Nice instructional video! I'm retired now after 45 years in the HVAC&R business and the little trick you demonstrated with using the two conductor control wire for a wire tie to tidy things up a bit is an excellent idea! Better than tape, zip ties, or nothing at all! We are all constantly learning new ideas and methods to make the industry better for everyone, good job, thank you!
Great Job and good Video I'm 63 yrs old been in the Field since 17 and always Learning everyday ,just like I used to say I've seen it all in this Industry but still learning and admire all the young guys coming up and keeping the Trade going on
Dude I’m an new hvac tech. These things scared crap out of me. Now i have a much better understanding of it. Thank you so much. I should send you a check.
I’ve been working in air conditioning and refrigeration for over 20 years, and I just wanted to tell you that this is a video that has really helped me a lot. I’ve watched this video twice, the first time I watched it I thought it was too complicated and would turn side jobs down that involved zone dampers. So I decided to give it another try and now it seems so easy, I’ve been watching more of your videos and just wanted to let you know that you are very professional and one of the best technicians that I’ve came across on UA-cam . Thank you for uploading videos like these that really help people out.
Just had this system drop in my lap today, 1st time I've ever installed one. Boss said Goodluck and sent me out the door. Thank you very much had it up and running in no time. This video saved me today. Not sure I'm gonna tell that, I'll just let him wonder. But thanks again
Hey man I didn’t know much about a zone system before watching your video because I don’t commonly run into systems having zones. You did an awesome job explaining this. I have a service call tomorrow for a zoning system and I’m much more confident going into it after watching this video. Way to keep it Simple!
Thanks Bro. You got out of a jammer. been doing this for 5 years with the same employer and like Yosemite Sam never ever is there any training. I get it now. Thank you again
You have no idea how much you helped me!!! Thank you for an awesome walkthrough! If I watched this yesterday today wouldn't have been the day from Hell it was! Thanks again!
Very advanced boards now with thermostats even room based Bluetooth now. Here in Australia some zone control units are plug in to 240 with onboard voltage control and the damper/zone motors use cat5 or RJ connection for signal. Does the bypass use a pressure sensor and motor gate or is it just a passive spring return based in duct pressure? Its only really an issue on multi level systems where you get temperature fluctuations.
Great video; very intuitive! Wish all videos were this detailed. The only other thing I wanted to see was how to adjust the dampers to full closed since I think my dampers might be leaking a little bc I can feel a little airflow going to my second floor when I have zone 1 on my first floor ON. I thinking after 8 years it might slipped and might not be fully closed as I feel there’s approximately 20-25% leakages on the closed zone.
does the board have enough power to power two damper controllers at the same time? I'm researching now and some people are suggesting getting a voltage controller if you need to run multiple damper motors.
I need help, so I see that on the right side of board the thermostat on top has C wire and the bottom t-stat is doesn’t not have the C terminal connected. Can you explain why? Thanks!
Excellent vid. How many dampeners can u run on the transformer. I have a setup that has no separate trunks for upstairs and downstairs so would need to dampner each supply run
Quetion on the advanced settings. As you discussed low temp setting you seemed to indicate you were lowering the stiing because you wanted the heat pump to continue to run on cooler days and lower outside temps. Isn't this limit setting really to prevent freezing in the coils by turning off the cooling when the discharge air temp temp at the limit the temp of the air
Hi nice video. just a question about the low limit setting you covered in the section on the advanced settings. You mentioned wanting the heat pump to run on cooler days where the outside temp was lower. But isnt the point on that low level limit setting to stop cooling and prevent coil freeze when it reaches the discharge air temp setting. I am wondering because i have mine set at 45 and noticed that when outside air goes below 50 my system seems to go to the aux heat. I have heat pump checked out and it is fine but seems to shut off at 45 ish.
Thanks for that video bro! I appreciate you, I see you’re sweating and I’m guessing you recorded that when it’s hot asf up there. This video definitely gave me an idea to what to expect on a zoned system
The zone board does not send power to the t stats. But I think I know what your meaning. If the zone board is not detecting when the thermostats are calling for cool or heat there’s either a problem with the wiring, or the board is bad. Make sure your thermostat is calling for cooling and Check the wires coming into the board at Y and C at the same time.
