Lol, to me the original Black Christmas is a grade A+. Top 10 for sure. It's simple yet effective. Very few movies manage to creep me out the way that movie does. Even though it's from the 70s, I think it out does many modern movies in what is considered over done and cliché today. I would agree that it's kind of slow, but I do love the suspense and tension it has. I also love how progressive the movie was. I mean having a final girl deal with a serious social issue is top notch and something modern horror movies have rarely done. There was a video I watched where they analyzed the feminist aspects of the movie and the final girl, and it made me love the movie even more.
As someone who loves the original Black Christmas, I feel people are negating the actual story and characters given in the movie. The girls are the reason Black Christmas is my favorite slasher movie! I feel in love with them from the beginning. And to talk about your comments regarding how "certain parts could've been trimmed off", I feel those parts make way for character moments. I feel with Horror, we should at least give a damn about the characters, making the horror scenes all the more gripping. That's the reason Dream Warriors is my, and I'm sure many other's, favorite in the franchise. In the original, besides Nancy and maybe Glen, I never cared much about the characters in the OG Elm Street....The inverse completely occurred when I watched Dream Warriors. And I feel that sometimes we think too much about the technical aspects of a film that we negate the characters and story. They should be the focus of stories of any kind. That's why I lower my eyebrows when you talked about The Exorcist, Black Christmas and Dream Warriors. It's all talk-talk-talk about the filmmaking, what about the actual story and characters? The characters might be the most important part of a story TO YOU but when technical aspects of a film aren’t tended to well enough, it can be really distracting and take me out of a film. So yea I “talk talk talk” about it because without those elements being good, I usually find a movie more difficult to watch. Being professionally trained to what is and is not up to an industry standard, I can’t just ignore those things unfortunately.
@@HauntedHippie fair enough. At the end of the day for me, you can have the prettiest “professional” looking movie, but if you don’t give me an actual story and characters...you’ve lost me. One film that epitomizes this is Kubrick’s adaptation of Stephen King’s The Shining. The film looks great, but the characters are non existent and it can get boring because of that. I think that can be an explanation as to why people don’t like Hereditary and such.
@@ryanoseguera1207 well yea it’s hard to find movies that are actually well rounded and are excellent in every department. A lot of the time you’ll only have one part of the film that’s a technical standout like for Halloween it’s the cinematography or for The Thing it’s the practical effects. I’d say there are very few movies that actually have both gorgeous artistry in the technical department and a good story/characters to go with it.

The Blair Witch Project's second and third act are literally just annoying city folk crying in the woods for forty five minutes. I understand it was the foundation for the genre to come but goddamn is that first movie just a fucking headache.
4:19 Honestly, I 100% agree with that sentiment. The Rob Zombie Halloween movies, along with Season of the Witch and Curse of Michael Myers are all at the bottom of the barrel, but I won't judge those who like the movies.
Have you seen "Kill list" yet? "Hereditary" and "The Empty Man" (both great movies) but i feel like they both borrowed or were influenced by K.L. Just curious if any avid horror movie watchers, such as yourself, noticed this?
I feel iffy about Jason just because of how much more he’s been through. I feel like Jason is more creature than man at this point lol. With Freddy I have no idea, I feel like his tricks wouldn’t work on Michael because Michael is so vacant and dead set on killing whatever is in front of him. I think he could definitely beat leatherface
These are my horror opinions *I did not like The Babadook *I do enjoy Halloween Resurrection and Freedys Dead: The Final Nightmare even though there not good movies but guilty pleasures *My favorite Final Destination movie is part 5 * I like Scream 3 better than Scream 2 *Wes Cravens New Nightmare is my favorite Nightmare on Elm street movie * I do also enjoy House of Wax * I think Rob Zombie's Halloween 1+2 are the Worst in the Franchise
Im contradicting myself a little bit here but first, i prefer three of the Jason’s well over Kane Hodder. Not a bad Jason I just don’t think he’s the best especially compared to C.J Graham and Ted White. Second (this is where I’m contradicting myself) but Jason takes Manhattan is one of the best and most unique Friday’s out there. I kind of get the hate but I have a blast with it every time I play it
Omg I totally agree. I don’t understand how people just wanted more and more of crystal lake, I’m so happy they were finally in a different more interesting location. I like Jason takes Manhattan a lot more than most friday movies
@@HauntedHippie agreed! I like the change from crystal lake. I get it has its flaws but I think it no where as bad as everyone says it is I’ve always had an awesome time with it. I actually prefer Manhattan over Friday 3 and a good amount of the other ones. If I made a ranking it would probably fall on either 6 or 5 on my list
