It is an organization to facilitate coordination between nations. Every country in the world, from the US to China are self interest. What would be the source of power is a majority rule in the security council? Say they all agree on something, the US doesn't. The majority prohibits the US from doing something and the US does it anyway. What now? A world war? That's what is being prevented via veto decisions. But let's put this aside. Any nation that want to take action on defense of Palestine for example, can just do it. Through the security council, they want the entire world to act on their behalf? And who is even in the security council other than the permanent members? What does Mozambique know about middle east politics? What does Japan know?
