    I haven’t watched too many of your videos, but I specifically like the ones where you give your own perspective on globally used tools. Your precise way of describing them and using them on video actually gives me a different perspective on those tools. Another great video Max!

    I totally agree, it was the first carvingknife I got and I modified the handle. Now a few knives later I got a new one and it is becoming my favourite unmodified, the blade length is very nice as well. I have plugged the hole where the blade starts with wood vedges and wood glue to prevent water to get in there when sharpening.

    For me the guards would be annoying. My Kestrel crooked knife has a smooth and curved handle. I made the handle myself out of maple. No hot spots. My Flexcut knives all have smooth palm fit handles. I’m not putting Mora down. I have 6, but I would have to alter the shape. My son has a 105 and a 120 and loves them, but he doesn’t carve as much as I do. Thanks for the video. 🔪🎸

    I've been using a svante djarv for a few years and found that the rough handle gave a really nice grip but recently I acquired a 106 and I absolutely love the fine tip and thinner straighter blades in comparison. The birch handle is so smooth and rounded though, I don't have the same confidence. I think those flared ends on the 105 are maybe the way to go.

    • @woodsmansfinest3814
      @woodsmansfinest3814  5 років тому +1

      I hear ya. Kalessons and Djärv are great steel and rippled handles but not great blade profiles imho. The mora 106 besides many great customs, is a great blade shape but the handle is too short and round. This one got extra length and the birch is rather rough sanded... Also missing the metal ferrule... Such a great knife!

    Interesting opinion. I prefer longer and simpler handles for more leverage possibilities. But. But I know this style handle is around for long so it delivers something useful. I haven’t tried it yet so that is why your experience is interesting for me. Highly modifiable handle is a big plus for me. So, it is Great value for the cost.

    mora knives are good theres no doubt about that. You are quite right about what you say about the handle projecting beyond the blade to prevent the knife blade from encountering flesh but the fact that the ridge goes all the way around will take some getting used to. However there are plenty of production knives suitable for spoon carving which are largely ignored, some of them are truly superb.