Man I gotta tell you, I may not agree with all of your opinions (Or particularly stand behind the rationales) But that is a stark secondary aspect compared to how entertaining you are. Seriously digging all the content that you’re putting out man
I Loved All Of These Controversial & Yet Commonly Conventional Comments Everyone Has. It's One Of The Reasons Why I Do Enjoy The Overall Horror Genre So Much. I Will Say Though, The Commenter Who Said Horror Movies Are So Overrated.. While I Respect His Or Her Opinion On That, I Honestly Don't Think So. The Horror Universe Is So Conventional To The Point Where You Can Do Absolutely EVERYTHING With The Genre. So I Love To Think That All Types Of Horror Films Are Such A Time Capsule Of Any Genre Out Here In The World & Whether People Who Aren't Into Horror Or Love Horror, At Some Point, They Have Look At This Genre Open-Mindedly Enough To Admire & Respect/Agree To This Sentiment. I'm Sure Almost Anyone Would Agree With Me On That. I Loved This Video & All Of Your Reactions/Perspective Opinions On Everyone's Comments, It Was Really Fun. And The Comment About The Child's Play Series Being Overrated, Like You, I Also Disagree On That Statement. The Original As Well As The Original Nightmare On Elm Street Were So Groundbreaking Back Then. As Much As I Love My Masked Killers Like Michael & Jason, Freddy & Chucky Were The Ones Who Brought So Much Uniqueness & Originalities To The Table Of The Horror Genre Before The Genre In General Could Massively Experiment Later On For Years To Come.
@@HauntedHippie I Would Say The Closest Of Conversations You Could Have With People About Another Genre Besides Horror Is Definitely Sci-Fi. Like Horror, You Can Imagine Greater Than What's Typically & Traditionally Expected.
Scout Taylor-Compton is the reason I like Halloween 2.. she did an incredible job of portraying someone who's suffering from PTSD.. I 100% understand why people hate the film though because I originally hated it too, but it grew on me.. House of a 1000 Corpses is worth checking out even though I personally don't love it.. I love how it starts and I was really into it but then it makes a sharp left turn and almost feels like a completely different movie.. I've only seen it once though and I've still never seen Devil's Rejects even though it's been on my radar forever..
i get where rob zombie is coming from in terms of his "vision" but i just can't get behind it. house of 1,000 corpses i kind of like, in theory, but in execution, the editing is like a music video at times, there's scenes in the movie with zero context or role in the universe, and one scene in particular, you'll know when you see it, is straight up poor film making with how LONG it is , it makes zero sense.
House of 1000 Corpses was nasty af. I somehow finished it. I turned the sequel off after 20 minutes, lol. I'd love to see your reaction to the first one.
I know it sounds bizarre but I kind of understand where the person at 5:57 is coming from. I'd only say a handful of horror films are actually fantastic, the majority of them are only average or slightly below (That just might be because I've seen the wrong ones though 😂) I completely agree with the majority of your responses to these. Just out of interest though, what is it that makes you agree that the Exorcist is overrated but not the others? Not having a go, just interested how you differentiate. My unpopular horror opinions: Jump scares aren't inherently good or bad, just depends how they are used. The Lighthouse focused more on symbolism than telling a story. I guess I use the term "Overrated" incorrectly too, but for The Exorcist, John Carpenter's The Thing and The Blair Witch Project, I found the hype massively outweighed my enjoyment for them. I prefer Red Dragon over Silence of the Lambs & Exorcist III over Exorcist. Not saying they are better made films, just get more enjoyment out of them. I haven't enjoyed any version of "It" yet. I actually think The Boy is a great horror film. Would it be right to say that's underrated? Rosemary's Baby is my favourite horror film ever (I didn't even know about the controversy surrounding it until I watched one of your other videos)
There are a lot of classic films that also don't hold up as well but there's something very defining about them that still holds up in some capacity. Like Halloween, which I love to death but will admit has aged pretty horribly. The exception is the cinematography which was both groundbreaking for the time and still holds up against some modern films. And then there's The Thing which surprisingly, most elements about it (acting, practical effects, etc) have held up for 40 years. With the Exorcist, there's nothing that even holds a candlestick to modern filming standards. When it comes to observing it in the time it was released, it was not overrated in the slightest. It nauseated audiences and made its place in horror history. I'm only speaking about today's standards. And not in terms of entertainment value, purely from a filmmaking perspective. You're absolutely right about The Lighthouse and I kind of go back and forth with how I feel about calling it a "good film" because it's lacking in a lot of areas but the intention wasn't to make a typical movie. I think The Boy is certainly underrated. It was a gorgeous film, a lot of attention went into framing every shot, the production design was phenomenal, I would say the acting was decent, and the story was extremely structured and well told. Rosemary's Baby is hard for me because it's an excellent movie but it's just too tainted for me now
