I have been an avid Bass Fisherman since I was about 13 or 14. I am now 61 and I often regret never getting into Fly Fishing. After watching you tie this magnificent Fly, I am saddened because I know how much enjoyment I would have had if I would have dove in headfirst into this most rewarding form of Fishing. I've fished Bonefish, Tarpon, Snook, and Permit in Florida as well as the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. All with Spinning Tackle. Yes, I enjoyed all of it but I now feel that it pales in comparison to what I would have experienced if I would have had a Fly rod in my hand. You Sir are a Maestro with your patience and skill. I look forward to more of your videos.
Thanks Warren. So I have over 400 videos I believe now. Check some more out. I also like to conventional fish myself. Its all enjoyable. But its not too late to start something new. Go check it out! You will enjoy it.
I am an avid pike fishermen & the main place I fish is extremely weedy in the summer so I’ll defo be tying some of these. Thanks man. Tight lines everyone 😊
Awesome! I think you've built a better "mouse trap" by combining a bunch of ideas I've seen over the years! Brilliant pattern, smart use of that pesky faux bucktail too. Thanks!
I might suggest that you have a longer bare wire stem on your trimmed joint connector, bend it down 90 degrees and insert it into the eye of the hook when tying it in. Adjust downward facing piece to be as long as the hook shank is thick. Would keep it from being pulled out and would be easier to keep centered when tying it down. Very nice concept! Should be a killer!
I thought about doing it into the eye yeah, however it closed the hole up too much and you wouldn’t be able to get thread in. Glad you like the concept. I wish I could convince a hook company to make a wide eyed hook like this and corresponding shanks. Lol
I just found this video. It looks fun to tie and fish. I've just started gather what i don't already have. I was wondering what you thought of using a red hook instead of the black nickel.
Nice. I too have been tying on EWG hooks for about a decade, and have learned a lot. That heavy wire and short eye shank on the hook your using presents a challenge. And the weight is totally unnecessary - these hooks always ride hook up. I personally have 5 or 6 patterns that I designed, tie, and fish - all weedless and snagless. Right now, it's really the only style hook I use for streamers and topwater. My favorite is the Decoy Dream Hook Worm 15 - it has a longer eye shank, it's thin, strong, and sharp, and available up to 3/0. I also use the OWNER Jungle Bass for saltwater, and big topwaters, mostly again in the 3/0, though it's significantly different than the Decoy 3/0. Any way, you've barely scratched the surface on what you can do with these hooks. Let me know if you'd like more info? Tight lines.
Cool, so the weight wasn’t just for keeping hook point up, they rattle. Anyway, I’ve tied a bit with these hooks no question, this is just one pattern I came up with. Thanks for the info.
@@McFlyAngler I realize that about the rattle. Never mind about the rest, I was just trying to help you out with some other techniques/ideas. Tight lines.
Thanks man. Yeah I can’t imagine someone hasn’t come up with adding beads like this before. But, I hadn’t found it anywhere. Many people already tie on a worm hook like this, so nothing new there for sure.
Give it a go. If your just getting into making your own flies I’d start with something like a wooly bugger. That’s a great streamer for the beginner. Flies like this one are more advanced. I’ve got a few videos on wooly buggers you should check out
Just watched the video nice fly ! You’ve probably found plenty of solutions by now but a vmc xl wide gap worm hook would probably be the ticket for this fly
Yeah for sure! This came out I believe before that hook did. Is that the gunner brommer hook? The one he designed? If so yeah I’m sure I did this video before that hook. Would help give more room at the head to tie
Ok... so these take me about 30 minutes when I’m not speeding up the video and all... when I get the ability to sell them they won’t be cheap... at least $10/each. Just FYI
have you considered tying this fly on the MFC Galloup's Belly Bumper hook? You would have the room to tie the entire fly without having to tie half of it on that shank. This is a great pattern!
Hey thanks! Well I hadn’t actually. I am kinda new to tying on these hooks. But I’ll take a look at them. So I’m guessing the shank near the eye of the hook is a bit longer? Now, one thing I will say is, that the extra shank actually extends out a bit further closer to the hook point which helps with the weedless feature and keeps this from fouling on the line. So I’m not sure how it will perform without that ridged area past the bend there. But I’ll give it a try some time for sure.
I forgot which size I used in this video off the top of my head. I don’t tie a ton of these because once tied they last a while. It should say in the description section though as I always list all the materials.
Hello, in the link below for the hook, it is a 2/0 hook. But you have listed the hook size as a #1. From my research, that particular hook is only offered in 1/0 - 5/0. So is the link correct?
Awesome fly!!! I do tie flies because of an ocd issue😉 however I really enjoy watching them get tied.... are these belly bangers for sale as complete flies?
Yeah I think a spec would be fine, I would question them with a large red though. They could bend on a big one. Also this depends on your fly rod, how stiff and what weight it is. I’ve caught a 31” carp on a small thin hook but it was a 5wt rod which didn’t allow me to bend the hook. Lots of things come into play here whether or not it will work you know?
Sweet! Those are toothy and powerful fish! I’m glad to hear it held up to so many! Were you using the same colors? I figure for tarpon they would want something like black or chartreuse?
Actually it is different. That uses a wire or fishing line or something to hold the beads, instead of putting them directly on the hook. This is actually a different fly completely. But... Close for sure.
Yes close - the hook belly takes the place of the bouncer bail. But it has no give, no “bounce.”. It’s a good idea that’s been around for awhile, and I like the peacock hero. Give the bouncer style a try, though. You’ll see the benefit straight away

What are you throwing?
A Texas rigged fly
Lol yes! Actually... weedless fly for bass. Very effective

Yes, I’m working on getting a sales license for Texas. It’s taking a while but soon I can sell these for sure
Can I throw that on a 5wt?
No I wouldn’t... I mean you could, but you would do much better on a 6wt or larger.

1 for 3 tarpon 5 snook before the fly gave up
