So sorry this took so long to edit. Musicals are always much harder to get through.

the thing that still blows my mind about this movie, to this day, is that Catherine Zeta-Jones was pregnant during filming. the fact that she was able to perform all of that incredible physical choreography while pregnant is a testament to her determination as an actress. speaking of tenacity, apparently, Richard Gere was so dedicated to his role that he would stay after hours to practice the tap dancing number until it was perfect. he insisted on doing it all himself. absolute legend! 😃
A pregnancy lasts nine months and is not considered an illness.
@@o.b.7217 who said it was?
@@the_nikster1
You implied it.
@@o.b.7217 how? by mentioning that it’s amazing that she could perform so well physically while pregnant? pregnancy isn’t an illness but it does heavily impact the body and makes physical exertion tough. it can cause back pain, swollen joints, swollen feet and ankles, as well as nausea. it’s not an illness, but I applaud anyone who can can do the stunts and choreography she did in this movie while enduring all of that extra strain on her body.
@@o.b.7217 You assumed it. You know what they say about assuming
I think Catherine Zeta Jones well deserved her Oscar since she did a lot of those routines whilst pregnant. That is incredible. ❤
Fun little story: John C Reilly came to my high school in 2004 because he graduated from there. He came to my last class for the day, and I sang the chorus from his solo song from Chicago. In my head, I imagined he heard me 😂
Catherine Zeta-Jones, Renée Zellweger, and Richard Gere are a powerhouse when it comes to the singing and acting.
Some guys just can’t hold their arsenic.
Such an amazing line!
Looove Queen Latifah in this! Her big number is a show-stealer. The original Billy Flynn on Broadway back in the ‘70s was Jerry Orbach, and Michael Berresse, who I was in high school plays with, played Fred Kasely in the ‘90s revival and then took over the role of Billy when the first actor left the show.
Can we take some time to appreciate how great the editing is in this movie? The cuts from fantasy to reality are perfect. A well-deserved Oscar for the editors.
We Both Reached For the Gun is in my Top 10 musical numbers lol. Love this movie!
HE HAD IT COMIN HE HAD IT COMIN HE ONLY HAD TO BLAME
I saw it twice in theaters when it came out. Love this movie. Great cast, amazing performances & great soundtrack.
'Cell Block Tango' & 'We Both Reached For The Gun' are my favorites.
Saw this in theatres twice and bought the soundtrack. I was in high school and it blew me away.
In 1999 I was in Las Vegas and I went to see the Crazy Girls review at the Riviera. They performed the Cell Block Tango, topless!
Thing is, at the time. I didn't know what it was they were doing. It wasn't until I saw the movie that I got it. 😂
Great movie and great memory. I did this in community theater, playing 6 rolls - including the doctor, the judge, dancer, tap. It was a lot of fun.
I love this movie! Chicago and Moulin Rouge are in many ways responsible for the return of the movie musical to theaters. They never 100% disappeared, but after the heyday in the 1930-50s ended they were few and far between. Both doing so well at the box office and garnering Oscar attention helped convince studios that musicals were worth making again. Additionally, here is some trivia for you. 1. The 1996 revival of Chicago on Broadway (which is still running) is the second longest running show in Broadway history. Phantom of the Opera is still winning by over 3,000 performances though. 2. Catherine Zeta Jones insisted on the short wig instead of the longer hair production initially wanted, because she didn't want there to be any confusion about whether it was actually her dancing.
Chicago is my favorite movie. Everyone is awful (except Amos and the Hungarian) but somehow you still end up smiling by the end.
Honestly both movies are great, but you’ll be happier after this one. You’ll need a box of tissues for Les Miserables. They’re all just so great in this.
"Kinda reminds me of that musical Six"
(giggles at her Six shirt)
😉
All that Jazz was a semi autobiographical movie about the life & career of Bob Fosse that he directed himself. It's like a narcissistic fever dream.
Many thanks to Robert & Vanessa! 👯♀ I saw this one with friends in the cinema... several times, back in my New Orleans days. It has nothing to do with why I live in the city of Chicago, currently.
I watched it twice in the Theaters when it came out. Bought the DVD & the soundtrack. Amazing cast, great performances, it's just fun to watch. I Love this movie.
Cell Block Tango' & 'We Both Reached For The Gun' are my favorites.
Love this movie, but love Primal Fear even more, that needs moved to the top of the list 😆
Great reaction as always!!!
I have no proof whatsoever but I say this with conviction: Six super-duper borrowed from Cell Block Tango.
