I think the reason I love the story of this game so much more than the others is that Kaos actually would have succeeded if he hadn't betrayed the Darkness. For the first time in 5 games, he would have been victorious over the Skylanders, and yet, instead of seizing that chance, he turns on the Darkness and helps us stop him. And it didn't even feel out of character. It wasn't like he realized the error of his ways, he just realized that the Darkness didn't have his best interests in mind, and so he put an end to it. But even if he didn't do it for selfless reasons, he still saved Skylands, and that could have been the perfect catalyst for setting Kaos on the path to redemption; getting to finally experience a real victory, being accepted as an ally, albeit reluctantly, and having Glumshanks there to push him in the right direction. Then Imaginators comes along, and quite frankly ruins it. All the character development Kaos gets is pretty much reverted back to how he's always been, and it's like Superchargers never happened. The only thing that stayed consistent is that he can't use the power of the Darkness anymore and has to resort to Mind Magic instead. The brain also pissed me off a bit, (the whole "zombifying" thing was just annoying), and the ending pissed me off a lot. Despite saving Skylands the last time around, and despite Glumshanks being the nicest character in the series, both he and Kaos get thrown into the jar while the Brain, who is as much at fault as Kaos, if not moreso, gets to be made a Professor at the academy with no repercussions aside from a warning. Luckily, I've come up with how they could have solved these problems while still keeping the basis structure of the game. Allow me to explain: *_(TL;DR at the bottom of this paragraph)._* Instead of making Kaos the villain for the sixth time in a row, have him still at the Academy as the Ultimate Evil Consultant of Ultimate Evil. Have him work with Eon, albeit strenuously, to help guide our Portal Mastery progress and maybe even our Mind Magic, since he'd still have to find some alternative to the power of the Darkness. Then have the main villain be some sort of dark creature, and have him be the one to sneak into the Library to steak the book instead of a Doomlander (because I don't get how in the original game, Kaos made him without the book on Mind Magic, how the hell did that work?). When we confront him for the first time, he tells us the Darkness will return, and he'll be it's right hand man when it does. At this point, the first Doomlander can make an appearance, and that's how the first fight begins. When we get back to the Academy, have Kaos explain that this enemy is an old servant of the Darkness and how he suspects that this "usurper is trying to use Mind Magic to bring back that _stupid_ Darkness. Luckily for you all, you have your Ultimate Evil Consultant of Ultimate Evil to help you squash his pitiful attempts once and for all!" He'll explain that he'd been learning Mind Magic now that he doesn't have a connection to the Darkness, and that he can help us master creating our Imaginators, while Eon can handle the Portal Master side of things. Now, skipping to the introduction of the Brain: Rather than having him be some sort of pompous jerk, make him calculating and factual; and better yet, make him the Ancient who came up with the Dark Rift Engine. It would give an explanation to why he was cast out by the other Ancients, as well as giving a reason for the Dark Servant to seek him out. Have the game progress pretty much the same, but substituting certain things so they fit in line with this new goal. Then for the ending: Since the goal of the Dark Servant and the Brain isn't to rule over Skylands, there's no reason to turn everyone into zombies with no purpose. Instead, the final show of their power is to force the citizens of Skylands to start constructing a new Dark Rift Engine under the Brain's instruction. We get there just as the engine is completed, and it slowly starts creating a rift to the Dark Realm, where we see the Darkness peering through to us. He tells us "You fools really thought you could lock me here forever, didn't you? Kaos may have been a failure, but now you have no way of stopping me! Skylands is doomed and the Universe is mine! My Servant will destroy you once and for all!" The final boss battle begins with us fighting the Dark Servant in a new and improved form (like Kaos in the original), and as the battle continues, the rift in the background starts slowly opening wider, the Darkness trying to claw his way out. After 3 rounds, we finally defeat the Dark Servant, and just as the massive hand of the Darkness is reaching through, we destroy the Dark Rift Engine and he's sucked back inside, and the rift closes. *_(TL;DR: Keep Kaos as an ally who teaches us how to master Mind Magic, make the new villain a shadowy Servant of the Darkness trying to bring the Darkness back, have the Brain be the Ancient who made the Dark Rift Engine, and have the ending be us stopping them from letting the Darkness free.)_* Of course this is up for debate, but to me, this improves the game a ton, and all I technically did was make a new villain that ties back to the previous game, and give an actual purpose to the Brain other than to help Kaos make Doomlanders and zombies. It adds some much needed depth to the story that it was lacking. Because that really is Imaginators' problem. Imaginators had no real weight. It wasn't bad, and was enjoyable enough, but it didn't have much weight to it. And I feel like that could have been easily remedied. Thank you for attending my TED talk.
Now that I read thats exactly true on why imaginators felt like something was missing. The game feels like it went on another timeline where Kaos never helped you, which didn't make sense to me. I just hope that when they make a new skylanders game, it will follow up from where superchargers left off and left out imaginators like it never happened in the timeline, but still keeping those imaginator skylanders
I, too, feel like Imaginators shouldn't have been a thing. Not when I played it, of course, cuz I just wanted to play the games. But now, looking back at it, it kinda felt like a game like Sonic Forces. The game had character customization, which is a cool idea, but it lacks a good story that either could have been better or shouldn't be a part of the storyline at all. I also honestly thought Superchargers would've been the finale of the series, considering we fought the literal darkness, and Kaos is powerless. That was my favorite game because of the story and the Nintendo characters. But Imaginators didn't feel as fun than the games before that. With Spryo's Adventure through Superchargers, I had fun playing the games until there was nearly nothing left to do after completing the story. With Imaginators, I had fun for a bit, and got bored about halfway through the game. The only thing I enjoyed about Imaginators is that it introduced me to the Crash Bandicoot series for the first time, but other than that, Imaginators is a 5/10.

