I bought a cheap BMW M5 Competition F90 from a previous mechanic after he noticed some structural damage that needed a specialist to fix. I decided to fix it myself but now im rebuilding it im starting to notice some of the smaller parts being more expensive than the bigger parts. If i can find a way to cheat BMW's pricing the build could still be worth the price.

This guy has two of the most ambitious and interesting repair jobs on YT and I'm all for it ❤️
Gt3, m5 comp, murci
You forget the Lambo??
My bad, 3 not 2 😅
@@S_G_B 635csi... on the backburner I guess considering all work his juggling already! 😉
M539 has him beat
You got to rate this guy work rate fixing a car in Florida flies home continues this build then gonna fly back to continue IT DOESNT STOP he deserves all the success
LOL
@@chrismasondarts why is that funny
think this might have been prerecorded mate
Not prerecorded as he had to come home for parts for the gt3
@@robertbutchart5292 well you’ll never know regardless he still works hard!
dude these repairs are insane. To take on this heavy machinery work with no fear is inspiring af. Keep climbing Mat!
Od,f
Yer maw’s yer da ya fud
You don’t need the radar on the front as your M5 doesn’t have the adaptive cruise control. You can tell by the two blanked out buttons on the left of the steering wheel. You also don’t need the lane change sensors as it all comes as part of the driver assistance package, which yours doesn’t have. Hopefully that’s saved you some money! Loving your content and especially this build!
And even if it did, get some blanking plates and it doesn't any more 😉
He probably knows already, it's just to get know it all's commenting and pushing him up the algorhthym
Make sure he sees this comment!!
@@C..C..C..C He already knows how to fix it you muppet he worked for Mallory performance and Graham Goode racing who were tuning cosworths since before you were born, he only asks silly questions so weirdos like you comment to increase the algorythm rankings, his dad has been a mechanic for 50 odd years you mug.
Someone tag Mat in this comment ;)
Love your dads excitement!
You should probably let him have the M5 as his runaround daily, may be excessive but he deserves it! xD
I second that - Daddy Amstrong deserves the beemer
Yeah man agree
100%
He deserves a truck!
Not with the noise and fuel consumption.
There is no adaptive cruise control on that M5, based on the 2 blank buttons on the left side of steering wheel @2.16. So just need the standard grill, it may also rule out the lane keep assist as they would most likely have to be specced together. So hopefully saves some money!
Spotted that myself 👍
Hopefully Mat reads this...I was going to say, radar is normally always an option.
Yeah, and the adaptive cruise normally comes as part of the technology plus pack which also adds the B&W speakers. Pretty sure I saw this car has the HK speakers so no adaptive cruise. Surprisingly rare on this car.
how nice is seeing mat and his dad get so well working together. Wish i had this relation with my father.
I love the happiness that Matt has after he solves every issue. It's really inspirational because fixing cars by DIY can be so disheartening without encouragement like this.
Thats what i was thinking. 😂 i felt depressed so many times and hes pure energy 😍
The cut out on the bumper its not ecu its a bracket for the blind spot and short distance radar sensor
And the middle one is for the long range radar sensors (adaptive cruise control) , you might find them in eBay used in good condition each is for 100 to 150 usd and the wiring harness normally go used for 60-80 usd
The short range radar sensors in most of the time dose not require calibration
But the long range radar requires a calibration most of the time or if it was un plugged , the calibration is easy not that hard
They are the same as the one used on the 7 series so they are available most of the time on ebay
Mat, your adaptive cruise control radars will need to be programmed and calibrated to the car if they are second hand or new, also because you are changing the ride height of the car the lane departure camera in the windscreen will need calibrating. I do this work daily and it’s needed for your safety and for the car to be fully operational when your driving. Myself and my dad work together as well it’s great seeing you both work as a team and definitely a daily driver for your dad 😉🤣
how much you charge for such job?
Are you talking about an ADAS calibration. If so then yeah he's gonna have to get a radar matched up with the vin of the car we had a crashed Honda crv and swapped out the radar, no matter how many times you tried to do adas calibration the car would still have waring lights, we eventually found out that the radar didn't match up with the cars vin. As soon as we put the original radar (which wasn't damaged) in it was happy and no errors. So yeah he would have to get it all re calabrated.
@@dc1564 yes mate ADAS calibration. If you change out any radar camera or LiDAR it will need to be coded to the car then calibrated once it’s been coded.
@@deanthomas3658 how much do you charge for an adas calibration?
@@dc1564 was going to comment the same....is this something that can be achieved using INPA NCS?
I found you, because i bought a used bmw x5 35d, as a woman, i do all the work myself. So based on my history, your rebuild showed up on my recommended list. Im so glad. Loving your series.
