These night workers are such heroes. Respect.

Austen Stokes Hero- noun “a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities”
Working night shifts is never the preferred shift, the role pays better than day shift because no one wants to willingly work the shift. Doing what no one wants to do is Courageous and noble!

Night shift workers are truly heroes. I watched my mom do it for years as a young child. She and my dad made that decision so that one parent would always be with it. It's given me so much respect for her and everything that she did and continues to do for us.

What a lot of ppl don't realize when it comes to management is that ur actions can negatively effect that nights work or the next days... I have seen managers talk to a employee like they re stupid and that person say "fuck this I'm not coming in tomorrow" and then they don't show up and the employees have to do more work to pick up the slack... As a manager you should always engage ur employees in a positive way and even if you have to say something or do something negative, make sure u leave on a positive note... The iron fist approach is good to use sparingly. A lot of weak managers use that all the time to say "I'm the manager and I'm in control." You want ppl to work for u, not just enough to not be fired... There is a big difference in productivity and overall morale between the 2.. Plus those employees spread positivity about the company instead of negativity... Negativity is like cancer, it ll eat ur bottom line and give u a high turnover rate which is something ur attitude can change.... I cannot stress how important what u do in the role is.... Also when u do have to discipline an employee, they feel like they let you down instead of you just coming at them. Because of how you deal with them and how you talk to them. You want the workers to feel like you are on their side, you're basically a buffer between upper management and them. If they feel like you're on their side, then when you have to discipline them they know that they did something wrong. Communication is another big one, make sure you inform your employees anything you want them to know. Whether that's what they're doing right, what they're doing wrong, and also let them know if they continue certain things what could possibly happen to them. So if that thing happens again you can say what we went over this a few times it's not like you didn't know. Which makes it easier for you when you have the discipline them because you can just do it, get in, get out, and get them back to work... And because a lot of managers suck out there, you'll keep a lot of employees if you're a really good manager. People will stay a places because of the money or the people they work with. So if the money is good and you're treating them right. You have an employee for the rest of their life

I got hired at UPS in Ontario October of 2017. There were times i wanted to quit but this job isn't as hard as I suspected. It's physically demanding and it gets hard for most people when it's peak season. I decided to stay with the company because I'm hoping to transitioning to go full time, and the benefits are great.

I concur, I work at UPS and still to this day DO NOT KNOW what the managers do... The can't actually load trucks or even touch boxes because the union says they re taking away pay/hrs from employees... So they don't do anything but watch and they don't do the things u ask them for in a timely fashion ( u can't touch packages so there really isn't much to do ) with that being said it will take them forever to get some pallets or whatever to help the process along... It's truly a sight to behold..

Spot on, I've got managers watching me every night to "hurry me up" but if they had come around earlier like* I've asked them to maybe they could "manage" the actual problem that repeats itself daily in the hours prior. They just look at you with a blank face because they're mostly just robots that can't think beyond what the numbers say. Perfect example, warehouse heat is set for 73 degrees, outside temperature is at 5 degrees, manage leaves the over head door open on purpose for an hour or more so when the driver shows up they don't have to waste 60-90 seconds getting the door open. Waiting for the door would affect the managers numbers and interfere with a bonus or promotion, paying $3,500/year (I did the math for fun, this doesn't count for airflow, multiply $$ by 15 for this building's total doors) for heat lost out the 10x14 door doesn't matter or affect the numbers. Requesting something that matters greatly for your job and getting a blank look back is the classic sign of someone that thinks you didn't choose your career the same as they did theirs, they think you got put in your position and couldn't do their job.

My daughter used to unload UPS trucks on the night shift. She was told that she had to scan 400 parcels an hr. I thought it was a slave driving job. some of the workers would get yelled at for not drinking enough water(obviously they were on camera). They didn't want them to pass out. Also ur employees are only as good as ur managers.. I was taught that if an employee isn't performing then it's your fault... Meaning what have u done to help this employee? Have you spent time to figure the root of the problem? What are u going to do different today to get better results? Once u have truly put in effort to help said employee and it's not happening, then and only then do u have someone thats not working and can be fired
