  • I wanted some maple sugar after reading about it for my tea, but the cost was crazy high. I knew I would be able to make my own for much less. All you need is pure maple syrup to make this recipe. It is fast and so good. We use it in tea, oatmeal packs, and spice mixes. Stores long term in a jar and a little goes a long way.
    Maple sugar
    2c. maple syrup
Pour the maple into a medium pot, turn the heat to medium high and boil about 18 minutes DO NOT STIR IT while it is cooking or it will not cook correctly. If you have a candy thermometer cook until it reached 255-265 degrees.
Pour the hot mix into your mixer and turn it on to medium. Be very careful this mix is super hot.
Turn the mixer to high when you can and let it go for a few minutes. It will change from hot liquid to a powdered mix in a few minutes. Run it though a sifter to get out the larger pieces. Store in a jar longer term.

Wow, that's awesome! Thanks for sharing. And to think, I was about to buy some from Amazon for baking. Looking forward to making this....im in the middle of a move so it'll be a few weeks, but I'll let you know, and can't wait to see you make the oatmeal with maple, it's my favorite during the winter, and I wanted to make it but didn't know how. So, you are extremely helpful. 🤩😘

Had no idea you could make this. I have been buying Maple Sugar in Bulk for a few years from Barred Woods. I finally found something my husband would use in his coffee that was better for him then regular sugar and artificial sweeteners. I also use it in some of my baking. Because I buy in bulk not sure making my own is worth the hassle, but it is nice to know I can in a pinch.

When you said, "Alexa, set a timer for 3 minutes", my Echo dot lit up and said, "For how long?" I guess mine didn't hear the "3 minutes" part. That was funny! 😆😆 If you've ever watched "50 First Dates", it happens with that movie too. Henry has that aquarium assistant named Alexa and whenever he yells at her in the movie, my Alexa responds and says, "Sorry, I don't know that."

Ha ha! I’ll have to watch 50 first dates again to see if mine does anything. That’s made me laugh. 😂

this takes me back to reading Little House in the Big Woods when Laura's Family made maple syrup. They also made maple sugar and in between, they made candy when her grandma came and poured shapes into their bowls and patty pans filled with snow which hardened the shapes. (Just in case you need to make maple sugar again and want to show that portion half way!)

Maple sugar? Never heard of it but I want some now!
I need a new stand mixer, though. I literally STILL use the one my children's father bought for me....29 years ago!! 😂
Don't make em like they used to...

I bought a new one a few years ago and it’s honestly in a cabinet. It lacked power big time. Mine is 26 years old and I spray painted it to be a color I wanted. You are right, they don’t make them like they used to.

We use it in oatmeal packs we make as well as tea. It’s a great sweetener even on berries.