Had to smile when Matt went looking for the top attachment point for the rear shock absorber in the boot space. I made that exact mistake with my bog standard 5 series after it failed it’s MOT for a two inch piece of the coil spring having cracked off. In my case I was able to get at the top bolts by simply removing the speakers from the back shelf.
Mat's videos are so good that it feels like you're watching a 5min video. I never want it to end
True
I agree
Love seeing your dad on the channel!!! Some of us can only dream to have a dad like that 😅
I had a dad just like him, but he’s bed bound now with dementia and other issues 😢
Saw my dad leap with excitement like that ….. day I left home to live with the gf then wife.
Some of us dream of just having a Dad. Mine died when I was 4 and now I am 71
@@Dadeets ask yourself have you been a good boy!!!! If he was that Happy i Think not 😂😂😂
Love celebrating the small wins you smash out on these builds Mat. Your Dad's a real legend too, what a guy to have around and help with all his advice and knowledge.
i miss my dad when i see you working with yours. We always had fun working on cars and bikes. Enjoy those moments
That bleeding tool has been around for about 40 years, I'm surprised Mat doubted it would work. It's good to learn something new.
Yea I've still got mine, works every time
I love the relationship you have with your dad, he needs to be in more of your videos his reactions are priceless. You should do POV track day with his reaction or something similar.
As a mechanic myself, I admire the work that's getting into these cars that many, also myself, would eventually give up. Love your videos!
This channel is a breath of fresh air compared to all the other UA-camrs buying cars and making 17 min videos of them getting it washed PPF’d or driving it down the road for its annual day out at the MOT centre. Best channel by far
Not a car nerd at all..BUT the way you come across on channel and your videos your absolutely brilliant mate. Well done 👍
The skill you have to do this all by your own is crazy can’t wait for finished product !
The excitement of your pops in the background when you finally got a brake pedal was absolutely priceless! Much love from your friends across the pond!
This video was so satisfying....can't wait for part 5 now....Marlon South Africa 🇿🇦
Your dad is such a awesome guy I wished I had somebody like him
Never watched car restoration UA-camrs before. But your personality and the way you make videos enjoyable is great. Watched for a couple months now and nearly got through most of your backlog. Outstanding work and hope you hit 10 million subs
As an owner of the F90 M5 LCI, I watched all the episodes and knew my car in more detail. That is very helpful. Thank you for giving the car new life Mat.
I love to se you work with you Father and both smiling every second. Thank's for that great example!
The videos are never long enough! 😔 Honestly your energy is captivating. I lose track of the world around when watching these builds 😄 Keep it up Mat
Oh mate, you are knocking it out of the park! Well done on all you efforts and enthusiasm. I love how your Dad helps out, what a dude!
I really dig your problem solving in all your projects. It must give you huge amounts of satisfaction despite the problems you face. Huge props bro
Absolutely love your attitude and enthusiasm, keep those great vids coming! You sir are a joy to watch! 👍
The amount of background work this man put in is incredible over 1 week ago in US now back onto the M5 😮
I love this channel because Matt and his family are so real. His excitement is contagious.
I think after the GT3 you should do a rebuild for your old man! He deserves it for so many reasons! 🙌🏼
You need a front ACC (adaptive cruise control) radar and the 2 lane change modules. They also need to be coded at BMW (or using ISTA) and calibrated.
Crazy how Mat flew all the way from the US just to film a new episode of the M5 😆
it was to get parts for the gt3 as well.
This has fast became my favourite channel, great to see someone just diving in and not being scared to try something new and seeing you and your dad working together is awesome. Keep up the hard work and making these amazing videos
Mat, you’ve got an instinctive eye & brain of an inquisitive hunter. With no training except in the university of hard knocks, I reckon you “read” a layout better than most pro mechanics. Not to diss pro mechanics, but they’re taught entirely differently to the path of learning you’ve cut into the virtual forest of intimidating complexity. What I admire, perhaps more than any other trait of what you open yourself to let us see, is you’re completely unfazed response to any emerging situation. Many would have quailed at a few points in this build. Not you. Topping all this off is your winning cheerfulness. If I was nearby, I’d just want to help (not that you need it!). You create a good aura & I think that might be why people wish you well.
Reinforcing what Clarkson said recently, I recommend you fiercely guard your independence. If you trade access or editorial control to a corporate, even in exchange for a million pounds, it’ll be the beginning of the end of the MA we know & love (if you get what I mean!).
May the headwinds always be light & the dangers survivable.
i am addicted to not only these fixes and this channel, most of all its the in depth third person view of watching someone teach themselves. top job mr matt. thumbs up from Australia mate
When the lambo ,porker and m5 are finished you will have the ultimate rebuilt car collection ever massive respect mate inspirational doesn't start to describe what you've built for yourself.
