA problems, which wouldn't be so bad if it was a £500 gun from China but for the price its disgraceful. A few years back I bought a new FAC BSA R10SE which turned out to have a sticky bolt and an inconsistent regulator. The RFD sent it back to BSA who seemed to have just pumped a load of grease around the bolt. It was no better. Got lots of on-line advice from other owners, like sending it to 3rd party whizz kids who would replace bits and tweak this and that (£££) after which I would have a marvelous rifle! Are you kidding me? It was rapidly swapped for an Air Arms S510 FAC which cost about the same at the time and which worked perfectly out of the box and through a few years of wet weather and cold winters doing pest control. At the same time I also had a new HW100 sub 12 which, like the S510, worked perfectly out of the box.
Simple fix. Buy a weihrauch or an air arms. Had several bsa pile of crap everyone them waste of money. There customers service is next to useless. Only good bsa is one that John bowket has rebuilt.
Nice one Mate, Tell it as it is. The price we pay for our guns Sub 12ft-lb in the UK is Stupid. Fair enough if you live in a country where you can buy them unrestricted you have the ability to tune the gun yourself. But us Suckers Have to pay the same price and we only get half a guns usability. So we then have to Pay another £200 - £300 for a Specialist to make the rifle shoot like it should have done from the Factory. Rant Over.
You would expect better from a UK made air rifle with the heritage that BSA had. User error, what a joke. You should just be able to buy and shoot for the next 10 years or more, with a bit of servicing. Do you know if the Ultra CLX's have the same issues as someone wants my Air Arms S510 that has been trouble free for the last eight years in part ex for one.
@Urban Spaceman C'mon now. A rifle at this price which is supposed to be the epitome of 160+ years of BSA air rifle manufacturing better damn well have a magazine that holds and cycle ALL the standard pellets wouldn't you agree?
Problem is .. it was £1200 plus didn't work out the box didn't work after the orings and still didn't work after bsa had it back so .. yea that's the fuss
95% of my shooting is Hunting Crows pigeon, squirrel, which nearly always involves shooting up into trees. Unfortunately BSA Rifles are not fit for this purpose and worse still BSA have a long record of producing models with the same faults. I can only assume that the BSA management don’t really care about the quality or reliability of their products only making a quick buck , The fate of a lot of Uk businesses ,is management who have no interest in the product just short term profits. It will finish the company 😔one day.
.....carrying on watching mate.....you shouldnt be having to put anything in the fucking gun....its a bad design fault on bsa part.....hope you get some satisfaction....or at least compensation off bsa

I thoght, better try mine, loaded 1 magzine with 3 brands of .177, (WASP 4.5mm made by Bilsley) (JSB EXACT 4.5mm) (BSA GOLDSTAR 4.5mm) loaded 1 pellet at a at a time, turned the mag upside down and banged it the table, not one fell out, even when
cocking the the side lever and loading with the rifle muzzel pointing upwards (virtical) so far so good, hope you get your's sorted
and happy shooting..
No it went back and refunded
sorry to hear that, what have you got now?..
I had that too and yes, it's a shame I sold it and got the GAMO Bullpop, no problems 😉
The rifle might be fine if it is it's bang on .. they are said to have fixed the issue but regular comments on here suggests otherwise..
Not throwing the dummy mate it's £1000 5 years in the making. Groups where shit down because it's was over 50% of guns
@sibfishingadventuresuk1558 5yrs. It only 12 months old.. 50 yards I was getting them in a 10p coin group. What was you getting beens you say your grouping was shite. What pellets was you useing??
Nothing wrong with accuracy.. the rifle was advertised 5years in the making .. watch the vid again
@sibfishingadventuresuk1558 stick to your wanker sport. That's fishing.. Welsh away got a problem with British made
The O ring groove is not quite deep enough which is why using different rings doesn't reliably retain the pellets.
I wondered why there are so many of these on the second hand market.
Had magazine issues with pellets not feeding correctly but my local gun shop has been told by his BSA rep that there are new magazines and has got a new on the way to the shop for me.
Ring bsa direct as you speak to Innes ! There are no magazines as of yet who is your local gun shop
Nah I won't be I'm waiting on new probe orings then if it still don't shoot true I'm seeking my options
My clx is in 22 and jammed up at the moment disappointing hardly covers it !
Shocking for 5years in the making .. and sales pitch everyone should demand a refund
My point exactly
What pellets are you using?
Tried alot
The BSA pellets they supplied
Yes 3 different tins .. 2 of which came from bsa themselves.. every pellet available of a decent quality.
Took to my local rfd 3 weeks ago has I was still having problems. And not happy ( not the rfd where I perchanced but where it got delivered to ) he questioned me alot sticking up for bsa as expected, the famous quote ( let me see ) like I wasnt being untruthful, he cocked it without putting a magazine in and said " yes that's going back "
I had the same prob!em with my clx, wouldn't have another BSA, so irritating
for £1000 imo there should be NO "quirks" or issues with a gun, for that much money i want flawless. maybe thats unrealistic but if its not flawless for that money i wont buy it. i saw reviews of the Ultra CLX by bsa (£650 rifle) had the mounting nut for the stock too far forward so it caused leverage and also had very little wood on the actual stock to stop the bolt pulling through, also the mag springs were too tight and took shavings off the skirts of pellets and built up in the gun. i got my first PCP today, gamo phox starter kit, pump and all that for £530, it doesnt have a single one of these issues.
it really feels like BSA dropped the ball on the "CLX" stuff which is a shame cause it was supposed to be a show of their optimal engineering, the pinnacle of 160 years of being in business, and they all end up having issues.
Wow I was literally just about to push the button and order one.