@@HauntedHippie Wow, thank you for responding to me in such a comprehensive way! Funnily enough with Halloween, I was only thinking to myself the other day that despite it being one of my favourite horror films (Maybe even top 5) I could totally understand why someone might say they think it's "Overrated". I never would've been able to articulate it in such an in depth way as you did but I'm totally with you on everything you said about the Exorcist. In terms of entertainment value, I have watched the Exorcist many times over the years and never really got much out of it, but last time I watched it (around a year ago) it was a very different experience and it had more an affect on me than it ever had previously. I've heard the "It was good for it's time" argument made to death, especially from people who weren't there at the time! 😂 Interestingly, I saw a review on IMDB from someone who claimed to see it when it came out and they didn't even like it then (Granted, that's one person's opinion, still goes to show that not everyone was massively affected back then though) I also agree about having to base things by today's standards, and I also think you can't just take the practical/production side of things into consideration, you have to take overall enjoyment into it too, same applies with The Thing. I just didn't connect with that film in the same way a lot of people do, though I'd never say it's a less than good film and can understand why people rate it so highly! I really need to watch the Lighthouse again, I thought it was naff when I watched it but upon reflecting, and hearing other people's thoughts and theories, it's kind of made me rethink some things. I don't want to pay for it, again, so hopefully it'll appear on Netflix sometime soon.. 🤣 Glad to hear you say the same about The Boy, loads of people slate it and I don't understand why! I also think the twist is especially good, which is something people criticise it for. I actually went in knowing what the twist was going to be and thought everything leading up to it actually fits in with it. I understand that with Rosemary's Baby! Would/have you ever done a video for your top horror movies?
Really well liked and positively received NOW, but it's taken decades for it to build its reputation. People thought it sucked when it was released and it was a huge bomb.
@@HauntedHippie damn we really disagree on a lot of stuff haha. But honestly I don’t mind that, it would be boring if I agreed with UA-camrs on everything
@@123rockfan Yeah, but as Kylie said it's completely groundbreaking in a way that still holds up even by present standards. The fact that it reached a high level appreciation doesn't mean it's "overrated", it has a reputation for a reason. The person didn't like it, that's not the same as it being overrated.
I guess I should have given reasons for why I thing The Ring and The Thing are overrated. To me, The Ring is boring and unscary. A lot of people think The Ring is one of the scariest movies ever and I just completely don't understand why anyone can think that. And I do like The Thing, but I do not understand the constant praise it gets. Those thing designs are completely stupid looking. They are overrated to me because I do not fall in the popular opinion for either of those movies. And as for Halloween goes, it is very over talked about (at least the first one)
RZ Halloween 2 is trash no doubt buuuut I’m getting worried, I rewatched Halloween Resurrection recently for the first time in years and actually enjoyed it. It’s semi enjoyable haha
You know what, I'd say a video is probably needed on exorcist 1973. Yes, lets talk about it! I don't like that some people are ignoring that you have a degree in film and that you're educated on that topic. Pretty rude and insulting

Cheesy stupid horror is necessary lmao ALTHOUGH I think the remake from house of wax it’s not cheesy or stupid , it’s actually a solid film . Much better than the original . Yes that Rob Zombie H2 statement wasn't even worth finishing 😂
I just can’t really engage with those comments. It goes against every fiber of my being to reason with people that think that’s a good movie
@@HauntedHippie for real. That and the new Grudge are the only two movies I walked out on in theaters.
Yes do part 3 please.
The Rob Zombie Halloween movies, along with Season of the Witch and Curse of Michael Myers are all at the bottom of the barrel, but I won't judge those who like the movies.
*top of the barrel
Have you seen "Kill list" yet? "Hereditary" and "The Empty Man" (both great movies) but i feel like they both borrowed or were influenced by K.L. Just curious if any avid horror movie watchers, such as yourself, noticed this?
Well all movies tend to borrow from other movies in their genre, but that’s one I haven’t seen!
I think that most slasher movies with nutity are mostly directed by masoginist sorry if I spelled that wrong I'm only 14
to the person that said that the 2020 Grudge movie was their favorite horror movie of all time I just found that really funny Lmao
I think Michael would beat Jason, Freddy (real world only) and leatherface. Fight me!