Great video bud. Can you answer a couple of questions? 1. So as the dampers close off , it’s like choking down the duct..... is there a static pressure sensor to control the bypass damper? 2. Does the DAT sensor open non calling rooms to regulate the dat when it gets near the limits? 3. Are the actuators open or closed no modulation? Also are the spring return? Thanks
So is zone 1,2,3 For each floor? I have a 3 story house and my basement doesn’t have any ducts. How am I supposed to bring the ducts down to the basement?
Normally when a house is 3 stories, you can zone 2 floors and have a 2nd system in either the attic or basement. So you can zone floor 3 and 2 and have a single system for the basement. It would be very hard and expensive to get ducts down to the basement from the attic
My HZ311 doesn't come up at all, no light, however I confirm we have 24v in it and all thermostats are coming up on their screen, what can be the problem? is there any fuse or reset button on this device? tnx
thanks. it would be better to show overall design, each damper controls sqft and floor#. I see you you have four zones but HZ322 is 3-zone kit? you also has AC and bypass damper right? you can add a list for these info also component model# and link.
So I really feel my zoning system is not installed properly I feel the wiring is messed up and I’ve had so many company’s come out and quote me so much I don’t know what else to do because the wires are just all over the place
Does the damper completely shuts off the air to one place when closed ? In my second floor i have 3 bedrooms but sometimes only one bedroom is been used ,is this system helps to have complete control of where the air goes , i have central ac ,and was thinking of mini splits for this reason ,control of which rooms get ac ,and will this help save on electricity or this is not the purpose of this system ? thanks
These are more in sections or (Zones) like up stairs and down stairs. Not really for room by room. And mini splits are expensive especially if u are putting one in every room. You would be alot better off going with a zone like this. U can set them up also to do like left side or right side of the house
And it sounds like you have a damper problem if there are only one room cooling and others are not. Or it could be wired wring. Check if when you turn on the down stairs tstat the up stairs rooms start to blow then
Question I have a 3 story home with 2 ac units one ac controls 3 zones and the other controls 2 each zone with its own thermostat right now it uses an old trol a temp Honeywell cronotherm iii. I am looking to upgrade the thermostats what is the best way. Any thoughts
Informative video. I have a question, I just purchased a home and the sensor we as not attached to any hole it was just left out. Does that affect the functionality of my system?
I keep seeing these damper videos but no one is letting me know how to set one. I have this DuroZone remote damper on my wall upstairs only one thermostat on the first floor. When I brought the house it was there. We brought a new system 8000.00 and the guy that installed it didn’t know what it was. I don’t believe we needed a new unit. But I have looked at a lot of videos, but no one has yet to tell me what to put the wall damper on for summer? Open 1/3 2/3 closed? Any help will do.
Thanks for the video, very informative. Looking to adding this to my system at home. I have a 2 story 2200sq.ft. home. What dampers did you use? Do you still recommend them? I could see they're also honeywell, what's the model number. I got the HZ322 on the zone board already. TIA.
If you choose the Honeywell there fine too. The model number will relate to what size duct it's connecting to. So example, if it's a 12" duct, it would be a Honeywell ARD12. Just change to number for the different sizes.
Did you really mount the transformer on top of the Burner cover? Hot. Hot. Hot. Also, now the door-safety-switch won't kill power to the zoning system. Why not mount the transformer in the blower control panel and tie it to the TRNFMR terminals like every other tech in the world?
Nice instructional video! I'm retired now after 45 years in the HVAC&R business and the little trick you demonstrated with using the two conductor control wire for a wire tie to tidy things up a bit is an excellent idea! Thank man! Glad you liked it. To help me out, please subscribe!!
Please tell me I see 3 terminal. M1 - M4 - M6 why you connect only 2 wire
Great Job and good Video I'm 63 yrs old been in the Field since 17 and always Learning everyday ,just like I used to say I've seen it all in this Industry but still learning and admire all the young guys coming up and keeping the Trade going on
Just new in the industry if you have a work email that would be helpful, dampers are complicated buisness
You can email me @ hvactechtips22@gmail.com
Dude I’m an new hvac tech. These things scared crap out of me. Now i have a much better understanding of it. Thank you so much. I should send you a check.
There is still lots to learn that are important like controlling damper speed which I'm still trying to figure out on mine.
I’ve been working in air conditioning and refrigeration for over 20 years, and I just wanted to tell you that this is a video that has really helped me a lot. Still a good video, today in 2023~ Thank you!!

