- A customer of mine sent me a video and asked if I could tie the fly for him. It was interesting enough so I said I would. I liked the fly so much that I decided to make a video on it to show you all how to tie it. Now I am not the originator of this fly, but I believe the person making this video is... • How To Tie The "Pop A ... . You can go check his video out if you want, it is quite informative. He did a few things differently than I did. First, he used a different dubbing for the tail section. His was Lazar dub, I used a more flashy dubbing. He also didnt make cutouts for the eyes, instead used an eye with a protrusion on the back so it stuck into the foam. I think the cutout, while takes longer, looks nicer and is more durable. But its up to you.
Now, I had tied it in the same colors he did, red/white. However I believe this fly could do really well in many other color combos. Like Chartreuse and white, chartreuse and pink, black and blue, brown and orange, etc. Just get creative and make it your own.

This is such an awesome coincidence! My buddy Andrew(the guy in the video you linked in the description) gave me one that he tied about a year and a half ago and I've caught dozens of reds using it. As a matter of fact, my next video coming out Monday is me catching a limit of reds using Andrew's Pop a Top Popper.

Thank you for sharing Brother! That is how all of this works. Someone comes up with an idea and others take that idea and improve on it. I have caught largemouth bass, back home, and barramundi here in Thailand where I live now on many different colors. I have been asked to tie it for others, but I don't have the space to do it until I buy a home here. I will eventually return to making videos and fly tying again, but I do manage to get out and catch a few once in a while. :)

Yeah I’ve got quite a few patterns I came up with that others have made videos on also. Some though say it is their own pattern which is a bit frustrating. But whatever. I try to give credit where credit is due. Please message me on Instagram or something to discuss so I can make sure you get credit if it is indeed your pattern originally. The one I got the pattern from I don’t think was you. So I’ll have to change the description for that.

Yeah it seems like a good pattern. Im sure it will work for bass if you want to fish a local lake or pond.
Most of the top water fishing I do, (fresh and salt) is around, over, or through cover.
Do you ever put weed guards on patters like this? Or tie them so the sit hook point up?
You can, and I do occasionally but for my own fishing I don’t because I am not fishing super heavy cover. But yes you should be able to on this, just maybe give yourself a little extra room by the eye to get that weed guard tied in.

Ik this is a year ago, but I think if I could make the back pink with silicone legs and color the front pink while adding mono eyes to the front, I could make an effective shrimp popper