Jason takes Manhattan and Jason X are the best two films in the Friday the 13th franchise
I can understand for Jason X because of all the fun it is. But for Jason takes Manhattan… uhhhhhhhhhhh….
These are my horror opinions
*I did not like The Babadook
*I do enjoy Halloween Resurrection and Freedys Dead: The Final Nightmare even though there not good movies but guilty pleasures
*My favorite Final Destination movie is part 5
* I like Scream 3 better than Scream 2
*Wes Cravens New Nightmare is my favorite Nightmare on Elm street movie
* I do also enjoy House of Wax
* I think Rob Zombie's Halloween 1+2 are the Worst in the Franchise
The thing is better than majority of the Friday the 13th films
Hard agree, I think it’s better than all of them haha
@@HauntedHippie The Thing had great acting, great effects, great character development and explored themes of paranoia and distrust
But you and me can agree that the ring is the best horror movie of all time
Man I gotta tell you, I may not agree with all of your opinions (Or particularly stand behind the rationales) But that is a stark secondary aspect compared to how entertaining you are.
Yea it’s been so fun seeing all these wacky opinions! You don’t get to have conversations like these with a lot of other genres
@@HauntedHippie I Would Say The Closest Of Conversations You Could Have With People About Another Genre Besides Horror Is Definitely Sci-Fi.
Like Horror, You Can Imagine Greater Than What's Typically & Traditionally Expected.
@@ShyheemOfTheDead yea definitely! I want to have more stars wars/marvel related conversations on my channel at some point
If I got possessed the only person that can perform the exorcism would be you you would get the demons right out of me keep up the good work
Wow I don’t know what to say but I’m honored
I do think child's play is overrated but I do like those movies alot
I'm just saying not fighting that we could almost fight with everything especially Micheal myers franchise should be left alone and Micheal bay
I’m not gonna leave Michael bay alone, than man is a menace to the industry
The US remake of [REC], Quarantine, is far superior and scarier than the Spanish original.
It was literally just a shot for shot remake haha I didn’t find anything uniquely scary to quarantine tbh
@@HauntedHippie It had intensity that [REC] lacked. And better acting.
SAW VI IS SO GOOD
Scout Taylor-Compton is the reason I like Halloween 2.. she did an incredible job of portraying someone who's suffering from PTSD..
I could NOT with her performance. She was just.. yelling the whole time hahah I don’t think I could watch that movie again.
@@HauntedHippie Haha to each their own.. I think she killed it.. for me she was very forgettable in the first film and unforgettable in the second..
i get where rob zombie is coming from in terms of his "vision" but i just can't get behind it. house of 1,000 corpses i kind of like, in theory, but in execution, the editing is like a music video at times, there's scenes in the movie with zero context or role in the universe, and one scene in particular, you'll know when you see it, is straight up poor film making with how LONG it is , it makes zero sense.
I could see that happening given his music background and it really doesn’t give me hope for any of his movies 😂
part 3 please 🥺🥺
I love rz halloween movies idc idc idc. Lol we all have movies we love but everyone hates.
these were some bold opinions, though most had some valid points!
House of 1000 Corpses was nasty af. I somehow finished it. I turned the sequel off after 20 minutes, lol. I'd love to see your reaction to the first one.
I think that will be coming at some point 😬🥴
Ho1000C made me physically ill and I likewise turned the sequel off cos I just wasn't having any fun with it.
Jaws is better than any Friday the 13th film
Nope
I know it sounds bizarre but I kind of understand where the person at 5:57 is coming from. I'd only say a handful of horror films are actually fantastic, the majority of them are only average or slightly below (That just might be because I've seen the wrong ones though 😂) I completely agree with the majority of your responses to these. Just out of interest though, what is it that makes you agree that the Exorcist is overrated but not the others? Not having a go, just interested how you differentiate. My unpopular horror opinions:
Jump scares aren't inherently good or bad, just depends how they are used.
😂 Interestingly, I saw a review on IMDB from someone who claimed to see it when it came out and they didn't even like it then (Granted, that's one person's opinion, still goes to show that not everyone was massively affected back then though)
I also agree about having to base things by today's standards, and I also think you can't just take the practical/production side of things into consideration, you have to take overall enjoyment into it too, same applies with The Thing.
Glad to hear you say the same about The Boy, loads of people slate it and I don't understand why! I also think the twist is especially good, which is something people criticise it for. I actually went in knowing what the twist was going to be and thought everything leading up to it actually fits in with it.
I understand that with Rosemary's Baby! Would/have you ever done a video for your top horror movies?