@XxMH_GurlxX I didn't play Imgainators because "the new" simply didn't look exciting. After the intense action-packed story of Superchargers, it felt a little tame to go back to Kaos being evil again and all he really does is just make goofy monsters. Unlike the last couple of games where he was a lot "cooler" per se and had clever plans. Besides the formula was always being switched up. For example, Giants had him wanting to take the Iron Fist to control the Arkeyeans, Swap Force had him wanting to corrupt Cloudbreak Island, Trap Team had him seeking out the Doom Raiders, and in Superchargers, he already won.
40:32 Kaos’ contemplation about his destiny is quite a surprising scene indeed. Especially after all of the trouble he intentionally caused. It’s even scarier when the Darkness grew impatient and bossed him around. I can see why Kaos flipped the switch last second, you can’t boss around with an emperor. I wouldn’t exactly say he completely redeemed himself at the end however…

I like treating this game as the real end of skylanders not only is kaos is closer than ever to winning and everything is at Steak the levels are also some of the most fun levels in the entire series this game is the true end of skylanders not Imaginators

This game was my childhood, although I may not be able to go back and play it since my Wiiu is probably dead. They were good times; I even watch the Netflix series.
It's awesome that Bowser and Donkey kong and their voices are in a game where Richard Horvitz, Patrick Warburton, and Tom Kenny are voicing it. I hope more games have that kind of stuff, probably won't happen, but I can dream.
I really don't get why so many people hated this game. Sure it had some flaws, but as a game i thought it was pretty solid. I wasn't the biggest fan of the idea of vehicles, but it was pretty well executed, and the execution can make or break any idea in games. Their were some great levels too such as Monstrous Isles and vault of the Ancients. But the story is where this game really excels in my eyes. They went for a much darker tone and nailed it. It truly made you feel like you were fighting against all odds to save the world.

Mysterious Voice If they combined the great dark type of story they had in superchargers with the concept of senseis and imaginators, it could make for an awesome game. And if they added in new senseis, I'm hoping for the rest of the doom raiders , and my favorite villain : Spellslamzer.

I thought traptanium could only be broken by a crystal weapon. It was real suprising to see Glumshanks get the boot and later saving the gang from an early death. I really liked Pandergast’s introductions for the Ridepocalypse bosses, and growing giant to storm the Mosterous Isles like old school Godzilla. I also like it when they make Patrick Warburton say “headquarters” and “cabanas”. The Darkness might be the most dangerous force in Skylands (apart from the ancients), but is it the most dangerous force in the universe? Just imagine, he goes out after eating skylands but then gets instantly defeated in one shot.

There is a comic book called rift into overdrive which is a prequel to this game that explains how he escaped from the trap. It’s because a piece of the darkness helped him escape.
The whole concept of Kaos finally taking over Skylands and making the story dark was truly epic. But having the whole idea of it being car-based was just eh. It should’ve been a reprise of Spyro’s Adventure/Giants, and should’ve been the final game.
The final boss could have been amazing, maybe have some platforming sections and not just use a land vehicle, heck it would have been awesome to see our allies help out someway to defeat the darkness
Maybe they could have a car section and a foot section against the darkness instead of just beating it in a car. (the foot section coming after the car section)

This might just be the best story of any skylanders game. It really feels like a culmination of everything, pulling lorr and characters from all the games (except most of the ssa characters) Superchargers also had some of the best visuals across the series AND the best soundtrack of them all! And yet, it did badly cause of the main gimmick being f*cking racing, taking away from both the story and interrupting gameplay. Like- we were facing off against the real big bad of the series, the actual darkness, and we beat it by going "zoom zoom" Also almost every level had some weird gimmick like fog, magnets, size stuff, ect. Honestly the new skylander designs and especially the returning skylanders are all so cool and the game deserves so much more than what it got.

when i was a wee lad, i was obsessed with cars like hot wheels, when superchargers came out, this became my 2nd favorite skylander game.

There is a comic book called rift into overdrive which is a prequel to this game that explains how he escaped from the trap. It’s because a piece of the darkness helped him escape.

The whole concept of Kaos finally taking over Skylands and making the story dark was truly epic. But having the whole idea of it being car-based was just eh. It should’ve been a reprise of Spyro’s Adventure/Giants, and should’ve been the final game.

This might just be the best story of any skylanders game. It really feels like a culmination of everything, pulling lorr and characters from all the games (except most of the ssa characters)
Superchargers also had some of the best visuals across the series AND the best soundtrack of them all!
And yet, it did badly cause of the main gimmick being f*cking racing, taking away from both the story and interrupting gameplay. Like- we were facing off against the real big bad of the series, the actual darkness, and we beat it by going "zoom zoom"
Also almost every level had some weird gimmick like fog, magnets, size stuff, ect.
Honestly the new skylander designs and especially the returning skylanders are all so cool and the game deserves so much more than what it got.
