1:15 min mark: Axel F song! A good shave is a good shave and that's what this video shows. I never thought of threading with shaving before this. Excellent video.
My last straight razor shave at a barber's, there was no polishing. In fact, I've never been "polished." However, they used a special coconut lotion that left my face extremely satisfied. :D
Of course not.... The cameraman who said that joke is himself Arab; he was being self-deprecating. It was a running joke throughout our trip across Tunisia.
The straight razor shave is making a bit of a comeback in certain areas, especially men's salons. The Art of Shaving will do it for $35, but I had a shave as good as this one in NYC from an Indian barber for $12. A warning: this is not the Mach3 you're used to, and your face will be a bit sore afterwards.
We weren't being rude. My friend doing the talking, like the barber, was a Tunisian Arab, and he was joking when he asked if I thought I would feel safe being shaved by another Arab, since I'm American, given the political climate at the time. I made the video after I got shaved, & we showed it to the barber and his friends, translating our commentary into Arabic. He thought Marouen's comments and mine were funny, and asked if he could have a copy of it on CD so he could show his customers.
Unfortunately it didn't occur to me to film the shave prior to sitting down. As he was getting started, my friend Marouen said, "Give me the camera" and he started shooting. It's too bad because I hadn't shaved in about five days, and so we weren't able to get a before/after comparison. Meanwhile, I don't know when I'll be back in Tunisia, and since I changed jobs last year, I've stopped traveling internationally. But I'll be sure to shoot similar videos on future trips.
The person who said "Do you feel unsafe in the hands of an Arab?" was a North African (Arabic speaker) man judging by the accent. Either that or he is of North African ancestry.
Yoshie - where does your bomb reference come from then? the barber is shaving with a razor not tnt? The bit about "in the hands of an arab" means the guy getting shaved is nervous as its his 1st time? Id be nervous nomatter who or what nationality was shaving me. I have had turkish shaves like this and it is un nerving as you aren't in control thats all.
Both the guy getting the shave and the guy holding the camera seem to have good senses of humor. Anyway; how much does it cost to have something like this done?
ha ha ha, hi there, i'm tunisian by the way, i'm not gonna say that's right or wrong, it's your opinion and i respect it, but could you please tell me how did they annoy you
ok two questions 1 why is the beverly hills cop music playing over and over in the background and 2 what is your nationality cuz the guy said do u want me to tell him your nationality and yeah beverly hills cop really wow so sad for whoever picked that shit lol
@clymbhigh7 Barbers in the States are being slowly put out of business by large chain salons with mediocre "stylists" who, if you're lucky, won't completely butcher your hair! The true art of barbering is dying here in America.
Who’s still watching this in 2021!?? Need to go visit this barber, if he’s still offering his services!
I dont care what anyone says...Thats is one of the greatest mustaches in the history of youtube.
It is a rare thing to find someone who has mastered an art to such a degree as that barber.
I love getting professional shaves. I try to get one each month. Well worth it.
2:00-international tradition, no matter what country--there's always a guy in every barber shop, just hangin' out
Love this video--long time fan
I follow Andy's twitter and FB feed so it's really funny to find a video of a younger Andy getting shaved. Excellent vid!
It was very soothing to watch this. The man is an artist.
everyone who goes to an arab country should get such a shave. its awesome.
1:15 min mark: Axel F song! A good shave is a good shave and that's what this video shows. I never thought of threading with shaving before this. Excellent video.
awsome background music!
Awesome, wish I could get a shave like that in the states.
Barber looks so much like my grandpa I loved getting shaves with my grandpa :(
It's also funny how the "Axel Foley" theme plays in the background. Good posting!
I get barbershop shaves all the time. Here and abroad. It is definitely a dying art but the best shave you'll ever get.
Best countries for shaves?
@@Charsi_Escobar turkey

Ha! Some women in Dubai emailed me and said the same thing. Is it the sideburns?
Relaxing to watch
:D
wish barbers in north america still did this cant find anyone who does
this is fantastic.. but what's the story behind the string part?
He had equipment for sterilizing everything. One of the cleanest barber shops I've ever visited.
Good shave
01:13 is that the Beverly Hills Cop theme??
Actually, he is Arab. Most Tunisians consider themselves Arab though there is still a Berber population as well.
In this video and the bartin berber shave video both barbers stop for a smoke. Is it just tobacco? or are they smokin tha guud Sheet :D
very good barber
had you gotten a cut throat shave before? cause it looked like you didn't bleed at all from irritation
so cool
LOL at 1:52 his mouth was hanging open and the barber shut it hahaha that was funny
@Wrasa I like that too. I couldn't find the exact track on youtube
@Wrasa I like that to. I couldn't find the exact track on youtube
you should post the unedited version.
The cameraman seems REALLY funny. I'll have to check out his site.
I am curious to know how long the actual shave was. Seeing the amount of care and detail, it looks to be pretty long.
what's the string part for?
Yeah, I snicker every time I see that. :-)
how much does a shave like that cost?
Old school cool.
was somebody playing Beverly Hills Cop in the background at 1:30?
My last straight razor shave at a barber's, there was no polishing. In fact, I've never been "polished." However, they used a special coconut lotion that left my face extremely satisfied. :D
Yeah, that's exactly what he was doing. I had never heard of it before he started it on my face. It stung a little bit, but wasn't that bad.
@CravenMorehead3000 How can you tell?
I wish I'd gotten shaved by a barber on my trips to Turkey. I have no doubt they would have been excellent!
Never too late to go and get one!
Hope you are well!
yeah i think in orange county{costa mesa}
Axel F in the background. Robocop theme in Tunisia? Interesting.
Tends to hurt around the hairline. I've seen it used in acne treatments, too

What nationality are you guys?
this guy is amazing, the string part is weird though
@themanitasdeplomo So did i. But there were alot of jerks too. Especially the waitor at the restaurants. But the weed helped :)
I have been to Tunisia twice and I was offered to be shaven many times but I never got the chance:(
Sorry, but this is the full version of the video. I used almost all the footage I had.
A good shave is to a man as a spa treatment is to a woman

With Love from Los Angeles

do not miss this experiance if you ever go to Tunisia and is cheap to
I did this only once in my life. It was terrifying. I only allow 3 people shaving me: me myself and I
It took about 30 mins, from what I can remember.
You need to revisit this place again, one day. You made the original ASMR video on UA-cam. I hope to see it one day, good Sir.
vancityguy agreed! Legend in the industry!

@Evanauto not better than zero meter from massage pakistani style
Fair enough, but almost everyone I met in Tunisia self-identified as Arab. That's all I'm saying.
2:01
:V
Soft as a baby's bottom, for about a day than it grows right back again.
I think he's a nice Muslim.