I feel like House Of A 1000 Corpses is kiiiind of his best movie. It's just a lot of fun. Still trashy but not quite as sadistic or vulgar.
I’m gonna give it a shot!
The Thing is extremely well liked and positively received so I think that person is actually using the word “overrated” in a right way
No. Overrated means it is praised too highly for the quality of what something is. The thing was a ground breaking film in terms of practical effects
Really well liked and positively received NOW, but it's taken decades for it to build its reputation. People thought it sucked when it was released and it was a huge bomb.
@@hollandscottthomas ok? But the person is saying it’s overrated by what people think of it today
What’s your opinion on doctor sleep? I love it, but my friends hate it
I think it’s alright, it didn’t quite meet my expectations
I'm not a big fan of cabin in the woods
Lol favorite channel!!!! Love to another horror fan
Loved your reactions all good ones! 💯🙌🏽
I'm 14 and I dont like the remake of nightmare on elm street
You know what, I'd say a video is probably needed on exorcist 1973. Yes, lets talk about it! I don't like that some people are ignoring that you have a degree in film and that you're educated on that topic. Pretty rude and insulting
Lol I agree. I’m starting to plan a video where I discuss if a lot of major classic films are overrated
I saw parts of sleepaway camp 2 it sucks. It's not good.
@Redsiren Campy cheesy and stupid. No serious tone to it. I found it awkward.
Halloween (2018) had the worst attempt at comedy I've ever seen in the franchise even worse humor than resurrection.
Yea H18 has some moments that make me cringe really hard
Suggestion : Play Dead By Daylight, its free on mobile,i believe you heard of the game its great
Wicked awesome video! Rob Zombie Halloween 2 was a shitshow.
The 3rd installment of I know what you did last summer SUCKS!!!
The original and the sequel is just the decent to the rest of the franchise.
The best movie ever is seed of chucky
Hahahah far out 👏🏼
@@HauntedHippie you are seriously beautiful
5:57 I don’t ever wanna have whatever that guy was on he must’ve been high with that Oxymoron of an opinion. I do get on Child’s play might be tired of it not including myself at all. I love the franchise still would love for it to continue on. Now, as far as The other commentor who say The Grudge is his favorite horror film, either one he’s never Saw a lot of horror films over in his life or LOL Like u said he or she needs to seek help.
Jeeper creeper 3 I feel like was ok but I wish they make one more joyride movie #bringbCkRustynail it's a underrated movie it was good asf u should watch the joyride films and let me know what u think of them I grew up with those horror small budget films
I WAS SCREAMING ON THE GROUND with the grudge 2020 opinion loool . Your reaction was a whole mood . I personally think that my fave horror decade is late 2000’s and 2010’s basically because I grew on that era. Cheesy stupid horror is necessary lmao ALTHOUGH I think the remake from house of wax it’s not cheesy or stupid , it’s actually a solid film . Much better than the original . As a Friday the 13th fan , I have to say the films are very unoriginal cause all of them ( expect from part V and the remake ) have the same concept . Some opinions here are just over the top . I apologise for my child’s play . I should have said I don’t enjoy those movies lmao . I actually don’t mind n*dity in horror but if it makes sense , like you said . A TERRIBLE example is the slumber party mass*cre , I felt I was watching a p*rno lmaoo. I have to say I only enjoy Halloween 2018 and the original but that’s just my opinion cause Michael terrifies me so much lol . PLEASE do watch I still know what you did but just be patient although I think the original is better . I am so glad you enjoyed saw 6 . DID YOU KNOW that the girl at the opening scene won a contest called scream queens in 2009 ? Where the winner was going to get that role ? Shawnee ( Amanda ) was one of the judges from that reality show . Loved the comfort of this video
Hahahaha thank you for the long comment as always 🙏🏼👏🏼 I’m loving filming on my bed, very comfortable and I just feel more laid back! Idk it might have to become a more regular spot
Black Christmas 1974 is boring as hell
I hated hereditary so im with who ever said that
Hi kyle I hope your doing Good and your very good at your rankings and all that and my favorite movie is Godzilla vs Kong and I don't like rob zombies Halloween 1 and 2 I like the old school one Halloween
The resident Evil films are terrible and the CGI ones are better
Do you have Letterboxd?
It’s linked under every video!
I didn't like halloween 3 poor writing and poor characters. Not a bad concept it should have been its own thing.
I mean, it was its own thing though lol
@@ElmerPonceCastro it was my point is instead of calling it halloween 3 it should have been called season of the witch.
Friday13 part 1 IS boring!