Hey Mat. I found your channel by accident a couple of weeks ago and have been hooked ever since! This video in particular has been one I’ve been waiting for and kept me checking your uploads everyday! You’re smashing it man, keep up the good work.
Hi Mat. I love your enthusiasm with all the challenges that are thrown at you. Keep on Keeping on Mat. You have a fantastic relationship with your Dad & it's great to see. Cheers mate. Keep them coming!.
Great job on rebuilding the BMW M5 Competition so far, this car is so sick! The attention to detail and craftsmanship you performed so far is truly impressive. It's clear that you have a real passion for cars and it really shows. Keep up the amazing work Mat!
Hi Mat, I have been watching your channel for quite some time now, And you remind me of me when I was in my late teens early 20s learning on the job, I have still got one of those easy blades that I bought back in the late 70s early 80s, Can you put the great work it’s a joy watching you, I just wish that I had got something to tinker with , But it would not do me a lot of good as back in 2019 I got broken into and lost about £4000 worth of tools I could not replace them. I look forward to your next project it is a big learning curve even the most experienced mechanic can quite easily learn something every day. Phil from the Dark Side of the moulin France
Great build so far. On the F10 series you remove the rear speaker grill and speakers to access the shock bolts. I bet it's the same on the F90.
Idk what it is about you and your channel Matt but you’re inspiring me the most out of any channel to get on UA-cam and start making videos and see what comes out of it. Every time I watch your videos I get the urge to just do it. Thank you for your inspiration Matt.
7:23 BMW's first hybrid, created 5 mins after Frankenstein's monster using the same technology. Woweewahwoowah!
I can't stop myself from opening a video notification of yours immediately. Loving your content, Mat! ❤️
I've really been inspired by your passion for repairing and building cars. I love your work and I can't wait to see you finish building the BMW M5. Keep up the good works.
Your transition into the ads (sponsors) is excellent. I never see them coming. Been binge watching the M5 rebuild today. Your attention to detail, and video to prove it, will help make up any loss from the accident. Hopefully. ;-)
so wholesome to see you and your dad soo happy when the break worked haha love it
😁 Awesome work Mat and Dad! I love the way your Dad had all these little tricks up his sleeve! 👍
you can literally see the pure joy and happinnes that it brings Matt. It's nice to see that ♥
So much excellent progress was made by fixing one part. So glad this is going great. I cannot wait for the final build and finished product.
i thought i'll have a little look at one of your clip's? 3 hours later i'm still watching your repairs🤣 for someone who say's there not a proper mechanic you've knocked out some brilliant repaired cars...it's addictive watching. when you dropping the next m5 video...can't wait👍
Man I hate when these videos come to an end! I’m never ready to stop watching! By far my favourite content creator in the longest time! Keep up your amazing work Matt 🙏🏻
woah i acc thought we wouldnt get any updates on the murcielago or the m5 since hes in america but damn he came through with another m5 video to satisfy my mind absolute legend💥
I loved it when the EZ-Bleed did the trick - I’ve got one of those at the back of the garage (somewhere…)
The joy that comes across from you and your dad when you fix something is priceless ❤
aaah! i love this series! can’t wait for the finished product! love the realty of your videos, mat!
I love these cars, This car will blow the doors off an Lamborghini Aventador SV & SVJ. We did a track day and the stock 2022 M5 blew off everything on the track.
You have a career in the movie industry, Mat... your editing capability is insane... matching specific momemts with the music tone... amazing 👏🏾
Just finished binge watching over the space of a month all the way back from the TT, was gutted knowing I had caught up then boom another m5 episode 😁😁
You really know how to make someones Sunday great! Love your hustle man!
Got to be honest I’m not a great car lover when it comes to fixing cars or really doing anything with them but these vids From Mat get me hooked,Think I’ve watch every one 😂
Top job. I’m so impressed. The ecu boxes in the bumper are bumper corner short range radar for lane changing and the centre is the long range radar.
Wow,that sounds immense Mat, they'll hear you coming in that 👍
Welcome home mat! Great to see the m5 back on the screen again, even though that porsche is 🤤
Man I’m so addicted to Mats videos, they somehow inspire me to aim higher in life.
It’s the best feeling when being being stuck in a project and finding the solution. It’s very satisfying and fulfilling. People have to be in a situation like this to understand the satisfaction 😊
I just wanna say I been here since you had 15k subscribers you came so far mat and it’s amazing to see you on your journey so inspirational 🙌🏾
The missing blocks are the radar sensors used in lane assist and such like. Pretty much the same setup I have on my S Class Merc. They do come up on eBay quite often for the Merc, so maybe you'll get lucky with the BMW !!
