I was a professional cleaning woman for 27 years; I worked for millionaires. Wright’s Brass Polish, Silver Cream, and Copper Cream are the BEST. Unfortunately, since the pandemic Wright’s quit making the brass polish; it seems impossible to find anywhere. I also sell vintage and antiques online and I always polish metals. Here in Florida, brass items are cheap because they turn quickly in the humidity. It’s a great item to flip! Never tried salt and lemon juice. I’ll give it a shot.😊

Yes the lemon & salt , I learned from my mom. My mom and dad lived in Morocco , dad was in Navy. She watched a local lady clean the brass trays.
It’s so cool to see you clean brass the same.

If life gives you lemons... it better also give you a lot of brass. I have a bunch of brass in my home. I never cleaned the patina off, but I like how it shows it's age. But now I'm very tempted to try cleaning them..... Thnanks for sharing your tip.

Bar Keepers Friend works great not only on metals but it is gentle enough to take gray and dark utensil marks off of corning ware. I have made some shabby looking Pyrex and Corelle look new again with dulling it. But that Wright's cream is on my list now. Also, the lemon and salt can take stains out of vintage linens scrub it in and put the piece out in the noon day sun for a fews hours and the results are amazing on tough stains and the rusty looking old marks. Love your show Laura! Congratulations on the house! How exciting? I just can't wait to see what you do with it!

Ok I had to ”test this lemon & salt idea, even though I watched your video😉…I said I’m REALLY going to rest this. I had a large brass “vase” type that I found in a goodwill about 20 years ago (yes! It’s that old.) it has these “dime size” 2 green and 2 blue cabochons that circle around the middle - beautiful piece. But I’ve neglected it. It used to be outside on a patio table. I mean it’s been outside - 365 days a year - for at least 3 years.🙂😄…so this was going to test your lemon & salt theory. Well, All Hail Ms. Laura! To my utter surprise it worked. It frigging worked😁 she’s absolutely gorgeous now, a pinkish gold patina right now, but non the less gorgeous 🥰🥰…Now here’s the kicker…a jeweler friend was inquisitiveness about what I thought were plastic/glass cabs on the piece. He tested them…they are emerald and sapphire cabochons and an Egyptian piece!!😮I won’t list what he priced this piece at, however let’s just say she will not be outside EVER AGAIN😁…and to think I found this at a goodwill 20 years ago! Absolutely one if not my best find ever.😍Thanks so much Laura💜🦋

I have several penguins... crystal, brass, copper, marble, ceramic and even a tiny sterling silver one. 6 total thru out my house, but you know what I don't have? That dang penguins ice bucket. I've looked in flea markets and antique stalls all over Nashville but never found one. Then I start watching your channel and you're an ice bucket magnet. Growling now.

My gosh they turned out so perfect. I must not be working hard enough with the lemon & salt because I’ve never got my brass that shiny. I guess I’ll have to try again. I have also used a mixture of white vinegar and baking soda and that worked okay to combat a light patina. Thank you so much for the tip about the rose gold point when polishing. I was convinced I ruined a couple candle stick holders with the lemon and salt trick when I started seeing the pinky hue. I guess I should go back to them and keep on scrubbing 😁 I have that same brass elephant 🐘 and yes I saw the “eyeballs” on the birdies! Off to polish my brass critters!!

Then you just rinse and dry it. You probably would still want to use steel wool on the heavily patina areas. Hope this is helpful. A lot less work for sure and uses things you find in your kitchen.

I have an affinity for brass, but mine are really odd pieces, a pumpkin coffee urn, a meat cooker with a butterfly , 2 maybe 3 ? very large brass plates? plaques.. I use the chemical on my plaques as they are intricate patterned pieces. the coffee urn and the meat cooker I've been letting them age, and will soon clean them probably with lemon method. I've used the vinegar method as well: Mix together 1/2 cup of vinegar, a teaspoon of salt, and a sprinkling of flour until it forms a paste. Spread the mixture on the brass and allow it to sit for a few minutes. Rinse with cool water and dry. (This method also works on corroded brass.)
I have heard you can use ketchup and believe it or not WD-40.

Fantastic! I love these videos, they offer a glimpse into the real side of handling the treasures! I am looking for inspiration on how to set up my "shop" for my resell items - can't wait to see how your new workshop turns out - I love seeing how other people organise their treasures for resale! Have a great week!

The only brass I own is an antique brass and iron bed. I do, every several years, disassemble the brass and polish, but usually I'm too lazy to do that. I use the liquid Wright's Brass Polish--and i was hoping you would get around to Wrights products. Brasso takes forever to polish brass, but it is all i see in the grocery store and Ace Hardware. I order Wright's online.
And while on the subject of polishing...Scrubbing bubbles for kitchen sinks, and Kleen King powder (only powder) for stainless steel. I have allclad pots and I've killed my favorite one about 3 times. Burned so bad I thought I'd have to pitch it. Bartender's Friend goes only so far...it doesn't get that last bit of stuck on burn like Kleen King. Unfortunately, they only sell it west if the Mississippi. This, I also get online. Thought I'd add that kleenKing also cleans copper.