YESSSSSSSSS. My favorite movie musical.
We both reached for the gun is my favorite song
Speaking of musicals. One great one I know y'all should watch is the 1980 Robin William's Popeye. Y'all would love it
Winner of 6 Oscars including Best Picture.
New phone tomorrow, as my old phone has busted audio, and I can't get calls in or out.
I’m so confused why you mentioned your phone 😂
OMG!! I literally just watched this for the first time the other day (then immediately again the day after) and have been looking for good reactions to it!!
I'm watching the movie right now on UA-cam and I'm originally from Chicago and I live in Woodstock Georgia Blessings and HUGS! 👑💜
I think Renee would have won the Oscar that year if she hadn't been up against Salma Hayek for Frida. Just had too stiff competition that year
Saw it in HS when it was in theaters - I knew then it would win the Oscar. Saw it at Universal City Walk. watched with bff and we came out with different perspectives, I was happy for Roxie for getting to where she wanted to go in the end and my best friend just felt sorry for Amos.
I hadn't seen the show before so this movie was my introduction back when it first released, and I loved it to bits. Catherine Zeta-Jones is phenomenal. You just can't take your eyes off the screen when she's on it, especially during the musical numbers. I was thrilled to see the show on Broadway about 12 or so years ago with Adam Pascal as Billy. He absolutely nailed it! That said, I hope RENT is on your list of musicals!
yes, he's actually singing. i think they all are but im not positive on that one. but i do know he got an award for his performance in this movie.
Yes, they're all singing. I feel like they all have pretty distinguishable voices, but especially Richard Gere and John C. Riley.
Hands down one of the best movies ever
Mr Cellophane is my favourite, it kind of sums up my life too!
Mine too. It's really strange, I know nobody in real life who has that kind of experience. It feels like nobody ever looks at me. Not in a good way, but not in a bad way either. It can be an advantage, I never get harassed in public transport for example. But it's also very painful to try your best to be social and engage with other people, and by the end of the night you stand there and look around, and everybody is talking and laughing with each other, and you have the sudden thought that if you collapsed then and there, nobody would even turn their head.
"They do it from prison?" *look to the camera* SENT ME!! 🤣🤣
Amazing reaction is always absolutely loved the edit you guys did an awesome job!
Thank you so much, Big Llama!
Richard Gere can really sing, and act
I first saw him starring as Danny in the first London production of Grease, back in 1973.
@@DelGuy03 That's awesome 🙂
@@Proudtman Thanks! Of course his name meant nothing to me at the time -- it would be 2 years till he did any movies or TV, and then years more until I realized that this movie star was someone I once saw onstage.
It's such a shame that Hollywood has basically shunned him. He spoke out against China's hold on Tibet at the Oscars, and his career has never been the same.
I can do a pretty good rendition of Mister Cellophane. Every song in this musical is a banger!
You mentioned about this could have been a courtroom drama. Back in the golden days of Hollywood (30s-50s), they did a straight film called ROXIE HART that starred Ginger Rogers. I guess you could say this is Chicago without the music.
'how are you going to follow catherine zeta jones' when it's literally mya who was a super famous recording artist in the 2000's
she literally sang the main song for the rugrats movie 'take me there' that you're referencing her with unknowingly LOL
lady marmalade anyone?
Catherine was preggers in this film - little lady turning 21 this year. Such a great movie well worth that Oscar.
I remember watching this film in high school and really enjoying it though the Cell Block Tango was the stand out. I was especially fascinated to learn later on because I didn't catch on to it at first that the songs were reflections of Roxie's psyche.
If you're feeling a musical that's a little low on songs try Victor Victoria. Superb!
Loosely based on the true story of Roxy Hart.
her real name was Buehla Annan
Can you review the new Doctor Who Season 1 trailer 2 please
I saw this in the theater. As soon as it was over I immediately bought a ticket to watch it again. After that, I told everyone I knew that it was going to win the Oscar for best picture. Amazing!
31:50 I still can't believe that it took me this long to realise that at the end of the song the rapid sounds the camera was making sounded like gun shots.
I recommend Hair
Ong. My brother …I had to stop watching. The lady is great but this guy would not shut the F up. Too much unnecessary talking 😶
✌️
Man. As soon as I saw Robert was one of the reactors this week I passed.
please consider reacting to Phantom of the opera with Patrick Wilson and Gerard Butler. ❤
It's on the list but keeps losing to other musicals.