I've rebuilt a few S Class's over the years and added the radar system onto a 2010 car. If yours already has the system in place, you will need to calibrate the front, centre sensor for definate, not sure about the side blocks though... Like Hannah, I'm not a BMW fan :)
I was also shouting for joy for the brake pedal 😂
Excellent journey thus far Mat!
Fantastic videos. Really enjoyed following this restoration. Love how excited mat is when the brakes work. I’ve mentioned Mat internally to my work as I believe we might be able to help with a tool for your workshop.
You can tell Mat loooooves what he does. The excitement every time something goes well 😁 it's infectious
Mate, the way you manage this channel is unreal. You stand out so far from the rest, your literally non stop. and I really hope you keep getting the viewing numbers you deserve.. unbelievable mat 👏🏻
Thanks a ton!
Look on the plus side Mat, You've basically got yourself a Tesla with a BMW badge, no brakes or gears just like a Tesla 😂🤣😂
Hi Mat
I'm probably not your typical viewer as at 57 I'm most likely older than most? I'd just like to say how much I enjoy your channels & your builds, you Hannah & your team always make your builds entertaining & informative. Unfortunately a year ago I was diagnosed with parkinsons disease & as a heavy truck mechanic had to give up my much loved career, but watching your builds gives me something to look forward to.
My partner Sally has written this for me, due to my issues, again, great work, great channel, keep it up.
Dave.
Mat, you are a source of joy, and it is great seeing you work with your dad.
Been waiting for this vid love the m5 competition and what a build this is love this channel
Hope to get a heart from the best mechanic I ever know
I'm sure u will brother, if not try and try again!💪👁👁👁🙏🙏👍💪💪💪
I got one in the last video, made my week ❤
❤️
Mechanic is stretching the envelope a bit far 😂😂
@@maverick4177 😂💔
Nobody else even comes close. There’s so many others who’ve been on UA-cam just as long if not linger following your style and ideas. Just goes to show your doing something right. Keep on going💪🏼
Lane assist sensors and acc radar you can buy second hands.. you can learn them in on the m5 , try to find out the right radar number and fix it. The cable u miss is not so expensive. You also need a bumper foam with a tube in it with 2 sensors on top.. that foam bar is for crash detection.
Good luck, try not to think so hard.. its only a bmw haha
Greetz
I'd be careful with the msport merch, might get you into some copyright issues
Hannah can hear you all the way back home with that loud exhaust 😄😄 so happy you found the problem with the brakes 👏👏 crazy how much technology goes into these cars and as always Matt keep the dream alive
Started following your channel only a month or so ago, and loved binge-watching your builds. Kind of gutting to have to wait a week between build videos now that I'm all caught up 😭🤣
Love the videos Mat, can't wait to see more progress 😎
Mat working with your dad is so cool, to create these memories are so precious cheers
Mat, your enthusiasm is infectious, you cheer me up and put a smile on my face with every new video.
Keep up the good work.
Once you fly buisness class, there is no going back, to the back!
Been following on this card repairs especially and my mind is totally blown away
Great work. The engine is running perfectly with the new exhaust pipes (nice sound) . You change there dampers by brand new springs . You are close t the end but like you point it out a lot of small parts are expensive. Hope you will find it in used-parts . The new exhaust is the fire of hell .
Dad's excitement for the brake pedal and the dance to the lift clicks. Having fun and doing an awesome job man! #highlights of PT4 :)
I just found your channel and I love it! Keep doing what you do mate!
Thank you Mat for sharing this positive energy in your videos
It's NOT the T-shirts that helps him with the build, but what he earns on 1.1m views. Smart thing to make repeat videos to make even more money 😁😁😁😁
I love these videos as I used to have a M5 in this colour. Regarding the expensive centre radar sensor, I don’t think you will need this. You have the same buttons on your steering wheel as I had and I did not have radar cruise control and my m5 did not have the centre radar sensor. You may need wiring to go to a front facing camera between the kidney grills, check your wing mirrors to see if they have cameras on the edge, if they do you’ll need a front camera
Keep that energy up, I’m from Saudi Arabia and I’ve managed to make the whole family watch you on dinner, we are all loving the hard work you putting even though my family knows nothing about car but for some reason they are loving the channel!!!!
I was braught up in this car, was a very dark black and i egged my dad on to do 100mph ( was about 13) he got clocked doing 99mph (30 now) but he wrote to them twice saying it was bs, somehow got away with it, couldn't this day n age, gotta know where/when its ok too speed and safely have fun, love your vids, idk where you got your inspiration from but your a role model for the youths today, congratulations m8
Amazing what you can achieve by just putting in the work required and with an awesome team. Well done so far!
Awesome video. Looking forward to the calibration of the sensors. Keep up the good work.