This guy is a genius!
😂 👍🏻
Amazing stuff, great job explaining the process,
thank you for this video.
Thanks Bro. You got out of a jammer. been doing this for 5 years with the same employer and like Yosemite Sam never ever is there any training. I get it now. Thank you again
I’m glad I could help! FYI, I think you should find a new employer
Great video, thank for taking the time to show us the way!
I'm installing my first zoned system tomorrow. Your video helped me a bunch. Thank you.
You have no idea how much you helped me!!! Thank you for an awesome walkthrough! If I watched this yesterday today wouldn't have been the day from Hell it was! Thanks again!
Man, I appreciate you tremendously.
Thank you so much. This is VERY helpful as I try to switch from AprilAire zone board to Honeywell
Hello sir.i want said thank you for your time and is a good video
Thank you, this video was really helpful.
I have been looking for a video like your for months. Thank you.
Great video, helped me on my 1st installment.
Loved your presentation man. I’ll be installing my HZ322 tomorrow and this helped a whole lot 😊
Awesome. I'm glad it helped you

Good video bro
Awesome video! Someone forget to put the door panel on before brazing ;)

Some times they allow dampers to be partially opened for Static pressure relief.

Excelente bravo…
I need help, so I see that on the right side of board the thermostat on top has C wire and the bottom t-stat is doesn’t not have the C terminal connected. Can you explain why? Thanks!
Do those damper motors have a ground or neutral wire? I see you only installed 24volt wires , didn't mention any ground wire or common neutral wire..
Bro this helped me alot lol thanks brotha
Great video!!!
Great video and explanation!
Excellent vid. How many dampeners can u run on the transformer. I have a setup that has no separate trunks for upstairs and downstairs so would need to dampner each supply run
i always break the Y with my pan switches so you dont lose fan in case of freezing, not to mention heat in case of switch failure
Great job
Thank you
Good job
Great video greatly appreciated!!
How do I know where the air sensor goes? I see techs here wire to the outdoor unit. I haven't seen it wired above the evaporator coil before. cheers
Nice thanks

Thanks a lot I am junior tech and this is amazing help 4 me thanks
Glad it helped.
Why did you set the board on Heat Pump when the thermostats don't control a reversing valve?
This is so cool. Thank you so much. I have got Bosh/inverter system, are there specific zoning board for different furnaces?
Will the HZ322 work with smart thermostat that requires C wire?
Thanks for that video bro! I appreciate you, I see you’re sweating and I’m guessing you recorded that when it’s hot asf up there. This video definitely gave me an idea to what to expect on a zoned system
😍😍😍 thanks man!!!

Great man.
The zone board has slots, top and bottom to bring wires into tie in with a place to use a pull tie to secure them.
Wow. Thanks

2. Does the DAT sensor open non calling rooms to regulate the dat when it gets near the limits?
3. Are the actuators open or closed no modulation? Also are the spring return?
Thanks
Usually a bypass damper is weighted and opens and closes as needed.
How do you size the bypass damper and what opens and closes the bypass damper?
I have a Trane system, do I need a Trance tech to install this?
So is zone 1,2,3 For each floor? I have a 3 story house and my basement doesn’t have any ducts. How am I supposed to bring the ducts down to the basement?

Hey man quick question, how would you wire 2 zones on one thermostat on cooling mode? If you know would be able to post a diagram
Thanks!

Your welcome. Glad I could help
Does the damper completely shuts off the air to one place when closed ? And it sounds like you have a damper problem if there are only one room cooling and others are not. Or it could be wired wring. Check if when you turn on the down stairs tstat the up stairs rooms start to blow then
Does one zone take priority over the other? Like if zone 2 is running then zone 1 calls for heat does 2 shut so 1 can run?
Which ever one commands first and satisfys is how the boardworks
Question I have a 3 story home with 2 ac units one ac controls 3 zones and the other controls 2 each zone with its own thermostat right now it uses an old trol a temp Honeywell cronotherm iii. I am looking to upgrade the thermostats what is the best way. Any thoughts
Informative video. I have a question, I just purchased a home and the sensor we as not attached to any hole it was just left out. Does that affect the functionality of my system?
No. It will not effect it but it will not be able to cut off the system if the air temp gets too cold or hot
One question mine docent turn on at all and my ac seem to be on direct why it’s not turning on ?
DATS = Discharge Air Temperature Sensor
I keep seeing these damper videos but no one is letting me know how to set one. I have this DuroZone remote damper on my wall upstairs only one thermostat on the first floor. When I brought the house it was there. We brought a new system 8000.00 and the guy that installed it didn’t know what it was. I don’t believe we needed a new unit. But I have looked at a lot of videos, but no one has yet to tell me what to put the wall damper on for summer? Open 1/3 2/3 closed? Any help will do.
For the summer, you will need to keep the upstairs fully open. Then in winter you can adjust to your comfort.
HVAC Tech Tips Thank- You so much.
Can a single next control the Honeywell zone board with zone dampers? Do you have a video for that?
No. For it to work correctly, there needs to be at least 2 thermostats
Thanks for the video, very informative. Looking to adding this to my system at home. I have a 2 story 2200sq.ft. home. What dampers did you use? Do you still recommend them? I could see they're also honeywell, what's the model number. I got the HZ322 on the zone board already. TIA.
Honestly after a few years since this video, I really like EWC over the honeywell
If you choose the Honeywell there fine too. The model number will relate to what size duct it's connecting to. So example, if it's a 12" duct, it would be a Honeywell ARD12. Just change to number for the different sizes.
On the 2 wires on the zone..is it common and close Is their a jumper needed for open
It depends on the type of damper. These dampers are normally open so it needs power to close and common
When you add another transformer , do you remove red power wire from the equipment side ?
I did't know you could gang (or daisy chain) multiple dampers to a single zone. Am I correct in that assessment?
Yes
Where are you located? I need one and will fly you in if you're not too far from Atlanta area.
I’m in Dallas Ga
I was kind of hoping to see the actual damper installation
How many 24volt wires and ground require one damper?
2-3
Couldn’t you use the low voltage out the furnace C for the board
Did you really mount the transformer on top of the Burner cover? Hot. Hot. Hot. Also, now the door-safety-switch won't kill power to the zoning system. Why not mount the transformer in the blower control panel and tie it to the TRNFMR terminals like every other tech in the world?