Fantastic video thanks.
Mmm what do I get now???
Fx or airarms
The R-10 is the same, use different pellets, we tried a number of different ones, the pellet skirts were the issue.
change the o-ring all you want, its not going change the fact the groove needs to be deeper, the o-ring is never going to come in contact with the pellets enough
Thats not the only problem with the bsa mags after a while they slip and then the pellet holes dont line up properly with the barrel
Ratworks, they will sort that problem. Sorted the exact same problem on my Ultra CLX.
But this new clx block and magazine issue really does take the piss, 5 years in the making and still this issue off a manufacturer that's been in the game for 160 years
Bsa stands for Best Shit About Airsporter was good 👍
Is it a magazine problem or the rifle too😢
I was about to buy a clx pro within the next 2 weeks but will hold off now I’ve learned about this loading issue.
I bought a Daystate Huntsman revere , so glad I did
Very disappointing to hear problems like this with such a premium gun. You’re right, all the reviews were on .22s
Cheers mate .....was seriously thinking of getting one.....not a chance in hell now
it does happen with 22 as ive found out
Ok, AA S510 Ultimate Sporter it is then… thanks 🙏🏼
Shocking service , I would be fuming with that!!..you shouldn't have be doing that fix on a new bloody gun..I feel for you.. every BSA I've had , I've always used 4.53 pellets as Bsa barrels tend to like them. Or some sort of pellet sized may help.
I've tried every size .. the rifle is returned and refunded
i had this on my BSA lightning, the 4.51 air arms diablos would fall out of the barrel if i cocked too hard but 4.52 were tight. his issue isnt a slightly loose tollerance etc, they were falling into the action, shocking oversight i dont know how they havent recalled them over that much of a design flaw
Does the R10 th have the same problem. I was thinking of getting that second hand.
No the r10 has reg issue's
I echo the last comment thanks for the info.
How do you find the accuracy on this?
Poor flyers but when it was good it's was pellet on pellet
what youve just showed me is that same with the clx altra, and i couldnt even get mag out of the gun due to pellets jamming up barrel. very poor design. wont bye another one.cheers
Yea same as all the clx ... Mine was the same
the only way to get mag out is to get soft peice of wood and pull hammer back hit it . mine came out first time , hope this helps
@@sibfishingadventuresuk1558
forgot to mention mags are made bye another company not bsa. ?
Yea not many manufacturers make there own mags all subbed out .. it's the 5 years in the making the extensive testing obviously is not true
I was going to buy one of these, but after seeing this video, I definitely won’t. Are BSA going to do anything about the problem ?
Nothing ... They say they have been to the supplier of the mags to kick their arse and tighten up the spec but nothing as or yet . Local stop had a new r12 in and the mags are still the same
That grove ,the o-ring sites in should be deeper, basic engineering fault.
Bsa just cannot get it right. Best scrap available what it stands for save yourself the heartache and get as it arms or weihrauch
This is going back .. I've a hw100 and s400 sold my r10 before buying this
Simple fix. Buy a weihrauch or an air arms. Had several bsa pile of crap everyone them waste of money. There customers service is next to useless. Only good bsa is one that John bowket has rebuilt.
Have a CLX for two years, no problems.
BSA need to sort this problem out it’s not acceptable for a gun this price to have this problem
Rant Over.
I absolutely agree with you 100%
Thx. For the warnings...horrible crap, made in China or UK ?
Sure somebody clever out there could knock some new inners up with deeper O ring groove to hold em in better 🤔🤔🤔
oh bollox ...my R12 order is arriving on Monday...
so far no probs!
That's bang out of order and blaming the problem on user error .that's the best they can come up with that's a terrible excuse!!!!
Got my in .22 and don't have this issue.
Not fit for purpose. Return for refund would be my advice.
Try better fitting pellets. I have never had a single issue after many thousands of pellets through it. I have the .177
Care to share ? As said in the video I tried loads .. and your very lucky .. there is a FB group r12 and everyone is having the same issue
@Urban Spaceman C'mon now. A rifle at this price which is supposed to be the epitome of 160+ years of BSA air rifle manufacturing better damn well have a magazine that holds and cycle ALL the standard pellets wouldn't you agree?
@@jakobiller yea absolutely totally agree
@@sibfishingadventuresuk1558 Tried dozens of pellets, never had a problem with any, the least pellet fussy rifle ever made.
Air arms on 5.52 for the 22 or 4.52 for 177
Its going to be german gun after reading these posts.
Can't go wrong with the German guns..
Get some aftermarket magazines
Just change the o rings simple as that no more problems don't get all the fuss.
Problem is .. it was £1200 plus didn't work out the box didn't work after the orings and still didn't work after bsa had it back so .. yea that's the fuss
It is a user error, why would you ever point the barrel upwards. Even level is fine.
Most of the issues came while bench shooting.. this is an hunting rifle
95% of my shooting is Hunting Crows pigeon, squirrel, which nearly always involves shooting up into trees. Unfortunately BSA Rifles are not fit for this purpose and worse still BSA have a long record of producing models with the same faults. I can only assume that the BSA management don’t really care about the quality or reliability of their products only making a quick buck ,
The fate of a lot of Uk businesses ,is management who have no interest in the product just short term profits. It will finish the company 😔one day.
.....carrying on watching mate.....you shouldnt be having to put anything in the fucking gun....its a bad design fault on bsa part.....hope you get some satisfaction....or at least compensation off bsa
Thanks ,,, BSA are now not worth buying ,,, they almost got my money but much better brands available
Having had two bsa guns in the last three yrs will never buy another ,,nothing but niggly problems ,leaking air seals I've had 3 in last 6 months, and now the gauge is leaking
